Unadultered garbage they were really bad.......

honest bloke, Sunday, 19 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Honest, but anonymous, eh? That's a bit lame!

I saw the Lollies once. I thought they were OK. Just spiky fun. Nothing great, somewhat derivative, but better than a lot of indie genre bands.

Nick, Sunday, 19 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Kate is a friend, of course, but I do enjoy them. Easily hummable and engaging stuff, and why not? Now, never seen them live, so I can't comment on that front.

Ned Raggett, Sunday, 19 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

And You Will Know Him By The Trail Of Dots.....

I'm seeing them for the first time on Tuesday, and I'll give my honest opinion after that to anyone who's interested. In looking forward to The Gossip, though.

Tom, Sunday, 19 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I wonder who 'honest bloke' is. This is a real mystery. No, really.

DG, Sunday, 19 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Alright, this saves me the trouble of starting another thread to say thank you to everyone who came down last night. Hooray! Even though you thought we were garbage, we still got your £5 so what do I care what you thought?

Thanks to all the people that came by and said hello- Suzy, DG, Mark S, Sarah (who spent most of the night hiding from me convinced I was going to punch her, though I ended the night hugging her and apologising, so all is good), Gareth (to whom I also had to apologise because, although I called him an evil eyebrowed consumptive in his photographs, he proved to be almost shockingly good looking in person) and I know I'm forgetting someone critically important (not RickyT, cause I know he was there and working) - it was absolutely lovely to see you all and hang out for a bit.

Much vodka was drunk. Beigels were eaten (as Gareth pointed out, they spell them that way in the UK because they are beige). Gobshite was talked. Much fun was had.

Looking extra forward to seeing the Oxford crew soon!

Kate the Saint, Sunday, 19 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

the lollies. they're nice. would go and see them live at oxford but fiasco with friends all deciding they're doing other stuff unless I drag along the ones who really don't like gigs etc. bah. but the lollies = good, poppy and funny.

Bill, Sunday, 19 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Come and hang out with Carsmile and I instead then and forget your no- good loser friends.

Tom, Sunday, 19 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

And hang with I in Brighton.

Graham, Sunday, 19 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

That made no sense now I've noticed Bill's answer.<>Ignore me.

Graham, Sunday, 19 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Ah balls, can't make Oxford... soz.

DavidM, Sunday, 19 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Well I could but you'd have to wear a freakytrigger t-shirt so I knew who you were plus provide lively conversation...!

Bill, Sunday, 19 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

There is only one freakytrigger T-Shirt in the world and I don't own it. I'll also probably have to come straight from work so I will be in smart business attire: I will wear my pimp shirt though so will stand out.

Tom, Sunday, 19 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I am listening to the few tracts i can get on Audiogalaxy and await with joy the album.

anthony, Sunday, 19 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Well, if I do turn up, I'll be the semi-blatant indiekid (I doubt that'll actually narrow it down too much though) aha! with the air canada bag with a large mickey mouse badge on. Might also be an excuse for the wearing of paisley,he feels. Although, obviously, not the right reverend.

Bill, Sunday, 19 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I will keep an eye out for you, Bill. I know what both Tom and Carsmile look like, so I can introduce you if you don't find each other. But it might be easier for you to keep a lookout for me!

Damn, better get off the 'puter, we've got to hit the road again soon.

Kate the Saint, Monday, 20 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Only just caught the end of the Lollies' set in Cambridge this evening so I can't really comment. But The Gossip were the best band I've seen in a while...

toby, Monday, 20 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

one month passes...
Desperate garbage.Would cut an ear off for fame and acclaim.Comes on this board because it's all blokes and they might give her a good review if they could get a job in the music press.Your a disgrace to women darling...

Not a fan of Kate, Thursday, 27 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Like you're a judge of who's a disgrace to women or not? Dollar to donut sez you're a guy w/a grudge and not some feminist crusader.

Nicole, Thursday, 27 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

WHO THE FUCK ARE THE LOLLIES?SHITE NAME WHAT DO THEY SOUND LIKE?

mike, Thursday, 27 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I liked them - bouncy indie pop but the key is the keyboards.

Headitallbefore = "Monica" from the (somewhat foolhardy) Doomie Are You...? thread.

Tom, Thursday, 27 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Before you lynch me, I did not start this thread.

But hey, it's all opinions, is it not? 'Sides, I've been there and done that. It's boring.

Andy Warhol: Any press is good press.

doomie, Thursday, 27 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Before y'all lynch me...

I didnae start this thread!

Been there and done that already. I'll search the future, thanks.

doomie..., Thursday, 27 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

("Your a disgrace to women darling..." = identical ungrammatical snippet from legendary anti-Lollies post half-censored by me when tired yet righteous leading to MONUMENTAL FITE re "free speech" and other baubles)

mark s, Thursday, 27 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

perhaps a girl with a grudge?

Samantha, Thursday, 27 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

But I really don't like that band. That's still the same.

In these troubled times *solemn face* everyone should have a right to free speech.

At least no one said the lollies were connected with the taliban....or are they????????

doomie, Thursday, 27 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

(fwiw i am pro-doomie at the moment, and entirely believe him)

mark s, Thursday, 27 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Speaking of the Lollies...

At lunch time I went to Tower Records, they are going out of business and have billions of cds for two dollars a piece. I got Neal Casal and Suicide and New Kingdom....

I wonder what it would feel like for the artist involved knowing that their music is in the budget bin. There was SO MUCH CRAP.......

doomie, Thursday, 27 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

But I still agree with the general anti-lollies statement.

doomie..., Thursday, 27 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Are all of the Towers going out of business??

Kerry, Thursday, 27 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I'm with Mark S on the Doomie qn.

Tanya got accused of having Taliban links the other day!

Tom, Thursday, 27 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Is Kate really bin Laden?

I've heard the lollies songs and I would have to say yes.

doomie, Thursday, 27 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

"There is only one thing in the world worse than being talked about....". And to bitch anonymously, you're the disgrace sunshine.

stevo, Thursday, 27 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Thank you, I always wanted to be a disgrace. Is there an award for this?

doomie, Thursday, 27 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

When I was in Magoo, some friends came back from LA clutching a copy of "Soateramic Sounds", the Beggars licensed US edition. I was so chuffed, until they admitted they'd paid 50 cents for it in a bargain bin. It's a cruel reviewer you can't respond to.

By the way, to re-initiate this thread now is pretty low. Whatever you think of people, why fucking bother?

chris, Thursday, 27 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Put yourself out for public consumption, this is a by-product of that action. Anyone can review my doompatrol: classic or dud thread.

doomie, Thursday, 27 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

bargain bin = fab route to tomorrow's gems of overlooked genius

mark s, Thursday, 27 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Never mind the Lollies!!!

FIVE HAVE SPLIT!!

Tom, Thursday, 27 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

five. well its been rumoured for quite a while i guess

lollies. ovuca should produce.

gareth, Thursday, 27 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

HOLD ON I come back after a long and rubbidge train journey and STUPID INCREASED BUS FARES (more later) and now 5ive have split??? I shall have to go to the boozer to cry. Altho it was inevitable really. They're all stunted. Although I NEED J-ex-5ive (sob) to start a REAL rap career instead of the cartoon rapXor of Keith'n'Shane.

Sarah, Thursday, 27 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Heard a cd of The Lollies today....GARBAGE.No talent go back to the states you loser....

The journalist, Friday, 5 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Yes, please come to the states, Lollies... we need you to tour over here... especially Seattle. yeah yeah yeah. :)

I spun "Boycrusher Plus" at that DJ gig a few weeks ago, and had someone come up and ask who it is... so, Kate, you have more than one fan here -- confirmed.

Brian MacDonald, Friday, 5 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I thought you were going away to the country or something 'the journalist'?

DG, Friday, 5 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

its true love

gareth, Saturday, 6 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Student shit could one day be big if Gene become big again.Ugly music...

davidj, Saturday, 20 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

great review in the nme ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha !!!!!!!

drop a bollock, Friday, 2 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Hmm, do you know Steven Wells, One-Pac? Cos I do. I suspect Mr Wells and Kate would get on like house full of pyros, so NYAH.

suzy, Friday, 2 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

So do you actually get the review? It makes no sense at all.

Mr Noodles, Friday, 2 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

one year passes...
revive. this thread was largely amusing.

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 01:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Kate isn't here to defend herself, so it's kind of a dud to revive it now.

Nicole (Nicole), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 02:12 (twenty-two years ago)

what's to defend? the jibes were so obviously from someone with an axe to grind. god i'd love it if someone gave enough of a stuff about me to do this sort of thing.

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 02:16 (twenty-two years ago)

tugboat is the biggest load of codswallop i ever heard! oh wait, i never heard them.

di smith (lucylurex), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 02:53 (twenty-two years ago)

hooray

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 02:59 (twenty-two years ago)

(you will soon. i just put the cd in the post)

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 02:59 (twenty-two years ago)

fuckin A!

di smith (lucylurex), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 03:59 (twenty-two years ago)

I never realized Duckyfuzz was in Magoo. If I'd seen this before I might have tried to console him with the information that my neighborhood record store has a copy of Soateramic Sounds that I've been wanting to buy for nearly three years now, only I can never justify it, as it's a $30 import LP.

nabisco (nabisco), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 04:10 (twenty-two years ago)

i bought a copy of that CD when i was in Wellington for NZ$5

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 04:11 (twenty-two years ago)

The revival of this thread is really making me have second thoughts about unbanning. Christ. So much for that idea.

kate (kate), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 07:17 (twenty-two years ago)

theres no reason to be banned kate, the potshots on this thread are pretty mediocre, i think it would be very difficult to lose any sleep over them?

gareth (gareth), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 07:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, they're more silly than anything else. What's to worry about?

Matt (Matt), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 07:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Er, maybe we should let KATE be the judge of what's upsetting/annoying to her? Hello Kate by the way!

Archel (Archel), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 08:08 (twenty-two years ago)

The Gossip are shite.

Catty (Catty), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 08:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Of course, apologies. Though I think I was cack-handedly trying to be encouraging. And hi Kate!

Matt (Matt), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 08:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Nabisco, I'll send you "Soateramic Sounds" for nothing other than your good wishes if you like. Email me if you're interested.

(I too got it for like £3, so I'm not being over-generous here)

Mark C (Mark C), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 08:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Hey, Kate is posting again! This is awesome! I was just complaining about the no Kate action (since I don't read ILM anymore).

Chris P (Chris P), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 17:10 (twenty-two years ago)

yay!

The Gossip are shite.

w-e-l-l, musically yes, but the singer's stage presence is quite a spectacle. The Lollies (we)/(a)re by far the better band; in fact I was listening to "Bang Bang Bang Lookout Lookout Lookout" last night - still sounds grebt.

love the artwork too....

MarkH (MarkH), Thursday, 3 July 2003 06:19 (twenty-two years ago)

jim when were you in nz?

duane, Thursday, 3 July 2003 06:43 (twenty-two years ago)

back in '99 for a week. for work (not that much work got done)

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Thursday, 3 July 2003 07:07 (twenty-two years ago)

I hate to say this, but I would be really happy if this thread just died. It's been really slightly annoying that the first two days I'm back, this is at the top of the new answers page.

To this day, I don't know for certain who started and/or kept reviving this thread - though I really have my suspicions (and believe it or not, Doomie is not one of them). That chapter of my life is over, and I'd really like to not keep being reminded of it.

Thanks.

kate (kate), Thursday, 3 July 2003 07:29 (twenty-two years ago)

i only search threads that mention me!

doom-e, Thursday, 3 July 2003 07:30 (twenty-two years ago)

funnily enough, 'new kingdom' didnt last the move to england and someone swiped my 'suicide' but i was very excited to find neal casal in the big tower clear out. awww. those were the days.

doom-e, Thursday, 3 July 2003 07:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Doomie, please quit it and let this thread die, or I'll reverse that opinion I expressed in the previous post.

kate (kate), Thursday, 3 July 2003 07:35 (twenty-two years ago)

"ooooo!"

it's not like i've not recieved a beat-down already about every aspect of my life on ilx! ; - )

doom-e, Thursday, 3 July 2003 07:36 (twenty-two years ago)

"ooooo!"

Or, more constructively, let's let this thread die as Kate wants it to and post here instead.

MarkH (MarkH), Thursday, 3 July 2003 07:50 (twenty-two years ago)
