Hello everybody! This is a sister forum to I Love Music intended for chat about, well, anything and everything. Off you go then, get talking! :-)

DG, Thursday, 7 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Woo-hoo! First answer to the first question is mine!

Dan Perry, Thursday, 7 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Well done Daniel. You are now King For The Day. Not that that actually means anything, of course.

DG, Thursday, 7 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

this is just going to take some time to get rolling, like a party where the drugs haven't kicked in and the police haven't raided for the 3rd time.

Geoff, Thursday, 7 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Like, pass the bong dude! Who'll be the first to throw up on the new carpet then?

DG, Friday, 8 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

DG rocks indeed. I love stuff would have been a better title, methinks.

Michael Bourke, Friday, 8 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Dude, I do not throw up on carpets. I resent that accusation. That was totally Stephanie.

Ally, Friday, 8 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I probably know more about everything than I know about music! so yay!

james e l, Friday, 8 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Thanks DG.

Can I just point out that FT got a new affiliated new web-board at the same time as Pitchfork got its official one, and ours is clearly the zenith of human p.c. whereas theirs is nadgers. HAR!

Tom, Friday, 15 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

yeh, was pretty dubious about a second board, but its a resounding success. dg wins.

gareth, Friday, 15 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I was a disbeliever at first, but my god am I addicted now! Thanks, DG, I *used* to have a life! ;-)

masonic boom, Friday, 15 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

See, your collective problem is you lack faith. Trust in DG, he shall steer you onto the path of righteousness. Anyway, this whole board is an attempt to brainwash you all to move to Ilford and vote for ME when I stand as an independent candidate at the next election. The current MP, Mike Gapes, looks like a koala bear and as such I don't trust him.

DG, Friday, 15 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

it's them eucalyptus leaves - koalas are always stoned...btw, has anybody else evr tried to smoke them?

Geoff, Friday, 15 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Koala smoking has recently been made illegal

electric sound of jim, Wednesday, 30 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

There's *that* form of entertainment down the crapper, then.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 30 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

not in south australia - as long as yr not a refugee, you can still smoke freely for yr own personal use

goeff, Wednesday, 30 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

There's nothing quite like a true blue South Australian smoked Koala.

electric sound of jim, Wednesday, 30 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Y'know, for a welcome thread, it's awfully short.

And what's this business w/ koalas?

Is this nostalgia for the postmodern generation?

Tuomas (Tuomas), Wednesday, 23 April 2003 10:20 (twenty-two years ago)

I Love January 2003

we're going back to the time of end of year polls, Becky Lucas and pre-war spouting - how much do YOU remember?!

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 23 April 2003 10:36 (twenty-two years ago)

I remember January 2003! As I recall I was just a young lad then, without any worries in the world. Ah! The naivete of youth!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 9 September 2003 12:40 (twenty-one years ago)

doesn't the smoking koalas discussion count?

the surface noise (electricsound), Tuesday, 9 September 2003 12:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, but Dan had nothing to do with it, that's the remarkable part!

Larcole (Nicole), Tuesday, 9 September 2003 12:52 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm surprised "I Love Stuff" went uncommented.

I just realized I've been here almost a year! My first ILE post was March 6th last year, on this thread. I won't even the begin to guess how much of my creative time this place has stolen...

But it's all good, I wuv you all!

Tuomas (Tuomas), Monday, 1 March 2004 19:05 (twenty-one years ago)

I feel so nostalgic!

james e l (jel), Monday, 1 March 2004 19:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Wow. I started lurking at ILM a full year ago. I started posting around here 10.5 months ago, which means that in the time I've been submitting so-called "answers", I could've conceived, gone through the process of pregnancy, delivered a baby, and had the baby for a few weeks.

You know, there are some days where I think I would've preferred the baby.

dunno. but you seem to have to at least wait an awful long time.

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 4 January 2007 11:37 (eighteen years ago)

Mädchen, yr log in name, or rather the film it's named after was mentioned in the book I'm reading! It's in the third volume of Anthony's Powell's Dance to the Music of Time, the Acceptance World. Some of the characters are going to see the film and are discussing it with someone else who claims to have seen it and they ask "Is it about lesbians?" and he says no. Then they go and see it and say to him "It *was* about lesbians, you haven't seen it at all".

erm, do i really have to keep logging in everytime i visit nu ilx?
-- Ste (ste.foste...), January 4th, 2007.

i had a bit of a time, but eventually it worked.

benrique (Enrique), Thursday, 4 January 2007 11:45 (eighteen years ago)

mark -- i am very grateful for that, weirdly it's important to my stuff! i am guessing the scene is from when the film was current (ie like 1932). is there much filmgoing in the book?

benrique (Enrique), Thursday, 4 January 2007 11:46 (eighteen years ago)

I never had to relogin in, it worked automatically.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 4 January 2007 11:47 (eighteen years ago)

Wow, really? I've never read DTTMOT but I will add it to my list now.

Mädchen (Madchen), Thursday, 4 January 2007 11:51 (eighteen years ago)

seems it might have been just a one off, revisiting the site seems fine now. our works internet has always been a bit ropey dealing with cookies anyway.

Ste (Fuzzy), Thursday, 4 January 2007 11:51 (eighteen years ago)

not much filmgoing in the book at all, a lot of partygoing, a lot of well-connected ppl bumping into each other and committing various social faux pas. It's kind of Peyton Place meets Curb Your Enthusiasm in a Brideshead Revisited universe. Powell is incredible in scope and somewhat annoying if you don't like books with huge numbers of characters...there are 300 apparently over the whole dodecology, which covers a period of some 50 years iirc. I'd say 1932 is about right.

New Mark H (New MarkH), Thursday, 4 January 2007 11:52 (eighteen years ago)

iirc it was one of the very very earliest 'art house' hits (when there were about two cinemas in the whole country that played 'that sort of thing'.

xpost

powell's ex-roommate henry yorke (green) was a big filmgoers, likewise his amigos evelyn waugh, robert byron, etc...

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 4 January 2007 11:53 (eighteen years ago)

Yay for the return of wh3rd.net, and thanks for all the parties involved!

I don't want to sound demanding, but will we get the old search function back at some point? And what about the function that shows which threads have unread messages, that'd be cool to have again, if it's not impossible to implement.

This is eerily similar to most conversations I have about cinemagoing.
