AHEM!

A message from the desk of Spacestation Pongo.

BEGIN MESSAGE:: Spacestation Pongo has expressed disapproval that soft toys = twee, as alleged on the Tweeist thread. In order to get less simpering about twee bobbins, and more talk about soft toys, she has expressed that her Earth Representative, UNIT STARRYMODERNINTERWEB, should start a thread, so that you can all talk about soft toys". END MESSAGE ::

So yes. We might have done this before. But let's do it again! What toys do you have? Do you have favourites? Which toys would you like? We're all going to Hamley's lads. Hooray!

katie (katie), Monday, 11 November 2002 14:13 (twenty-three years ago)

I have loads of puppets, and nowhere to put them now my boyf has declared our new bedroom a twee free zone(he says he cant sleep with all those eyes looking at him, it’s spooky)! I have donated my soft toys to his sproglets on the understanding that they take good care of them, and my china dolls (I only have 2, I didn't buy them, I've had them since I was wee) and other sentimental type toys have been relegated to the loft. Sniff sniff.....

Plinky (Plinky), Monday, 11 November 2002 14:16 (twenty-three years ago)

WHY YOU LITTLE....!! *hits Hopkins with Hello Kitty handbag*

nb. i do not really own such an item.

katie (katie), Monday, 11 November 2002 14:46 (twenty-three years ago)

No, it's Afro Ken Katie, which is like a whole different world.

I haf:
Snuggi, Mopsie and Cottontail the bunnies. I sometimes reflect on how much Mopsie looks like Hitler. Cottontail lost an eye in the wash and my dad decided to rig up an eyepatch for her. so she looks like Momus.

Herbert The Hedgehog, Hector the Womble/Hedgehog thing and Dougal the Mole. Hector is wombloid in shape, cost forty nine pence from Chaplins, is v.v. tiny and was missing so long I had forgotten his name until I finished writing this post. Dougal sits on my bookshelves and surveys his kingdom.

Psyduck, Pikachu and Bubbles. Bubbles sits on top of my rear-right center speaker and I have just realised her expression is totally Rebecca L. Psyduck sits on the center speaker on my window cill and watches passers-by. He falls over every time I open or close the window and/or blind, in that comedy Psyduck way of his. Pikachu had his own thread.

Lixi the Tigxor, Milk the Cow and Shawn the Sheep. Lixi is short for Liquorice (though she has Tilly embroidered on her flank) and came in a buy one get one free offer at the chickenbear shop. She is strapped to the top of my projector screen. I also still have chickenbear's old legs, which I fear may make a fetching ashtray one day.

This concludes my role call. Anyone scared?

Graham (graham), Monday, 11 November 2002 16:26 (twenty-three years ago)

Yes, me. I am generally against cuddly toys. Yeh, ok cute blah blah blah. WHATEVER. I am on the wrong thread and will leave now.

alix (alix), Monday, 11 November 2002 16:37 (twenty-three years ago)

Toys on my desk:

R2D2 (electronic!), C-3PO, 6 Transformers, 2 Transformers PVC statues, strange Optimus Prime Choro-Q, 2 retro wind up robots, Lego X-Wing (with Obi-kwon, R2D2, Yoda, and Luke figures reinacting the scene from ESB when Luke first lands on Degobah, with my Yukka plant providing the foilage), Lego Darth Tyrannus on his speeder, a tricerotops, a pikachu and a pikachu calculator

Toys I want: one of those little remote control cars from the Gadget Shop, this robot that you can programme, deluxe Transformers PVCs.

I have my first teddy bear still. He is a small white (well, pale grey) bear named Cuddly. He is 43 years old. I have another that I insisted on grabbing at a jumble sale at some young age that looks as if he was home made without any kind of pattern or design. I called him Muddly.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 11 November 2002 23:01 (twenty-three years ago)

I never had a teddy bear when I was little :(

But now I collect GROMIT cuddly toys, because Wallace & Gromit are my heroes.

C J (C J), Monday, 11 November 2002 23:20 (twenty-three years ago)

Alf is in my closet. He's been with me for a long, long time-when my old Daffy Duck Hawaiian t-shirt didn't fit me anymore, I gave it to him. He doesn't own it anymore tho.

Daniel_Rf (Daniel_Rf), Monday, 11 November 2002 23:49 (twenty-three years ago)

Haha like you're getting the full list. Most of them are at Isabel's anyway. The only ones at my house are a tortoise and a rhinoceros.

Tom (Groke), Tuesday, 12 November 2002 13:44 (twenty-three years ago)

I have Spacestation Pongo (actually she has me), who lives on the desk watching out over the room. Also we have a medium sized Chikorita and Cyndaquil that I got from the Japan Centre. I did not get a Totodile, I do not think I liked his teeth and/or there may not have been one there. I think I would have felt guilty for abandoning one of the starting Pokémon!

I have a larger Pikachu that can speak who lives on or around my bed.

I also have a floppy dog called er "floppy dog" who always lives in my bed. I missed him when I went to stay with my parents. But they had a different cuddly dog which probably saved my life on Saturday night.

I also have a Chococat! He is an American! I bought him from a shop in Little Korea.

I WANT MORE TOYS!!!!

Sarah (starry), Tuesday, 12 November 2002 13:58 (twenty-three years ago)

I have a Giles from Buffy! But strickly speaking he is an ACTION FIGGER hem hem!

Sarah (starry), Tuesday, 12 November 2002 13:59 (twenty-three years ago)

Has Meowth been put down?

Graham (graham), Tuesday, 12 November 2002 14:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I don't even know how many Hello Kitties and My Melodies are in my collection, but it's probably more than would be considered healthy. I did just win a lot of 13 Hello Kitties on ebay, so their numbers are increasing rapidly. I would love the Hello Kitty dollhouse but I really have no room for it. This really isn't as twee as it sounds, honest!

Nicole (Nicole), Tuesday, 12 November 2002 14:03 (twenty-three years ago)

I have a Spike on my computer at home, I forgot about him.

Nicole (Nicole), Tuesday, 12 November 2002 14:05 (twenty-three years ago)

I should get a Dr. Dre action figure because I would feel bad if I forgot about Dre.

Nicole (Nicole), Tuesday, 12 November 2002 14:05 (twenty-three years ago)

oh, ok. i have:

grubby white kitten from a flea market
grubby yellow small pikachu (grubby cos i use him to dust with, ha!)
small psyduck
angelpuss (odd, unsettling thing from Clare's Accessories)

Alan (Alan), Tuesday, 12 November 2002 14:06 (twenty-three years ago)

i have a Babe (promotional item i got from work) and a MIFFY (present) on my computer at work. at home i have a snoopy, a tigerBob and a pantherKate and, um, a wombat that came in a can (also a pressie). and that's about it!

katie (katie), Tuesday, 12 November 2002 14:07 (twenty-three years ago)

Sarah the Moomins have gone back to Isabel's for now.

Tom (Groke), Tuesday, 12 November 2002 14:10 (twenty-three years ago)

i only have the one teddy bear. it's about 5 years older than me. my dad gave it to my mum before they were married, then i got it when i was small. one of his eyes is bit funny and some of his face is slightly scorched from where a cousin put him too near a fire and one of his arms is a bit saggy. he's called teddy (i think. i almost can't remember).

angela (angela), Tuesday, 12 November 2002 14:16 (twenty-three years ago)

soft toys, I only have a Garfield which I named Garfunkel, and my favourite bunny called Bunny, which I have had since being a baby, and he has lost all his fur and wears a sort of neck brace, as otherwise his head may fall off :/

jel -- (jel), Tuesday, 12 November 2002 15:35 (twenty-three years ago)

I am deeply suspicious of this "MIFFY" becuz it sounds RUDE.

Is it wrong to giggle at the idea of a stuffed animal with a neck brace?

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 12 November 2002 15:58 (twenty-three years ago)

I have a big knitted clanger, a small clanger, two badgers, a little bagpuss, a beanie moomin, a ferret, a big knitted moomin and a strange owl that stares down from the mantelpiece.
