Venues

This is in conjunction with the Going on Tour thread.

I followed brg30's link to Flywheelarts from the Free Time thread and that looked pretty cool. What are the coolest venues in your neck of the woods? (or ones you've visited)

heres another venues thread, though this is a while ago, so i'm sure new people will have some different ones to add now...

well I struggling with cool but:
-Palais Royale in Toronto. The place is crap but it has a beach next too it and lots of park space for football games.
-Sneaky Dee's, mmmmmmmmmm, mexican food down stairs, bands up stairs.
-Rancho Relaxo, I can't remeber if thats its real name or not, but its on College and is almost the same size as my old favorite bar Ducky's out in Sackville.
-Kee To Bala, in the middle of nowhere, its a giant two story wooden death trap, and its wonderful for Sloan shows.

it's been way too long since I toured the East Coast of America, but way back in the day (TM) my favourite venue ever was actually The Funhouse in Bethlehem, PA. Never played a gig there that it wasn't rammed to the gills and totally mad and sweat dripping from the ceiling and no monitors but people dancing like I've never seen no one dance before in my life and BROOKLYN CHOCOLATE BEER on tap. Woooo! And you can always nip into the Subway next door to get a dronerock superspecial sandwich made for you by Brother JT.

I don't even know if it's still open any more. Is it? I'd love to know...

The Funhouse sounds awesome. It looks like it's still around because when I searched for it, lots of bands had it listed under upcoming shows. I couldn't find a site for it though. Should I just mail a promo kit to the venue address and hope for the best?

I *DOUBT* it has a website, it's really not that sort of a place. If you see it listed in someone's upcoming shows, why not write them and ask who the contact is? I can't remember who booked the shows there, the Original Sins or the Creatures always used to get us gigs there.

Thanks, Kate. I'm on it!

Any other cool Northeast US venues anyone knows of?

If you don't mind going off the beaten track, Valentine's in Albany has a good vibe, as well. The booking agent there, his name is Howard Glassman and he's open minded about indie music. They might have a website, don't know.

(I like playing little venues in tertiary market cities because people are so starved for the RAWK that they get excited by bands.)

Northampton, Mass is another good place to play, 50,000 college students in a valley. I think the venue there was the Iron Horse cafe? Sorry all this info is so out of date, it's been 5 years since I toured any of these places. Both towns make good stopping points between Boston and NYC.
