Inspired by the Fancy a....? thread, anyone fancy a night out in Glasgow?

Plinky (Plinky), Tuesday, 19 November 2002 14:22 (twenty-three years ago)

I would! but am 400 miles away from home :(

Fuzzy Wuzzy (Madam Plinky), Tuesday, 19 November 2002 14:30 (twenty-three years ago)

Yay! When? Where? On the other thread I forgot that N. also lives here, if he hasn't decided to stay and live with Richey Manic in Goa.

Madchen (Madchen), Tuesday, 19 November 2002 14:32 (twenty-three years ago)

my tummy hurts.

RJG (RJG), Tuesday, 19 November 2002 14:37 (twenty-three years ago)

I dunno where, whadya think? Somewhere quiet we can talk or somewhere where we can get blind drunk and make complete arses of ourselves on the dancefloor?
Marcello suggested between Christmas and New Year, care to suggest a date?

Plinky (Plinky), Tuesday, 19 November 2002 14:46 (twenty-three years ago)

Hmm, I'm going back down to Woking from 23rd to about 28th so closer to new year would be better for me.

Madchen (Madchen), Tuesday, 19 November 2002 14:47 (twenty-three years ago)

Yeah, New Year is probably better for most people. 3/4/5th Jan? When did Marcello say he was around until again?

Plinky (Plinky), Tuesday, 19 November 2002 14:52 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm coming up to Glasgow on Sat. 21st Dec. and away back down again on Sat. 4th Jan.

Monday 30th Dec. might be a good compromise if you want to avoid Hogmanay pub crushes?

Marcello Carlin, Tuesday, 19 November 2002 14:54 (twenty-three years ago)

Yeah, I could do 30th December.

Plinky (Plinky), Tuesday, 19 November 2002 14:57 (twenty-three years ago)

I may be up in Glasgow between Christmas and New year, but family plans are a bit hazy at the moment.

Billy Dods (Billy Dods), Tuesday, 19 November 2002 23:35 (twenty-three years ago)

Just bringing this back up to the top of New Answers.

Is this still on for Mon 30th Dec?

"somewhere quiet we can talk" or "get blind drunk and make complete arses of ourselves on the dancefloor"? We could always do both!

Marcello Carlin, Thursday, 21 November 2002 10:07 (twenty-three years ago)

somewhere quiet where can blind talk and make complete drunks of ourselves! i might be in. providing marcello doesn't hate me (have I figmentofimagination-atised this? or is there some corporeal/incorporeal cloud of hating transcending upon me?).

dee aitch, Thursday, 21 November 2002 13:01 (twenty-three years ago)

30th December is good for me too. Can we find somewhere that does deep-fried-pizza-with-burger-in-the-middle and Report Back?

Madchen (Madchen), Thursday, 21 November 2002 16:35 (twenty-three years ago)

I'll only attend if david h promises not to.

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 21 November 2002 16:39 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm tempted to come along, but lurk on the other side of the pub spying on y'all just to see what you look like :-)

caitlin, Thursday, 21 November 2002 16:47 (twenty-three years ago)

howcome?

dee aitch, Thursday, 21 November 2002 16:56 (twenty-three years ago)

because.

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 21 November 2002 18:19 (twenty-three years ago)

tha's no nice

david h (david h), Thursday, 21 November 2002 18:33 (twenty-three years ago)

So the 30th December it is, anyone got any venue suggestions? Should we just all meet at a quite type pub somewhere central and then see what we feel like from there? Who knows, we might all hate each other and wanna escape....especially from dee aitch....

Plinky (Plinky), Friday, 22 November 2002 01:23 (twenty-three years ago)

seriously, plink--if he's invited then I consider myself NOT.

RJG (RJG), Friday, 22 November 2002 01:33 (twenty-three years ago)

Couldn't you just like, pretend he's not there?

Plinky (Plinky), Friday, 22 November 2002 01:52 (twenty-three years ago)

I don't think so.

RJG (RJG), Friday, 22 November 2002 01:56 (twenty-three years ago)

whats with the dh hate anyway?

gareth (gareth), Friday, 22 November 2002 01:57 (twenty-three years ago)

Yeah, dish it, I sense gossip....

I'd like to meet everyone - maybe we could have you there for the first half and him for the second, or vice versa?

Plinky (Plinky), Friday, 22 November 2002 02:02 (twenty-three years ago)

if you people are going to fuck about this like primary school kids then forget it. leave me out of it.

Marcello Carlin, Friday, 22 November 2002 08:25 (twenty-three years ago)

HAHAHAHA, NO FUCK ABOUT, MARCELLO: I WAS ONLY BEING FUNNY AND I'M SURE DAVID (H)OWIE KNOWS IT EVEN IF HE DOESN'T APPRECIATE IT ETC. I LEFT PRIMARY SCHOOL TEN YEARS AGO.

RJG (RJG), Friday, 22 November 2002 10:13 (twenty-three years ago)

Aw, so young and cute!

I suggest the Carnarvon because it's cheap and a proper pub and a bit grubby and the bar staff know (some of) us and can be persuaded to open up a snug which will have deflating balloons stuck to the walls.

Madchen (Madchen), Friday, 22 November 2002 10:18 (twenty-three years ago)

I'll only attend if you promise we won't go to the canarvon bar etc.

RJG (RJG), Friday, 22 November 2002 10:23 (twenty-three years ago)

oh, that was me seconding that choice, BtW.

RJG (RJG), Friday, 22 November 2002 10:24 (twenty-three years ago)

where be this carnarvon bar? can we have a map please for the benefit of this southernised softie?

(i am out of touch. the last time i lived in glasgow, "prince charming" by adam & the ants was number one)

Marcello Carlin, Friday, 22 November 2002 10:43 (twenty-three years ago)

the corner of its own street and st. george's road. a little bit east of where that arrow is pointing.

RJG (RJG), Friday, 22 November 2002 10:59 (twenty-three years ago)

blimey, it's decades since i've been down that way. when i was wee my dad used to take me into james kerr records in woodlands road to stock up on his jazz collection, en route to kelvingrove art gallery.

Marcello Carlin, Friday, 22 November 2002 11:07 (twenty-three years ago)

I've not been round that way for ages either but I'm willing to trust your judgment...

Plinky (Plinky), Friday, 22 November 2002 12:06 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm willing to trust your judgment...
*evil grin*

Madchen (Madchen), Friday, 22 November 2002 13:08 (twenty-three years ago)

Well at least I'll be able to identify you, you'll be the one in the corner with the evil grin and the pick axe.....

Plinky (Plinky), Saturday, 23 November 2002 15:13 (twenty-three years ago)

etc.

RJG (RJG), Saturday, 23 November 2002 17:17 (twenty-three years ago)

haha, come on marcello, it was obvious - hold it down boy. if only you were this unforgiving on everyone - it'd be amazing honest.

david h (david h), Saturday, 23 November 2002 17:34 (twenty-three years ago)

etc

david h (david h), Saturday, 23 November 2002 17:38 (twenty-three years ago)

you're not going to go,

are you?

RJG (RJG), Saturday, 23 November 2002 17:52 (twenty-three years ago)

no, not if i'm there.

david h (david h), Saturday, 23 November 2002 18:01 (twenty-three years ago)

i'll see both of you there then ;-)

Marcello Carlin, Monday, 25 November 2002 07:59 (twenty-three years ago)

The Carnarvon didn't even make it to The List's bar guide (not so extraordinary, until you consider that The Counting House did).

I'm in Oban on the 30th.

N. (nickdastoor), Saturday, 30 November 2002 13:50 (twenty-three years ago)

So will you come meet me finally, Nick?

dwh (dwh), Saturday, 30 November 2002 13:54 (twenty-three years ago)

Only if you are in Oban.

N. (nickdastoor), Saturday, 30 November 2002 14:01 (twenty-three years ago)

Are you offerin'?

dwh (dwh), Saturday, 30 November 2002 14:01 (twenty-three years ago)

No.

N. (nickdastoor), Saturday, 30 November 2002 14:02 (twenty-three years ago)

Sheesh

dwh (dwh), Saturday, 30 November 2002 14:09 (twenty-three years ago)

two weeks pass...
haha.

RJG (RJG), Monday, 16 December 2002 12:45 (twenty-three years ago)

Haha?
Is it still on?

smee (smee), Monday, 16 December 2002 13:12 (twenty-three years ago)

strangely enough, i was about to bring this back to the top of New Answers.

Two weeks today - so is this still on, or not? And if so, who's going? (i wd expect both dwh and rjg to be present)

sadly, mr dastoor will not be there, wch is a prob as he is the only one of you i know in person - so you will have to make yourselves known to me (even after 21 years away, I realise that "Ken Stott lookalike" is not necessarily exclusive to me in Glasgow).

Marcello Carlin, Monday, 16 December 2002 13:15 (twenty-three years ago)

Actually, it is your mind that is at fault, Mr C.

Anyway, I am sure N. can handle all that stuff himself.

Mooro (Mooro), Tuesday, 17 December 2002 23:36 (twenty-three years ago)

two weeks pass...
Happy New Year
So, we still on for Friday?

smee (smee), Thursday, 2 January 2003 03:38 (twenty-three years ago)

whatever...

[OK]

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 2 January 2003 17:47 (twenty-three years ago)

OK. It seems.

Ally C (Ally C), Thursday, 2 January 2003 18:26 (twenty-three years ago)

I think it (Glasgow) should be moved.

the pinefox, Thursday, 2 January 2003 18:31 (twenty-three years ago)

As I have briefly come into EasyEverything in St Vincent Street, can I just give my apologies for this evening, should anyone still be coming. Can't make it sadly - last evening here before returning to London, and there are people coming round tonight etc. - so perhaps next time.

Marcello Carlin, Friday, 3 January 2003 14:10 (twenty-three years ago)

Glasgow should be moved to where exactly pinefox?

I think we should postpone due to lack of interest/funds/enthusiasm etc etc

smee (smee), Friday, 3 January 2003 14:25 (twenty-three years ago)

whatever...

[OK]

RJG (RJG), Friday, 3 January 2003 18:39 (twenty-three years ago)

OK. It seems.

Ally C (Ally C), Friday, 3 January 2003 22:21 (twenty-three years ago)

Did this Glasgow FAP ever actually happen, then? Or not? Enquiring minds want to know

And if not, is there ever going to be one?

(I would suggest "Edinburgh FAP?" but as far as I know there's at most about 3 ILE people in Edinburgh)

caitlin (caitlin), Tuesday, 14 January 2003 23:17 (twenty-three years ago)

did you read the thread?

RJG (RJG), Tuesday, 14 January 2003 23:22 (twenty-three years ago)

The thread is not entirely clear

caitlin (caitlin), Tuesday, 14 January 2003 23:27 (twenty-three years ago)

OK.

RJG (RJG), Tuesday, 14 January 2003 23:33 (twenty-three years ago)

It didn't happen, think it was post Christmas blues and lack of fundage. Either that or nobody cares, snif sniff...

smee (smee), Wednesday, 15 January 2003 11:42 (twenty-three years ago)

Ha Ha Glasgow's hard-drinking reputation dashed by ILXor lethargy!!!

alext (alext), Wednesday, 15 January 2003 11:56 (twenty-three years ago)

how many ILXors are there in Edinburgh (apart from me)?

leigh (leigh), Wednesday, 15 January 2003 12:30 (twenty-three years ago)

grrr glasgow was apparently sunny and completely snow-free last week; i should have stayed an extra week!

for the first time in decades i was sad about leaving glasgow; i was just starting to get used to it again. i'm wondering if i should just move back up and to hell with london.

Marcello Carlin, Wednesday, 15 January 2003 12:34 (twenty-three years ago)

how many ILXors are there in Edinburgh (apart from me)?

Me too.

Clearly alext's email lives here too, but whether he does himself or not is another matter.

caitlin (caitlin), Wednesday, 15 January 2003 13:32 (twenty-three years ago)

It would be a bit of a sorry excuse for a FAP if there were only 3 of us there.

leigh (leigh), Wednesday, 15 January 2003 13:38 (twenty-three years ago)

Mmmm. Maybe if we all just bumped into each other at a pub, coincidentally like :-)

caitlin (caitlin), Wednesday, 15 January 2003 13:42 (twenty-three years ago)

That's not going to happen.

N. (nickdastoor), Thursday, 16 January 2003 00:47 (twenty-three years ago)

hmmm, I need to take some holiday and I could get flights up to Glasgow (Prestwick anyway) for 17 quid around the weekend of the 22nd of February. Should I come up and see you guys?

chris (chris), Thursday, 16 January 2003 15:56 (twenty-three years ago)

I think it should be in Uisce Beatha tomorrow.

(With another on the 22nd for Chris, obv.)

Lara (Lara), Thursday, 16 January 2003 15:58 (twenty-three years ago)

I've always wanted to go there after Jonnie always raved bout it so much, especially the famous "night the bacardi spice man turned up"

chris (chris), Thursday, 16 January 2003 16:14 (twenty-three years ago)

You should have been there "the night it didn't happen".

Insane.

Lara (Lara), Thursday, 16 January 2003 16:23 (twenty-three years ago)

oh, I can imagine.

chris (chris), Thursday, 16 January 2003 16:30 (twenty-three years ago)

Come up and see me!

N. (nickdastoor), Thursday, 16 January 2003 16:31 (twenty-three years ago)

Sometime....

Lara (Lara), Thursday, 16 January 2003 16:32 (twenty-three years ago)

I'll make you smile N. don't you worry

chris (chris), Thursday, 16 January 2003 16:42 (twenty-three years ago)

Just tell him you like what he's done with his hair.

Lara (Lara), Thursday, 16 January 2003 16:43 (twenty-three years ago)

facial?

chris (chris), Thursday, 16 January 2003 16:44 (twenty-three years ago)

Ha ha.

Lara (Lara), Thursday, 16 January 2003 16:44 (twenty-three years ago)

My email lives in Edin, but I now live in Bristol (temporarily): although I still think of Edin. as home, and my partner lives there so I get back as often as I can. Luckily my job lets me spend whole weeks up there 'doing research'.

I would be too scared to meet other Edinburgh ILXors since it being Edinburgh we're bound to know people in common through all kinds of wierd coincidences.

alext (alext), Thursday, 16 January 2003 16:58 (twenty-three years ago)

Luckily my job lets me spend whole weeks up there 'doing research'.

Researching the insides of pubs? ;-)

I was having a chat with my boss today about how it's so common to find people who know people you know in Edinburgh. He claims he could walk into the Filmhouse bar, pick a random person and, assuming they'd lived here for a couple of years at least, find that they had at least one acquantaince in common.

caitlin (caitlin), Thursday, 16 January 2003 17:11 (twenty-three years ago)

Might the Filmhouse Bar be a rather less than random sample?

Tim (Tim), Thursday, 16 January 2003 17:14 (twenty-three years ago)

well, yes. It does kind of select someone with a similar outlook to him, I suppose. On the other hand, there are plenty of other places he could probably get away with the same trick - my local pub, for example. Which has a v different clientele.

caitlin (caitlin), Thursday, 16 January 2003 17:17 (twenty-three years ago)

I arrive in sweaty-land at quarter past nine on the 20th. Let the bouzing commence.

chris (chris), Thursday, 16 January 2003 17:21 (twenty-three years ago)

I like what you've done with your hair, chris!

RJG (RJG), Friday, 17 January 2003 00:28 (twenty-three years ago)

Thanks Richard, it's all mine you know

chris (chris), Friday, 17 January 2003 09:15 (twenty-three years ago)

I've just remembered I'm in Bournemouth that weekend!

N. (nickdastoor), Friday, 17 January 2003 09:22 (twenty-three years ago)

ooh my life!

you rotter.

I will miss you.

chris (chris), Friday, 17 January 2003 09:33 (twenty-three years ago)

I can concur with the filmhouse bar theory.

leigh (leigh), Friday, 17 January 2003 10:05 (twenty-three years ago)

I can concur with the filmhouse bar theory.

Which means you probably know someone who knows my boss! eek!

caitlin (caitlin), Friday, 17 January 2003 15:13 (twenty-three years ago)

three months pass...
I love most of this thread.

RJG (RJG), Wednesday, 30 April 2003 22:43 (twenty-two years ago)

six months pass...
Revive? A year down the line, are the good folk of Glasgow any better organised?

ailsa (ailsa), Friday, 28 November 2003 19:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Sorry, I can't make it.

N. (nickdastoor), Friday, 28 November 2003 19:35 (twenty-two years ago)

I gave up a long time ago

smee (smee), Monday, 1 December 2003 18:19 (twenty-two years ago)

N. you're so cruel! I wanna go there and whip you into shape (though you'd probably like it).

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Monday, 1 December 2003 20:20 (twenty-two years ago)

two years pass...
Alternatively, to other thread: FAP, Glasgow, this weekend?

the pinefox (the pinefox), Wednesday, 6 September 2006 13:05 (nineteen years ago)

Fancy A Quickie with Aldo (Glasgow 8th September - Alpen Lodge from 3pm(ish))

Onimo (GerryNemo), Wednesday, 6 September 2006 13:17 (nineteen years ago)
