..or more like a thinly disguised excuse for me to gloat - now that I have tickets for tomorrow's FAC Round 3 Chelsea v Boro clash!!

Who have your team got in the FA Cup?

Dr. C (Dr. C), Friday, 3 January 2003 15:23 (twenty-two years ago)

We aren't allowed in it...you've got to have played in the FA Vase first and we missed the deadline for this year's entry, as er, we weren't formed. Gah.

We'll be in it the season after next though. Look out world! Or something like that.

Tim - presume that Exeter will win this year's FA Cup?

Dave B (daveb), Friday, 3 January 2003 15:28 (twenty-two years ago)

There can be no doubt that this is our year. All the signs point in that direction.

I actually am rather excited by the prospect of tomorrow's trip to Charlton. I think it will be the closest City have ever played to my home.

Tim (Tim), Friday, 3 January 2003 15:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Is it one-bus ride away?

Dave B (daveb), Friday, 3 January 2003 15:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Dave - who's the former premiership player who's turned out for AFCW this year? I heard something on five live, but they didn't name him.

Also who was/is 'Trigger', and does he still play?

Dr. C (Dr. C), Friday, 3 January 2003 15:51 (twenty-two years ago)

my guess is david bloody speedie

gareth (gareth), Friday, 3 January 2003 15:52 (twenty-two years ago)

I hate football.

Ronan (dedicated Celtic not Liverpool fan) (Ronan), Friday, 3 January 2003 15:55 (twenty-two years ago)

haha, at this rate you will be below leeds united!

still, my team is bottom of our division:(

gareth (gareth), Friday, 3 January 2003 15:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Dave B: no, it's a two-bus job, tragically. I could make it a one-bus job by walking a mile or so, but that would be a touch pointless.

Tim (Tim), Friday, 3 January 2003 15:59 (twenty-two years ago)

not looking forward to this at all. anelka the hero anyone?

michael wells (michael w.), Friday, 3 January 2003 16:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Dr C - Joe Sheerin used to play for Chelsea - he made one appearrance for them, ironically against Wimbledon. Like many Chelsea youth products in the late 90s though, they couldn't get into the Chelsea squad and he left for Bournemouth but was unfortunately injured. He was eventually released from his contract, as he was too much of a risk for a club to take on - they couldn't afford to put him on a contract for any length of time when he might break down at any time.

Trigger still occasionally turns out - he normally plays for our unofficial reserves, Netherne FC. He scored the first ever AFC Wimbledon goal so will always have a place in our history though, regardless of what else happens.

Dave B (daveb), Friday, 3 January 2003 16:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes, I remember Sheerin.

Dr. C (Dr. C), Friday, 3 January 2003 16:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Right, I know we're going to lose tomorrow (notwithstanding the FACT that it's OUR YEAR and we're off to CARDIFF etc etc) but I'm already getting ridiculously excited. Magic of the cup! Pitch cutting up! Great leveller! Not likely!

We'll score again, don't know where, don't know when...

Tim (Tim), Friday, 3 January 2003 16:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Dave, you going to the Southall game? Not quite the same thing... I'm working sadly, but I am already making plans to buy my first ever season ticket for next season. Woo!

And surely this thread title refers to the London Senior Cup, anyway?

Mark C (Mark C), Friday, 3 January 2003 17:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Mark - yep - if it's on. Though I'll get a text message if it's off from the club, cos we're magic.

London Senior Cup - Wimbledon are of course unbeaten in this since 1976. We're heading towards a semi-final with Dulwich Hamlet. It'll be the talk of South London.

ST for next year - what's your view about Imperial Fields vs Kingsmeadow?

Dave B (daveb), Friday, 3 January 2003 17:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Bristol Rovers got knocked out in the 2nd round by Rochdale. We'd only have lost quietly tomorrow to Preston anyway, so I'm not too distressed. We are concentrating on the league, as I believe I pointed out to Tim when Exeter put us out of whatever that lorry-related useless-teams tournament is called these days.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 3 January 2003 19:02 (twenty-two years ago)

I've never been to Imperial Fields, so I can't say. I like Kingsmeadow - it seems really right for us, but if we have to leave, we have to leave. All I've heard of T&M's new facilities is good, though I think it's actually significantly further from where I live, Merton or not.

I don't suppose we could take over Craven Cottage, could we? I can practically see it from my flat :)

Mark C (Mark C), Saturday, 4 January 2003 12:50 (twenty-two years ago)

i have a horrible feeling that we will be joining tim and martins teams in the basement of shit next season

gareth (gareth), Saturday, 4 January 2003 13:28 (twenty-two years ago)

FA Cup Shock !

Down at the gay meadow: shrewsbury 2 everton 1

shrewsbury that's mark sinker's home town !

DJ Martian (djmartian), Saturday, 4 January 2003 16:54 (twenty-two years ago)

hahahahahaha, yes it's scant consolation but hahahahahaha anyway.

Ronan (Ronan), Saturday, 4 January 2003 16:58 (twenty-two years ago)

I am sorry for Tim. I also notice that Rochdale, who knocked Bristol Rovers out in Round 2, won at Preston. Our concentrating on the league was no help - we were losing at Hull instead.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 4 January 2003 17:08 (twenty-two years ago)

in yr face sporting world!!

mark s (mark s), Saturday, 4 January 2003 17:15 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm not looking forward to todays live match :(

jel -- (jel), Saturday, 4 January 2003 17:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Ah, the FA Cup. For clubs that aren't the greats of the game, the hope of glory and a boost in revenue, but there is equally the risk of a thrashing at the hands of an outfit that are simply in a different class from your team. So sympathies to The Pinefox and jel.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 4 January 2003 19:28 (twenty-two years ago)

At least Brentford won.

Have Spurs never heard of clearing the ball or giving the oppositions forwards a good kick?

jel -- (jel), Saturday, 4 January 2003 19:59 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't think even Juniper Moon can lift my mood.

jel -- (jel), Saturday, 4 January 2003 20:02 (twenty-two years ago)

That'll do nicely. Very impressed with Diouf again, shame he didn't score at the end there, I'd still take great pleasure in seeing that clown Schmeicel getting egg on his face.

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 5 January 2003 14:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Spurs - ha ha ha!

We were solid yesterday. The ref was an idiot.

Dr. C (Dr. C), Sunday, 5 January 2003 15:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Ah, Ronan - you're a Liverpool fan again, yes? It's so very hard to keep up.

Dr C: highlight of whole weekend (aside from Gaia's magnificent equaliser for Exeter and the subsequent pandemonium and bruising in the Jimmy Seed Stand) - Cudicini's face when sent off. Hilarious.

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Sunday, 5 January 2003 16:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Thoroughly enjoyed seeing Spurs humiliated yesterday.

The Toon are in typically charitable form away from home, having given Wolves a 2-0 start, its now 2-2 at the break. Gareth, why hasn't Mick Wadsworth got the boot yet. Useless.

stevo (stevo), Sunday, 5 January 2003 16:54 (twenty-two years ago)

2-2, eh? Sounds exciting. I'm going downstairs to watch it now...

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Sunday, 5 January 2003 16:55 (twenty-two years ago)

England doesn't exist. Bastards.

dwh (dwh), Sunday, 5 January 2003 16:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Wolves 3 Toon 2 *sulk*

stevo (stevo), Sunday, 5 January 2003 17:11 (twenty-two years ago)

**Cudicini's face when sent off. Hilarious**

Windass's face *all the time* - would scare horses and humans of a nervous disposition.

Dr. C (Dr. C), Monday, 6 January 2003 08:52 (twenty-two years ago)

1-0 was fine although in contrast to ronan i think diouf has yet to show anything - no pace, easily tackled - his touch is good though. diao was excellent but city didn't bother turning up. pretty happy.

michael wells (michael w.), Monday, 6 January 2003 10:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Biggest surprises on Saturday - Boro had a couple of players slower than Petit and Stanic! Also Gronkjaer *almost* looked good at times.

Dr. C (Dr. C), Monday, 6 January 2003 10:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Very disappointed - Liverpool were there for the taking and City bottled it. Thought Diouf was pretty laughable - that and Peter Reid forgetting Bernarbia's name (Barnaby? Bjorn Again?) were the only bits of life relief. Oh, and what Mike called Neil Mellor, which is best kept secret.

Tag, Monday, 6 January 2003 11:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh well, ECFC's name must be on the cup for 2004 then.

Apparently we took more than 3000 to Charlton, which is certainly the most Exeter fans I've ever seen in one stand. I've never been much of a one for the 'grand day out for supporters of little clubs' nonsense, but I did have a grand day out. We really didn't look too bad at all.

Still second from bottom of the entire league though.

Tim (Tim), Monday, 6 January 2003 12:23 (twenty-two years ago)

That's more than Boro brought to Chelsea!

Dr. C (Dr. C), Monday, 6 January 2003 13:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Prices your lot charge I'm not suprised Dr. C.

stevo (stevo), Monday, 6 January 2003 13:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Did you see the attendance at the Reebok? 10,000 punters watched Bolton vs Sunderland. Excellent commentary from one of the BBC boys, Sam Allardyce has treated the FA cup with disdain, and it's given him the replay he didn't want. Just what he deserves!"

chris (chris), Monday, 6 January 2003 13:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Poetic justice.

stevo (stevo), Monday, 6 January 2003 13:35 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't know, that's the second time I've thought Diouf was useful when he's had the chance. I thought he was good in the Sunderland game too, at least looked to be able to do something on the ball as opposed to trying to get a through ball from Gerrard as per Owen every single game.

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 6 January 2003 13:38 (twenty-two years ago)

it was a shame that pele-like shot didn't go in.

michael wells (michael w.), Monday, 6 January 2003 13:41 (twenty-two years ago)

diouf got man-of-the-match in the liverpool echo. i must've been watching a different game to chris bascombe and ronan.

michael wells (michael w.), Monday, 6 January 2003 15:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Dean Windass: the only footballer in Britain who looks *exactly* like his name sounds

robin carmody (robin carmody), Tuesday, 7 January 2003 04:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Not Nicky Butt then?

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 7 January 2003 18:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Danny Shittu?

Mark C (Mark C), Tuesday, 7 January 2003 19:55 (twenty-two years ago)

not quite as obvious a correlation as with Windarse
