Newbie

Hey, so I've been posting for a few months now, so I'm no longer a newbie, right?

Just feeling bored and overworked today simultaneously. I'm at a new office and my boss is going nutso with all the things we have to do to wrap up last year and begin a new one at this new company.

How is everyone? Want to entertain me with kitties, socks, music, and all things romantic and fun? I think I might go to Target tonight. Isn't that interesting?

I also have a new band, which is a fun but difficult process.

Discuss...

Sarah I saw a Yeti in my driveway this morning. Here he is:

Chris V. (Chris V), Tuesday, 14 January 2003 18:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Sarah McL! I think you lose Newbie status after a week!

What's your new band like?

jel -- (jel), Tuesday, 14 January 2003 18:58 (twenty-two years ago)

(Haha that Yeti has better teeth than the most recent Cirque du Soleil director!)

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 14 January 2003 19:00 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm bored too - I'm in a cone of silence here, as I've lost my voice. I can only communicate via text! Save me ILX, you're my only hope...

Kim (Kim), Tuesday, 14 January 2003 19:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, we've only practiced together twice and have only worked on covers so far...
Number One Blind by Veruca Salt &
Gigantic by the Pixies

Nothing spectacular, but it's nice to meet new people to play with, you know? And they are all actually OLDER than me which is really crazy because I'm used to being the old, wise person (I'm only really a year or so older than most of my friends, but I can depend on them to constantly point out my age). So I'm 25 and the 'kids' in the new band are: 31 and two 27 year olds. They like Spoon and Superchunk and Versus, good stuff. So I imagine that, ideally, we'll end up sounding something like all those bands.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 14 January 2003 19:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Cone of Silence! Gandelf warned me about that!

jel -- (jel), Tuesday, 14 January 2003 19:03 (twenty-two years ago)

did I just see Spoon on Austin City Limits last weekend? I thought that was a country (and western) show.

lawrence kansas (lawrence kansas), Tuesday, 14 January 2003 19:05 (twenty-two years ago)

oh and he was doing the running man...(the yeti)

Chris V. (Chris V), Tuesday, 14 January 2003 19:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah. I heard they were supposed to be on that show.
You can read it about it here.

jel -- (jel), Tuesday, 14 January 2003 19:10 (twenty-two years ago)

I've really got to try posting faster or something cuz my responses never match up with the questions... Oh, what a hard life.

Kim, Feel free to scream on ILX and get it all out.

Chris, Did you join the yeti for a grind?

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 14 January 2003 19:10 (twenty-two years ago)

J.Lu, Those kitties are the top are way cute, but I feel really sorry for them. Don't they look kind of sad? They should be curled up in a cozy little cat bed.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 14 January 2003 19:12 (twenty-two years ago)

yep, i threw on some P. Diddy, and busted out a roger rabbit or two.

Chris V. (Chris V), Tuesday, 14 January 2003 19:12 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah, those top kitties like they are being used to polish someones car :(

jel -- (jel), Tuesday, 14 January 2003 19:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Good point -- the one on the left looks especially unhappy. (All three pics are just from random Googling.)

Chris V. (Chris V), Tuesday, 14 January 2003 19:22 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm about as jolly as that blue kitty today :(

you're not a newbie sarah you're in the in crowd

Vic (Vic), Tuesday, 14 January 2003 19:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Chris, My stupid work computer doesn't have speakers. Can you give me a summary of the 5 steps? I mean, I REALLY need to know!

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 14 January 2003 19:29 (twenty-two years ago)

the only one that matters is step five..."When it comes to making out, side 1 of Led Zeppelin IV."

Chris V. (Chris V), Tuesday, 14 January 2003 19:30 (twenty-two years ago)

I actually just tried to scream IRL, in an experiment to see what would happen.

observation #1 - it really hurt and was a stupid thing to do as it contravenes doctor's orders to rest.
observation #2 - ironically, it sounded like a kitten.
observation #3 - still bored.

For Kim

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 14 January 2003 19:42 (twenty-two years ago)

It sure is nice having one's own thread. That way, I don't have to look for an interesting thread to post on.

Going out to show a property now. If I don't come back, that means that some potential renter decided to kill me. So, see you later! (maybe)

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 14 January 2003 19:46 (twenty-two years ago)

mmmm...

Lemon green tea only managed to elevate me into a distinctly sub-Julie Kavner state this morning - luckily just long enough to call the office and have them recognize me as a human instead of a misdialed fax.

Kim (Kim), Tuesday, 14 January 2003 19:49 (twenty-two years ago)

That first kitten pic from j.lu is adorable!

Sarah, you stopped being a newbie long ago! When I realised I was used to people referring to you as McLusty it was clear that you were well established.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 14 January 2003 20:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Thanks again, Martin.

Just wanted to let everyone know I didn't die at that appointment. Instead, I got to go straight home after that! Over an hour early :) !
I spent that extra time helping my bf hook up new stereo components he got at the thrift store. And now we're ordering chinese! (food, that is)

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 14 January 2003 22:20 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm still a newbie, right? Please?

Because otherwise there's no excuse.

Tom Millar (Millar), Tuesday, 14 January 2003 22:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Sarah, I've been on about a month and a half, and I still feel like kinda a newbie, but I feel you are indeed well established. I don't have any pictures of kitties, but I always like your posts. And I love that Veruca Salt song.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Tuesday, 14 January 2003 22:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Haven't we defined rules yet about when someone graduates from newbie to established? We could set a number of posts, and Graham could announce when someone makes the transition. As long as it's not like 10000 posts, so that only Ned and Mark are established.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 14 January 2003 22:39 (twenty-two years ago)

I already thought of you as a regular, Sarah! I like your posts a lot.

Nicole (Nicole), Tuesday, 14 January 2003 23:15 (twenty-two years ago)

it's 9999

who are you all anyway? this is mine and ned's private area please leave now

and hands off my kar-klean kitties (TM)

mark s (mark s), Tuesday, 14 January 2003 23:18 (twenty-two years ago)

(Haha that Yeti has better teeth than the most recent Cirque du Soleil director!)

I saw the Cirque du Soleil in the grocery store yesterday. I didn't really look at what they were buying because I didn't really care.

That Girl (thatgirl), Tuesday, 14 January 2003 23:21 (twenty-two years ago)

There are no such things as newbies on ILX. Once you've posted you're one of the fallen.

Tom (Groke), Wednesday, 15 January 2003 00:42 (twenty-two years ago)

I've never been a newbie on ILE. I think I might like to be. Maybe I'll start pretending to be another person so I can experience the joys and sadnesses of newbiehood. But then, everyone would know it was me...

kate, Wednesday, 15 January 2003 00:50 (twenty-two years ago)

I have never felt like a newbie on these boards either because a lot of my peeps from alt.music.alternative were already posting here (and I remember kate from AJSAS noteriety!), but when I first starting posting on a.m.a some people were really horrible to me.

Nicole (Nicole), Wednesday, 15 January 2003 01:28 (twenty-two years ago)

But-but-but I've been here for MONTHS, and I still feel out of the loop *sniff*

Must be my tendancy to lurk.

, Wednesday, 15 January 2003 01:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Sarah I think you are a regular because you recognize people and are recognized.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 15 January 2003 02:46 (twenty-two years ago)

That looks just like you though! You live in denial.

Nicole (Nicole), Wednesday, 15 January 2003 02:47 (twenty-two years ago)

*bows* You must excuse me. Last I checked I was neither puce nor teal, so therefore you lie.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 15 January 2003 02:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Did you check in your boxers?

Nicole (Nicole), Wednesday, 15 January 2003 02:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Okay, I'm officially worse than Dang Perry.

Nicole (Nicole), Wednesday, 15 January 2003 02:52 (twenty-two years ago)

It was a long, cold, slow night in Michigan, and as the wind howled for the eightieth day in a row as the snow piled up in great drifts, Nicole sat in front of her computer and pondered.

There is only ONE way to defeat him -- and that is to OUTPERV him!

Meanwhile, Dan was considering the physics of what would happen if Dr. Who materialized next to Robert Smith at a Cure concert.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 15 January 2003 02:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 15 January 2003 13:44 (twenty-two years ago)

howdy! i'm not sure I really like Godspeed You Black Emperor! They are spooky.

Chris V. (Chris V), Wednesday, 15 January 2003 14:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Chris, WTF???

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 15 January 2003 14:42 (twenty-two years ago)

just thought i'd let you know. my friend made me a mix cd, it has a lot of godspeed on it.

Chris V. (Chris V), Wednesday, 15 January 2003 14:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Ahhh... ok. Yeah, I agree.
You know what else is spooky? KUKL

I am getting so much work done in between posts. I should get some sort of fuckin medal!

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 15 January 2003 15:13 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm still in awe at Nicole's jab on Ned. Pure poetry.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 15 January 2003 15:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Mmm... Peeps... Is it Easter yet??

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 15 January 2003 15:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Sarah, do you really want to eat Ned's underwear Peeps?

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 15 January 2003 15:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Now we have reached filth.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 15 January 2003 15:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Sorry, Ned's filthy underwear Peeps.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 15 January 2003 15:52 (twenty-two years ago)

You are being very obstreperous today.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 15 January 2003 15:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Obstreperous is my middle name. ("Yeah baby, the 'J' stands of 'obstreperous'. Hey, where are you going? Come baaaack...")

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 15 January 2003 15:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Again, I heart Dan.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 15 January 2003 15:58 (twenty-two years ago)

formerly peeps mcgee.

Chris V. (Chris V), Wednesday, 15 January 2003 16:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Does that have anything to do with strep throat?

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 15 January 2003 16:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Last weekend I learned 'After Hours' by the Velvet Underground (guitar and vox).

No strep throat was involved.

lawrence kansas (lawrence kansas), Wednesday, 15 January 2003 17:44 (twenty-two years ago)

That sounds lovely.

I think I might have to actually write a song for this new band sometime soon.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 15 January 2003 18:10 (twenty-two years ago)

It's a great tune. Lots of 7ths and minors (Pete T. had no hand in writing it). Jaunty.

lawrence kansas (lawrence kansas), Wednesday, 15 January 2003 18:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Tom's kitten-pitching pic gave me my biggest laugh in ages. Thank you.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 15 January 2003 21:27 (twenty-two years ago)

one month passes...
Thought I might revive my own thread. I need attention! WAH!!!

Sarah McLusky-Hotnights (coco), Thursday, 6 March 2003 20:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Ah yes, the thread where Nicole and Dan plumbed the depths of depravity at my expense. Grr, grr!

(And attention for Sarah too. Rah!)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 6 March 2003 21:10 (twenty-two years ago)

But Ned, Doesn't that happen on every thread?

Sarah McLusky (coco), Thursday, 6 March 2003 21:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Hello Sarah! What's wrong?

(I have just seen the explanation, mostly, of your name change on the questionnaire thread, BTW.)

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 6 March 2003 21:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Sarah, when you posted this originally, I already thought you were a regular with lots of interesting posts.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 6 March 2003 21:15 (twenty-two years ago)

But Ned, Doesn't that happen on every thread?

*pouts, cries*

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 6 March 2003 21:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Ned - Don't Cry!

Hello Sarah.

Axl Rose (jel), Thursday, 6 March 2003 21:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Wow! All kinds of celebrities up in this bitch! (OH, I feel so embarassed for actually typing that... ha ha)

NAme Change? Oh , I was just getting bored. I like McLusky. I like Sahara Hotnights. I like myself ok too so sometimes I post in my own name (ok, so maybe that's not intentional, but anyways...).

I'm alright, Martin. Work has been rather trying lately. On the upside, my boss is going to see THE Boss tonight (as in Bruce) so he's in a better mood today.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Thursday, 6 March 2003 21:41 (twenty-two years ago)

You work for one of Bruce Springsteen's employees? You should be careful - I remember him trying to take thousands out of his staff's wages when a boat washed away or something.

More seriously, I'd be in a worse mood if I had had to sit through some interminable tedium from the aptly initialled BS the night before.

I'd offer to send you a kitten pic (they always cheer me up), but I only save them from here anyway, so you probably posted most of the ones I've kept.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 6 March 2003 22:08 (twenty-two years ago)

More seriously, I'd be in a worse mood if I had had to sit through some interminable tedium from the aptly initialled BS the night before.

My thoughts exactly! Maybe people go to Springsteen shows in a good mood precisely so they can be made to feel awful.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 6 March 2003 22:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Hey Sarah, I met Sean's cat in Toronto and she was the sweetest little thing! A little skittish, but considering how tough a time she's had in this world so far, a very nice little cat. She helped nurse my wife when she was sick while we were there. YAY FOR CATS!!! (wtf is the matter with me today?)

Bryan (Bryan), Thursday, 6 March 2003 22:17 (twenty-two years ago)

There's a cat who lives in the woods here, who a person in my building must feed (we're not allowed to have pets). But unfortunately she's shy and skittish. It would be easier to pet the deer.

Good literati game before, Sarah...

JuliaA (j_bdules), Thursday, 6 March 2003 22:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes, JuliaA- Too bad I lost! But at least it was a close game...

(Or maybe more ILXors will start playing Literati with me if I keep up this losing streak... hmm...)

I had my new band practice (still no name)downtown last night and traffic was crazy - limos everywhere for the BS concert. I ended up having to park really far away. GRRR>>>....

But happily, now it's Friday!

Sarah McLUsky (coco), Friday, 7 March 2003 14:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Ah yes, the thread where Nicole and Dan plumbed the depths of depravity at my expense.

I had forgotten about ridiculing Ned's anatomy! Good times, good times...

Nicole (Nicole), Friday, 7 March 2003 14:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Ah, yes. Reviving my own thread once again. This time I was inspired by the new thread called Newbie.

Those are xlnt kittens, Sarah. Picture of Ekaterina on the other thread is ace too, but she does look a tad psycho, if very cute indeed. There's something amazingly anthropomorphic, almost Disneyfied, about her expression there.
