"...any deal may be delayed until the player marries his girlfriend when she turns 16 on valentines day"

zemko (bob), Wednesday, 15 January 2003 22:24 (twenty-two years ago)

hahah! klebersons a bargain though, good player

gareth (gareth), Wednesday, 15 January 2003 22:31 (twenty-two years ago)

it'll all end in tears....the transfer i mean, not the marriage

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 16 January 2003 12:28 (twenty-two years ago)

this time next year he'll be wimping out of muddy FA Cup replays with Rochdale whilst his wife complains about the British weather...then Barcelona will snap him up but at least Leeds might make a tiny profit out of it.

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 16 January 2003 12:30 (twenty-two years ago)

it still shocks me to think seth johnson cost 9 MILLION POUNDS

zemko (bob), Thursday, 16 January 2003 12:47 (twenty-two years ago)

taking sides: Seth Johnson vs Sergei Rebrov vs Winston Bogarde

chris (chris), Thursday, 16 January 2003 13:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Rebrov is obviously the best player out of that lot, I am endlessly baffled as to why Hoddle doesn't let him play, I mean Iversen ahead of Rebrov?

jel -- (jel), Thursday, 16 January 2003 13:19 (twenty-two years ago)

rebrov thread. i agree, it is absolutely baffling, and saddening really

gareth (gareth), Thursday, 16 January 2003 13:21 (twenty-two years ago)

If Bogarde's wages were averaged out over his first team games he gets paid something like 1.3 million pounds per game.

chris (chris), Thursday, 16 January 2003 13:29 (twenty-two years ago)

It still shocks me to think that Seth Johnson was in my class at primary school. And Muse were in my class at secondary school. And Layla Jade was the year below me (google her name people).

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Thursday, 16 January 2003 13:32 (twenty-two years ago)

ooh get you mr famous school....my only claim to fame is that the redhead who quite the Sugababes went to mine

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 16 January 2003 13:46 (twenty-two years ago)

The whole drop in transfer value thing is a little shocking. £3m for Rebrov, £2m for Christie etc.

So who are the most profligate club around? Leeds vs Spurs vs Chelsea? Thanks again for the £4.5m for Sharpe btw Leeds.

James Ball (James Ball), Thursday, 16 January 2003 14:02 (twenty-two years ago)

has rebrov gone to fulham yet? I don't know much about kleberson...

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Thursday, 16 January 2003 14:10 (twenty-two years ago)

£2m for christie seems about right, never understood all this hype about him. and will rebrov ever be the same again?

can't believe no one went in for dacourt, newcastle especially could have done with him

zemko (bob), Thursday, 16 January 2003 14:20 (twenty-two years ago)

The Rebrov fee may now be as low as 1 million. Words fail me.

chris (chris), Thursday, 16 January 2003 14:21 (twenty-two years ago)

i'd say aston villa are the biggest £-wasters actually

zemko (bob), Thursday, 16 January 2003 14:21 (twenty-two years ago)

yuran and kulkov anyone? :)

zemko (bob), Thursday, 16 January 2003 14:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Villa paid Pompey 5 Million for a Goalscoring Giraffe in the Spring of last year, has Turnip Taylor put him into winter hibernation in a warmer climate?

DJ Martian (djmartian), Thursday, 16 January 2003 14:28 (twenty-two years ago)

rodders is injured, martian

zemko (bob), Thursday, 16 January 2003 14:31 (twenty-two years ago)

right, lets hope the giraffe gets well soon and is unleashed on the premiership.

DJ Martian (djmartian), Thursday, 16 January 2003 14:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Villa - you've got a fair point there. They've spent a fortune on midfielders as well as strikers recently. Impressed with the way they can turn quality Moroccans to shit in a short space of time.

Christie isn't the best striker around but I do think he's got talent, and he's a steal at £2m.

James Ball (James Ball), Thursday, 16 January 2003 14:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Yoy gotta remember that in the past couple of years, Spurs ain't spent that much. Robbie Keane = bargain, Dean Richards = a bit expensive (I think he's a steadying influence in a dodgy defence), players like Poyet and Sheringham were worth the money paid, Ziege would be great if it weren't for injuries, Davies and Etherington = very shrewd investments (thanks GG). Carr, King, Gardener et al.= youth players. Anderton = long term value for money.

jel -- (jel), Thursday, 16 January 2003 14:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Anderton has at least kept a few docs and physios in steady work.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 16 January 2003 18:57 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah i think villa have been the best/worst in terms of wasting money on players,or players not even coming close to fulfilling their potential...
for as long as i've been supporting them there's always been seasons starting with some signing who everyone has high hopes for who never sorts it out...

robin (robin), Sunday, 19 January 2003 02:06 (twenty-two years ago)

nine years pass...

good times
