ally drunk: classic or dud?

well you asked.

sundar subramanian, Friday, 22 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

When did I ask that? Probably when I was drunk.

I fell down the stairs the other night talking on my cell phone. I wasn't that drunk then though, it was wicked embarassing. And hilarious at the same time. I'm planning on getting drunk tonight, if anyone wants to know.

Ally, Friday, 22 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I had already penciled that in, Ally.

Josh, Friday, 22 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I can add a new entry to my suspicions comfirmed or otherwise about American women file.

Ed Lynch-Bell, Saturday, 23 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Ally is quickly becoming the Momus of ILE. Three Ally-dedicated threads and counting!

Mitch Lastnamewithheld, Saturday, 23 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

4 if you count the fake breasts

Geoff, Saturday, 23 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

When did I ask that? Probably when I was drunk.

in the relationships thread

sundar subramanian, Saturday, 23 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

4 if you count the fake breasts

Now hang on, hang on. I will have you know my breasts are not fake. I've been asked twice in my life if they were, and it makes no sense - I don't have particularly good breasts, or particularly large breasts, or even disproportionate-to-my-body-and-weird-shaped breasts. It's so random.

I've been moderately drunk all weekend but not amusingly drunk, just a bit tipsy. Vodka is great, I havent gotten a hang over once.

Ally, Sunday, 24 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

so that's what jury duty really means

Geoff, Sunday, 24 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

What does that even mean?

Ally, Sunday, 24 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

is it really true about vodka not giving you a hangover? coz if i start off drinking vodka with the idea of no hangover its ok, but then i start having beer as well, and whisky and shit, then it all goes to pot and i get a hangover (mind you, drinking till 4.30am last week was not clever, what with having to get up for work at 6.30)

gareth, Monday, 25 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

_that_ means the whole jury duty thing on yr site is a dud, cos you were just off yr face the whole time, instead of in court protecting democracy, or whatever the heck you guys call it hese days. As to vodka not giving you a hangover, it's true - it was the 3 litres of cheap wine I used to drink when the vodka ran out that did it...most hangovers are caused by impurities and dehydration, vodka takes care of the first, keep drinking takes caare of the 2nd.

Geoff, Monday, 25 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Listen, showing up drunk and/or hungover for jury duty gets you off cases way faster, trust me.

The problem is, re: the vodka hangover thing, you guys keep throwing in OTHER stuff. You can't have cervesa on top of the vodka, that's asking for it.

Ally, Monday, 25 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

one year passes...
Grebt Thread!

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Tuesday, 18 March 2003 03:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Classic!

hstencil, Tuesday, 18 March 2003 05:26 (twenty-two years ago)

I blame hstencil for it.

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 18 March 2003 15:38 (twenty-two years ago)

hmm, I don't remember buying you a drink.

hstencil, Tuesday, 18 March 2003 15:40 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah, real gentlemanly, that.

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 18 March 2003 15:46 (twenty-two years ago)

heh, so which is it then? Get blamed for getting you drunk, or get blamed for NOT getting you drunk?

I'll be sure to buy you a martini at the FAJCP.

hstencil, Tuesday, 18 March 2003 15:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Sure, pick a FAP I probably can't come to! That's yr out! I see the game!

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 18 March 2003 16:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh, I thought you were going. Ally, I'd buy you a drink after work tonight, if it pleased you.

hstencil, Tuesday, 18 March 2003 16:02 (twenty-two years ago)

I'd like to go but I don't know if I can swing going all the way out to Jersey on a weeknight.

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 18 March 2003 16:03 (twenty-two years ago)

B-but Ally, it's not the LES...

Mary (Mary), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 01:44 (twenty-two years ago)

But it's a weeknight and the Path and the slowness :(

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 04:36 (twenty-two years ago)

OK so plan the next UWS FAP so that HAT BOY gets jealous the hale way we NYERS psychogeograph.

Mary (Mary), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 05:03 (twenty-two years ago)

YEAH that's more like it. I will attempt to come to Jersey, it depends on if I can take off work the next day (I don't like to do things halfassed, leaving at 10pm, what is that?). In the meanwhile, we should have a FAP at Dead Poet's because it is on the UWS and has a pool table and a decent jukebox (it has EARLY BON JOVI and the Smiths somehow in one package, it's ace), and plus bnw used to go there and we should honor his departed fire. Also it is next to about 4 other bars that we could go to if we get bored or it gets too crowded - at the very least Brother Jimmy's and Jake's Dilemma are on the same street.

None of them are too expensive but if they get too expensive they're like 20 blocks from my house and we can STAND ON THE ROOF AND DRINK.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 15:01 (twenty-two years ago)

haha 'hat boy'

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 15:04 (twenty-two years ago)

it's better than when everyone was calling him Hitler.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 15:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Brother Jimmy's is always crowded.

hstencil, Wednesday, 19 March 2003 15:05 (twenty-two years ago)

yes, I'm aware but it's also twice the size of Dead Poets. We've successfully and happily fit a group of about 25 not-svelte bikers and their ornaments in there. Also: barbeque.

That's not a place I'd recommend for these purposes though.

Jake's Dilemma is usually busy too, unless you get there early and stake a place.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 15:41 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm a vegetarian, so no bbq. Their mac n' cheese is pretty good, tho.

hstencil, Wednesday, 19 March 2003 15:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Jake's Dilemma is usually busy too, unless you get there early and stake a place.

Ack. Jake's Dilmena used to be a much classier, cooler bar called KCOU RADIO, back when the earth was young.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 15:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Most bars used to be much classier and cooler. Such is the life of post-Giuliani NYC.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 16:42 (twenty-two years ago)

I am always slightly dissappointed that NYC FAPs don't take place in the Rainbow Room or suchlike. ;-)

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 16:44 (twenty-two years ago)

FACarnegieHallP?

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 16:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Me too, Ed. Me too. I honestly think we should all head down to Battery Park for ONE DRINK EACH at our Ritz. Because there's no way in hell we could afford more and they refuse to give us any type of company leeway for some godforesaken reason, but it'd definitely be worth it to have pictures of the NYCILX crew fopping around the Ritz like a bunch of rock stars on tour.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 17:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Rainbow Room is big expensive

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 17:15 (twenty-two years ago)

book it in for when me and suzy roll by. All FAPs should start with really classy, Martinis, Manhattens or Old Fashioneds.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 17:17 (twenty-two years ago)

I can get discounts through my work at many swanky Midtown restaurants, but I'm not sure if that applies to liquor.

hstencil, Wednesday, 19 March 2003 17:18 (twenty-two years ago)

I agree with Ed. Rise @ BPC. But everyone's got to agree to pay big bucks for a drink. We don't have to stay there but it needs to be done at least once.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 17:26 (twenty-two years ago)

All FAPs should start with really classy, Martinis, Manhattens or Old Fashioneds.

I don't think yer average Sam Smith's would be much good for any of those, sadly.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 17:26 (twenty-two years ago)

my point exactly. Freud, anyone.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 17:27 (twenty-two years ago)

FYI the martinis are excellent at Rise but they cost like $47 each or something (note: this is untrue, but it's more than $10). They also serve beer, but it's like $7 for a beer probably. But WHY would you have a beer while standing on the outdoor terrace being posh? That's ludicrious. No, you drink a martini.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 17:51 (twenty-two years ago)

you all need to come to worcester and go to the lucky dog with me. $2.00 bottled beers and $1.00 drafts.

Chris V. (Chris V), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 18:06 (twenty-two years ago)

ILX's mystery missing thread system has hidden my new Cocktail Thread.

$10 martini doesn't seem that bad. Depends on the view really. And they better not shake the bloody thing or get ice in my glass as they do at muse.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 18:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Your all overpaying for drinks.

Chris V. (Chris V), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 18:14 (twenty-two years ago)

dahling you aren't just paying for a drink, you're paying to keep the plebs out, mwah.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 18:15 (twenty-two years ago)

true.

Chris V. (Chris V), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 18:17 (twenty-two years ago)

You are overpaying but it's the ambiance that you are paying for. Obviously a martini is not worth $15 in terms of materials, that's ludicrious, but neither are CDs.

Ed, they won't do any such thing. I promise. They've got some phenomenal flavored martinis there too, the Apple one is fantastic, not that horrible made-with-Pucker green crap you get most places, and they rim it with cinnamon sugar. Plain martinis there are good, but the flavored ones are the best flavored ones you'll get. The view is great, it's on the 14th floor? Something like that, overlooks the Statue of Liberty. There's an outdoor terrace, fantastic in summer. Not recommended in the dead of winter, which we did at the Christmas party (I think we wanted to smoke or something like that).

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 18:18 (twenty-two years ago)

hehehe "rim it".

Chris V. (Chris V), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 18:20 (twenty-two years ago)

I think you should bust out some Bobby Brown, actually.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 18:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Ronny, Bobby, Ricky and Mike....they're all the same. Besides I'm saving the Bobby Brown for when I come to an NY fap...or NY comes to Boston.

Chris V. (Chris V), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 18:56 (twenty-two years ago)

We came to Boston a long time ago, when "we" was like 4 people. It was a destructive and fearsome night. You don't want us back there.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 18:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Alright, I guess i'll have to come to NY.

Chris V. (Chris V), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 19:03 (twenty-two years ago)

That night was hilarious. I really liked how Stephanie was unsubtly stalking Otis all night.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 19:15 (twenty-two years ago)

The best part of the night was when she ran down me and Ramon, when I went back to the room to talk him out of his inexplicable temper tantrum.

Me: Why did you come back?
Stephanie: Because I forgot my room key.
Me: Then how did you get in here?
Stephanie: Shut up!

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 19:20 (twenty-two years ago)

HAHAHA CLASSIC! (Even more classic than Otis getting his ID yanked.)

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 19:29 (twenty-two years ago)

You missed the best part of the night, which was when we went to Amherst and me and Ramon attempted to sleep while Stephanie and Otis repeatedly ran into walls, screaming, and smacked each other with sticks. Singing Beatles songs.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 20:20 (twenty-two years ago)

HAHA best conversation ever:

Bouncer: Alright, so, if this is your ID, what's your zip code?
Otis: Um, I don't know.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 20:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Ohh a posh FAP cool...okay until then an UWS honoring the BNW fire FAP sounds good. Name the date.

Mary (Mary), Thursday, 20 March 2003 07:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Nickalicious = jealous of NYC ILX kruw. Hardkorr.

ReverendWilliamNicholasColeman (nickalicious), Thursday, 20 March 2003 07:34 (twenty-two years ago)

er, envious

NICKuhlishyus (nickalicious), Thursday, 20 March 2003 07:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Um, April 18th.

Ally (mlescaut), Thursday, 20 March 2003 14:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Surely ILx is cooler than Brother Jimmy's or Jake's Dilemma? Or is it popist to like UWS frat bars?

gabbneb (gabbneb), Thursday, 20 March 2003 14:39 (twenty-two years ago)

If you recommend a cooler bar uptown, they have bitch fits over the prices. Ergo, college bars.

Ally (mlescaut), Thursday, 20 March 2003 14:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Cool let's rock it.

Mary (Mary), Thursday, 20 March 2003 22:11 (twenty-two years ago)

I have somewhere cooler to be on 4/18

(not really, just trying to get into the snooty, posh atmosphere)

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Thursday, 20 March 2003 22:20 (twenty-two years ago)

You do not you filthy liar.

Potion is cool in a totally-different-from-regular-scene obnoxious type of stereotypical way that I love, but Tracer Hand hates it because he decided apropos of nothing that it's really expensive (it isn't, there's only one drink on the menu that is expensive and it's crap anyway).

4/18 then. I will finalize details in coming weeks. Tune in next time!

Was everyone serious about the Ritz thing? Because that'd be totally awesome, we could take a bunch of ridiculous, glamorous pictures, and leave. It'd make all the other cities so jealous!

Ally (mlescaut), Thursday, 20 March 2003 22:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Yanc3y is so obviously lying about that, since the year doesn't even have 18 months!

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 20 March 2003 22:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh that British wit!

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Thursday, 20 March 2003 22:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh you two.

I'm going to christen the 4/18 FAP as my birthday FAP even though it's not on my birthday even remotely.

Ally (mlescaut), Thursday, 20 March 2003 22:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Is the Ritz the most posh place in NYC? What does Ed Lover have to say?

Mary (Mary), Thursday, 20 March 2003 23:05 (twenty-two years ago)

What about the Hudson Hotel?

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Thursday, 20 March 2003 23:06 (twenty-two years ago)

I hate the bar at the Hudson. They are more posh at Hudson in terms of how crappy they treat you. The new Ritz will not refuse you for not wearing flashy clothing. also: balcony overlooking water which is much nicer than Hudson which overlooks nothing.

Ally (mlescaut), Thursday, 20 March 2003 23:09 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm not sure it has enough olde world charm. But I'm willing to try it. Though I get feeling we want to be the youngest people there in a sort of out of place way, not trying to fit in with the high rollers in a Soho Grande kind of way.

Mary (Mary), Thursday, 20 March 2003 23:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes, that's what I'm thinking. Being the young and glamorous types is not easy at the Hudson because the only people the bouncers let in are Chelsea Boys and model girls.

Ally (mlescaut), Thursday, 20 March 2003 23:12 (twenty-two years ago)

I've been to the Hudson! Am I a Chelsea Boy or a Model Girl?

I think trying to fit into the Soho Grande would be great. I would start by wearing clean clothes. And maybe combing my hair.

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Thursday, 20 March 2003 23:15 (twenty-two years ago)

I've been to the Hudson too. It was a work thing.

hstencil, Thursday, 20 March 2003 23:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Olde Worlde people! We're talking Gramercy Park like.

Mary (Mary), Thursday, 20 March 2003 23:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Olde World = Subwaye Inn

gabbneb (gabbneb), Friday, 21 March 2003 04:43 (twenty-two years ago)

The TriBeCa Grande has a nicer bar.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 21 March 2003 04:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Can't we just go to the Hamptons? We can rent an SUV and run over poor people on our way there.

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Friday, 21 March 2003 04:57 (twenty-two years ago)

ehh i've been to the subway inne, i don wanna go that olde worlde!

Mary (Mary), Friday, 21 March 2003 06:04 (twenty-two years ago)

well, this summer after I've moved into my new place, my new landlord is going to Italy for a year. So we can have FABBQ&P!

hstencil, Friday, 21 March 2003 15:17 (twenty-two years ago)

EVERYONE we are going to the Ritz because my company owns it and ACTIVELY dispromotes the idea of the employees going there because apparently we're unacceptable. DO YOU SEE?

Ally (mlescaut), Saturday, 22 March 2003 00:14 (twenty-two years ago)

[scales falling from eyes] kinda!
