This is the thread where we talk about the Joe Millionaire finale

Well that's over. Um, if you keep saying, "There's a really big twist that EVERYONE will be talking about," chances are 1) it's not that big and 2) no one will want to talk about it. I mean, c'mon, this is Fox! He should've been an alien AT LEAST.

Anyway, the way Evan let down Sarah was pretty classic. "Um, I'm not a millionaire.......................and I didn't pick you." Glump! AND she made that stupid face. Oh well. And I have to admit that I didn't think he was gonna pick Zora by the speech he was giving. So chalk up one for that.

But, really, the end was a bit of a necessary letdown. Time to move on with our lives, much like the young Evan and Zora as they find out if love really can exist outside of the fairy tale. Oh, the girl I'm seeing thinks that now that Evan has $500,000 there's no way he'll stay with Zora and will party all the time, cuz "the only reason he makes $19,000 a year is because he's lazy." So now that he has all that money he'll be VERY lazy.

Aaron W (Aaron W), Tuesday, 18 February 2003 13:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Yep, I was fooled by his speech to Zora AND I was fooled by Zora's speech to him at the end which starts out, "Uh... This is difficult to say..." or something like that. Oh, silly me letting myself get manipulated by people on a FOX reality show.

But yeah, totally too much build-up for that ending. And it def doesn't sound like they stay together. I mean, why would they just be reuniting next week? When was this filmed? I'm confused.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 18 February 2003 14:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, at least Zora got half a million. It was a completely boring let-down, nothing remotely evil or Fox-ian like I was expecting.

Nicole (Nicole), Tuesday, 18 February 2003 14:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Sorry, I was too busy jumping between the dueling Michael Jackson exploitationsspecials to watch.

hstencil, Tuesday, 18 February 2003 14:47 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm too scared to watch any of that Michael Jackson stuff. He creeps me out. And also, it makes me sad because I used to really like him (Beat it/Thriller,etc).

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 18 February 2003 14:48 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm more into this Tony Millionaire guy that cropped up on the ILX as cartoon characters thread - Drinky Crow is hilarious

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 18 February 2003 14:48 (twenty-two years ago)

I think Evan chose wisely, but he seemslike kind of a dullard. I imagine he will soon be demanding Bud's fromn her while he watches football

Mike Hanle y (mike), Tuesday, 18 February 2003 14:49 (twenty-two years ago)

really, they probably only take home like $200,000 so nobody's anywhere close to being a millionaire.

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Tuesday, 18 February 2003 14:56 (twenty-two years ago)

I guess Joe Millionaire at least gets to live the high life for a bit...

From Ye Olde Page Six:

"JOE Millionaire" star Evan Marriott might only make $19,000 a year in real life, but New Yorkers are treating him like a superstar. Last week, Marriott caught Tommy Hilfiger's fashion show and was seen outside the Bryant Park tents chatting up Nicky Hilton before causing a stir at Smith & Wollensky. A gaggle of girls spotted Marriott leaving the restaurant and bombarded his limousine, begging for autographs and asking where he would be "later that night." After begging off, Marriott caught the Knicks at the Garden.

Heh. Marriott and Hilton.

Aaron W (Aaron W), Tuesday, 18 February 2003 15:18 (twenty-two years ago)

also, of the last three hours of JM, there was only about 10 minutes of "new" footage..I think this must be a record for virtual content.

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Tuesday, 18 February 2003 15:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Here's the question I had for my girlfriend last night: there was some obvious biasing going on in the way Zora and Sarah were being presented, Zora with the talking to animals, Disney animation, never saying anything negative about anyone, etc., and Sarah with the bondage, being a bitch after not being picked, etc. How intentional do you think the obviousness of this biasing was? I mean, do the Fox people think that people are so stupid they wouldn't notice? Or did they make it over the top on purpose? If the latter, was it for entertainment value, or a satirical mockery of the more subtle biasing that goes on in other reality shows? Or am I giving the execs too much credit?

Nick A. (Nick A.), Tuesday, 18 February 2003 15:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Horace-- What about the half hour combined of Paul the Butler saying, "Stay tuned for the really big twist blah blah blah"?

Aaron W (Aaron W), Tuesday, 18 February 2003 15:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Nick, I think you're giving 'em too much credit. If anything, I think they were playing up the virgin/whore dilly-o.
Did anyone else think it was poetic justice that Sara, who kept calling everyone else "naive" was thoroughly exposed as a giver of oral delights despite her moronic attempts to conceal her words/actions.

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Tuesday, 18 February 2003 15:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, why did Paul keep saying we would NEVER be able to guess the twist?

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 18 February 2003 15:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Nicky Hilton...that sounds familiar. Oh yes, she received the unfortunate ILX treatment here:

say something interesting about this webpage:

Ernest P. (ernestp), Tuesday, 18 February 2003 15:29 (twenty-two years ago)

It's a shame that Fox hyped and advertised the twist or it could have been potentially surprising -- or at least potentially dramatic instead of just anti-climactic. Did anyone who wasn't watching prior to this past week think: 'I'm not really interested in the show but hold on, there's gonna be a twist -- I better tune in, then.'

scott pl. (scott pl.), Tuesday, 18 February 2003 15:53 (twenty-two years ago)

It's a shame that Fox hyped and advertised the twist

You expected them to do otherwise?

At the time of the broadcast I was falling asleep in San Diego due to two extremely boring opening bands. Perhaps I should have been falling asleep to the show instead.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 18 February 2003 15:56 (twenty-two years ago)

You expected them to do otherwise?

Did they do so before people got all huffy about last week's episode? Fox wanted enough to calm the people who thought they were done wrong by the clip show to have Paul film a new intro for this week's episode that addressed the issue and stressed that there would be a twist that no-one will guess and not even Evan knows about. (this is assuming that those intros weren't always filmed so close to the show's original air date)

No Alex at all this episode, either. "Host." heh.

scott pl. (scott pl.), Tuesday, 18 February 2003 16:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Sarah is a moron. I loved that they had a lipreader transcribe her conversation with whatsherface and confirmed that she went down on Evan like the stock market on a jittery day.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 18 February 2003 16:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Zing! You go Dan!

Aaron W (Aaron W), Tuesday, 18 February 2003 16:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Her fake smile when Evan told her the truth and dumped her was pretty funny.

Nicole (Nicole), Tuesday, 18 February 2003 16:07 (twenty-two years ago)

"Did you think that that mattered?"

"OF COURSE I DID YOU OPPORTUNISTIC HOOVER!"

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 18 February 2003 16:08 (twenty-two years ago)

As wholesome and pure of heart as Zora came across, doesn't the fact that she was on such a show in the first place make her a de facto golddigger?

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Tuesday, 18 February 2003 16:10 (twenty-two years ago)

I think the fact that she was willing to continue seeing Evan after he told her he was broke argues against gold-digger claims. She probably went on for the adventure and to see France.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 18 February 2003 16:12 (twenty-two years ago)

THat's what I was thinkin', Horace.

I'm so sad Alex wasn't on the show more. I really miss her on Trading Spaces. :(

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 18 February 2003 16:13 (twenty-two years ago)

That was a pretty sweet gig for her though, she like worked what? a total of 20 minutes over the course of her month in France. We should all be so lucky. Cuz on TradSpac, it's like 24 hours out of 48.

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Tuesday, 18 February 2003 16:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Yup. How come when I just searched for pix of Alex McLeod I got a bajillion porn pop-ups? Did she pose for Maxim or something?

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 18 February 2003 16:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Or maybe she just went on with it so the papers wouldn't all say she only cared about the money the next day. I mean she could just dump him anytime afterwards

That was sad though. Really pathetic. The whole Cinderella thing irritated me. I was hoping she really was a man.
