when my mum and dad moved house when i was 12, it was the worst thing ever: in a way i *still* don't think of where they live now (for 30 years!) as more than a temporary error — and (bcz 12 is quite an impressionable age) it pushed me towards completely repressing my feelings abt EVERYTHING through my teenhood and beyond, so as not to have to deal with this one thing (actually there were other things too at the same time, but this was a major one)

mark s (mark s), Friday, 28 February 2003 12:16 (twenty-two years ago)

but what i found since is that my memories of that first house are kind of unspoiled, and it's a good thing to think of to relax me and just generally think nice thoughts when all is frazzled

mark s (mark s), Friday, 28 February 2003 12:20 (twenty-two years ago)

it took a while to get to that, but it was good once i did

nothing is forever, but nothing really goes away either

Hey Alex is your bodega going to be different?

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Friday, 28 February 2003 13:06 (twenty-two years ago)

I moved when I was 11 and I attach such romantic notions to my lost childhood home that I suspect it might be a bit unhealthy. But I'm glad I've got this place in my head (however different from the reality) which I still know well.

Sam (chirombo), Friday, 28 February 2003 13:17 (twenty-two years ago)

mark s, i have dreams about my childhood home all the time. it haunts me constantly.

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Friday, 28 February 2003 13:17 (twenty-two years ago)

alex: hope the move goes well.

keep honoring the fire!

I moved countries when I was 13. I had to learn a new language (english), to adapt to a diff culture and to a diff climate. There were good and bad days but hang on in there.

*hugs* for alex.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Friday, 28 February 2003 13:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Suffice to say, it's been a really difficult couple of days for me. I know I talk an awful lot of bluster (read: hot air), but I'm not quite as iron-clad as one might've otherwise expected. Thanks to you all. I really mean it. I'm so completely down in the dumps, and I don't know how to feel better. But this has definetely brightened up my evening

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 28 February 2003 23:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Alex cheer up! We wuv you and your honoring of the eternal fwame . . . I think a NYILXFAP would cheer you up . . . and softball season is right around the corner!

Hey Alex is your bodega going to be different?

Yeah, but we'll be closer to Bagel Bitch....er...I mean Bagel Bob's, for whatever paltry consolation that's worth.

Sorry, I'm just wallowing in self-pity, which is never a good thing. I'd like to thank all of you folks for helping restore my cheer, which has been in desperately short supply.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 1 March 2003 02:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Hi friends, followers and loyal readers. Please excuse the abrupt halt in regular postings here, but there was a death in my family quite recently, and that's obviously put everything else more or less on hold.

Stay tuned. Flaming Pablum will be back in due time.

Thanks for your continued support.

(sending good thoughts his way...)
