Can we have a London Karaoke FAP in, say, a couple of weeks?

Please? I had such a good time last time. The venue was good too. It has to be a Thursday, right?

"If you had one shot, or one opportunity..."

Mark C (Mark C), Tuesday, 15 April 2003 07:45 (twenty-two years ago)

no

gareth (gareth), Tuesday, 15 April 2003 08:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh oh! I'll come this time, I promise! Thursdays are good for me.

Gareth- - mlep! :p

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Tuesday, 15 April 2003 08:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes let's.

Wouldn't you like to know (Amused), Tuesday, 15 April 2003 08:25 (twenty-two years ago)

yes definitely. both the faps there were great.

toby (tsg20), Tuesday, 15 April 2003 08:27 (twenty-two years ago)

This Thursday would be ideal as its a public holiday the next day... but it clashes with something I can't quite put my finger on.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 15 April 2003 08:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Passover.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Tuesday, 15 April 2003 08:33 (twenty-two years ago)

How Does It Feel To Be Loved? No really, how does it? But that's what's on this Thursday, for all the London indie Motown ravers amongst us. Do come along, it's grebt, and takes place in a very red basement bar.

But whoot! Yes, more Pint Pot karaoke FAPs. They are fun, even if the new bloke has a rubbish selection of songs.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Tuesday, 15 April 2003 08:35 (twenty-two years ago)

First of May, then?

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Tuesday, 15 April 2003 08:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Is the next day a holiday?

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Tuesday, 15 April 2003 08:54 (twenty-two years ago)

I think the following Monday (May the 4th... yes, yes) is the International Workers Day this year.

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Tuesday, 15 April 2003 08:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Doh - May the 5th I meant.

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Tuesday, 15 April 2003 08:58 (twenty-two years ago)

No no no, Robster and I are in Paris then! Oh go on then if you must, but understand that I will have to curse you and all your descendants.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Tuesday, 15 April 2003 08:59 (twenty-two years ago)

This is why I suggested a couple of weeks :)

Mark C (Mark C), Tuesday, 15 April 2003 10:20 (twenty-two years ago)

ooh I might come to this. then you can all hate me in the flesh as well as online

j0e (j0e), Tuesday, 15 April 2003 10:28 (twenty-two years ago)

STEVEM TO THREAD!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 15 April 2003 10:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Does stevem do "born slippy" at karaoke FAPs?

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Tuesday, 15 April 2003 10:36 (twenty-two years ago)

He does now.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 15 April 2003 10:37 (twenty-two years ago)

*bags "Lose Yourself" before anyone else claims it*

Mark C (Mark C), Tuesday, 15 April 2003 10:40 (twenty-two years ago)

may 1 is...um...the huey lewis concert. (now that i've said that, no one will want to meet me anyway!)

colette (a2lette), Tuesday, 15 April 2003 10:47 (twenty-two years ago)

I want to do "The Boys Are Back In Town".

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Tuesday, 15 April 2003 10:47 (twenty-two years ago)

'Born Slippy' would be too obvious for me, i was actually planning on either Chas n Dave's 'Sideboard Song', Digital Underground's 'Humpty Dance' or something by my discovery of the week, BJ Thomas

i think Matt should do Run DMC so his e-mail name is even more apt and phunny

1st of May sounds perfect

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 15 April 2003 10:48 (twenty-two years ago)

steve did you get my e-mail, i sent it to base not blueski.

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 15 April 2003 10:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Oi! No May 1 FAKP, awwight? Or I will have to stage a Parisian situationist riot. Reclaim the sTWEEts, muthas. Week after that pretty please.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Tuesday, 15 April 2003 10:54 (twenty-two years ago)

What about the week before - April 24th?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 15 April 2003 10:54 (twenty-two years ago)

I'd be late on the 24th (dinner with a cousin), but it's possible. I'd prefer a different week, as if I am to stay night-bus late (and if I can't get there until late, it's pointless coming at all if I don't stay late) I want to book the next day off work, and next week is a three day week for us anyway, and there's too much to do to book another day off.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 15 April 2003 11:32 (twenty-two years ago)

any date beyond this month and i will lose all interest - ha, so be warned

Ronan, my base58 server has been for 24 hours + so not got it yet - hang on...

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 15 April 2003 11:42 (twenty-two years ago)

I can do the 24th, I think. Dissenters, now's the time to speak up...

Mark C (Mark C), Tuesday, 15 April 2003 15:48 (twenty-two years ago)

I'll be far away from London on the 24th.

Also I can't do any Thursdays now...that's when I have my bereavement counselling sessions.

Marcello Carlin, Tuesday, 15 April 2003 18:05 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't know yet, but I may be in Turin on the 24th

Anna (Anna), Tuesday, 15 April 2003 18:10 (twenty-two years ago)

It's the day before pay day - I'll be at home eating toast.

chris (chris), Wednesday, 16 April 2003 07:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Same here, actually, so the 24th might actually be a bit tricky for me. I also have to move house that weekend so will be at home packing, probably. May 1st looks better, or even the weekend after it.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 16 April 2003 08:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Chris, I'll lend you twenty quid. That is a terrible excuse.

May 8th? Is that good with everyone?

Mark C (Mark C), Wednesday, 16 April 2003 08:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Woo! You are my hero with a shiny head Marco!

Liz :x (Liz :x), Wednesday, 16 April 2003 08:31 (twenty-two years ago)

I can't do the 8th

and I want to come and play :(

j0e (j0e), Wednesday, 16 April 2003 08:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh this is all too complicated. Bah.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Wednesday, 16 April 2003 08:50 (twenty-two years ago)

I can do it any day except the 6th (or weekends),

*deep breath*

Guess who just got back today?/Those wild-eyed boys that had been away/Haven't changed, haven't much to say/But man, I still think those cats are crazy

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Wednesday, 16 April 2003 08:53 (twenty-two years ago)

hahaha, look how they flounder without a steering committee ;)

next week no good for me, but don't let that stop you...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Wednesday, 16 April 2003 09:00 (twenty-two years ago)

is it only Thursdays they do it at the pub then?

looks like we need ILX's very own landlord to pick a date and stick a date, where's Tom?

May 8th is too faraway - how about THIS thursday? we can have a sing-song then pop up to Mornington Crescent for a shindig at Zatek

NOTE - i do not use words like 'singsong' and 'shindig' in real life ok?

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 16 April 2003 09:06 (twenty-two years ago)

This Thursday is Mark C on the wheels of steel, so I don't think rival FAPs will be appreciated.

I vote May 1st, because the 8th is ages away, and I want j0e to come, although I am agonising that this means coming between Liz and Avril.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 16 April 2003 09:10 (twenty-two years ago)

fnarr fnarr

Mark C DJing? where? Ronan's in town as well...sorry houseboy, your secret is out

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 16 April 2003 09:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Oops yes I am going to be in Zatek near Mornington Crescent tube on Thursday, my friend and my brother and various people I know (maybe myself too, RARE APPEARANCE) are djing. I don't mind if noone goes along, but anyone is welcome, sorry Mark C I am not intending to steal your punters!

I'm also thinking of going to Dave Clarke in Fabric on Friday if anyone fancies some humourless techno.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 16 April 2003 09:15 (twenty-two years ago)

oh and Jon Carter in the Medicine Bar on Friday if anyone's up for that, it's free. And Deep Dish in Dublin on Sunday, come along to that too.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 16 April 2003 09:16 (twenty-two years ago)

shit, ok then, I can't abide karaoke then (yeah yeah, or fun), that's my real excuse.

anyone up for champagne with us and my mother on Saturday night?

chris (chris), Wednesday, 16 April 2003 09:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Oops, I cannae do this Thursday, either.

Ronan-I can't go on Friday, but love Dave Clarke. I thought everyone on ILX hated him.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Wednesday, 16 April 2003 09:18 (twenty-two years ago)

don't forget to mention that Zatek is more of a post-pub thing, so it probably wouldnt clash with anything else going on beforehand

Jon Carter at Medicine Bar? that could be heavenly or hellish depending on various factors...if i'm still intact after Thursday then i may check it oot

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 16 April 2003 09:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes Zatek goes till 2 I'm told, so maybe no clashes.

I like Dave Clarke Nordicskillz, the more 80s he gets the more I enjoy it though, I must say.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 16 April 2003 09:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Mark C: How does it Feel to be Love? next Thursday

I'm quite up for Zatek as well though, and I want to meet Ronan. But an old mate of mine is over from Ireland and I can really see this long weekend fading into a haze of beer and sunshine with a break for chocolate eggs and dinner with the family on Sunday.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 16 April 2003 09:22 (twenty-two years ago)

me too, it's a beautiful vision! Admittedly my parents are away for the weekend so I eat the eggs alone when I get back on Sunday.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 16 April 2003 09:25 (twenty-two years ago)

you guys still get eggs? no fair

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 16 April 2003 09:26 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm wandering round central London job-hunting today. In a suit. And a lime-green shirt.

And I might be along for this, though I think the parents may want me home...

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Thursday, 1 May 2003 09:56 (twenty-two years ago)

We are your parents, Mr Swygart.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Thursday, 1 May 2003 10:03 (twenty-two years ago)

and will dave q make an appaerance and sing us some donna summer?

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Thursday, 1 May 2003 10:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Corps is mother. Corps is father.

kate, Thursday, 1 May 2003 10:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Corps is at Camp Granada?

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 1 May 2003 10:09 (twenty-two years ago)

*notes down "Camp Granada" to sing tonight*

Kate, also, there are probably going to be a fair number of us so the group'll hardly be much reduced when people are away singing. Though obviously I require y'all to come and cheer and \m/ me while I'm doing my turn, natch.

Mark C (Mark C), Thursday, 1 May 2003 10:19 (twenty-two years ago)

oh no, loads of people are turning up, oh no...

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 1 May 2003 10:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes Kate, it's quite easy to avoid the karaoke. Except when Pete is doing The Voice, that is. For anyone new coming, not least Nordicskillz, I'll be there by 6 in a black suit and white shirt, and my photo is on my profile here.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 1 May 2003 10:48 (twenty-two years ago)

I want to ask Pete if he will send this message to the cute girl who is working in the SOAS shop today -----> " Hi. *blush* (looks at floor)".

On second thoughts, maybe don't.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Thursday, 1 May 2003 11:09 (twenty-two years ago)

*waits patiently for the drunk report in a few hours*

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 1 May 2003 17:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, I'm dead fucking sober - lots of people there, a few of whom I didn't know (to those, I was the skinny kid in the suit, with the glasses), place rammed, some tramp got in a fight with security theat involved them dong some strange square dance with one of the outdoor table and chair sets, waltzing violently up and down the front of the pub.

The Student socialists protest marched past, and were generally agreed to have been rather underwhelming.

I left around eight because I hadn't told my parents where I was. I get home, they'd just assumed I was staying out uptown. GRAH.

This makes me an utter definite for the next FAP, because I was rubbish this evening and wholeheartedly apologise to everyone else for my... rubbishness. Jerry, I'm sure you did Mr Curtis proud.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Thursday, 1 May 2003 21:13 (twenty-two years ago)

not drunk either (I only drink orange juice anyway). had to go early bcz I got a meeting at 9 am (bah!).

william- i saw you but you were on the other side so i couldn't chat.

nice meeting nordicz and stevem for the first time.

toby- just finished hearing the first rallizes CDR. thanks. hopefully you'll enjoy 'strumming music'.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Thursday, 1 May 2003 21:39 (twenty-two years ago)

me drunk. had a blast - nice to meet Mark S, Mark C, Adam Nordic, Julio and Martin...didnt get a chance to speak to others but next time i hope.

you will be pleased to know j0e and i massacred 'Don't You Want Me' to great effect - i then teamed up with Matt DC for a rousing rendition of PJ & Duncan's 'Lets Get Ready To Rhumble' - only problem was we never worked out which one of us was Ant and which was Dec. i was denied Kid Creole tho, fuxors...

stevem (blueski), Friday, 2 May 2003 01:36 (twenty-two years ago)

It was fun! I wish I'd had something to eat beforehand, though...

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Friday, 2 May 2003 04:51 (twenty-two years ago)

...nice to meet/see everyone (including HSA!). ILX0rs in real life! in 3-D! With Robert Altman-style overlapping dialogue!

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Friday, 2 May 2003 04:53 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm dying

j0e (j0e), Friday, 2 May 2003 07:29 (twenty-two years ago)

but yes it was ACES and it was lovely to meet so many of you

shame I never got to do "Like a Prayer" tho

j0e (j0e), Friday, 2 May 2003 07:43 (twenty-two years ago)

I also the enjoyed the atmosphere of hushed awe that accompanied Mark C's entrance!

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Friday, 2 May 2003 07:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Sorry I had to put in the briefest of appearances... found out that yes, indeed, HSA expected me to accompany him to the Soundart Thing at the ICA. So I came by for exactly one drink, found myself chatting to someone who turned out to be Nordicskilz, and then the random tramp incident - it was very funny, unintentionally so, because he kept picking up chairs to attack the bouncer with and the bouncer kept grabbing them away until the bouncer had a chair under each arm, and then the tramp grabbed another chair and ran off.

And then HSA arrived to drag me away (slightly disturbed to find me drinking with EIGHTEEN BOYS from the INTERNET but pleased that he managed to drag me away) and we went to the ICA to listen to sound recordings of sheep shearing. You think I'm kidding?

But, erm yes. I wish I'd stayed. It looked like it was going to be a fun one! And HSA wants to come to the next FAP! (I think Mark S. really impressed him with the bear story.) Ha ha! Mark S. embarrassing me by telling HSA "Oh, BTW, I have that PICTURE you are looking for in the archive!" and instead of being mad, HSA asked "Oh, you have access to the archives? Can you find the picture of my KITTY that I gave them?"

Ace. I just wish I didn't have such a hangover.

kate, Friday, 2 May 2003 07:59 (twenty-two years ago)

I can verify the above kitty anecdote.

Adam Nordic

Hush! ;)

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Friday, 2 May 2003 08:00 (twenty-two years ago)

hey, that was good. glad i left when i did, cos i managed to get into work by 9 without a hangover. also i was dead on my feet, as i'm sure was obvious.

wish i'd stayed around for "let's get ready to rumble". don't you want me was fun, though. some good performances from the nipper, too (oh, and stevie - bizarrely enough "anagrams" is in imperial's (tiny) fiction library, so i'll be reading it over the weekend).

toby (tsg20), Friday, 2 May 2003 08:16 (twenty-two years ago)

toast and coke are so the best things ever

apologies to those people who I didn't get to speak to, my manners go out of the window when I'm drunk

j0e (j0e), Friday, 2 May 2003 08:18 (twenty-two years ago)

toast and coke are so the best things ever

You're too decadent for words, j0e.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Friday, 2 May 2003 08:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Truly I live the life of a footballer's wife.

j0e (j0e), Friday, 2 May 2003 08:29 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah it was alright, sorry i turned up so late, i struggle to get out before 930 at moment. im not so into the karaoke but lets get ready to rumble was pretty good. over the system there was roy davis jr gabriel, and i was well impressed, i thought it was a karaoke choice, i'd like to see someone do that one.

also, whoever did chesney hawkes i am the one and only, i thought it was Nirvana and not chesney...

gareth (gareth), Friday, 2 May 2003 08:37 (twenty-two years ago)

I missed Gareth???

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Friday, 2 May 2003 08:42 (twenty-two years ago)

gareth didn't turn up til 10...

toby (tsg20), Friday, 2 May 2003 08:47 (twenty-two years ago)

i think Tom stole the show with 'fucking Vienna' possibly...

stevem (blueski), Friday, 2 May 2003 09:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Good to meet stevem and j0e, though I'm sad Nordy left before I could say hello. Most XY-chromosomed FAP evah!

Hushed awe? I'm pretty sure that was because as I walked in the door, the tramp had just picked up a metal chair and everyone inside was about to be showered with shrapnel...

Nice to think people were entranced by my entrance (DO YOU SEE?) though... But were they as entranced by my Spice Girls? Um, no.

Mark C (Mark C), Friday, 2 May 2003 13:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Yo, where was the girls at?

I've just come into the office on my day off to check my email and the Interweb? How fucking sad is that?

It was a grebt night - nice to meet Nordic and the HSA. I had no idea how ludicrous the words to Lets Get Ready To Rhumble actually were.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 2 May 2003 14:33 (twenty-two years ago)

I am disappointed that there have only been two people commenting on HSA! I promised him that there would be GOSSIPING about him today, about which he was very excited. So come on, please. Comment about his handsomeness and his artisticness and his, erm, soundness, please!

Phwoar, etc.!

kate, Friday, 2 May 2003 14:57 (twenty-two years ago)

wo, hold up a second kate, you're got a boyfriend now?!

stevem (blueski), Friday, 2 May 2003 15:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Stevem, have you been asleep for the past two months?

kate, Friday, 2 May 2003 15:16 (twenty-two years ago)

muahaha....i just missed you and he in the pub - maybe next time...

stevem (blueski), Friday, 2 May 2003 15:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, I did say. BF saw me in the pub drinking in the company of EIGHTEEN BOYS from the INTERNET and dragged me out of there pretty quick. Not that the gender ratio at the ICA soundart thing was any better, but at least he felt like the Alpha Male there, or something... ;-)

kate, Friday, 2 May 2003 15:20 (twenty-two years ago)

i didnt even notice the stupidly high male ratio last night (but then isnt that like a reflection of this board anyway?) until carsmile pointed out no women in the pub at all were going up to sing (i think 1 did in the end but god knows) - this totally sucks btw, as girls are rather good, in general...

stevem (blueski), Friday, 2 May 2003 15:34 (twenty-two years ago)

yes, girls are great!

I'm sad Nordy left before I could say hello

Aaah, Mark C, that's really sweet! You like just like your pictures! ;)

I really liked all the people I spoke to. I am sorry Toby, Tom, Steve, Mrs Steve, Pinefox, William, Jerry, AND Mark that I didn't get to talk to yous. Let's do it again soon.

HSA IS GOD'S FINEST CREATION, HE IS CLEARLY AN ARTIST OF GREAT TALENT. IN THE BRIEF SECONDS THAT I MET HIM, HE PROVED HIMSELF AN EXEMPLAR OF HANDSOMENESS, CULTURAL NOUS, AND THE KIND OF FINE BREEDING THAT I HAD OTHERWISE BELIEVED A LOST ART. In other words - phwoaar! If I liked men, I'd fight you for him. He's very tall, too. Score!

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Friday, 2 May 2003 18:48 (twenty-two years ago)

We shouldn't forget that there were appearances from Sarah and Alix, as well as Kate.

It was great to meet Joe, nordicskillz and stevem. I'm not a viewer of Footballers' Wives, but I shall now imagine that all of the characters are just like Joe. I suspect this version is more fun than the real thing. Sorry I can't say anything of use about your Joe, Kate, but we didn't really talk.

It was suggested that the drunken tramp who stupidly and persistently had a go at a bouncer clearly out of his league, and was hopelessly trying to get in with no idea how to do so, was probably Calum.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 2 May 2003 19:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Almost forgot I had this:

Tom Ewing and Jerry the Nipper are so embarrassed as their sartorial limitations are revealed.

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/biondino/photos/embarrassed.jpg

Mark C (Mark C), Saturday, 3 May 2003 08:40 (twenty-two years ago)

"You have to go home and change!" "No, YOU go home and change!"

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 3 May 2003 10:12 (twenty-two years ago)

That actually might be the best photo of our lord and master Ewing ever.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 3 May 2003 16:30 (twenty-two years ago)

He's plotting something...something big.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Sunday, 4 May 2003 08:19 (twenty-two years ago)

and Jerry is his smarmy Smithers-style henchman.

"Exxxxxxxcellent, Mr Ewing, Exxxcellent! Mwahahahaha!".

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Sunday, 4 May 2003 09:29 (twenty-two years ago)

three years pass...
haha, mark c reckoned that the pint pot was a good venue.

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 28 September 2006 12:11 (nineteen years ago)

this was a good night. my first FAP.

Konal Doddz (blueski), Thursday, 28 September 2006 12:48 (nineteen years ago)

the end of innocence...

Konal Doddz (blueski), Thursday, 28 September 2006 12:50 (nineteen years ago)

It was a great venue, at one point. My first FAP (not this one tho I think)!

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 28 September 2006 12:52 (nineteen years ago)

never liked the pub itself - people only went there for karaoke+late-ish closing innit

Konal Doddz (blueski), Thursday, 28 September 2006 12:56 (nineteen years ago)

What happened to Ken's idea to hire out one or more of those karaoke booths?

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Thursday, 28 September 2006 13:00 (nineteen years ago)

erm.. working on it :)

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 28 September 2006 13:11 (nineteen years ago)
