Cats = crazy monkeys

Inane kitty babble!

My cat is fascinated by water and plumbing. When I get out of the shower, she is the first one in. She just stands there and stares at the drain. When I take a smelly shit , as soon as I flush the toilet, the cat has her paws up on the bowl and her head way down in, watching the stuff go down. She loves it! And doesn't seem to mind the smell, either. When you walk into the room holding a glass of water, she's staring at the glass, not you. If you set the glass down, her head will be in it, shortly followed by her paws. She tests to make sure it's still wet, then licks it off her paws and proceeds to cram her head as far in as it will go. I've also caught her sitting on the kitchen counter, just staring at the faucet drip. It's raining her in NYC and my cat is staring out the window...

Other notable crazies: trying to beat me to whatever room she thinks I'm headed to, but often tearing like hell into the completely wrong room by overshooting (I'm going into the LIVING room, not all the way into the kitchen). She begins to bounce off the walls if she gets it wrong several times in succession.

Yeah, kittens like water. Ours used to try and get in the shower with me. Sarah's cat Pepper will drink the hot soapy water out of the bathtub if yr taking a bath. They are nutso.

This goes some way to explaining why cats will eat just about anything.

What's really amazingly intrusive is when kitty bounds into the bathroom while you're having a piss and decides that golden stream is pounce-on-able prey, in manner of bit-of-string or something.

Also: sorry (sorry).

What's ace is when you throw chips for them and they leap up and catch in their mouth, like sealion.

Neither of these are very regular occurrences.

A very thin torch light on a drak wall can keep them entertained for hours.

Well, at least I find it funny anyway.

I have a suncatcher that hangs in my kitchen window. When it's windy out, it turns and shoots little rainbows everywhere. Perfect kitty toy.

When I'm in the bath, my cat used to like sitting on the edge of the bath and drinking the bath water. He stopped doing that after falling in one time.

So that's why that cat in the bookstore wrapped itself around my neck and started sucking on my earlobe!

File that under 'things you never expected to see written about'. I've been using q-tips in front of my cat and he looks at me like I'm eating a turkey sandwich. If I put down the (used) q-tip he'll make a move for it. I was curious if he'd actually try to lick it. He did.

Or is that monkey a crazy cat?

ChristineSH (chrissie1068), Thursday, 1 May 2003 16:13 (twenty-one years ago) link

These are all things my kitty used to do. But today is her 4th birthday and she seems to have grown out of most of those habits. Ah well...

My cat's fourth birthday was only a week ago! They should be best friends!

Sarah, does your cat have a Livejournal?

Chris P (Chris P), Thursday, 1 May 2003 20:15 (twenty-one years ago) link

:( Mine's too lazy. Does yours, Chris?

It always gets me mad when there is a thread about cats and no pictures of cats.

A Nairn (moretap), Friday, 2 May 2003 13:08 (twenty-one years ago) link

so, post some! I've done my time! :)

Sarah McLUsky (coco), Friday, 2 May 2003 14:05 (twenty-one years ago) link

I fondly remember a couple of kittens we took care of for a few days once. One would get on the windowsill behind the curtain and start climbing up, and the other would chase it. Did our curtains no good at all. When my wife was washing up, one climbed up her back and perched on her shoulder (we never checked the pedigree, so I suspect some parrot in the family tree. I am not an expert on genetics, however) and the other would climb on the draining board and try to swat at the bubbles until it fell in.

holy moley, I just realized that my cat is almost 5. Wait, that doesn't make any sense.

And Sarah: Yes she does, I'm not proud to say. ;-)

My cat turned five last month. She's still our little baby kitten, how can she be this old?

rosemary (rosemary), Saturday, 3 May 2003 04:27 (twenty-one years ago) link

dude, cats like camomille tea. stands to reason that they'd like bathwater (esp. camomille bathwater).

Tad (llamasfur), Sunday, 4 May 2003 07:05 (twenty-one years ago) link

So where is it Chris P?

Sarah McLUsky (coco), Monday, 5 May 2003 11:38 (twenty-one years ago) link

five years pass...

WTF both my cats have gone nuts over my shoe. I guess I stepped in something while I was out, it kinda smells/looks like Cornish pastie potato filling, I've wiped it off and everything and they still won't leave it alone. Fucking nutters I tell you.

Colonel Poo, Thursday, 15 May 2008 00:01 (sixteen years ago) link

let me tell you some funny shit, is when these guys jump off trains

deeznuts, Thursday, 15 May 2008 00:02 (sixteen years ago) link

I just think it's funny that such a fierce predator manages to be so ridiculously cute...speaking in general about felix domesticus

dell, Thursday, 15 May 2008 00:03 (sixteen years ago) link

the cat i have inherited often will hide under the couch and then, lying on her back & using one paw, will pull herself out. less feline than car mechanic when it comes to behavior.

omar little, Thursday, 15 May 2008 00:05 (sixteen years ago) link

i had a cat who while on her back would routinely drag herself along the ENTIRE LENGTH of the sofa motherfucker, tho admittedly she used both paws

deeznuts, Thursday, 15 May 2008 00:07 (sixteen years ago) link

Oh the sofa dragging, kinda miss that now we've got leather sofas, they can't get their claws in (which is why we wanted it tbh)

Ex-kitten's STILL going nuts on my shoe. I must've stepped in pure catnip or something.

Colonel Poo, Thursday, 15 May 2008 00:09 (sixteen years ago) link

the dragging stylee is endearing, no doubt. "I will not walk across this rug, I will drag myself along it, as though I am crawling up a wall like Spiderman".

It's all part of their bizarre yet noble insistence upon dignity at all costs.

dell, Thursday, 15 May 2008 00:09 (sixteen years ago) link

dell sums up why cats are awesome. cute lil EVIL TIGERS.
my two male cats that I've had for 3 weeks or so are still mauling each other. not constantly anymore, but consistently.
