some thoughts
it was one of the prettist movies i have seen in a long time.
the queer content was wise and funny.
the concepts of idenity as it relates to private and personal spheres intrigued me.
the acting was subtle when it needed to be subtle and ott when it needed to be ott.
the death of jean grey was sad.
nightcrawlers catholicism was one of the most honest depictions of faith in everyday life, as comfort and as balm, as i have seen-when most religous types are mocked or condemened this was really cool.
magneto as helper, magneto as harm.
what did everyone else think.

Can I recommend the popular thread XMen 2 - Classic or Classic? (spoilers)?

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 3 May 2003 21:22 (twenty-two years ago)

For an old X-Men fan like me it's less a spoiler and more a predictable inevitability and anyway not really the case I imagine.

where's the queer content in X-Men 2 again?

nightcrawlers catholicism was one of the most honest depictions of faith in everyday life, as comfort and as balm, as i have seen-when most religous types are mocked or condemened this was really cool.

this reminded me of something I sometimes think about religious people - that their religion is helpful to them in their lives irrespective of whether it is actually "true" or not (e.g. even if God does not exist and was therefore never incarnated as Jesus of Nazarerth, Christians still get psychological benefits from being Christian).

possibly true DV, the 'richness' of Christian faith processes e.g. reciting well crafted prayers, praying to specific deities or saints etc. can inspire courage, confidence and other qualities often necessary to overcome certain obstacles...this would be true of all religions though, not just Christian

Jean Grey dies? Looks like Phoenix will be popping up in X3. (Too bad "XXX" is already taken)

Charles McCain (Charles McCain), Monday, 5 May 2003 18:40 (twenty-two years ago)

seriously though, what are the queer bits of X-Men, Anthony? do you reckon X and Magneto are former lovers, or is it the leather?

DV (dirtyvicar), Wednesday, 7 May 2003 11:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, Iceman sitting down with his parents and their reaction would be a good place to start.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 7 May 2003 11:23 (twenty-two years ago)

really? so revelation of any uncomfortable facts to ones parents = gayness?

DV (dirtyvicar), Wednesday, 7 May 2003 12:46 (twenty-two years ago)

It's the "I'm a mutant / I'm gay" thing; just what every respectable middle-class parent thinks they can deal with but actually can't.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Wednesday, 7 May 2003 12:58 (twenty-two years ago)

"We still love you, but have you ever tried...not being a mutant?"

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 7 May 2003 13:58 (twenty-two years ago)

OK, got it.
