I flipped the tv to Dawsons Creek and I heard a song I loved.

Dawsons Fucking Creek had a Red House Painters song used on it. I wanted to die. Even though I love the song and the band it pained me greatly to have a song I love on a bad tv show. Does this bother you? What songs of yours have you heard coming from somewhere "unlikely"?

Salteens and B'ehl songs on Dawsons Creek

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Wednesday, 7 May 2003 23:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Doves were played on Scrubs once, during the always awful sentimental reflection part of the show - fittingly it was 'caught by the river' which is the worst Doves song there is.

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 7 May 2003 23:22 (twenty-two years ago)

vini reilly music on that sucky Tom Cruise film about showing people money

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Wednesday, 7 May 2003 23:23 (twenty-two years ago)

this is actually the second time I've heard RHP on the Creakey.

Chris V. (Chris V), Wednesday, 7 May 2003 23:26 (twenty-two years ago)

ugh, I'm watching this awful Kevin Bacon movie and my favorite Kenny Loggins song comes on and I'm all 'no - not that! IS NOTHING SACRED?!!!' - why'd they have to use THAT song????

James Blount (James Blount), Wednesday, 7 May 2003 23:32 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm not sure the perjorative tone was implied

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Wednesday, 7 May 2003 23:34 (twenty-two years ago)

I remember watching some godawful imported cop show round somebody's house. Afghan Whig's "Honky's ladder" got played during a fight sequence and I became unduly excited.

Matt (Matt), Thursday, 8 May 2003 01:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Was it the last episode? What happened? Did someone die?

Mary (Mary), Thursday, 8 May 2003 01:56 (twenty-two years ago)

No, that's next week.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Thursday, 8 May 2003 02:51 (twenty-two years ago)

only all the fucking time whenever they advertise a car or a pair of shoes on TV. And all those MTV interstitials, and nearly all of those VH1 interstitials - though almost never, ever in big movies or actual TV shows. Nowadays that I'm out of the loop electronicawise I find myself feeling frustrated when I can't identify the tunes right away in these contexts.

Millar (Millar), Thursday, 8 May 2003 02:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Which RHP song was it out of curiosity? And Dawson's ain't *that* bad - well its no worse than cutseypie shows like Ed and Gilmore Girls, all of which seem to use cool tracks from time to time.

Some Dead Can Dance song was playing in the middle of CSI the other night, which was a bit startling. I think they were trying to make a tenous goth=BDSM=murder link. This always pisses me off.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 8 May 2003 03:06 (twenty-two years ago)

I also remember a Sigur Ros song being played on CSI as well, during an autopsy or something.

Chris V. (Chris V), Thursday, 8 May 2003 09:11 (twenty-two years ago)

what Dead Can Dance was it Trayce? 'Spiritchaser' LP is my guilty pleasure...

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 8 May 2003 09:16 (twenty-two years ago)

I've also heard Dead Can Dance's "Ariadne" in a Skinemax flick one night.

Chris V. (Chris V), Thursday, 8 May 2003 10:23 (twenty-two years ago)

there is no song yet written which is not improved and indeed *honoured* by being played during an autopsy on csi

mark s (mark s), Thursday, 8 May 2003 10:27 (twenty-two years ago)

the episodes where the guy's going deaf haven't played yet over there have they?

James Blount (James Blount), Thursday, 8 May 2003 10:35 (twenty-two years ago)

it is a running theme

mark s (mark s), Thursday, 8 May 2003 10:38 (twenty-two years ago)

I dont recall the name of the DCD song I'm afraid! I know it, but argh. It was during some dodgy s&m scene, kinda worked well, disturbingly...

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 8 May 2003 10:43 (twenty-two years ago)

I think they used the Cocteau Twin's 'The Thinner the Air' on the episode with the bus.

Alfie (Alfie), Thursday, 8 May 2003 11:44 (twenty-two years ago)

a few years ago i heard a red house painters song for a gap ad. it took me a few seconds to realize i was hearing rhp.
i have no problem with this. it is the norm for bands/artists after they sign to a major label. if it has happened to the clash, ramones, iggy pop, etc. nothing else will really surprise/upset me.

kephm, Thursday, 8 May 2003 11:52 (twenty-two years ago)

david by gusgus was playing in Buffy once, it was the best buffy I have ever seen

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 8 May 2003 11:55 (twenty-two years ago)

"All Mixed Up" was the RHP song in the gap ad. I remember that as well. It doesn't bother me that much, except it was the Creek. Dawson doesnt' like Red House Painters.

Chris V. (Chris V), Thursday, 8 May 2003 13:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Wasn't that a Cars cover?

Charles McCain (Charles McCain), Thursday, 8 May 2003 15:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Si'

Chris V. (Chris V), Thursday, 8 May 2003 15:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh my god the final episode of DC was such a disappointment, I mean, Jen dieing, wtf?

Mary (Mary), Thursday, 15 May 2003 11:28 (twenty-two years ago)

thanks for all the spoilers you USA types

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Thursday, 15 May 2003 11:32 (twenty-two years ago)

OH THANKS FOR THE SPOILERS MARY!

When you say "dying" (I assume), was she slaughtered in an abbatoir thinking that she was another little piggy? Porcine doesn't quite tell the whole story. "Here's some keeping it real alternative rock with Tenacious D"! Ah well I guess that episode will be something to look forward to. Can't they *all* die?

Sarah (starry), Thursday, 15 May 2003 11:33 (twenty-two years ago)

i hope she died looking pouty and gorgeous as always

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Thursday, 15 May 2003 11:33 (twenty-two years ago)

I was folding clothes while watching CSI Miami once and they used Maurizio's M5 for about ten seconds in the distant background.

Dawson's Creek also played the Wedding Present's version of Pleasant Valley Sunday. It woke me from a deep slumber.

Andy K (Andy K), Thursday, 15 May 2003 11:37 (twenty-two years ago)

:( iam sorry nice formerly unspoiled people

Mary (Mary), Thursday, 15 May 2003 11:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Jim, it's spelt "porcine" not "pouty".

I've not watched Dawsons for ages. We now have AS IF on T4 which is a bit too confusing for such an early time on Saturday morning. Currently I think the gayist is having a paddy because his bisexual boyfriends ex girlfriend is still on the scene and also because he is a no good PLAYA. The girl with dreadlocks tried to kill herself (but I don't know why) and the one who wants to be a singer has turned into a beeyatch and er... oh it's too confusing.

Emma to thread!

Sarah (starry), Thursday, 15 May 2003 11:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Is she the blonde? (the one who died)

My sister and her boyfriend were over last night and insisted on watching DC and it turned out I didn't have the WB! Can you imagine?? I mean, I have cable! WTF?!?

Sarah McLUsky (coco), Thursday, 15 May 2003 11:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Sorry Sarah I have only seen 1 of this series of As If. I am not allowed to watch it as it comes right after nearly 2 hours of Hollyoaks omnibus and apparently 2 hours is the limit for watching 'crap' telly (whereas 3000 years is the limit for Zelda ha ha I AM JOKING!)

Emma, Thursday, 15 May 2003 11:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Yep, Jen is the blonde one. I cannot imagine a TV without the WB.

Mary (Mary), Thursday, 15 May 2003 11:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Can we start a thread for the last episode?

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 15 May 2003 14:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes we can: Dawson's Creek Final Episode (Spoilers Ahoy!)

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 15 May 2003 14:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, Interpol's "untitled" came during the big makeout scene in Friends last night.

Chris V. (Chris V), Friday, 16 May 2003 12:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Eurgh.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 16 May 2003 19:46 (twenty-two years ago)

HAHA I thought that was Coldplay!

Joei liked that song for that scene; I have to say it did fit very well. Also, I can no longer hate on "Friends" because they've upped the ante by inlcuding AISHA TAYLOR (YUM YUM GIMME SOME).

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 16 May 2003 19:49 (twenty-two years ago)

You mean they finally showed Manhattan is inhabited by non-Caucasians too? Brilliant!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 16 May 2003 19:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Um, they did that when Ross was dating an Asian woman. Now he's dating AISHA TAYLOR (YYGS).

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 16 May 2003 19:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Or rather, Joey WAS dating her and she dumped him for Ross, so he went and put the mack down on Rachel *cue Interpol sounding a lot like a bearable version of Coldplay*.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 16 May 2003 19:56 (twenty-two years ago)

(Furthermore, I don't think it's THAT odd to show a group of white friends in NYC who hang out almost exclusively with white people, seeing as that's how most people are. I'd rather blast the show for not being funny, which is usually true but AISHA TAYLOR (YYGS)!!!)
