De Subjectivisten

Its got some cool sounding threads

De Toverberg uit Noorwegen of waarom komt de beste popmuziek momenteel uit Noorwegen?

thanks

Its cool to read even if I don't understand a damn word.

...even if I don't understand a damn word...

Ed -- that's A BIT debatable. (well, kind of). i've never known/studied the language, but even with an average command of English, i'd say, it's sometimes possible to get a fair idea of what's the writing about...
(to be honest, that impression of mine is based rather on staring at a few record-sleeve notes years ago than on any recent Subjectivisten study :-) )

t\'\'t (t\'\'t), Wednesday, 14 May 2003 20:51 (twenty-three years ago)

Ik heb tot nu toe maar alleen de engelstalige versie van ILX gelezen. Straks ga ik de Subjectivisten doorpluizen. Het is volgens mij veel leuker als je eerst je klompen aantrekt.

So do you have a fair idea of what I just said?

Maria D., Wednesday, 14 May 2003 22:25 (twenty-three years ago)

(okeh, i'll first re-check "fair" in my Eng.-Est. Dictionary then :-) hmm. "fair": ...3. "average", "quite good"; 4. "satisfactory"... yeh, yeh, i was fairly optimistic there, obviously - too much so, actually)

anyway, Maria D -- pondering over your three-sentence thesis-antithesis-synthesis passage - as it looks to me -
the first sentence seems to mention "having read only the English version of ILX" (though whether you say this just 'bout me or more ppl, i cannot understand);
your second sentence beats me (hands down, on keyboard);
the third sentence: "hence follows that"/or you "feel that" my "first/above statement" ..."is not right", basically??

...so here i sit found guilty, twice, it appears. firstly, the idea i manage to get of your little text is quite "poor" (rather than "fair").
secondly, knowing German would probably help much more than knowing English.

((however, those record-sleeve notes years ago that i stared at were, i think, on a couple of Flairck LP's. have you heard any music by them?))

t\'\'t (t\'\'t), Wednesday, 14 May 2003 23:10 (twenty-three years ago)

i think her last sentence is about drinking lots of leuker

jonas lefrel (jonas lefrel), Thursday, 15 May 2003 00:39 (twenty-three years ago)

Ik heb nooit FLairck elpees geluisterd. Klinken ze goed? Jonas heeft misschien ESP - ik had veel lager op (pale ale) toen ik de laatste zin schreef. Ik ben zelf niet nederlands, eigentlijk ben ik engelstalig. Excuses als nederlandtalige lezers dit lezen! Ik maak waarschijnlijk spelfouten.

'Klompen' are wooden shoes.

Maria D., Thursday, 15 May 2003 00:58 (twenty-three years ago)

(a'right. from what i remember, from nearly twenty years ago, Flairck sounded, erm, fairly "goed"- if that's the word - in a folkish-early-renaissance kinda way).

t\'\'t (t\'\'t), Thursday, 15 May 2003 01:17 (twenty-three years ago)

It's always been here.

When you check out the Subjectivisten threads, you actually see that t\'\'t is right - since most of the threads have band names in them or other recognisable terms, you can actually pretty much tell what they're writing about.

I was just playing with you, t\'\'t. I said "I've only ever read the English-language version of ILX. In a minute, I'll browse through the Subjectivisten threads. I think it's more fun to read if you first put on your wooden shoes."

I'm a Dutch-English translator by trade. Dutch is not my first language, though, so in a subsequent post I apologised to any Dutch-language readers for spelling/language errors. And I told Jonas I had been drinking beer.

The Subjectivisten do have some good threads though that might be fun to transplant here - like "what is worse: when a band you hate gets a great review OR when a band you love gets a terrible review"

I'll go see if I can kazaa me up some Flairck.

Maria D., Thursday, 15 May 2003 15:53 (twenty-three years ago)

dood luck with Flairck, Maria!

...änd yes, thät secönd põst öf yõürs üpthreäd wäs sömewhät mõre tränspärent thän the first õne :-)
