errrr

Ed (dali), Sunday, 25 May 2003 10:39 (twenty-two years ago)

There's one on ILM too.

one year passes...
A few weeks ago I was in the selection committee for the 2005 Swedish edition of this. It was a very surreal experience. I listened to app. 600 demos. Some discoveries:

* Swedish Eurovision is where electro clash still thrives, in a very cheesy way.
* There were way too few entries that featured OPERA.
* Everyone should sing in French, that would make it all so much better.

Judging Swedish Eurovision entries would be my dream job, although I doubt anyone will beat last year's filthfest.

three months pass...
At least you didn't have Jordan in a pink catsuit looking very pregnant and sounding very out of tune. Yes, it's that time of year again. And the UK is inflicting a reality TV loser for the third year in a row. I really wish it had been Jordan, to see what the rest of Europe made of her.

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 5 March 2005 20:48 (twenty-one years ago)

The rest of Europe takes a dim enough view of us as it is, without being represented by that.

Ferlin Husky (noodle vague), Saturday, 5 March 2005 20:51 (twenty-one years ago)

so I take it Javine 'won'? I wish it had been Jordan as well, for a) amusement value, and b) Javine deserves better. What is Jordan's song like, if it is not a totally redundant question?

The Lex (The Lex), Saturday, 5 March 2005 20:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Looking at Jordan, I kept thinking "Didn't Italy elect her to parliament in the early 90s?"

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Saturday, 5 March 2005 20:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Even Jeff Koons wouldn't marry Jordan.

Mind you...

Ferlin Husky (noodle vague), Saturday, 5 March 2005 21:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Jordan's song was actually OK, as Eurovision cheese goes, but extremely badly sung. Javine's wasn't much cop. The other three entries were equally rubbish. (Gina G, Lisa from Steps' brother singing a ballad written by Lee from Blue, and some sub-G4 popular operatic bollocks). I can't believe I watched this.

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 5 March 2005 21:09 (twenty-one years ago)

We seem to be trying very hard to not win Eurovision for the last few years.

Ferlin Husky (noodle vague), Saturday, 5 March 2005 21:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Poor Javine :(

The Lex (The Lex), Saturday, 5 March 2005 21:19 (twenty-one years ago)

I've actually quite liked the last couple of year's efforts. Trouble is, we're always too earnest. Then mad cavewomen and big scary Turkish ska blokes appear and we look like the total opposite of fun. We should put the Cheeky Girls or someone in. Or Jordan would have done, I guess.

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 5 March 2005 21:20 (twenty-one years ago)

especially as she would have been vv pregnant at the time of the contest!

The Lex (The Lex), Saturday, 5 March 2005 21:36 (twenty-one years ago)

She was looking quite considerably pregnant tonight, and was squeezed into a pink PVC catsuit. Terrible.

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 5 March 2005 21:40 (twenty-one years ago)

isn't there some medical thing about how one cannot fly when one is very pregnant? If Jordan had won we would have had to send her over to Kiev NOW in order to ensure that she could perform!

The Lex (The Lex), Saturday, 5 March 2005 21:51 (twenty-one years ago)

I would have thought the risk of her breast implants exploding mid-flight would have been worse.

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 5 March 2005 22:07 (twenty-one years ago)

I think that "medical thing" is prob'ly that Flight Attendants can't be arsed to be deliverin' no babies.

Ferlin Husky (noodle vague), Saturday, 5 March 2005 22:40 (twenty-one years ago)

"worse"

caitlin (caitlin), Saturday, 5 March 2005 22:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Javine's song is a pretty transparent attempt to do something in the style of "Wild Dances" (with more than a dash of "Toxic" as well). I predict a 6th place finish in Kiev.

I didn't watch the first programme, only the results and the BBC interactive bit. But on the basis of the snippets of the other songs I heard there, I think I liked the Gina G one the best.

Jeff W (zebedee), Sunday, 6 March 2005 14:08 (twenty-one years ago)

I think we are also all missing the furore over Javine's wardrobe malfunction. Nipples on the BBC at tea-time!

It's a pretty impressive boob, all things considered.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Monday, 7 March 2005 19:50 (twenty-one years ago)

I was thinking "she's totally gonna pop out", and she did. Does that make me psychic?

jel -- (jel), Monday, 7 March 2005 19:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Ooh, wait until you see and hear the Irish entry. You're all in for a treat!

Penelope_111 (Penelope_111), Monday, 7 March 2005 21:28 (twenty-one years ago)

The Irish are trying to lose even harder than the British. As the last few years' entries will attest.

Ferlin Husky (noodle vague), Tuesday, 8 March 2005 01:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Someones boob fell out in live Eurovision tv?? Wow!

Swedish finals were last weekend, and I am very disappointed. We're sending some pretty boy with a crap "showtune" and boring outfits. Alcazar should obviously have won, wtf. Or Bodies Without Organs but they were eliminated in the trials, double wtf!! Also, if I get to judge next year too I'll make damn sure to try and eliminate all the old has-been ladies who have taken over or precious event of Glory and Glamour.

Hanna (Hanna), Friday, 18 March 2005 14:07 (twenty-one years ago)

I DO NOT UNDERSTAND HOW HE CAN NOT BE GAY!

Hanna (Hanna), Friday, 18 March 2005 14:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Is that Martin Stenmarck? He's hilarious. But not as hilarious as the lady who sang "Redneck Woman"

Morley Timmons (Donna Brown), Friday, 18 March 2005 20:17 (twenty-one years ago)

three years pass...

Oh, I just posted this to ILM by mistake.

Graham Norton is the new Terry Wogan, says the BBC.
