nb. That's Fancy a Pint and Festival (Charlbury)

Further to the discussion about a week ago for a Fancy a pint Oxford FAPS - are you prepared to travel? here's the thread to discuss it.

I've e-mailed Rebecca, and she said she was thinking about going to the festival, so lets bug her, so she'd come!

So if we were to meet up on 21st June at Charlbury, when should we meet up, and should we all travel from Oxford together?

jellybean (jellybean), Monday, 9 June 2003 14:11 (twenty-two years ago)

how about meeting at Oxford Station on Saturday at lunchtime? 12.00 ok?

MarkH (MarkH), Monday, 9 June 2003 14:20 (twenty-two years ago)

or a little earlier...there's a train that leaves at 11.55 and gets into Charlbury at 12.11. Unbfortunately, thetrainline.com stopped playing when I tried to check the return journey....

MarkH (MarkH), Monday, 9 June 2003 14:25 (twenty-two years ago)

The festival website is here.

MarkH (MarkH), Monday, 9 June 2003 14:31 (twenty-two years ago)

use http://www.bahn.de or http://www.sbb.ch for checking train times, far more effective than any british site.

Ed (dali), Monday, 9 June 2003 14:33 (twenty-two years ago)

well the festival starts at 2 i think, and the first couple of bands on are shite...

jellybean (jellybean), Monday, 9 June 2003 14:41 (twenty-two years ago)

thanks for that Ed, v. handy. Last train back is at 21.58.

OK jellybean, there's a 13.55 as well. Arrives at 14.11. That sound good?

MarkH (MarkH), Monday, 9 June 2003 14:46 (twenty-two years ago)

erm, I'd love to go , but I just saw that stinking hippy on the front page of the website and I'm just too clean and fresh-smelling to go.

chris (chris), Monday, 9 June 2003 14:47 (twenty-two years ago)

you can do something abt that by the 21st June, shurely?

MarkH (MarkH), Monday, 9 June 2003 14:50 (twenty-two years ago)

the rock of Travolta - is this where music is today?

james (james), Monday, 9 June 2003 14:57 (twenty-two years ago)

oh come on, *surely* you want to be there in time for mr duck!!??!!

(nb: non-oxford people, i'm not actually just picking the silliest name on the list, i have actually seen this band and they are grebt, possibly.)

also when is truck and is anyone half decent playing?

also also how had i missed that the 21st was a saturday, arses, that means i won't get paid til the monday, so will be skinter than a skint thing...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 9 June 2003 15:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Noooo not Mr Duck.. I really can't stand watching them. they're playing Truck as well.

[plug]
Truck is the weekend of 19th -20th July, lots of great bands are playing, but I can't remember them off the top of my head except British Sea Power, Electric Eel Shock, Buck 65, all the Truck bands and the Butterflies of Love are coming over from the US just for the festival.. oh and currently in negotiations with a very exciting headliner, that if we get i'll be very excited indeed... the bands are on the truck site anyway http://www.truckrecords.com
[/plug]

and Carsmilesteve, you should come to Charlbury anyway, it's only the coach fare up to Oxford and then the train fare.. the booze is cheap.

jellybean (jellybean), Monday, 9 June 2003 16:17 (twenty-two years ago)

ooh Truck, yes I'd like to go, but getting back is IMPOSSIBLE coz Steventon has no station even tho it's on a railway line. Well, i say impossible...there are buses during the day I think, but the last one is at half five or something ridiculous. The one time I did go I ended up getting a taxi back to Oxford! And I had to go into the Village Hall to find a phone. There was a wedding reception going on and I was mistaken for a guest whilst waiting for the taxi to arrive and asked why i didn't come into the hall and have a dance. And the taxi cost twenty-five squid or something ridiculous and the taxi driver was most unimpressed with my story of just having seen a kid smoking the biggest spliff in the world.

BUT on the plus side I got to see Holy Roman Empire for the first time (this was 1999). With the singer with his felt-tip pen chest hair -oh yes!

But the Butterflies of Love!!! I love their album "The New Patient". i need to find someone WITH A CAR who's going.....

MarkH (MarkH), Monday, 9 June 2003 18:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Rats! I have a car, and also a huge Land Rover which (although slightly uncomfortable for long journeys) seats 13 so I could have been designated driver for you all but unfortunately I am in Wales that weekend for a wedding. (sorry)

C J (C J), Monday, 9 June 2003 18:11 (twenty-two years ago)

but what abt the FAP&F on the 21st? Are you around then?

MarkH (MarkH), Monday, 9 June 2003 18:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Come to Truck anyway. The last bus on the sunday is about an hour before the end of the festival, so you only end up missing a couple of bands or so.

jellybean (jellybean), Monday, 9 June 2003 18:17 (twenty-two years ago)

I must have read the thread too quickly Mark - I thought this festival and FAP *was* the weekend of the 21st June. That's when I'm away in Wales. I might be able to make a July one though!

C J (C J), Monday, 9 June 2003 18:17 (twenty-two years ago)

excellent! hope you can make the July one, CJ!

thanks jellybean, what time is that then (roughly)?

...anyone heard anything from Rebecca?

MarkH (MarkH), Monday, 9 June 2003 18:20 (twenty-two years ago)

can't remember.. i just remember missing the last band a couple of years ago, but the festival was running late at the time anyway. there's a bus timetable on www.stagecoach-oxford.co.uk it's the no. 32 i think.

As for Rebecca I e-mailed her a couple of days ago, she was a bit vague in her usual way. Anyway, I'll ask her again the next time i bump into her.

jellybean (jellybean), Monday, 9 June 2003 18:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Revive!

Charlbury is next weekend. Here are some useful train times from Oxford:
Oxford 13:53 arr Charlbury 14:11
Oxford 15:03 arr Charlbury 15:25

when should we meet then?

jellybean (jellybean), Saturday, 14 June 2003 12:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Sorry can't make it - I'm taking the train in the other direction next weekend - to Brighton! :-)

Marcello Carlin, Sunday, 15 June 2003 09:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Jellybean: how abt meeting on the concourse of Oxford station at 13.45?

I *did* buy a tickket for Truck in the end...it arrived thru the post this morning!

MarkH (MarkH), Monday, 16 June 2003 13:02 (twenty-two years ago)

ooh yay, then have a FAP part 2 in july.. except i won't remember that one..

1.45's fine.. Rebecca might be able to come, just need to do some more persuading

jellybean (jellybean), Tuesday, 17 June 2003 06:47 (twenty-two years ago)

excellent...see you at 1.45 on Saturday.

And as if that wasn't exciting enough, on the Friday evening, How Does It Feel to be Loved is coming to the Folly Bridge Inn!

MarkH (MarkH), Tuesday, 17 June 2003 07:18 (twenty-two years ago)

FAP&F Oxon is today! Yay!

HDIF was grebt btw. Never thought something like that would happen at my local! Someone said "it's a bit like a wedding reception" and I suppose it was in a way...starting at 7.30 and ending at pub closing time, with light streaming through the curtains for quite a bit of that time.
