This has probably been asked before in some form, but I've no idea how I'd find it.

So, we don't always get around to thanking people for pointing people in the direction of things we ended up loving.

Here's your chance to reiterate great recommendations, even if you can't remember who to thank.

N. (nickdastoor), Thursday, 19 June 2003 15:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Or alternatively reprimand people for wasting their time and money.

N. (nickdastoor), Thursday, 19 June 2003 15:51 (twenty-two years ago)

It's too long a list to thank folks, for many things. :-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 19 June 2003 15:53 (twenty-two years ago)

I picked up RJD2 because of hearing all about how great it was on ILM.
I like it okay.
Other than that, I'd say, thanks for the negative affect on my productivity.

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Thursday, 19 June 2003 15:56 (twenty-two years ago)

I'd like to thank Ned for giving me a chance to meet Ned.

martin m. (mushrush), Thursday, 19 June 2003 15:57 (twenty-two years ago)

There have been so many good recommendations that it's hard to pinpoint a specific one. Most of the good dance stuff I have been listening to is thanks to Siegbran, Mark S. has made some good book recs, Suzy and Ed are both fab for recipes/food info...but beyond that I just have such a hard time remembering! Probably almost everyone here has made one nice recommendation at one point or another.

Nicole (Nicole), Thursday, 19 June 2003 16:02 (twenty-two years ago)

90% of the music I listen to now

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Thursday, 19 June 2003 16:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Siegran for the dance music obv.

Other than that Mark S has recommended some good essays and things in the past, and the general hivemind turned me onto DFA etc god bless their souls.

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 19 June 2003 16:13 (twenty-two years ago)

New friends. And stuff recommendations. Thurber's "The Years With Ross" (thanks Martin), much Steve Erickson (thanks Martin again), ignition remix (thanks J0hn), and much Moomins (thanks you big bunch of twee fuckers)

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 19 June 2003 16:18 (twenty-two years ago)

JtN ownz! "Biblio-stalking".

Cozen (Cozen), Thursday, 19 June 2003 16:22 (twenty-two years ago)

JtN is great for book and movie recs too! I forgot this, so thanks to Cozen for jogging my memory.

I cried when I reached the chapter where JtN dies in "Harry Potter and the Order of the Pinefox".

Nicole (Nicole), Thursday, 19 June 2003 16:25 (twenty-two years ago)

I'M SUING YOUR ASS YOU BITCH.

J.K. Rowling (nickdastoor), Thursday, 19 June 2003 16:29 (twenty-two years ago)

I cried when J.K. Rowling turned out to be a real person.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 19 June 2003 16:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Shhh, Ned! She'll sue you too!

Nicole (Nicole), Thursday, 19 June 2003 16:57 (twenty-two years ago)

BRING IT ON.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 19 June 2003 17:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Murakami, first and foremost. Kate was the first person whose mention of Wind-Up Bird I saw, I think.

I think I listened to Sugababes because of ILM.

nabisco has made me reconsider my feelings on Buffy season 4, but shh, don't tell him.

And of course, I go to Hooters every day cause of Ally.

Tep (ktepi), Thursday, 19 June 2003 17:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Tep hosting In Search Of...Ally's Sister

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 19 June 2003 18:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Nicole (Nicole), Thursday, 19 June 2003 18:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Looks the ilx men are hoping this show will be on the Spice Channel.

And cough up cash for their pleasure? Doubt it.

anthony easton (anthony), Thursday, 19 June 2003 18:53 (twenty-two years ago)

many ILXORS have said things abt certain books that have made me pick it up so that has been a v big thing.

since I have my own outlook on music I get new ideas on music I already listen to. overall its really great to talk abt it with informed posters. so its more ideas rather than specific records.

Life choices: just haven't had the time to try those chat-up lines you know...

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Thursday, 19 June 2003 18:53 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't understand why kate is getting all the credit for Murakami - I thought she posted about him after reading on the basis of other people on ILE going on about him.

N. (nickdastoor), Thursday, 19 June 2003 20:40 (twenty-two years ago)

In my case, I saw the post because she mentioned it on an unrelated thread and I hadn't read whatever thread had inspired her to read it.

Tep (ktepi), Thursday, 19 June 2003 20:41 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't know what there is in a direct way - it's more that peoplehere make me pay more attention to and sample some things I might otherwise not have noticed. Also I am old and set in my ways, an old leopard can't learn new spots etc.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 19 June 2003 20:49 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't think I can pin down one thing - it's been oodles and oodles of recommendations and references and bantering and serious discussion and getting to interact with intelligent, funny, charming people. But, um, Judy Henske does make the list *grin*

I'm Passing Open Windows (Ms Laura), Friday, 20 June 2003 00:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Giving my Pet Shop Boys records another go- ILM, hearing Grant Morrison was writing an X-Men title, and that it was good, Martin S. Lightning Bolt's due largely to ILM in the end, too, through Ess.

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Friday, 20 June 2003 00:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Quite a few movies.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Friday, 20 June 2003 03:02 (twenty-two years ago)

i am a l4mZ0r and know nothing about hip hop AT ALL, but I've listened to 'Thug Love' by L'il Kim and Twista 10x today and I have trife to thank for that. (I got an illy aim, stick 'em up, steal his chain, then I spill his brain, then I feel
his pain; some of the consequences when you dealin with a plug thug)

Aaron A., Friday, 20 June 2003 03:22 (twenty-two years ago)

*gets maudlin* I'm grateful for ILX in its entirety for, well, basically everything.

Chris Barrus (Chris Barrus), Friday, 20 June 2003 03:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Getting rid of my indie snobbery, or most of it. Oh, and The Streets. fun!

daria g (daria g), Friday, 20 June 2003 04:26 (twenty-two years ago)

I'd like to echo Tep's post: Thank you ILX for Murakami and that post of Nabisco's made me feel a lot better about liking Buffy in a world of Buffy muggles. Oh and thank you to stevem for 'Tomorrow's Wor-ee-urld! Science show presented by Avril Lavigne' - this still cracks me up.

Alfie (Alfie), Friday, 20 June 2003 07:05 (twenty-two years ago)

And actually I want to specifically Kirsten for recommending Songs From The Second Floor

Chris Barrus (Chris Barrus), Friday, 20 June 2003 07:16 (twenty-two years ago)

"speficially thank" that is (damn late night posting dyslexia)

Chris Barrus (Chris Barrus), Friday, 20 June 2003 07:17 (twenty-two years ago)

? you were right the first time.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 20 June 2003 08:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Mark S and Ellie (whither?) for I May Be Some Time

Absurd numbers of great tunes from download request threads.

All of you for making me feel proud that something I started has led (indirectly) to so much goodness (and some badness too).
