NYC: Anyone Got Room for An ILX Traveller To Crash? (July 4 FAP)

Message Bookmarked

Two weeks til the 4th July FAP, and I'll need a place to crash, again. A fellow ILX poster gave me room in his place. However, he's had a stroke of great luck (working for the summer). So, he won't be around. I'm lookin' again.

I realise tis late to ask, but there is no harm in that;>

I'll be in town the 3rd to the 8th.

Any good and giving souls, let me know?

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Thursday, 19 June 2003 22:52 (twenty-two years ago)

I might as well add my name to this one, since I'm in the same boat as Nick! But rah indeed for Mr. Stence the kind feller, who deserved something cool. :-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 19 June 2003 23:02 (twenty-two years ago)

stence you cad!

James Blount (James Blount), Thursday, 19 June 2003 23:02 (twenty-two years ago)

But rah indeed for Mr. Stence the kind feller, who deserved something cool. :-)

Indeed he does! If the fates are kind, he better get it, too;>

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Thursday, 19 June 2003 23:45 (twenty-two years ago)

I may regret saying this, and I need to check with aaron first but you (nichole and ned) are more than welcome to stay with us (see what I did there, if it turns out to be NO, it will be blamed on aaron). All I can say though is that it's a huge space and we will be renovating (painting, trying to make the bathroom less sketchy, bring your shower shoes!) But e-mail me. So far Anthony Miccio and Bryan may be staying with us then too, but there will definitely be space if they do stay, since it's 3 bedrooms and 1500 sq. feet and we do not have a third roommate yet. Plus Ned you can talk to Franz about astronomy.

Carey (Carey), Friday, 20 June 2003 01:17 (twenty-two years ago)

I WILL be staying, gosh darnit. Carey ain't the only person who needs to get her ass out of State College, PA.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Friday, 20 June 2003 01:20 (twenty-two years ago)

(though my ass only needs to leave for a little while, while Carey's never wants to sit down here again)

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Friday, 20 June 2003 01:21 (twenty-two years ago)

yo peeps I find out today, so I'll let you know either way. If'n it falls through (fingers crossed it doesn't), you'll still be able to stay here. Actually, y'all might be able to stay here regardless (depending on d!90).

hstencil, Friday, 20 June 2003 12:55 (twenty-two years ago)

You're going to roll a dice? That's cold, man.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 20 June 2003 13:07 (twenty-two years ago)

dude my roommate is the diceman, the donuts, the baddest brody in town. And he kinda knows Ned, so maybe he'll want him around.

(that kinda sounds like a Thin Lizzy lyric, no?)

hstencil, Friday, 20 June 2003 13:09 (twenty-two years ago)

wow good luck stence!

teeny (teeny), Friday, 20 June 2003 13:14 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm coming. Vacation time is booked. Just gotta get an oil change and some new socks. I'll be bringing a healthy supply of weird Canadian potato chips. Just let me know what I can bring, Carey (i.e. torches, soldering gun, toilet brush).

Bryan (Bryan), Friday, 20 June 2003 13:18 (twenty-two years ago)

BRINGS BEARS AND COOKIES.

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 20 June 2003 13:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Cookie bears!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 20 June 2003 13:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Ok. Someone make a list. Any other Canadians going?

Bryan (Bryan), Friday, 20 June 2003 13:42 (twenty-two years ago)

well if I don't end up spending at least a week in Western Canada (as is the plan), Bryan you better bring me some everything-flavored Ruffles yo.

hstencil, Friday, 20 June 2003 13:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Consider it done.

Bryan (Bryan), Friday, 20 June 2003 13:43 (twenty-two years ago)

List:
Bears
Cookies
Blow torch
Pasties
Drag queen shoes

That should cover everything, Bryan.

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 20 June 2003 13:45 (twenty-two years ago)

What about everything-flavored Ruffles? That is U&K!

hstencil, Friday, 20 June 2003 13:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Honestly I'm not a fan of potato chips, but I'll put it on the list for you. I apologize for the oversight.

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 20 June 2003 13:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Thanks Ally, you're the best. If I end up going to Canada too, well hopefully I'll bring at least one bear back for ya (if he fits in the van).

hstencil, Friday, 20 June 2003 13:59 (twenty-two years ago)

I was just about to say that I don't like potato chips. But yeah house party all week long. I am not working that week, so I will be around stressing about shelves and water based polyurethane and buffing. And shopping and tequila of course.

Carey (Carey), Friday, 20 June 2003 14:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Get like a sun bear, stence, I heard they're pretty small.

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 20 June 2003 14:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, the chips are mostly for rosemary if hstencil won't be around. Do you guys have access to a car, Carey? I will take you guys to get stuff if you don't (if you like).

Bryan (Bryan), Friday, 20 June 2003 14:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Hey hey, I forgot you're bringing a car, do you wanna go to the outlet mall in Riverhead and watch me shop?

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 20 June 2003 15:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Yup. I'll probably need clean underwear so a shopping trip is U & K.

Bryan (Bryan), Friday, 20 June 2003 15:02 (twenty-two years ago)

we will have my trusty toyota corolla which i have had since I was 16. But don't worry Bryan, I will find a way for you to do my bidding.

Carey (Carey), Friday, 20 June 2003 15:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Plus you will have to stay in a room with Anthony Miccio, isn't that enough man.

Carey (Carey), Friday, 20 June 2003 15:06 (twenty-two years ago)

So how many people are actually staying in this flat?

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 20 June 2003 15:07 (twenty-two years ago)

23, plus a truckload of migrant farmers that got in touch with me late last night.

Carey (Carey), Friday, 20 June 2003 15:09 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm very excited about doing your bidding, Carey. I'll be starting my anti-gas diet today, Anthony, so no worries!

Bryan (Bryan), Friday, 20 June 2003 15:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Plus you will have to stay in a room with Anthony Miccio, isn't that enough man.

I suppose it all depends on whether an Anthony Miccio is enough man on the sliding scale of things.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 20 June 2003 15:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Of Miccio and Men.

hstencil, Friday, 20 June 2003 15:29 (twenty-two years ago)

"Tell me about Limp Bizkit again, George."

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 20 June 2003 15:30 (twenty-two years ago)

hhahahahahaha. I would feel bad for making fun, but then I remember Miccio's Bizkit fetish, and I suddenly don't feel so bad!

hstencil, Friday, 20 June 2003 15:39 (twenty-two years ago)

if i come and get a hotel room you are all invited to stay with me

chaki (chaki), Friday, 20 June 2003 15:45 (twenty-two years ago)

The CHAKI is going to this? I am pleased beyond belief! :-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 20 June 2003 15:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Whoa. Chaki, for serious?

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 20 June 2003 15:56 (twenty-two years ago)

I still haven't met the man properly but all the tales I've heard from those who have indicate that he will live large beyond description.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 20 June 2003 16:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Ned, I didn't ask for a review of Chaki, I asked if he was serious about coming. Now step off and stop hitting on him!

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 20 June 2003 16:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Nobody hits on Chaki. He hits the world and taps its ass.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 20 June 2003 16:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, that's his slogan for his presidential run.

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 20 June 2003 16:04 (twenty-two years ago)

CHAKI 2004 -- "MAKING THE WORLD SAFE FOR ASS-TAPPING."

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 20 June 2003 16:06 (twenty-two years ago)

THAT'S QUITE ENOUGH RAGGETT.

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 20 June 2003 16:11 (twenty-two years ago)

You act like you don't want to be distracted on a boring Friday waiting for the weekend to start!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 20 June 2003 16:13 (twenty-two years ago)

SIGH!

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 20 June 2003 16:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Ally's patience with me, somehow = proof that she is my friend. :-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 20 June 2003 16:23 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm really not demonstrating any patience at all, though, unless you mean "patience compared to her normal behavior".

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 20 June 2003 16:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, yes.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 20 June 2003 16:28 (twenty-two years ago)

OOH YOU BITCH!

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 20 June 2003 16:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Can you take the Monday off Chris (or will you be done by then?)? I will be going north on the 7th and could drop you off.

Bryan (Bryan), Monday, 23 June 2003 17:10 (twenty-two years ago)

I guess you'll be wanting to go back on the 5th, though.

Bryan (Bryan), Monday, 23 June 2003 17:11 (twenty-two years ago)

I have no problems with toilets in general, I've used the ones in GCS and the damn tourist center in Time Square. Although, none of them move....

Chris V. (Chris V), Monday, 23 June 2003 17:14 (twenty-two years ago)

I'd most likely want to come home on the 6th. Im not worried about getting there at all. I really want to come and seeing as the wife is working on the 4th and 5th, I could do it. Oh god this could get ugly.

Chris V. (Chris V), Monday, 23 June 2003 17:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Moving toilets=nightmare, I imagine. I'd rather not go for 3 hours than go in a train or bus.

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 23 June 2003 17:16 (twenty-two years ago)

according to this schedule i could arrive between 12:30 and 4:30, what would be best?

Chris V. (Chris V), Monday, 23 June 2003 17:19 (twenty-two years ago)

If you don't mind getting home on the evening of the 6th I could probably get you home ok (and I'll probably need plenty of bathroom breaks too). I'll line the inside of the car with plastic before we depart just in case.

Bryan (Bryan), Monday, 23 June 2003 17:20 (twenty-two years ago)

i checked the train as well, and it takes 6 hours rather than 4. I think I might make this happen. Yeah Bryan its a possibility, but its technically so out of the way for you to go. I don't mind the bus, they just better not mind my stink.

Chris V. (Chris V), Monday, 23 June 2003 17:21 (twenty-two years ago)

I really have to stop reading this.

luna (luna.c), Monday, 23 June 2003 17:22 (twenty-two years ago)

am i making you sick?

Chris V. (Chris V), Monday, 23 June 2003 17:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Nope, but I want to come play, too, and I can't.

luna (luna.c), Monday, 23 June 2003 17:25 (twenty-two years ago)

It wouldn't be out of the way, Chris! I'm driving to Toronto after the FAP and it would be more fun I'm guessing to have someone in the car even if their ass stinx.

Bryan (Bryan), Monday, 23 June 2003 17:25 (twenty-two years ago)

oh man, NYC to Worcester to Toronto. Let me see what I can work out here.....

Chris V. (Chris V), Monday, 23 June 2003 17:27 (twenty-two years ago)

I love how you guys are planning for the hangover! RAWK.

teeny (teeny), Monday, 23 June 2003 17:51 (twenty-two years ago)

I still might go to Toronto, Bryan, if I get off work and find some magical leprechaun offering me money. I'll keep you posted but take extra plastic in case I come real drunk.

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 23 June 2003 19:14 (twenty-two years ago)

That's great Ally! I keep a big spool of poly in the trunk at all times.

Bryan (Bryan), Monday, 23 June 2003 19:24 (twenty-two years ago)

I'd have to be back in NYC on the 9th. How expensive do you think it'll be to get back from there? Would it be cheaper in Canada? Will my American dollars impress anyone? Will it be like the Great Escape?

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 23 June 2003 19:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Traveling itself will cost you nothing. We wipe our bums with American money (you can spend it anywhere, though). It will be the Great Escape.

Bryan (Bryan), Monday, 23 June 2003 19:30 (twenty-two years ago)

How will travelling cost nothing, surely you are not returning to New York afterwards.

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 23 June 2003 19:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Nope, but I want to come play, too, and I can't.

Believe me, Luna, except for the help of a great friend, I'd be in the same spot you are.

Too bad we won't get to tear up NY together, though.

However, Carey has graciously offered me room, and I'm happy....

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Monday, 23 June 2003 21:07 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm leaving this Saturday! Yikes! Okay, seriously, not to invite myself or anything, but can I stay with someone or share a hotel? I can get you into an invitation-only Third Eye Blind concert on July first if you want.

teeny (teeny), Monday, 23 June 2003 21:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Don't all jump at once now!

teeny (teeny), Monday, 23 June 2003 21:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Actually, fuck my hatin'; that should be great celebrity-watching.

teeny (teeny), Monday, 23 June 2003 21:51 (twenty-two years ago)

of course you're all in new york and used to that sort of thing. Resume hatin'.

teeny (teeny), Monday, 23 June 2003 21:52 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm coming in on the 3rd, otherwise I'd want to go to that (the show they did here in town sold out in minutes).

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Monday, 23 June 2003 21:52 (twenty-two years ago)

a friend is a big 3EB nut, so I'd love the opportunity to get Stephan Jenkins anecdotes.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Monday, 23 June 2003 21:52 (twenty-two years ago)

will do. actually I really dig their new single too.

teeny (teeny), Monday, 23 June 2003 22:12 (twenty-two years ago)

So, yeah, I'm coming over on the 4th and leaving on the 12th. I definitely have a few places for the 5th onwards, but since I get in at like 7pm on the 4th, I'll probably just drag my bags to the FAP. So somewhere to kip that night would be nice, but not absolutely essential (I can always ring my friend at 3.00/whatever :(

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 24 June 2003 14:29 (twenty-two years ago)

(this announcement for those of you that bailed out of How do I make Irish Cream? when it started being about blowing Ronan)

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 24 June 2003 14:30 (twenty-two years ago)

(fifth post down, form an orderly line)

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 24 June 2003 14:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Hey Andrew, that's great that you're coming!

Bryan (Bryan), Tuesday, 24 June 2003 20:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Andrew, if you think you're going home at 3am, you're like strangely mistaken, unless you meant 3 the next day???

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 24 June 2003 20:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Apparently, I'm going to get brain overload from trying to meet everyone. However, I'm looking forward to it.

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Tuesday, 24 June 2003 20:07 (twenty-two years ago)

I'll be staying at the same place as you, Nichole, but feel free to ignore me if it saves some effort. ;)

Bryan (Bryan), Tuesday, 24 June 2003 20:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Bryan, I don't mind the effort. Besides, I can memorise mucho names/faces in a concentrated space.

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Tuesday, 24 June 2003 20:19 (twenty-two years ago)

We can make it easier. See this?

http://www.maths.tcd.ie/~afarrell/pics/74.jpg

I look nothing like this anymore.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 24 June 2003 20:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, that narrows it down;> (Course, I don't have any handy pics of myself to post, so you all will just have to wait.)

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Tuesday, 24 June 2003 21:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Rah for Andrew and his imminent appearance! :-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 24 June 2003 21:35 (twenty-two years ago)

here's a recent pic of me
http://i.imdb.com/Photos/Events/1443/SeannWilli_Caulf_483560_400.jpg

Millar (Millar), Tuesday, 24 June 2003 21:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Millar, Seann William Scott is your twin? Who knew;>?

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Tuesday, 24 June 2003 21:51 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah, I never wear a watch - dead giveaway, huh? damn.

Millar (Millar), Tuesday, 24 June 2003 21:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Hey Millar, is your offer of a ride to/from NYC still good?

(And ladies, rest assured that Millar is indeed a hottie.)

j.lu (j.lu), Tuesday, 24 June 2003 22:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Im not booking my ticket until i have a place to crash and so far i have no takers. oh well. i can sleep in the gutter.

Chris V. (Chris V), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

I said I was up for a hotel share!

teeny (teeny), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 00:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Okay so I'm looking up hostels and such...does anyone have any recommendations/guidance?

Here's a supercheapie:
http://www.youthcastle.com/

This one looks nice too:
http://www.chelseacenterhostel.com/

This one is slightly more expensive:
http://newyorkhostels.com/home.html

teeny (teeny), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 13:31 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't know about hostels, but I would recommned cheap hotels, like the Howard Johnson on East Houston St. for instance. Off_Soho Suites on Rivington St. is also cheap if you are gett ing a bunch of people together.

Mary (Mary), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 22:56 (twenty-two years ago)

j.lu - yes. email me yr cell number.

tee em eye el el ay ar AT see oh dee ee tee ay en kei dot org

in fact if anybody would like for me to be able to get in touch with them at all once we are all in town they should consider emailing me a phone number as well.

Millar (Millar), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 23:07 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm staying at the Habitat (130 E. 57TH ST. - New York, NY, US 10022, (212) 753-8841, http://www.habitatny.com). I've also stayed at the the Pioneer Hotel in Chinatown (341 BROOME STREET - New York, NY, US 10013, (212) 226-14820); it's about the same price.

j.lu (j.lu), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 23:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Millar and I are staying at the Pioneer Hotel. Rooms were $80-something a night and I think there's still rooms available.

And also, if you want to exchange cell phone numbers - drop me an email.

Chris Barrus (Chris Barrus), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 23:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Thanks for the suggestions! The b/f is dead set against me doing the hostelling thing and may pay for my hotel as a birthday present so maybe I'll land with you guys at the Pioneer. I fly out on Saturday and I'm there through July 7 so if anyone is interested in a share please speak up!
