OMG

Millar (Millar), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 01:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh yeah, I've been looking forward to this. Is it starting soon?

teeny (teeny), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 01:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Millar you should totally try to be on this show.

teeny (teeny), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 01:21 (twenty-two years ago)

But I already have a macintosh

Millar (Millar), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 01:24 (twenty-two years ago)

But you need the Clay Aiken hairdo! You know you want to...

Nicole (Nicole), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 01:25 (twenty-two years ago)

but do you have a mackintosh? a nice burberry plaid one?

teeny (teeny), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 01:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Is it hosted by this guy? oh goodie

donut bitch (donut), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 01:54 (twenty-two years ago)

gay people talk like THIS

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Wednesday, 2 July 2003 01:58 (twenty-two years ago)

That's brilliant. I am dying to be on. I knew there was a reason I don't like pleats... instincts.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 02:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Seriously though, how is this any different from this? Positive stereotypes are still stereotypes, etc.

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Wednesday, 2 July 2003 02:03 (twenty-two years ago)

(on another note, I can't stop laughing at "complete with that 'new man' smell")

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Wednesday, 2 July 2003 02:05 (twenty-two years ago)

I like fashion, I like makeover shows, and I like people who are comfortable in their own skin. These gay men couldn't possibly be more camp than Joan Rivers.

teeny (teeny), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 02:05 (twenty-two years ago)

donut bitch wins

Millar (Millar), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 02:07 (twenty-two years ago)

I saw a preview of this -- they make over this burly bearded guy. But they only had him trim the beard, they did not make him remove it! I seethed over the injustice of it all.

Nicole (Nicole), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 02:09 (twenty-two years ago)

that is so gay

JasonD (JasonD), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 02:14 (twenty-two years ago)

two weeks pass...
Hey, who watched this! I'm partway through it on tivo right now. The opening credits are really priceless. Good production values.

teeny (teeny), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 16:16 (twenty-two years ago)

The ladies at my work were all talking about it this morning. They loved it. Which means I would hate it.

NA. (Nick A.), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 16:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Straight men are SO SLOPPY. TEEHEE

donut bitch (donut), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 16:22 (twenty-two years ago)

[insert living-in-Seattle joke here]

M Matos (M Matos), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 16:29 (twenty-two years ago)

OK, I actually watched this cos my mom begged me to watch that and Cupid because apparently I "am totally Laura" whatever the fuck that means (I couldn't figure out who Laura was but I wasn't paying attention much). It was ridiculous. I mean, the whole scene about working the product in from the back just pissed me off.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 16:39 (twenty-two years ago)

I tuned in last night, totally prepared for this to suck, but I ended up laughing my head off: the straight male has to be secure as hell to allow a stranger to hug all over you. [The episode with "Butch" the artist was priceless: Carson (the blond guy) was thisclose to copping a feel.]

Now, if they could rerun the episodes I miss on the weekend, that's good with a bag of crisps.

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 17:35 (twenty-two years ago)

they rerun it all the time. Here's the schedule:
http://www.bravotv.com/Schedule/search.bravo?keyword=Queer%20Eye

Also, how about this? I heard something about how the main guy in the show is now saying that is was horrible and mean or something like that.
http://www.bravotv.com/Boy_Meets_Boy/

teeny (teeny), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 17:40 (twenty-two years ago)

I think I'm going to see where to apply. I need a makeover. The jeans+workshirt+Docs-or-Chuck Taylors look just isn't doing it anymore.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 17:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Does anyone else remember this?

Prude (Prude), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 17:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Note to self: more sassy, less curmudgeon.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 19:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Watched the first episode (subject: "Butch" the painter) last night. Seems like a hodge-podgey hybrid of "What Not to Wear," "Changing Rooms" and the like....only cattier. It seemed a bit rushed, but still damn funny. Carson the Fashion Queen is easily the most entertaining (and invariably the star-elect of the show). Couldn't stay awake for the second one (the living room with all the lawn toys in it). The theme of the show should be "Gay Bar" by the Electric Six.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 19:54 (twenty-two years ago)

I really love this show. The b/f loves it too, it's the funniest thing. I'm a little afraid it's giving him image issues ("Should I be waxing my eyebrows?")

teeny (teeny), Monday, 21 July 2003 14:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, I actually watched this the other night when I was really fucking tired from a day of water park excursions and it was better than expected. Pretty funny, and the guy did end up looking considerably better (it was the Butch artis guy episode).

NA the Billion Dollar Hobo (Nick A.), Monday, 21 July 2003 14:54 (twenty-two years ago)

The funny thing about Butch is they just made him look like every other style-conscious NYC guy, whereas pre-makeover he looked different and interesting. He did clean up pretty good though.

teeny (teeny), Monday, 21 July 2003 15:01 (twenty-two years ago)

I loved how his Yanni-esque long dark-haired friend was freaking out that he would be forced to lose his long luxurious lockes too!

Sarah McLUsky (coco), Monday, 21 July 2003 15:11 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah WTF was up with his peer group; they were like a pack of Jesuses roaming the streets of Manhattan.

teeny (teeny), Monday, 21 July 2003 15:15 (twenty-two years ago)

!!! Teeny's image is a beautiful thing.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 21 July 2003 15:33 (twenty-two years ago)

one month passes...
And actually, given the last line in this story, maybe Teeny was strangely prescient.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 18:51 (twenty-two years ago)

hurrah! That's a nice story too.

teeny (teeny), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 18:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Kressley admits he couldn't have imagined "in 2 million years" that the show would strike the cultural nerve that it has. "It's happened because we have no political agenda. We're all just about having a good time and making people feel better about themselves ... I'm also pretty amazed at how much we're able to get away with on this show. An awful lot gets left in. And I have the restraining orders to prove it."

May I say how much I adore this guy? Thankyouvery much:>

Since QE debuted on Bravo, I've been glued to my set every Tuesday night. Imagine gay guys that actually have fashion sense;>

Teeny: If you thought Butch was funny, just wait til they show you the Staten Island cop with the hot model girlfriend(!) that has to be taught to show her a good time....

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 19:02 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah WTF was up with his peer group; they were like a pack of Jesuses roaming the streets of Manhattan.

True, but when was the last time you saw Jesus clad in Prada?

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 19:04 (twenty-two years ago)

apparently my college friend Josh Diaz will be on tonight's episode.

hstencil, Tuesday, 2 September 2003 19:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh Nichole, I totally have every episode! I've been looking forward to hstencil's friend as well. Although last week with the fabio guy and his greek momma, that'll be so hard to beat. "I fell like I made five new friends today." Awwww.

teeny (teeny), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 19:07 (twenty-two years ago)

TELL me about it! I so wanted to hug him---even though he could have easily crushed me

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 19:09 (twenty-two years ago)

the funny thing is Josh isn't nearly as much of a slob now as he was in college. If the show was on back then, they would've needed like a three-parter episode just to clean his room.

hstencil, Tuesday, 2 September 2003 19:09 (twenty-two years ago)

(did you see the QE males on the VMA's (MTV) last week? Pauvre Jimmy Fallon---though he well fit in.)

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 19:11 (twenty-two years ago)

i hate this show and i've never even seen it! it just sounds like a bunch of "Boys in the Band" stereotypes, no?? one's a hairdresser and another one's an interior design expert, etc. gay guys as cute little pets/servants/culture know-it-alls. we've come a long way, baby!

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 19:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Tracer, to me, this show plays with the stereotypes: "Sure I know the part I'm playing, but I do it with a bit of a wink." Who better to poke fun at you, than you?

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 19:26 (twenty-two years ago)

sorry, wrong thread - racist/sexist/whatever jokes told "ironically"

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 19:28 (twenty-two years ago)

It's less about any supposed gayness than it is about fetishising consumer culture. I'm all about that. Girlfriend.

teeny (teeny), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 19:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Sure I know the part I'm playing, but I do it with a bit of a wink.

just is not good enough. Tracer is OTM - just about every gay guy i know falls into the category Tracer suggests and to add inslut to injury they talk/ dress/think the same. listen to the same Music etc. it's depressing. Maybe i just dont know the right ones but i have LOOKED HARD for a long time.

jed_e_3 (jed_e_3), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 19:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Tracer, what do you mean "we?"

hstencil, Tuesday, 2 September 2003 19:34 (twenty-two years ago)

yes, i know you're not gay, hstencil, i mean just look at your shoes!

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 19:37 (twenty-two years ago)

bbbut I'm wearing flip flops!

hstencil, Tuesday, 2 September 2003 19:38 (twenty-two years ago)

just about every gay guy i know falls into the category Tracer suggests and to add inslut to injury they talk/ dress/think the same. listen to the same

I respect your opinion (and your Freudian slip), but how can you assume every gay guy acts the same---unless you surveyed the entire nation?

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 19:39 (twenty-two years ago)

i dont know if i can sustain this much crying for a whole season

i dont know if i can sustain this much crying for a whole season

right? this japan collection is the best so far imo

times 牛肉麵 (Autumn Almanac), Sunday, 3 November 2019 05:53 (five years ago)

I didn't know there were so few episodes and blew it all on the first night.

I loved it so much.

(I also felt it was off that the translators never appeared but the editing seemed smooth enough).

Yerac, Sunday, 3 November 2019 13:21 (five years ago)

isn’t it great? the cutting is so seamless that it really feels like they all just understood one another.

times 牛肉麵 (Autumn Almanac), Sunday, 3 November 2019 20:01 (five years ago)

antoni is like dream yaoi in some episodes.

Yerac, Sunday, 3 November 2019 20:10 (five years ago)

When it's at its best this show really does make you want to be a better person.

Heavy Messages (jed_), Monday, 4 November 2019 01:21 (five years ago)

Does that sound naff?

Heavy Messages (jed_), Monday, 4 November 2019 01:26 (five years ago)

nope

Squeaky Fromage (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 4 November 2019 01:54 (five years ago)

doesn’t sound naff at all. they really do help bring out the best in people in subtle ways, rather than going berserk with mega transformations that hide the real person. as a viewer, it feels possible for us to improve with similar small changes, which makes the whole shebang relatable.

times 牛肉麵 (Autumn Almanac), Monday, 4 November 2019 09:51 (five years ago)

They introduced the translator at the end of episode one and she's not been on screen again, which is a bit of a shame because she looked cute and fun. Since she's in the room I'd like her to be onscreen. Not all of the time but included. Maybe that's a minor niggle.

― Heavy Messages (jed_), Sunday, 3 November 2019 02:56 (yesterday) bookmarkflaglink

yeah she seemed much cooler than the fairly irritating japanese host, who is the only downside thus far (n.b. japan has some of the best reality hosts in tv history, viz. torichan, becky etc)

imago, Tuesday, 5 November 2019 00:02 (five years ago)

I was thinking it was a shame they didn't get one of the panelists from Terrace House to really up the netflix synergy.

Yerac, Tuesday, 5 November 2019 00:07 (five years ago)

god there were some moments in this mini season thingy. basically the whole yoko ep obv, but for whatever reason the bit where makoto was sobbing in karamo's arms had me weeping

ت (jim in vancouver), Tuesday, 5 November 2019 00:08 (five years ago)

same.

Heavy Messages (jed_), Tuesday, 5 November 2019 00:09 (five years ago)

what a horrible life those two were living in that hellish apartment though. i hope it works out for them but i have my doubts.

man the Kan episode broke me

A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Thursday, 7 November 2019 20:49 (five years ago)

I thought the Makoto episode was going to go in all sorts of different directions. Really hope it works out for them. All four episodes were good, I thought.

michaellambert, Tuesday, 12 November 2019 23:11 (five years ago)

I was just thinking about this while watching Kae's episode. When Tan talked about showing off her body more, I worried that he was going to put her in something figure-hugging, but no. Still pretty baggy and loose, but just more stylish than she wore before. It was a really sympathetic makeover.

trishyb, Wednesday, 13 November 2019 14:25 (five years ago)

yeah, it seems (at least on the whole) that they enhance people rather than change them.

times 牛肉麵 (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 14 November 2019 01:15 (five years ago)

I rewatched the episode with Tammye from the church in the town of Gay (lol) because I was introducing my mum to QE and it just broke me again. She does a little speech at the end about them all, one by one, and it is just overwhelming. Antoni is a wreck during it. It's definitely worth a rewatch if you haven't seen it for a while.

Heavy Messages (jed_), Thursday, 14 November 2019 01:47 (five years ago)

although there are some funny moments in that episode like where Antoni says that usually he teaches people to cook but he'd like tammye to cook for him. oh yeah? don't get me wrong, I adore him and find him indispensable but it will never stop being funny that he's doing the cooking lessons.

Heavy Messages (jed_), Thursday, 14 November 2019 01:54 (five years ago)

Think they'd ever do follow-ups on people? I found the Kitchen Nightmare episodes where they checked back on restaurants really interesting. Some ppl really took the advice to heart and ran with it, some thought it was bullshit and they knew better than Gordon, some wanted to make the changes but just couldn't for various reasons.

A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Thursday, 14 November 2019 05:57 (five years ago)

two weeks pass...

what a horrible life those two were living in that hellish apartment though. i hope it works out for them but i have my doubts.

I felt this way by the end of the episode. It seemed like they were giving each other assurances of love because they knew that was what was expected of them by the end of the programme, but in fact they didn't seem any closer than before. Of course, this could be me misinterpreting Japanese body language.

trishyb, Sunday, 1 December 2019 13:24 (five years ago)

I had my doubts too but happy to report that they appear to be doing well - Makoto even put out a new EP that his wife sings on: https://www.bustle.com/p/makoto-yasuko-from-queer-eye-are-still-together-theyre-making-new-music-19291424

Love the way his instagram went from sad drawings of him visiting onsens by himself to much happier art + so many new photos of Yasuko: https://www.instagram.com/chibamakoto/

The Fab Five are literal angels at this point.

Roz, Sunday, 1 December 2019 14:02 (five years ago)

Oh, hooray! I am so happy to see that.

new season June 5

A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Monday, 18 May 2020 22:06 (five years ago)

one year passes...

First episode of the new season was pretty odd. It seemed to me that the person they were trying to help had some serious chemical issues going on in her head. She clearly did some cleaning up of her life in-between the visit from the fab five and the follow-up. Maybe there are medical privacy issues that prevented them from discussing some of what happened?

DJI, Sunday, 2 January 2022 17:24 (three years ago)

they did seem to cut something during the daughter's talk w kuramo that felt important/like it would've given clearer context

I don't think I've ever seen someone who looks more like a 'Terri', like if I was asked to give an association for that name it would be p much her

I loved her collection of horse prints in the hallway, should've kept those in the redesign

Wonder where all her trinkets are now. there was a lot of stuff!

salsa shark, Tuesday, 4 January 2022 03:27 (three years ago)

i loved that karamo seemed to have really helped start mending things btw thr daughter & terri

and that terri went w her natural hair was kind of huge <3

terminators of endearment (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 4 January 2022 04:31 (three years ago)

me too, and I liked that even though Antonio seemingly did nothing but watch ppl bake she felt so validated by that. cake looked good, would eat

salsa shark, Tuesday, 4 January 2022 08:48 (three years ago)

Antoni! dumb autocorrect

salsa shark, Tuesday, 4 January 2022 08:52 (three years ago)

Fair play to them, though, that they saw that the validation was more important than a cooking lesson.
I absolutely hated that horsehoe arch they put in, though. All I could see was people trying not to bang their elbows off it. What an awkward feature to put into someone's house.

trishyb, Tuesday, 4 January 2022 10:14 (three years ago)

i thought the Ranger guy episode was just ok - seemed pretty clear she nominated him as marketing for the ranch more than anything

but i did see a comment “East Texas Nick Miller” which made me lol and is very otm

the whole shipping container over the feed storage setup was fucking crazy O_o

terminators of endearment (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 5 January 2022 17:53 (three years ago)

I agree that the Ranger episode seemed like a setup. Again, it seemed like there was some backstory missing. He mumbled out something about "looking at other women," but why were they together in the first place if he was such a hot mess? I don't love the idea of "let's fix this guy so he can get a girl back" for this show.

The trans powerlifter woman was a lovely person. Talk about leaning into every trans panic fear, though!

DJI, Wednesday, 5 January 2022 18:25 (three years ago)

i loved that episode - Angel is very aptly named <3

sidebar only slightly related: my sister in law used to powerlift & loved it. after a year or two of lifting she had to go to the chiropractor for something. he asked her to push against him with her feet as hard as she could, and she was like “are u sure” & he said “i can take it” & she nearly put him through a wall lmao

terminators of endearment (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 5 January 2022 18:29 (three years ago)

seemed pretty clear she nominated him as marketing for the ranch more than anything

Weirdly, I felt the same way about the animal rescue people. It seemed like they really wanted a free barn going into the process, but then she definitely seemed to get a lot more out of it than she thought she would. I felt like she had a weird energy, like she was a serotonin addict who had gotten in way over her head.

I absolutely loved Chris and his complete lack of knowledge about the show or the lads or any part of it, and his lovely song at the end.

trishyb, Thursday, 6 January 2022 18:44 (three years ago)

the rescue lady’s vibe was intense and unsettling to me— and she has that thing where she has made her career her personality & only knows how to make other people feel good/seen and thats kind of supplanted any normal way of communicating

like gun to her head she would never tell anyone her actual opinions?

i have known ppl like this and i just find it creepy bc you never really ~know~ them

terminators of endearment (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 6 January 2022 19:00 (three years ago)

chris was great, and his story about his substance abuse & his mom was so awful & sad

terminators of endearment (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 6 January 2022 19:02 (three years ago)

I'm just up to the prom episode.

Greatly enjoyed the Fab Five constantly dunking on the Ranger guy, who was basically a walking stereotype of toxic gender norms. cackled when Antoni dramatically threw his head back and went "oh, masculinity!" when the dude was like "I just eat steak most days, I only eat chicken when no one's looking" lmao

was very moved by Angel and her relationship with her dad

Roz, Tuesday, 11 January 2022 03:32 (three years ago)

oh the prom episode was so lovely, those kids & teachers were so awesome

terminators of endearment (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 11 January 2022 03:47 (three years ago)

two years pass...

Look, I know this show has its problems, and the magic might have worn off or whatever, but in the wedding episode this season, there is one scene where Karamo is wearing the greatest trousers I have ever seen in my human life.

trishyb, Monday, 16 December 2024 16:46 (nine months ago)

Oooh I don't follow their marketing & promo stuff very well but tx for letting us know there are new eps!

Ima Gardener (in orbit), Monday, 16 December 2024 17:29 (nine months ago)

Wtf was going on w the ep about the couple who wanted a wedding?? They were so boring and all they wanted/got was a televised wedding planned by the fab 5? I’ll admit the baby was cute but who cares???

Piggy Lepton (La Lechera), Tuesday, 24 December 2024 01:13 (nine months ago)

I liked the one about Clyde the dealer tho

Piggy Lepton (La Lechera), Tuesday, 24 December 2024 01:13 (nine months ago)

“Snack Attack”

Piggy Lepton (La Lechera), Tuesday, 24 December 2024 01:13 (nine months ago)

Wtf was going on w the ep about the couple who wanted a wedding??

I looked up the new guy and it seems he also presents a show that is basically this, so maybe some crossover synergy happening?

trishyb, Friday, 27 December 2024 15:12 (nine months ago)

I think I'm in love with the new decor guy. When the amazing, beautiful woman in Ep 2 collapsed in her front door and he said, "I don't think I'm going to survive this show" and started crying, it made me think he's going to be a good addition.

Ima Gardener (in orbit), Wednesday, 1 January 2025 21:52 (nine months ago)

I didn't know anything about him, but my sister-in-law has been a big fan for a few years now. Jeremiah and his husband (who used to be the go-to interior designer/home makeover person on Oprah's show) have a successful interior design show already, so it's not like he's going to let himself get overwhelmed by, ahem, pushier personalities.

trishyb, Friday, 3 January 2025 08:26 (nine months ago)

They also have a line of pet goods that I noticed while waiting in line at Petsmart.

Piggy Lepton (La Lechera), Friday, 3 January 2025 15:01 (nine months ago)

Oooh yeah. It seemed like an obviously commercially motivated choice in so many ways, like you both pointed out. The origins of the new Fab Five were kind of...things were less high-stakes when that original crew came together, but now it's obviously all planned and manipulated at a high level. He could have been some smarmy industry plant type, you know what I mean? As a viewer, I've had a positive reaction to his interpersonal skills & emotional availability, at least as shown so far.

Ima Gardener (in orbit), Friday, 3 January 2025 18:16 (nine months ago)
