I'll be in London from 31/10 to 2/11, does anyone fancy a pint?

leigh (leigh), Friday, 5 September 2003 14:17 (twenty-two years ago)

yes, i like to go out on Halloween night - thus avoiding being effectively blackmailed into giving kids my precious chocolate - woohoo

stevem (blueski), Friday, 5 September 2003 14:30 (twenty-two years ago)

I would love to come but I'm getting married the next day!

Tom (Groke), Friday, 5 September 2003 15:08 (twenty-two years ago)

C'mon, like you wouldn't turn down the chance to stumble into your own wedding ceremony stinking of booze...

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 5 September 2003 15:11 (twenty-two years ago)

My plans for eight weeks away are yet to be made, but I'm almost always up for a FAP.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Sunday, 7 September 2003 13:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Was thinking about a wee pub that i went to in fitzrovia, can't remember the name of it for the life of me, off the main drag but still pretty central.

leigh (leigh), Tuesday, 9 September 2003 11:21 (twenty-two years ago)

just remembered

leigh (leigh), Tuesday, 9 September 2003 11:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Good choice! We've FAPPED there before.

Tim (Tim), Tuesday, 9 September 2003 11:29 (twenty-two years ago)

I would strongly discourage any ILXers who are meant to be being my Ushers from attending this. *ahem*

(sorry leigh!)

Tom (Groke), Tuesday, 9 September 2003 11:32 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm guessing the stag night will be well in advance then?

leigh (leigh), Tuesday, 9 September 2003 11:34 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm THERE!!!!

Pete (Pete), Tuesday, 9 September 2003 11:38 (twenty-two years ago)

curse you, entertainment officer!

come on tom, surely we can have a snifter and then get home, i mean the wedding's not 'til 11.30 is it ;)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Tuesday, 9 September 2003 11:49 (twenty-two years ago)

I think it is only fair that Leigh is given the same treatment as the rest of our guests and shown the Spanish B-argh stoppit Tom where are you TAKING me?!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 9 September 2003 13:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Who are the ushers?

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 9 September 2003 13:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Tom, you know you can rely on us.

Tim (Tim), Tuesday, 9 September 2003 13:20 (twenty-two years ago)

here you go, pinky ;)

[oh, my aching sides]

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Tuesday, 9 September 2003 13:27 (twenty-two years ago)

me and tim and some other people not off the boards. pete is the ents officer for the day and thus will be wearing an hawaiian (sp?) shirt

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Tuesday, 9 September 2003 13:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Its not just the Hawaiian shirt, its the all singin, all dancing patented Pete cabaret you're getting.

Pete (Pete), Tuesday, 9 September 2003 13:33 (twenty-two years ago)

They've all posted to the boards at some point - most quite recently!

I will place the matter in the hands of my best men.

Tom (Groke), Tuesday, 9 September 2003 13:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Tom, you know you can rely on your best men.

Tim (Tim), Tuesday, 9 September 2003 13:42 (twenty-two years ago)

leigh i'm very sorry that we have hijacked your thread :)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Tuesday, 9 September 2003 13:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Haha, only because Perry and Raggett have hijacked the real wedding thread.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 9 September 2003 13:56 (twenty-two years ago)

No Problem. I seem to have a very poor sense of timing.

leigh (leigh), Tuesday, 9 September 2003 13:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Thank you steve for that amusing insight! ;-)

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 9 September 2003 14:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Leigh my suspicion is that any FAP thread started 2 months in advance is going to find some mazy paths to wander down before its final happy destination in the pub.

Tom (Groke), Tuesday, 9 September 2003 14:07 (twenty-two years ago)

heh, i'm determined to actually make it to this one, radiohead's touring plans put paid to my last one. The only ilxor i've met so far is Melissa.

leigh (leigh), Tuesday, 9 September 2003 14:12 (twenty-two years ago)

I would have said that was a good start!!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 9 September 2003 14:26 (twenty-two years ago)

a scotsman in london FAP

lest we forget, heh heh heh. actually I'm still at the pub waiting for you

zebedee (zebedee), Tuesday, 9 September 2003 15:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Don't remind me, i must pay more attention to what i type.

leigh (leigh), Tuesday, 9 September 2003 15:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Haha, only because Perry and Raggett have hijacked the real wedding thread.

Don't give me that. Matters of vital national import were discussed.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 9 September 2003 16:00 (twenty-two years ago)

is there really a place called fitzrovia? don't expect me to know abt London, I only lived there for nineteen years.

MarkH (MarkH), Tuesday, 9 September 2003 17:50 (twenty-two years ago)

the fact that tom spelt "ushers" with a capital 'U' made me think of this:

http://www.microguide.co.uk/ushers.gif

quite appropriate for a FAP.

MarkH (MarkH), Tuesday, 9 September 2003 17:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Fitzrovia's just north of soho, sort of noho. I say this as someone who's lived in Edinburgh for 28 years and has only visited central london twice.

leigh (leigh), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 06:53 (twenty-two years ago)

and what's the name of the pub, Leigh? (I can't read it on the image above) I should be able to make it on the 31st.

MarkH (MarkH), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 06:56 (twenty-two years ago)

The Yorkshire Grey. I had a couple of drinks there last time i was down - we spent about 25 mins walking around in circles trying to find it cos my friend couldn't remember the street it was on - she works on Poland Street so tends to go there after work.

leigh (leigh), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 07:03 (twenty-two years ago)

How long do you reckon it'll take me to get to central london from heathrow on the tube? Last time i was down it took me nearly 2 hours to get to Bow from there.

leigh (leigh), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 11:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Hour, tops.

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 11:14 (twenty-two years ago)

There's a freehouse along the street that serves adnams....

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 11:19 (twenty-two years ago)

oooohhhh!
(sorry this comes from being a barmaid & serving pretentious bitter drinkers that come out with statements like 'no, in a jug dear. you can see why she is a barmaid.')

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 11:23 (twenty-two years ago)

But do they serve pissy scottish lager?

leigh (leigh), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 11:24 (twenty-two years ago)

the yorkshire grey doesn't. It serves sock infused Yorkshire 'beers'*

*NB:- use of the term beer does not express my endorsement of Sam Smith's brewery products as such.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 11:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Ed's beer snobbery knows no bounds Pink - its pewter tankard* or nothing for him.

*This may or may not be rhyming slang.

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 11:37 (twenty-two years ago)

I was on softies when i was in. I was very impressed by their low prices, much cheaper than central Edinburgh.

leigh (leigh), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 11:38 (twenty-two years ago)

That's cos sam smith brew their beer from socks.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 11:56 (twenty-two years ago)

One day I will serve Ed some beer brewed from socks and then he will understand the subtle difference.

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 12:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Ed appears to be disproving Baran's First Law of Comedy btw: some work on the hypothesis needed I think Pete.

Tim (Tim), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 12:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Hmm, maybe the joke that needs to be improved by repetition needs to have some vague humour value in itself, no matter how minor. This makes a degree of sense when you consider the repetition as a multiplier effect (or indeed if you are using exponential extrapolation). In both cases we require an amount to be multiplied. If the origianl statement has a zero sum total of humour then there is literally nothing to be multiplied. Hence the statement remains at zero humour despite multiple repetition.

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 12:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Pete is our very own Ted Bovis, even if Tom more looks the part.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 18:38 (twenty-two years ago)

one month passes...
BUMP

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 11:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Yorkshite Grey likely to be VERY busy on Friday night but let's go anyway

leigh are you still here and in town on this date?

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 11:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Sorry, can't make it, as I will be looking at psychedelic Louis Wain CATS!!! which you would know if you'd read this thread, but obviously no one but me and Pink (and RickyT) have:

Halloween: The Institute Of Spookological Research!

kate (kate), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 11:07 (twenty-two years ago)

i am going to the pub no matter what as i wish to avoid the general All Souls shenanigans (townie oiks hurling eggs and demanding confectionary or money and not even bothering with the tricks anymore) bound to occur in my neck of the woods. humbug.

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 11:13 (twenty-two years ago)

we already had some brats throw an egg at our window the other w/e. Little f@#kers!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 11:16 (twenty-two years ago)

some little embezzlers tried it on at the last FAP but were thrown out by the landlord, one is not even safe in the pub.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 11:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Thing that got me was, it was a sunday evening 2 weeks ago, so it wasn't even halloween & they didnt even ask for anything, they just did it for a laugh, which i thought was awful.

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 11:23 (twenty-two years ago)

I got asked 'Trick or treat' by some kids that passed me in the street. Like I carry an arsenal of chocolate around with me.

When asked 'Trick or treat' you should always say: "Oh, I'd like a treat please".

Alfie (Alfie), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 11:23 (twenty-two years ago)

U & K!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 11:24 (twenty-two years ago)

...if you want to end up beaten in an alley by six year old thugs.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 11:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Dude it would be worth it to see the look on those smug little gits' faces!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 11:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Send them all up the chimneys.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 11:27 (twenty-two years ago)

As they kick you in the shins until ungraceful falling upon arse and nick your phone, laughing, laughing that you dare impinge on their "turf"?

Maybe I am paranoid.

Sarah (starry), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 11:27 (twenty-two years ago)

the best thing to do would be to pull out an invisible gun in slow motion and then watch them slowly mouth 'ohhhhh shiiiit' and reach for their own invisible guns, just like in Spaced

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 11:36 (twenty-two years ago)

except they probably really do have guns

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 11:37 (twenty-two years ago)

As they kick you in the shins until ungraceful falling upon arse and nick your phone...

That's where it would be useful to have an arsenal of chocolate to fall back on.

Anyone had 'Fiver for the guy' yet?

Alfie (Alfie), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 11:40 (twenty-two years ago)

urchins: "penny for the guy mister!"
*they brandish their guy - it is a PAIR OF JEANS FOLDED IN A CARBOARD BOX*
mark s: "when i was yr age we at least FINISHED MAKING THE GUY before asking for money!!"
urchins: "that was the olden days mister!"

This is in 1983 btw.

mark s (mark s), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 11:46 (twenty-two years ago)

i have never quite understood the concept behind 'penny for the guy'

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 11:50 (twenty-two years ago)

I really don't have a problem giving a child a penny for a look at their guy.

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 11:55 (twenty-two years ago)

it is now YOU who shall be set alight on Nov 5

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 12:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh Pete. *shakes head*

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 12:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Remember, remember, the fifth of November; gunpowder, treason and smut.

Alfie (Alfie), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 12:06 (twenty-two years ago)

..And if you've a firework and then see a cat, light it and insert in it's butt.

Mikey G (Mikey G), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 12:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Mikey, beware the moon.

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 12:10 (twenty-two years ago)

I only meant it in as much as it is not much money to pay for a small child desplaying a pair of old jeans with tesco's bags stuff down them. You are the smutsters.

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 12:11 (twenty-two years ago)

I shouldn't have typed that. I put an apostraphe in the wrong place.

Mikey G (Mikey G), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 12:14 (twenty-two years ago)

*sniggers*

Mikey, keep clear of the moors.

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 12:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Can't come, for we have invites for Relaxed Muscle Hallowe'en Night at the Barfly.

Marcello Carlin, Wednesday, 29 October 2003 12:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Look out Suzy, there's a new sheriff in town!

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 13:11 (twenty-two years ago)

the best thing to do would be to pull out an invisible gun in slow motion and then watch them slowly mouth 'ohhhhh shiiiit' and reach for their own invisible guns, just like in Spaced

Better still: pull pin from imaginary grenade with teeth, make to throw it slooooowly while mouthing "Mmmmmmmuthhhhhafffffukkkkkaaaa..."

Then jump in a cab and shout "Follow that car!"

Fuck I love that show.

Can't come, for we have invites for Relaxed Muscle Hallowe'en Night at the Barfly.
Look out Suzy, there's a new sheriff in town!

Fuck that, seen 'em twice already in the last 10 days or so ;-) pretty fine, in fact, and the album's well worth a listen.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 13:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Been watching Heathers Jerry?

Anna (Anna), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 13:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Spaced often makes me think I have no original personality of my own as half the things I say are half-remembered bits of dialogue.

I like the axe.
I like my face.
I like your face.
We'll keep the axe.

Dialogue for all times, you'll agree.

Sarah (starry), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 13:31 (twenty-two years ago)

so who IS coming?

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 13:40 (twenty-two years ago)

On the back of the DVD box set it says "Just remember this is only a sitcom". That chills me.

x-post with stevem: Sorry, my friend Martin is having a Halloween party.

Anna (Anna), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 13:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh er I could manage a quick one in Noho maybe.

commital (starry), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 13:43 (twenty-two years ago)

i predict pitiful attendance leading to early trudge home followed by the pelting of eggs at windows by the time Later With Jools comes on :(

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 13:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, I won't be there.

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 13:49 (twenty-two years ago)

you bast

everyone forgot about this, even leigh

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 13:50 (twenty-two years ago)

aw, poor steve...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 15:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Extraordinarily, I have a date that night so can't make it. Except that with my recent track record, I might be free to show up from about 8pm...

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 18:01 (twenty-two years ago)

i've made other plans as well now ;)

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 18:07 (twenty-two years ago)

So are you two dating each other? ;-) (JK obv!)

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 30 October 2003 10:08 (twenty-two years ago)

JK Rowling, Stevem & Skidders love triangle?

Mark C (Mark C), Thursday, 30 October 2003 10:14 (twenty-two years ago)

how bizarre.

MarkH (MarkH), Thursday, 30 October 2003 10:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Hm!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 30 October 2003 10:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Is that the noise you make when you touch yourself, Pinky?

Mark C (Mark C), Thursday, 30 October 2003 10:41 (twenty-two years ago)

*blushes furiously and turns back time to delete previous message*

Mark C (Mark C), Thursday, 30 October 2003 10:41 (twenty-two years ago)

might go see Zongamin at the ICA now as suggested by Barima...so the date is with er, him...gah

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 30 October 2003 11:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Now now Mark C! And besides it's more of an 'mmmmmmmmm' sound! ;-)

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 30 October 2003 11:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Ah, there are other rumours about Stevem and dating, and if they are true he is far more fortunate than Pink's theory would suggest!

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 30 October 2003 18:25 (twenty-two years ago)

don't believe everything you read in OK magazine Martin

stevem (blueski), Friday, 31 October 2003 11:24 (twenty-two years ago)

You lucky, lucky boy Steve!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 31 October 2003 11:52 (twenty-two years ago)

um, fanks

stevem (blueski), Friday, 31 October 2003 12:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Apologies to anyone who turned up - i was ill and didn't make it to london in the end and couldn't get to a computer last week.

leigh (leigh), Tuesday, 4 November 2003 13:21 (twenty-two years ago)

i don't think anyone went. too bad you couldn't make it down tho. some other time maybe.

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 4 November 2003 13:46 (twenty-two years ago)
