OK yesterday I got the go-ahead on the booklet on "if...."

22000 words by March 2004!!

This will mean that as of the end of next week (and contractual faff blah blah) I will be (haha should be) reading and posting a lot less to ILXOR for a fair while, which is sad in lots of ways (for me anyway).

So — while i will be around from time to time — this is just to say THANKS TO EVERYONE EVER ON BOTH BOARDS, friend and foe alike!! If nothing else I developed the Buffy Theory of Everything here, which I intend to have expanded to L.Ron Hubbard proportions by this time next year...

mark s (mark s), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 10:19 (twenty-two years ago)

for good or ill this is i *think* the first book ever to have its genesis in an ile thread:

If....

mark s (mark s), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 10:21 (twenty-two years ago)

mark s (mark s), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 10:23 (twenty-two years ago)

I can't wait to read the book, that will be the upside in all of this! Good luck Mark, ilx will be the poorer for the lack of We Got it Maid coverage.

Nicolars (Nicole), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 11:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh, man. Seeya. Be good.

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 11:41 (twenty-two years ago)

"Nicolars"! It's about time that caught on. Get in.

Mark, it'll be a shame not having you on as frequently, but have fun with the writing -- I promise to buy a copy.

Tep (ktepi), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 11:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Good luck with the book Mark. I just hope the MarkSbots can cope with the increased demand in the meantime.

robster (robster), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 11:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Good luck.

(I also must figure out a way to stop posting here as I'll prob have to start writing up by abt march/april 2004).

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 11:49 (twenty-two years ago)

You'll be missed, mark.

Julio: the way to stop is to stop. Only problem: it doesn't work.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 11:58 (twenty-two years ago)

You must visit as you can or we will cry. See you in October at the least!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 12:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Old thread = 7,568 words (ok, includes email addresses, dates, whatnot). So, yr a third of the way there! Take two months off immediately.

Best of luck with this.

Entirely parenthetical contributions don't count. (er, Alan, how would it cost for this to be true?)

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 14:51 (twenty-two years ago)

We're all doomed!

Tom (Groke), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 14:56 (twenty-two years ago)

N. (nickdastoor), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 15:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 15:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Good luck mark, just get the booklet written quickly and come back to ILX. Okay?

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 24 September 2003 09:08 (twenty-two years ago)

t\'\'t (t\'\'t), Wednesday, 24 September 2003 14:47 (twenty-two years ago)

i once gave him a headbutt with my very tiny head

gabbo giftington (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 24 September 2003 14:52 (twenty-two years ago)

bit late but hey congratulations on this mark! - will you please give us some advance notice on which S&S issue it will be enclosed with? (is If.... on dvd yet? if not you might be asked to appear as the Expert Film Analyst on the commentary you know!)

(actually S&S should start issuing these booklets on audio cds for this very purpose!! - roughly synched-up DarkSide Of The Moon/Wiz Of Oz style. i guess the word-count over 2 hrs might get unwieldy but just think: you could fill it w/ pop tunes or xenakis or whatever like a mixtape! but feel free to ignore this terrific & imminently marketable suggestion) (© jones 2003)

anyway do have fun writing this!

jones (actual), Wednesday, 24 September 2003 15:00 (twenty-two years ago)

A note of clarification on contracts.

Once you have punctually submitted your idiosyncratic text, it will be rewritten by an illiterate American metereological computer. Two years later you will receive a set of proofs bearing scant resemblance to your own writing, with the injunction to return them within 4 days or have your contract unilterally terminated. You will probably be on holiday at the time, and thus not receive the proofs in time to return them.

On the other hand, if you do not submit the text on time your contract will also be terminated.

the pinefox, Thursday, 25 September 2003 13:44 (twenty-two years ago)

mr sinkah, i am deeply proud of you for this, and i am glad that you are writing this--more then glad, how do i say this--i think that yr writing is so wonderfully dense and overgrown that its jungle often contains animals that i am just now finding--what i am worried about/and what mr fox is worried about is that kind of writing will not be rewarded. So how about this, if yr editors rape yr text, then i will rape them (with monkeys and chainsaws and techiques learnt in bejing prison camps. )

anthony easton (anthony), Thursday, 25 September 2003 13:50 (twenty-two years ago)

I like the idea of a team of Anthony's Beijing Trained Attack Monkeys.
