Freaky Trigger Club Night IV - Wednesday 8th October

The Fourth Freaky Trigger Club Night has been booked! It'll be at Parker Place, on the 8th October, from 6:30 until whenever it finishes, the usual nonsense with guest DJs to be confirmed!

It is ALSO Tim Hopkins' birthday the next day and he is keen for everyone to share the ruin.

Tom (Groke), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 15:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Tom hopkins shares his birthday with the next Non/sense night. the 9th of October. Details to follow but there will be live music I believe.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 15:51 (twenty-two years ago)

i hope it's a c86/reggae troupe

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 11 September 2003 10:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Sorry Tim hopkins, Tom Hopkins, of course, being a non/sense dj/

Ed (dali), Thursday, 11 September 2003 10:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Early sets for me = pissed and rubbish rekkids.

Pete (Pete), Thursday, 11 September 2003 10:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Steve is on the late decks this time so expect jumper location trauma.

Tom (Groke), Thursday, 11 September 2003 10:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Stevem my life is a C86/reggae trope.

Pete how does early differ from late in this model?

Ed I kind of know what non/sense is but the rest of your two postings made no sense to me, sorry (btw I have been called Tom at least once a month by various people for as long as I can remember, it's very strange).

Tim (Tim), Thursday, 11 September 2003 10:52 (twenty-two years ago)

There is genuinely a person who shares you surname, with a first name Tom, one might have guess that but I know him and thought I would make that correction whilst keep the thread near the top of new answers to keep both Freaky Trigger IV and non/sense forefront in the minds of people here.

Ed (dali), Thursday, 11 September 2003 10:55 (twenty-two years ago)

"if tom hipkins is dead then i'm the king of the cats!!"

mark s (mark s), Thursday, 11 September 2003 10:56 (twenty-two years ago)

It's that Tim Ewing I'm concerned about.

Tom (Groke), Thursday, 11 September 2003 10:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Tim, try and tell me I making less sense than mark s now.

Ed (dali), Thursday, 11 September 2003 10:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Ed you can glory in the fact that you make about as much sense as S1nkAH right now. So are you saying this so-called Tom Hopkins has a birthday on the same day as me? Is it possible that we inhabit each others' lives?

timewing / tempus fugit.

Tim (Tim), Thursday, 11 September 2003 11:05 (twenty-two years ago)

No, I am not entirely sure when Tom Hopkins' birthday is, I am pretty sure he is not you.

Ed (dali), Thursday, 11 September 2003 11:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Ed you have made my head explode with confusion.

Ricardo (RickyT), Thursday, 11 September 2003 11:10 (twenty-two years ago)

three weeks pass...
This is next Wednesday.

Not only is it a fine evening out. Not only is it Tim H's birthday drinks. Not only is Tim guest DJing. BUT ALSO there will be a Focus Group early in the evening. DO NOT MISS THIS ONE!

Tom (Groke), Friday, 3 October 2003 15:15 (twenty-two years ago)

I'll be there!

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 3 October 2003 16:29 (twenty-two years ago)

I won't :(

Matt DC (Matt DC), Saturday, 4 October 2003 12:52 (twenty-two years ago)

I haven't been to one yet. Maybe I should go. It's stupidly close to us. But HSA STILL WANTS TO KNOW IF YOU WILL PLAY BONEY M!!!

kate (kate), Saturday, 4 October 2003 12:55 (twenty-two years ago)

'Rasputin' is the greatest song in the universe so i heartily endorse the campaign for more Boney M at FT nights

stevem (blueski), Saturday, 4 October 2003 13:30 (twenty-two years ago)

He was Russia's greatest love machine!

Everything they have played so far has been sound art. We might except Pete's rendition of whichever focus group tune it was they all failed to bring along. Gay Bar, was it?

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Sunday, 5 October 2003 17:41 (twenty-two years ago)

yeh it was, i shall treasure the memory, but it has been topped more recently by acapella Carter

stevem (blueski), Sunday, 5 October 2003 18:12 (twenty-two years ago)

"Night Flight to Venus" would be good!

MarkH (MarkH), Monday, 6 October 2003 07:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Me and the missus will be there, with knobs on. Possibly.

Mark C (Mark C), Monday, 6 October 2003 09:18 (twenty-two years ago)

BUMP

Tom (Groke), Wednesday, 8 October 2003 11:22 (twenty-two years ago)

have a nice ruin, i will be on a train

mark s (mark s), Wednesday, 8 October 2003 11:37 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm lookin' forward to it cos this time all i have to do is hop on the 55 and i'm there in 15 mins - so i'll arrive around 6.30 i expect

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 8 October 2003 11:40 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm 33. Am I too old to attend this Freaky Deaky thing?

Mikey G (Mikey G), Wednesday, 8 October 2003 12:14 (twenty-two years ago)

see you there...

toby (tsg20), Wednesday, 8 October 2003 12:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Cool, I'll dig out my Whitesnake tour jacket.

Mikey G (Mikey G), Wednesday, 8 October 2003 12:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Goddamn. Can't you have it at Club Latino or something?

Answer: NO

Cos from the looks of things it's been closed down.

Enrique (Enrique), Wednesday, 8 October 2003 12:30 (twenty-two years ago)

ABOUT FUCKING TIME. We did used to have it (its forerunner anyway) at Latino.

Cmon Enrique the X90 Night Owls thing is only 6 quid.

Tom (Groke), Wednesday, 8 October 2003 12:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Sometimes I think that Oxford as a whole has closed down, not just Club Latino.

Marcello Carlin, Wednesday, 8 October 2003 12:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Are any Premiership footballers going?

Mikey G (Mikey G), Wednesday, 8 October 2003 12:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Stern John and Steed Malbranque will be there, i invited them specifically to make fun of their names

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 8 October 2003 12:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Well said. What's weird is: I was looking thru old ILMs, saw that Sussed had been Thursday at Latinos. I DJed on a Thursday there in about 1999. Indie nite. It was rotten. I used to live on the X-90 (fer the cinema), and I'd love to rilly, but the missus isn't keen, really. Gah.
Drums.

Marcello: noooo, I wouldn't go that far. Not that I've been out-out since January.

Enrique (Enrique), Wednesday, 8 October 2003 12:48 (twenty-two years ago)

ouchie

chris (chris), Thursday, 9 October 2003 08:09 (twenty-two years ago)

ouchie ouchie...

latinos seemed to have been almost pulled down when we went past on saturday, i know they were having a lot of problems with their licence...

also thank you everyone who came (except hatman and his friend)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 9 October 2003 08:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Krazy 'Amores Perros' moment there - it was Saturday when I saw it. It bit the big one whatever.

Enrique (Enrique), Thursday, 9 October 2003 08:17 (twenty-two years ago)

hatman!

the ruin is mine this morning - pinefox and dave q turning up tho, you'd have got good odds...

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 9 October 2003 08:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Don't forget, more ruin

Non/Sense Thurday October 9th

Ed (dali), Thursday, 9 October 2003 09:07 (twenty-two years ago)

When I wondered where exactly the FT night was taking place, Mark C referred to Tom E as a BEACON that would guide me.

the pinefox, Thursday, 9 October 2003 12:58 (twenty-two years ago)

+: SteveM is right - it was undoubtedly the biggest THE BOSS fan convention that any ilx event has ever witnessed.

the pinefox, Thursday, 9 October 2003 13:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Martin Skidmore did not hink much of my first set, but then someone had sabotaged me and unplugged one of the CD playaz.

Pete (Pete), Thursday, 9 October 2003 13:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Meg is the best DJ ever. (Please tell her Steve).

Anna (Anna), Thursday, 9 October 2003 14:13 (twenty-two years ago)

You can now see DAYLIGHT thru Latinos! It is but a shell.

I loved doing the focus group thing, but had to grade three songs zero since I was talking to Liz and was totally oblivious to their quality - I reasoned that if I was oblivious to them then they couldn't've been much cop.

all the DJs were good, the reggae tune Tim H played which he'd told me about previously was every bit as good as he made out and Meg is not only a good DJ she also has a sterling knowledge of bus stop location which assisted me in getting back to Victoria on the 38 (A Routemaster! W/ Conductor!) to get the aforementioned X90. Hope Enrique is able to slip his ball and chain for the next FTCN!

Marcello is WOTM re: Oxford, BTW.

MarkH (MarkH), Thursday, 9 October 2003 14:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Wot does 'W' stand for in WOTM?
Also: MEGABUS, or something. Skanky old no-toilet double-dekkas - but a quid each way!!!!!!! If you book 6 weeks in advance. Instead I watched a not great 80s French film called 'Blanc et Noir' about a fitness regime that goes awry.
Anyway... I'll thread this up actually, I think it's a good un.

Enrique (Enrique), Thursday, 9 October 2003 15:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Wide as in "wide of the mark".

I must've met you at some point, Enrique. There are after all only 50 ppl in Oxford and they all know each other.

MarkH (MarkH), Thursday, 9 October 2003 15:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Surely you mean 'North London'?

Enrique (Enrique), Thursday, 9 October 2003 15:29 (twenty-two years ago)

I had to leave when I started feeling a little too hot/exhausted, but 'hey' to anyone I met/shook hands with/nodded at/smiled at etc. Steve and Tom, good too see you crazyloids again.

Barima/Burma (Barima), Thursday, 9 October 2003 16:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh dear I was very drunk by the end of it and I believe vowing never to darken the doors of Parker Place again such was my outrage at Hat Man. I think my sets may have been a bit wayward too. Ah well there's always next Friday (shudder).

Tom (Groke), Thursday, 9 October 2003 16:08 (twenty-two years ago)

meg's set ruled! she should dj more

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 9 October 2003 16:27 (twenty-two years ago)

hehe, i shall pass on your messages of support. i assumed WOTM was Well On The Money...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 9 October 2003 17:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Martin Skidmore did not hink much of my first set, but then someone had sabotaged me and unplugged one of the CD playaz.

Sacreliege! Hope you cuffed 'em, Pete!

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Thursday, 9 October 2003 18:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Pete did start with what I can only assume was a deliberately rubbish series of songs, but it picked up afterwards. Meg's was certainly the strongest and most coherent set, I thought. I had a great time as usual, and it was good to meet Burma. I regretted saying no more than a word or two to a few people, but that's the trouble with a big turnout. And I left earlyish, as I wasn't feeling too fantastic.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 9 October 2003 20:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Tim's set matched Meg's, and I'm not just saying that cos it's his birthday. It was a lovely evening, and good to meet you, Burma. Looking forward to next month's shebang(s).

Mark C (Mark C), Thursday, 9 October 2003 22:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Mark C is my new best friend.

Just in case any of you who got that CD I was djing from and handed drunkenly around were wondering how the track listing went, it went like this:

2. The Tennors - Weather Report
3. The Extremists - Shine On
4. Home T, Cocoa Tea and Shabba Ranks - Pirates’ Anthem
5. Richard Twice - If I Knew You Were The One
6. Quarteto Em Cy - Berimbau
7. The Paragons - The Tide Is High
8. The Fall - English Scheme
9. Eighth Wonder - I’m Not Scared
10. Taskforce & Braintax - Rockstarz
11. Champion Doug Veitch - Not The Heart
12. The DeZurik Sisters - The Arizona Yodeler
13. Sanchez - Baby Can I Hold You Tonight
14. TY - Ha Ha
15. Fred Schneider - Monster
16. Nora Dean - Barbwire
17. Sir Lord Comic - Jack Of My Trade
18. Lost Souls - Jokers’ Opus
19. Propoganda - Duel
20. Sex Boots Dread - Tickle Tune

Tim (Tim), Friday, 10 October 2003 07:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Happy bday Tim.

Tell me about hat man, somebody.

Sam (chirombo), Friday, 10 October 2003 07:57 (twenty-two years ago)

dinna dinna dinna dinna, dinna dinna dinna dinna HATMAN!

MarkH (MarkH), Friday, 10 October 2003 08:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Hat Man basically wore a hat (not sure what that type is called but reminiscent of spiv) sat on the plush sofa in the middle of what would otherwise be the dancefloor most of the night generally looking moody and unimpressed by things, seemingly refusing to budge when asked so that people may be able to strut their stuff. What a character.

stevem (blueski), Friday, 10 October 2003 08:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Good to meet you dudes too. stevem was right about Meg too, I was upset when as I left, she dropped 'Emerge'.

Hat Man was the creepy Hoxtonite/fashionista/pervert type sitting in the sofa near stevem's table, right?

X-Post. Right. Yeah. Pervert.

Barima (Barima), Friday, 10 October 2003 08:12 (twenty-two years ago)

he did budge eventually tho didn't he? I'm sure I saw the sofa being moved to a different location at some point.

MarkH (MarkH), Friday, 10 October 2003 08:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh you found tickle tune after all, good job Tim Tim.

Sarah (starry), Friday, 10 October 2003 08:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes my vinyl copy was hunkered down in Crystal Palace, hiding from me.

Tim (Tim), Friday, 10 October 2003 08:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah to be fair to Hatman as soon as somebody (me) asked to move the sofa and table they moved it immediately and were very helpful. The reason for the anti-hatman sentiment was that they had arranged with the owner to kick us off the decks and have a lock-in during which they would play apalling prog house if the records he was playing earlier were anything to go by.

I have to say I am hankering for actual dancing to be on the agenda at Club FT.

Tom (Groke), Friday, 10 October 2003 09:12 (twenty-two years ago)

my heart wanted to dance to 'voodoo ray', dead or alive and whatnot but my head said 'buy more gin and talk complete gibberish to whoever will listen' - stoopid head

stevem (blueski), Friday, 10 October 2003 09:27 (twenty-two years ago)

i think he was Swiss.

charltonlido (gareth), Friday, 10 October 2003 09:29 (twenty-two years ago)

oh yes, Voodoo Ray! It was fantastic hearing that again, speshly as it was the original version rather than wot I have at home (Voodoo Ray Americas, on Gerald's "Automanikk" album) which, as I mentioned to Alan T, is a bit shite.

MarkH (MarkH), Friday, 10 October 2003 09:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Swiss Hatman?

MarkH (MarkH), Friday, 10 October 2003 09:30 (twenty-two years ago)

What sort of dancing? There was dancing at the one I was at. Of a sort.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 10 October 2003 09:41 (twenty-two years ago)

I usually dance, but I didn't this time as Swiss Hatman put the fear of God into me.

Anna (Anna), Friday, 10 October 2003 10:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Me & Alan danced! Clearly our dancing is not very infectious. I blame the DJs for playing undanceable tunes.

Emma, Friday, 10 October 2003 10:12 (twenty-two years ago)

"Alan and I" "Alan danced. I danced."
Hello

Alan (Alan), Friday, 10 October 2003 10:16 (twenty-two years ago)

I also blame PP for its high booze prices. Cheaper booze = pisseder punters = more dancing.

Emma, Friday, 10 October 2003 10:18 (twenty-two years ago)

how was the food?

MarkH (MarkH), Friday, 10 October 2003 10:28 (twenty-two years ago)

OK but again, it is not conducive to dancing. I once had pad thai there and had to sit and digest for about 2 hours.

Emma, Friday, 10 October 2003 10:31 (twenty-two years ago)
