OK I know this looks like spam but it's really not. I just don't know what's the name of the club, and what's the name of the supporting bands. Anyway if you had your choice where would you see somebody play?

And feel free to talk about YOUR favorite place to see YOUR favorite band. (The band is The Modey Lemon, btw, who I have written about at length on ILM.)

Tracer, surely if you idolise and worship this band then you'll be going to all three?

Mark C (Mark C), Friday, 10 October 2003 12:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, part-timer.

Of those three venues I'd choose the Spitz by a mile, though frankly even that place leaves a good deal to be desired.

Tim (Tim), Friday, 10 October 2003 12:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Possiblt the best gig of my life was Pulp in the Ambassador, one of the worst venues in Dublin. So, go to whichever one you want is my advice.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 10 October 2003 12:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Two of the shows are on the same night. It would be kind of weird to go to both.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Friday, 10 October 2003 12:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Of those three, definitely the Spitz. (It is October, so it won't be TOOO hot. The worst problem with the Spitz is that it has no AC and it's in a building with a glass roof and they can't open the windows, so it gets unreally hot.) The sound is usually OK, it's "in the round" so you have 3 times the likelihood of being able to see.

Definitely not the Barfly. Feh feh. Outrageously expensive drinks, a badly shaped venue (the panhandle of death! oh no!) always overful of nasty trendy types and the sound is terrible. Plus, on a Friday night, it will have Camden Weekend Terror.

The Metro is OK... not brilliant, but better than the Barfly. They have a separate section where hipsters who just want to schmooze can go sit and yak without getting in your way. It's really hard to get a good view, too.

(What's the band, BTW?)

kate (kate), Friday, 10 October 2003 12:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Are you sure that Late Nite thing is actually a performance? Usually "Late Nite" things at the Barfly are DJ sets rather than live performances. I'd check if I were you!

kate (kate), Friday, 10 October 2003 12:32 (twenty-one years ago)

trust me these guys will not DJ!! kate you should come! although you will probably hate them because they're thrashy and noisy and not droney. the guitar player is an androgynous god though, and they are both sweaty and dirty and from pittsburgh and they recorded their last album in an old brass factory!

MODEY LEMON 0wnZ you

The best place to watch my Smashing Pumpkins video is in my living room.

jel -- (jel), Friday, 10 October 2003 16:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Fiery Furnaces are opening? I've been digging their album quite a bit.

Elvis Telecom (Chris Barrus), Friday, 10 October 2003 16:47 (twenty-one years ago)

what kate said. definitely go to spitz! the barfly has terrible sight lines, they oversell shows, and it's usually packed with industry, while the metro has abominable sound. plus queens of noize are djing at the barfly... aieeee! avoid like the plague.

lauren (laurenp), Friday, 10 October 2003 18:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Modey Lemon rocks.

The best place to see bands you worship. . .my living room.

A Girl Named Sam (thatgirl), Friday, 10 October 2003 18:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Kyle took me to Bimbo's in SF. That's some place, right there.

adaml (adaml), Friday, 10 October 2003 18:51 (twenty-one years ago)

I've never had a bad experience at Maxwell's that was caused by the club...

Douglas (Douglas), Friday, 10 October 2003 19:14 (twenty-one years ago)

despite less-than-stellar sound and weird bits of ceiling coming down, the mighty robot space in williamsburg is my favorite place in the ny metro area. maxwell's is a close second.
my overall favorite places of all time to see bands are the beachland tavern or pat's in the flats in lovely cleveland, ohio.

lauren (laurenp), Friday, 10 October 2003 20:26 (twenty-one years ago)

If The Modey Lemon doesn't sound like a cross between Depeche Mode and The Lemonheads, I'm not interested.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 10 October 2003 22:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Exeter Cavern. It's not a particularly good veue, but I'm feeling nostalgic tonight.

Matt (Matt), Friday, 10 October 2003 22:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Good luck with trying to figure out where to go to. I have no idea what you're talking about in terms of who the musical artist is, but I do know about near-idolization in terms of musical artists, so, um, ta-daaaa.

As for more personal terms, hm. I suppose the best place to see Duran Duran would be at the Universal Amphitheater, in the front row, amongst my fellow fans so we could squeal and shout and totally act younger than our ages for 90 - 120 glorious minutes. *giggle*

I saw Turbonegro at the Black Cat in DC, and it was intimate enough, but it would have been better if it was 21 +up.
