"Intolerable Cruelty" really is pretty good if you go with fairly low expectations!

"You're exposed!"

adaml (adaml), Saturday, 18 October 2003 06:12 (twenty-two years ago)

george clooney's teeth are the real stars of that movie!

s1utsky (slutsky), Saturday, 18 October 2003 20:32 (twenty-two years ago)

I wish I knew why this wasn't the worst film ever. It had all the ingredients.

Herbstmute (Wintermute), Saturday, 18 October 2003 21:13 (twenty-two years ago)

well I don't know if I agree with that but it WAS way better than I expected it to be, though "way better" = "a decent-enough comedy," probably the most we can expect from the bros. Coen these days.

you know who has final cut in hollywood these days? the coens, woody allen and maybe one or two other directors. and look at the result!

Viva la system!

michael mann has final cut and he makes good movies, but i take your point.

Probably the worst Coen Bros. movie ever, but still pretty fun. I think that the whole pointless Wheezy Joe segment was all just set-up for that final shockingly funny joke with the inhaler.

NA (Nick A.), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 14:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Er, would that be the Coen Brother two of whose last three films ("O Brother" and "The Big Lebowski") were their best ever?

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 15:02 (twenty-two years ago)

You krazy son-of-a-bitch. Get off the crack.

NA (Nick A.), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 15:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Before Kill Bill we had some time to, uh, kill, so we snuck in and watched the last 10 minutes of this movie (the whole Wheezy Joe thing). It seemed better than I expected. Plus I realized then that Catherine Zeta-Jones looks exactly like a girl I've had a crush on since I was 15.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 15:40 (twenty-two years ago)

The moment where George looks up and sees this huge, brutish, asthmatic neanderthal and quietly asks "Are you...Wheezy Joe?" was just brilliant.

adaml (adaml), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 22:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Besides the Wheezy Joe death scene, the best part was the insane court scene early in the movie with the bizarre hotel guy and the judge saying "I'll allow it."

NA (Nick A.), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 23:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Best arguments today for seeing it on DVD. Not that the idea of seeing Clooney wouldn't make me save my cash, anyway.

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 23:16 (twenty-two years ago)

(The guy who plays Wheezy Joe was the voice of Bruno the Bigfoot in Sam & Max Hit the Road-!!! WTF)

Herbstmute (Wintermute), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 23:17 (twenty-two years ago)

I got a headache after seeing Intolerable Cruelty. But then again, I walked into that theater with very high expectations. Maybe if I thought, "Ok, this is going to be the worst movie I'll ever see," then I'd have walked out of that theater with a smile on my face and a relieved feeling of, "Well, at least that wasn't nearly as bad as The Love Letter!"

And I don't care what kind of personality Catherine Zeta-Jones has (or doesn't have, as the case may be). I would still kill to look like her.

my favourite was the shot of clooney's teeth through the windshield!

Even though Stephen Dorff is hammy and laughable. That only makes it better!
