eating non-breakfast food for breakfast because there's nothing else in the house (or you are too lazy or sensible to whip up pancakes from scratch at 7 am): c or d?

in the last few mornings, i have eaten half a sandwich, some chicken, and a slice of foccacia. somehow this doesnt seem right to me. also, they taste bad with coffee. and yet, i do not like the taste of most "breakfast" foods and my stomach starts to hurt if i am up earlier than 7 and i dont eat something.

mohammed abba (dubplatestyle), Friday, 24 October 2003 11:29 (twenty-two years ago)

i mean, i could just do without, but that seems cruel. your body is a temple, after all.

COLD PIZZA

the surface noise (electricsound), Friday, 24 October 2003 11:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Who arbitrarily decided what foods would be "breakfast" or not? I mean, there was about a 2 or 3 year period when I used to eat pizza for breakfast every day.

So long as it's not too spicey and doesn't hurt your stomach (though I suspect the Indian subcontinent would have something to say about that!) then just so long as you get food in, I don't see any difference!

CHOCOLATE

PIE

stevem (blueski), Friday, 24 October 2003 11:32 (twenty-two years ago)

i really do think the designation "breakfast food" fits anything that tastes good with coffee. (this includes cigarettes, ha ha)

BLOODY MARYS

the surface noise (electricsound), Friday, 24 October 2003 11:32 (twenty-two years ago)

oh yes, the "cookie breakfast" is a weakness too.

mohammed abba (dubplatestyle), Friday, 24 October 2003 11:32 (twenty-two years ago)

I love that advert with the little girl with a slice of chocolate cake bigger than her own head that goes "Look mum! I made mine own breakfast!"

kate (kate), Friday, 24 October 2003 11:33 (twenty-two years ago)

On Boxing day every year I have trifle for breakfast.

Madchen (Madchen), Friday, 24 October 2003 11:33 (twenty-two years ago)

bill cosby to thread.

mohammed abba (dubplatestyle), Friday, 24 October 2003 11:34 (twenty-two years ago)

"kippers for breakfast aunt helga? is it saint swithins day already?"

mohammed abba (dubplatestyle), Friday, 24 October 2003 11:34 (twenty-two years ago)

At first glance, I thought that read "tripe" for breakfast.

kate (kate), Friday, 24 October 2003 11:34 (twenty-two years ago)

"trifle for breakfast?!"

http://thecosbyshow75.altervista.org/italiano/immagini/119.jpg

the surface noise (electricsound), Friday, 24 October 2003 11:35 (twenty-two years ago)

"I'm having trife for breakfast"

mohammed abba (dubplatestyle), Friday, 24 October 2003 11:35 (twenty-two years ago)

that's what i thought

stevem (blueski), Friday, 24 October 2003 11:37 (twenty-two years ago)

i think ethan would be a fine breakfast date! he certainly eats well!

mohammed abba (dubplatestyle), Friday, 24 October 2003 11:40 (twenty-two years ago)

is ethan a vegetarian?

the surface noise (electricsound), Friday, 24 October 2003 11:41 (twenty-two years ago)

his mother is a vegan, so he goes vegan nominally. although yesterday he ate a big soul food lunch, the description of which forced me to eat barbecue from a plastic tub at 2 am.

mohammed abba (dubplatestyle), Friday, 24 October 2003 11:42 (twenty-two years ago)

so i shan't be cooking a slap-up bacon'n'sausage grill for him anytime soon then

the surface noise (electricsound), Friday, 24 October 2003 11:43 (twenty-two years ago)

no, but i'll be over in an hour.

mohammed abba (dubplatestyle), Friday, 24 October 2003 11:44 (twenty-two years ago)

The breakfast curries I had in Sri Lanka are the finest way to start a day. I miss them. But yep, I'll eat anything I fancy for breakfast, the breakfast food monopoly by certain foodstuffs is just wrong.

Note, this does not stretch to Breakfast Bouze.

Pete (Pete), Friday, 24 October 2003 11:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Try to stay away from the cookie breakfast. I always regret it.

I was always more of a lunch person and used to resent restaurants my family would go to that had late breakfasts, when they could be serving lunch. (What do you mean the turkey club is not available at this hour?!)

Now I eat Metropolitan Bakery stuff and grow fatter. (Sorry I reminded you of their existence again.)

Al Andalous, Friday, 24 October 2003 11:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, the cookie breakfast provides a quick high, but it burns off really fast and you're screwed by about 11am. :-(

kate (kate), Friday, 24 October 2003 11:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Back to this breakfast with Trife idea -- orange juice or mimosa?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 24 October 2003 11:59 (twenty-two years ago)

What about the idea of the champagne breakfast? Why is champagne the only socially-acceptable alcohol to drink first thing?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 24 October 2003 12:00 (twenty-two years ago)

And here I thought you were thinking of making a breakfast *of* Trife.

kate (kate), Friday, 24 October 2003 12:00 (twenty-two years ago)

breakfast w.trife =- MUSHY BEES!

(that WAS my joke)

mark s (mark s), Friday, 24 October 2003 12:00 (twenty-two years ago)

i hate hate hate eating non breakfast foods for breakfast. my friends in high school described 'my world' as breakfastland, because i expect to be able to get breakfast at any restaurant at any time.

the only exception to this rule is the chocolate for breakfast thing. can be cake, cookies, candy bars, or my recent fave, chocolate mousse.

i have no idea why this is the case. i'm weird.

colette (a2lette), Friday, 24 October 2003 12:12 (twenty-two years ago)

No no no, you mustn't eat sweet things first thing in the morning, it's WRONG I tell you, just WRONG

smee (smee), Friday, 24 October 2003 12:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Are you crazy? What about toast and honey and crunchy nut cornflakes and... trifle?

Madchen (Madchen), Friday, 24 October 2003 12:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, the cookie breakfast provides a quick high, but it burns off really fast and you're screwed by about 11am. :-(
-- kate

Then you get to each your first lunch at 11:00 a.m. IT'S ALL GOOD!

Skottie, Friday, 24 October 2003 12:41 (twenty-two years ago)

each=eat Where did that come from?

Skottie, Friday, 24 October 2003 12:42 (twenty-two years ago)

"They don't know about second breakfast?"

Kingfish (Kingfish), Friday, 24 October 2003 13:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Curry for breakfast is good, as it doesn't count as breakfast but leftovers so you can stlil have toast and orange juice and scrambled eggs afterwards if that is your wont.

Sarah (starry), Friday, 24 October 2003 13:31 (twenty-two years ago)

i find Chinese food much tastier and wholesome the morning after

stevem (blueski), Friday, 24 October 2003 13:38 (twenty-two years ago)

I always drink soda in the morning so what i eat doesn't really matter.

A Girl Named Sam (thatgirl), Friday, 24 October 2003 13:44 (twenty-two years ago)

i find Chinese food much tastier and wholesome the morning after
especially on top of cold pizza ha ha

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 24 October 2003 13:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Ugggghh not since That Spring Roll Incident have I eaten chinese. Morning after pizza of course is a congealed horror of which we do not speak BUT STILL END UP EATING whilst hating yourself as you drag your hungover CORPS out of the house, scaring away small children with your wizened stench of stale booze.

Sarah (starry), Friday, 24 October 2003 13:45 (twenty-two years ago)

i rarely eat breakfast, milk upsets my stomach early in the am so I can't eat cereal. I save cereal for dinner. Plus I get up at 4:45am, so i really don't ever feel like eating breakfast. I have a smoke instead. At work I have a big coffee and that keeps me satisfied until lunch time at 11.

Chris V. (Chris V), Friday, 24 October 2003 13:46 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't eat breakfast on any day other than Saturday, but I make up for it by eating five breakfasts.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 24 October 2003 13:48 (twenty-two years ago)

mmmmmmmm, hash browns with a hint of tabasco and chili powder is grebt for breakfast. Specially if there is any burrito mix leftover from any mexican food the night before.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Friday, 24 October 2003 13:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Fruitcake makes for a great breakfast.

Matt (Matt), Friday, 24 October 2003 14:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Bigtime breakfast cooking is plenty fun. Huevos Rancheros from sratch is fun (except peeling the tomatoes).

Pete (Pete), Friday, 24 October 2003 14:24 (twenty-two years ago)

I usually just smoke a cigarette, pound some coffee, and raid the candy basket at work for some chocolate. This keeps me afloat until around noon when I get some dinner and pound more coffee.

Dale the Titled (cprek), Friday, 24 October 2003 14:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Why is champagne the only socially-acceptable alcohol to drink first thing?

I personally don't care for Bloody Marys, but a lot of people swear by them for brunch.

And if you WANT to do vodka shots for breakfast fine; just don't then go driving anywhere near me, please.

j.lu (j.lu), Friday, 24 October 2003 15:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Ciagettes and black tea, there aint nothing like them!

Lara (Lara), Friday, 24 October 2003 16:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh, and Jameson.

Lara (Lara), Friday, 24 October 2003 16:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Courgettes, did you say?

Paul Eater (eater), Friday, 24 October 2003 16:28 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't like breakfast things for breakfast always - I'd often rather have a cheeseburger for breakfast and pancakes for dinner.

luna (luna.c), Friday, 24 October 2003 16:38 (twenty-two years ago)

That's why I keep saying they need a Cheeseburger McGriddle!

Tep (ktepi), Friday, 24 October 2003 16:39 (twenty-two years ago)

You are a genius, and if you can make this happen, I will bequeath to you all of my worldly goods.

luna (luna.c), Friday, 24 October 2003 16:41 (twenty-two years ago)

I'll bet I could make it happen at about 10:25am ...

Tep (ktepi), Friday, 24 October 2003 17:12 (twenty-two years ago)

cold pizza with cornflakes on top!!

geeta (geeta), Friday, 24 October 2003 19:37 (twenty-two years ago)

eewww.

breakfast is a luxury (no it isn't!! get up earlier you lazy fuckass!!) usually i have an orange and some instant oatmeal at work.

nachos are good in the am too, but too heavy on the meat & jalepeno and it gets tricky

g--ff c-nn-n (gcannon), Friday, 24 October 2003 19:45 (twenty-two years ago)

marmite with bovril on top!!

geeta (geeta), Friday, 24 October 2003 21:03 (twenty-two years ago)

bah where is mark s

geeta (geeta), Friday, 24 October 2003 21:06 (twenty-two years ago)

he's making a marmite and bovril sandwich

stevem (blueski), Friday, 24 October 2003 21:08 (twenty-two years ago)

with nutella on top!!

hey stevem!

geeta (geeta), Friday, 24 October 2003 21:08 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't understand how you people survive without breakfast of some sort. Cigarettes and/or coffee does not qualify as 'some sort'. I have a hard enough time stopping my stomach from eating its lining if I skimp and only eat a poptart and a banana.

oops (Oops), Friday, 24 October 2003 21:16 (twenty-two years ago)

i wz eating an avocado boiled-egg style!!

mark s (mark s), Friday, 24 October 2003 21:34 (twenty-two years ago)

i have breakfast last thing at night!

mark s (mark s), Friday, 24 October 2003 21:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Vegemite toast you fules! All that tasty vitamin B to cure ze hangover, num. I often have nowt more than coffee and painkillers for brekky though, my stomach doesnt wake up til about 11 anyway, so I just can't eat.

Mind you my "breakfast" today has consisted of nutella on bread, then some plain cornchips with creamy capsicum dip, and a capsicum dip and cold chicken sandwich. Though that was more lunch I spose.

Trayce (trayce), Saturday, 25 October 2003 03:23 (twenty-two years ago)

this morning = porridge!! w.salt of course cz i am part scot

(haha scottish brekfst wd be classic if instead of sugarpuffs there were SALT PUFFS!!)

mark s (mark s), Saturday, 25 October 2003 07:46 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm having a cookie breakfast (w prawn flavoured chips)

mitch lastnamewithheld (mitchlnw), Saturday, 25 October 2003 08:01 (twenty-two years ago)

potato-flavoured fish and prawn-flavoured chips!!

mark s (mark s), Saturday, 25 October 2003 08:01 (twenty-two years ago)

i am pretty rigid about breakfast. i hate eating it. nothing tastes good at 7:30am. least of all weetbix. but i make myself do it, because i'm scared that if i skip breakfast i will turn into my mum.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Saturday, 25 October 2003 08:03 (twenty-two years ago)

have you ever had bananabix di? weetabix with fake-banana baked in! it tastes horrid

geeta (geeta), Saturday, 25 October 2003 08:23 (twenty-two years ago)

i have never had bananabix. fake banana must truly be the fruit of satan's bottom.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Saturday, 25 October 2003 08:24 (twenty-two years ago)

hahaha!!

di we shd start a death metal band called bananabix and our first album will be called 'fruit of satan's bottom'

it will rock so hardcore

geeta (geeta), Saturday, 25 October 2003 08:29 (twenty-two years ago)

fuckin A!

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Saturday, 25 October 2003 08:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Well I've not eaten so far today, and my lunch is gonna be macaroni cheese with some chipolatas, so I guess that's actually my breakfast, which is classic.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Saturday, 25 October 2003 09:22 (twenty-two years ago)

The Italians are right: espresso and a sweet cake. Breakfast of champions.

colin s barrow (colin s barrow), Saturday, 25 October 2003 09:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Hm, it's 7:30 and I don't know what I want for breakfast. I have a couple of options close by, though (my fave choices are further away in town but easily reached by bus -- however, they're also near a good used CD shop and I don't want to be tempted until payday next week). Decisions, decisions.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 25 October 2003 13:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Are you crazy? What about toast and honey and crunchy nut cornflakes and... trifle?
-- Madchen

Trifle? For breakfast? OMG that's just so wrong...1st thing you eat has gotta be savoury, it's in the RULES you should've read the small print, you're doomed.....

smee (smee), Monday, 27 October 2003 13:16 (twenty-two years ago)

It's only on one day a year - Mum always makes trifle for Christmas tea, but nobody can handle it (a couple of sticks of celery are about as much as I can force down by then). But cold custard and whipped cream and SHERRY make the perfect Boxing Day breakfast. And I urge you all to try it this year. Yum.

Madchen (Madchen), Monday, 27 October 2003 13:43 (twenty-two years ago)

sweet things are good for brekkies - SUGAR RUSH U MUTHAS

stevem (blueski), Monday, 27 October 2003 13:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Boxing Day breakfast, oysters. It's a family tradition. And beer.

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 27 October 2003 13:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Madchen is painfully OTM. I must make trifle soon, it's just a shame that Vicky is weird and doesn't like it.

chris (chris), Monday, 27 October 2003 13:48 (twenty-two years ago)

I am not much of a trifle fan, in fact I shun all christmas desserts.

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 27 October 2003 13:50 (twenty-two years ago)

I luv trifle, just not for breakfast - bleuch!

smee (smee), Monday, 27 October 2003 14:05 (twenty-two years ago)

the russians own this thread btw: like, caviar, cabbage juice, chicken, fish, hamburgers, pancakes with mincemeat, ravioli, salted fat/lard, meat jelly, salami, blood sausage etc etc. thats just one days breakfast.

it was hell out there, i tell you...

ambrose (ambrose), Monday, 27 October 2003 14:54 (twenty-two years ago)

But trifle is for breakfast, not just for Christmas!

(PS I don't actually like trifle)

Matt (Matt), Monday, 27 October 2003 15:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Trifle for breakfast doesn't sound much different than having waffles with fruit and whipped cream on them which is a perfectly reasonable breakfast - for a big tub of crap like myself.
I just had a Kit Kat and two cups of coffee for breakfast. No wonder I'm so dopey.
