Anyone know why Wild Cat Strikes are called Wild Cat Strikes? I know its because they are not union based but why Wild Cat?

Because the bourgeoisie literally regard the workers as animals.

Because once the wildcats did go on strike, and lo the mouse population of Scotland did rise at a fearsome rate.

It comes from the National Circus Strike of 1953. There was a dispute of insurance, pay and conditions for the main acts, but a consortium went to ACAS with circus management (mainly representinve of Boultings and Ringling Bros) to come to some agreement. The individual Unions involved, especially the trapeeze and the lion tamers felt sold down the river by this deal (which had agreed only to insure their lives during performances and not during training). In particular the Confedation of Animal Trainers went straight out on a strike that lasted over eight months before it was resolved.

The phrase originally therefore was actually Wild CAT Strike, named after the CAT strike of 1953.

Any good baranometer is surely just the word 'lies' and a pointer fixed so it always indicates that. Letting it move would just cause mistakes.

A black cat has been an anarchosyndicalist image for ages. This is the original design, I think.
