What is the deal with all of the drunks?

Julio, it's about time you started a thread!

This is where we say good things abt the best fruit drink of them all. It is all I drink at FAPs btw.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Tuesday, 4 November 2003 17:13 (twenty-one years ago)

mmmm, pulp

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 4 November 2003 17:18 (twenty-one years ago)

mmmmm, jarvis.

Allyzay, Tuesday, 4 November 2003 17:19 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't really care for orange juice, and my family is from Florida. I think it's the pulp.

NA (Nick A.), Tuesday, 4 November 2003 17:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Orange juice is fucking marvellous, I drink litres of the stuff every week.

I'd never buy it in the pub though, mostly because it seems to be the most ludicrously overpriced of all non-alcoholic drinks and only served in pissy little glasses when everyone knows it should be consumed in LITRES straight from the carton.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 4 November 2003 17:22 (twenty-one years ago)

mdc otm

Annouschka (Jody Beth Rosen), Tuesday, 4 November 2003 17:24 (twenty-one years ago)

i'd love a glass of the stuff NOW

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 4 November 2003 17:30 (twenty-one years ago)

oh what the hell wack some vodka in there

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 4 November 2003 17:30 (twenty-one years ago)

i've just bought a big carton of NON-premium from-concentrate stuff for the first time in years, and i gotta say it's pretty damn nice!!

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Tuesday, 4 November 2003 17:35 (twenty-one years ago)

I go through a quart of OJ every 3 days.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 4 November 2003 17:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Chunky with pulp, not-from-concentrate, calcium-supplemented style.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 4 November 2003 17:40 (twenty-one years ago)

I love it.

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 4 November 2003 17:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Me too.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 4 November 2003 17:44 (twenty-one years ago)

I LOVE orange juice. I (and my mom when I was a kid I suppose) used to use the frozen stuff for ages (Old South), but ever since Tropicana came on the market that all changed - I've never gone back to frozen or anything else. I do find that the Tropicana here in the UK isn't as good as the stuff I got in Canada, though. PLUS they don't have the 'Grovestand' variety here, which has extra pulp. I like my pulp. And they don't have the jumbo jug size here either, which sucks, coz I drink a lot.

Fresh squeezed is obviously the best, but it's too expensive. Yeah, Tropicana ain't cheap either, but it's one thing I won't skimp on when shopping. I've tried other 'not from concentrate' brands but nothing seems to measure up. I hope that Tropicana have ethical business practices, because if I heard bad shit about them I'd be in for a real moral dilemna...

I loved going to Florida and getting a big jug of fresh stuff for cheap (or even free with breakfast at hotels). Yummmm!

Julio, I feel for you - the OJ that you usually get at bars from the gun thingy is yucky.

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Tuesday, 4 November 2003 17:49 (twenty-one years ago)

my old roomie couldn't stand orange juice, he said the sweetness made his mouth squinch up, his throat get thick and phlegmy, and the acid hurt his stomach. so of course that's all i bought juice-wise for the next two years!

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Tuesday, 4 November 2003 17:55 (twenty-one years ago)

my college roommate said that he hated smoking cigarettes while drinking orange juice and that it brought on similar squinching plegmatism as tracer's roommate.

BUT he insisted on pouring himself a glass and lighting up a marlboro red and going througha big contortionist redfaced bleurghhhhh routine whenever there was OJ available.

I think it was some sort of performance art thing for my benefit, looking back on it. It was pretty awesome.

Fritz Wollner (Fritz), Tuesday, 4 November 2003 17:59 (twenty-one years ago)

I love it, but the extra pulpy version is kind of vile.

Nicolars (Nicole), Tuesday, 4 November 2003 18:00 (twenty-one years ago)

It is all I drink at FAPs btw.

Have to have at least one, before my first alky dose. Dilutes the stuff, and less poss of a raging hangover

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Tuesday, 4 November 2003 18:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Lemonade is better.

jel -- (jel), Tuesday, 4 November 2003 18:05 (twenty-one years ago)

combine the two for best effect

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 4 November 2003 18:07 (twenty-one years ago)

OJ and Cranberry is a nice combo too

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Tuesday, 4 November 2003 18:13 (twenty-one years ago)

when I went to Space Academy(a.k.a. Space Camp for older kids), i learned how to wake up in the morning with grapefruit juice.

Kingfish (Kingfish), Tuesday, 4 November 2003 18:13 (twenty-one years ago)

I am having orange juice right now.

Allyzay, Tuesday, 4 November 2003 18:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Also, Edwyn Collins when he was cool.

Nicolars (Nicole), Tuesday, 4 November 2003 18:17 (twenty-one years ago)

I love orange juice. Don't like it with too much pulp though.

Oran Juice Jones rules.

Chris V. (Chris V), Tuesday, 4 November 2003 18:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Fresh squeezed OJ made every couple of days from oranges bought at a farmer's market weekly = one of my specific pleasures.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 4 November 2003 18:21 (twenty-one years ago)

does anyone own a Juiceman thingy?

Chris V. (Chris V), Tuesday, 4 November 2003 18:22 (twenty-one years ago)

"Juiceman thingy!" Oh-er

jel -- (jel), Tuesday, 4 November 2003 18:23 (twenty-one years ago)

I take this to work and keep it in our fridge there - I drink just about a litre a day at work. I drink the really cheap stuff, 35p a litre from Sainsbury's. Paying three times as much gets you something slightly nicer, but not so much that I care.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 4 November 2003 20:41 (twenty-one years ago)

However wonderful OJ is there must always be a large window of time between the brushing of the teeth and the drinking of the OJ else 'tis hell to pay.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 4 November 2003 20:48 (twenty-one years ago)

trudat

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 4 November 2003 20:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Yus. This is why you drink the OJ first.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 4 November 2003 20:51 (twenty-one years ago)

There is nothing whatsoever wrong with the 35p a litre economy Sainsburys stuff. In fact, I still maintain its better than regular Sainsburys orange juice.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 4 November 2003 21:56 (twenty-one years ago)

yes! cheapo OJ is the new tropicana

Fritz Wollner (Fritz), Tuesday, 4 November 2003 21:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Has anyone ever taken any juice from that vending "juice squashed while you wait" machine at London Euston station? That thing just worries me. It's unnatural.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Tuesday, 4 November 2003 22:07 (twenty-one years ago)

I drink oodles of orange juice mixed 50/50 with lemonade.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Tuesday, 4 November 2003 22:45 (twenty-one years ago)

For a sec, I misread that as "Orange Juice mixed...with Vodka".

Too early for a drink.

My bad.

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Tuesday, 4 November 2003 22:47 (twenty-one years ago)

I would seldom drink it with alcohol though, I gave up vodka after the nightmares.

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 4 November 2003 22:50 (twenty-one years ago)

I used to drink 2 liters a days of OJ while in high school and college. I actually would take a carton to drink while I drove a bus. My mother used to yell at me about this all the time. She said I would get an ulcer.

I also used to mix oj and milk all the time. It gets all creamy.

Carey (Carey), Tuesday, 4 November 2003 22:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Doesn't OJ and milk curdle something fucking terrible?

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Tuesday, 4 November 2003 23:00 (twenty-one years ago)

I also used to mix oj and milk all the time. It gets all creamy.

An OJ smoothie? Did you toss in some sugar too, Carey?

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Tuesday, 4 November 2003 23:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Urgh urgh urgh urgh urgh my old housemate used to drink coke mixed 50/50 with OJ, it was fucking gross, looked like radioactive sulphur sludge. Urgh urgh urgh urgh.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Tuesday, 4 November 2003 23:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes, I liked the globs of milk.

Carey (Carey), Tuesday, 4 November 2003 23:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Excuse me whilst I eviscerate myself.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Tuesday, 4 November 2003 23:02 (twenty-one years ago)

could someone bring me some oj please?

A Girl Named Sam (thatgirl), Tuesday, 4 November 2003 23:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Here, I have some in my eviscerated belly. It's mixed with ice-cream and so has curdled, but I'm sure it's still lovely.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Tuesday, 4 November 2003 23:07 (twenty-one years ago)

It's not like it's bad for you. It's a tasty treat!

Maybe this has something to do with my mother not allowing me to ever eat candy.

Carey (Carey), Tuesday, 4 November 2003 23:11 (twenty-one years ago)

You clearly had a cruel, vicious mother.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 4 November 2003 23:11 (twenty-one years ago)

But she'd happily allow you to mix milk and OJ?

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Tuesday, 4 November 2003 23:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Who says that she knew?

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Tuesday, 4 November 2003 23:12 (twenty-one years ago)

The unnatural sweetness of Tropicana is really offputting. Plus it's like twice as expensive as any other juice on the shelf.

Matt DC, Saturday, 3 January 2009 12:15 (sixteen years ago)

Re: Tropicana packaging, ostensibly they made it 'easy to pour!' but actually it's a smaller bottle with the price jacked. In fury I switched to local store brand who maintain their big jug size (hur hur) and are still cheaper.

franny glass, Saturday, 3 January 2009 13:48 (sixteen years ago)

lol @ the fluff post above! fluff does win :/

Surmounter, Saturday, 3 January 2009 19:22 (sixteen years ago)

one month passes...

tropicana changed their product packaging. weird!

Tracer Hand, Tuesday, 24 February 2009 13:10 (sixteen years ago)

or those who's nearest thing to a corner shop is the CVS.

Ed, Tuesday, 24 February 2009 13:10 (sixteen years ago)

Sainsbury's OJ >>>> Tropicana

I want sprinkles (country matters), Tuesday, 24 February 2009 13:11 (sixteen years ago)

There are many many thinks better than tropicana, however tropicana >>>>>>anything with added high fructose corn syrup, grape juice, pear juice or other things that don't belong in 'pure' juice products.

Ed, Tuesday, 24 February 2009 13:13 (sixteen years ago)

I'm too ill to get the good stuff from the Giant Eagle.

Ed, Tuesday, 24 February 2009 13:13 (sixteen years ago)

frozen cans of juice are just about as good for a fraction of the price

or for the same price, squeeze the oranges yourself, and remind yourself that trop pure prem does not actually taste like fresh squeezed orange juice by a long chalk

Tracer Hand, Tuesday, 24 February 2009 13:18 (sixteen years ago)

innocent orange juice is not bad. Actually tastes like oranges.

Bone Thugs-N-Harmony ft Phil Collins (jim), Tuesday, 24 February 2009 13:22 (sixteen years ago)

yeah and it costs £1.20 for a bottle about the size of your little finger!

tropicana pure premium is the be all end all of orange juice. although here in america, we don't use BRITISH ORANGES, so i don't know wtf you are drinking

cutty, Tuesday, 24 February 2009 13:36 (sixteen years ago)

you have been brainwashed by their whole "reassuringly expensive" thing i'm telling you.

Tracer Hand, Tuesday, 24 February 2009 13:49 (sixteen years ago)

lakewood>>>>>tropicana

THand otm about tropicana tasting no better than the frozen stuff. I must try the frozen stuff they have at the food coop sometime soon.

Ed, Tuesday, 24 February 2009 14:10 (sixteen years ago)

otm and I'm in the UK, you all are orange juice alts.

Local Garda, Tuesday, 24 February 2009 14:54 (sixteen years ago)

i hear you can make trop pure prem taste even better if you wave a magic crystal over it.

Tracer Hand, Tuesday, 24 February 2009 14:57 (sixteen years ago)

keep drinking that frozen shit man

cutty, Tuesday, 24 February 2009 15:46 (sixteen years ago)

Tracer Hand, Tuesday, 24 February 2009 15:48 (sixteen years ago)

lol at switching back to the obviously superior old carton - still tastes awful tho - cutty im surprised ur so into these empty calories

ice cr?m, Tuesday, 24 February 2009 15:52 (sixteen years ago)

i drink one glass of orange juice a day with breakfast, probably the extent of empty calories in my life

cutty, Tuesday, 24 February 2009 16:16 (sixteen years ago)

awwww i had grown affections for their new packages

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Tuesday, 24 February 2009 21:33 (sixteen years ago)

odwalla is the bomb

is OJ empty calories?

The Notorious B.Y.O.B. (M@tt He1ges0n), Tuesday, 24 February 2009 21:35 (sixteen years ago)

Odwalla tastes like rind! Blearg!

Calories not quite empty...there's Vitamin C in there and fiber if you hve pulp...

kate78, Tuesday, 24 February 2009 21:37 (sixteen years ago)

Potassium, too.

kate78, Tuesday, 24 February 2009 21:37 (sixteen years ago)

schef they are keeping the orange nipples on the lids

cutty, Tuesday, 24 February 2009 21:51 (sixteen years ago)

the new carton was vaguely socialist

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Tuesday, 24 February 2009 21:58 (sixteen years ago)

I wouldn't be surprised - at all - if this "about-face" were entirely orchestrated by Tropicana themselves, knowing that editors will run any article that allows them to mention Twitter and Facebook.

Tracer Hand, Tuesday, 24 February 2009 22:15 (sixteen years ago)

it's a LOT of money to waste on rebranding just to turn around a month later though -- i'm kind of curious about it too because it's such a quick turn of face but when you're already #1 in your field, it's not like they needed the publicity...? are they really shitting their pants that much over florida's natural that they'd waste that kind of money on getting a day's worth of news stories?

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Wednesday, 25 February 2009 02:45 (sixteen years ago)

tracer you are orange juice hitler

cutty, Wednesday, 25 February 2009 02:47 (sixteen years ago)

Those caps will be used, Mr. Campbell said, for cartons of Trop 50, a variety of Tropicana with less sugar and calories that is to be introduced soon.

Diet O.J.!

Virginia Plain, Wednesday, 25 February 2009 03:36 (sixteen years ago)

I also liked the new look tropicana. It felt all clean and Ipod-y.

sorry, trop, you lost me.

dan selzer, Wednesday, 25 February 2009 05:59 (sixteen years ago)

also, re: diet OJ, there are more calories in a serving of OJ than there is in a can of Coke.

dan selzer, Wednesday, 25 February 2009 06:00 (sixteen years ago)

of course, one of them tastes like drinking a glass of pure sunshine, while the other tastes like day-old battery acid.

And I'm not knocking the refreshing delight that is Coca-Cola Classic.

I love soft drinks WAY to much.

dan selzer, Wednesday, 25 February 2009 06:01 (sixteen years ago)

Ally have you seen those new cartons though?? It looks like it took maybe a week. I dunno. I'm probably giving too much credit to the their ad agency to organize something like this.

Dan I could be wrong but I was under the impression that the sugar in OJ is "better" than the sugar in Coke?

Tracer Hand, Wednesday, 25 February 2009 10:19 (sixteen years ago)

meme economist (special guest stars mark bronson), Wednesday, 25 February 2009 10:21 (sixteen years ago)

innocent orange juice is good tho...credit where it's due.

i got tropicana orange and mango recently and it was vile, the consistency is all gloopy.

Local Garda, Wednesday, 25 February 2009 11:22 (sixteen years ago)

innocent is dope, but really expensive. it was on special a lot when they launched it, is i guess how i came to be drinking it.

meme economist (special guest stars mark bronson), Wednesday, 25 February 2009 11:23 (sixteen years ago)

funny how that works

Tracer Hand, Wednesday, 25 February 2009 11:25 (sixteen years ago)

it's still cheaper than tropicana I thought? maybe not. yeah when launched think it was 2 for 3 quid, pretty good.

tbh i often buy innocent smoothies over and above orange juice. that purple one with acai and stuff in is unreal. the only prob is you drink the entire carton over breakfast.

Local Garda, Wednesday, 25 February 2009 11:44 (sixteen years ago)

OJ is healthier then Coke, sure. It actually has vitamins, has no caffeine etc etc, and I suppose there are ways in which OJ's sugar is more healthy than Coke's high-fructose corn syrup (or even Coke's sugar, if you're in Mexico, Europe or just Kosher), but in the end, a calorie is a calorie is a calorie!

dan selzer, Wednesday, 25 February 2009 12:49 (sixteen years ago)

You need calories to live!!

Tracer Hand, Wednesday, 25 February 2009 12:58 (sixteen years ago)

tropicana pure premium is the be all end all of orange juice drinkable substances.

tropicana is good, but i have a soft spot on my palate for the nasty drugstore reconstituted FCOJ in the gallon jug. sorry haters.
