Hey kids, as uncle tim don't do that thread starting thing, he would like me to point out that there will be a FAP this sunday afternoon in london as the delightful Felicity Redwell is in town and deserves to be shown a good time. As yet no venue has been agreed on, but somewhere central-ish can be assumed (possibility of the calthorpe).

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 09:57 (twenty-one years ago)

...or if anyone else has any better ideas...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 09:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Is Calthorpe open Sunday?

suzy (suzy), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 09:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Arrrr, I'm supposed to go to a big party on the 9th. When is this there FAP?

kate (kate), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 10:01 (twenty-one years ago)

HI DERE

Amazing Randy (Amazing Randy), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 10:10 (twenty-one years ago)

I believe the calthorpe is open on sunday, if no there is always the Gunmakers.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 10:13 (twenty-one years ago)

i'll try and pop down if i can get all my stuff moved into new house in time

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 10:19 (twenty-one years ago)

I'll be there... where is this Calthorpe of which you speak?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 10:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Grays Inn Road, about halfway from kings cross

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 10:29 (twenty-one years ago)

I'll pop up there and find out if its open on Sunday.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 10:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Calthorpe Arms

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 10:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh, hang on, we've all been there, haven't we?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 10:34 (twenty-one years ago)

we did the rude crossword there

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 10:40 (twenty-one years ago)

We have done dirty crosswords in many places.

Ricardo (RickyT), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 10:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Ah yes, free food and hapless bar staff... a fine choice.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 10:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Start time 12pm. Obv.

(I've got to get a flight later in the afternoon so this will be a rolling fap).

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 10:45 (twenty-one years ago)

felicity do you plan to hop the eurostar and visit me?

amateur!st (amateurist), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 10:46 (twenty-one years ago)

(sobbing into my mango shake)

amateur!st (amateurist), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 10:46 (twenty-one years ago)

felcity's here??? i had no idea!

anyway sunday afternoon sounds like a good idea. it's my best friend & flatmate's birthday party the previous night, though, so i may be suffering from epic ruin.

toby (tsg20), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 10:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Ah... irritatingly, this clashes with me finding out that Kylie is #1 and Johnny Cash hasn't made the top 40 (chart set to be rather dull this week, annoyingly). Soz.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 11:07 (twenty-one years ago)

bring a Walkman (with radio) and a notepad silly.

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 11:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Pete, noon is suicidally early to start one of these things. I'm all fort a rolling FAP but what sort of time do sane (or truthful) people want to arrive?

I'll be there btw.

Tim (Tim), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 12:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, if we can combine it with a PUB LUNCH (does this Calthorpe place serve Yorkshire Pud?)

Her Royal Highness Queen Kate (kate), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 12:22 (twenty-one years ago)

I think it is time for my morning constitutional, I shall go and see.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 12:25 (twenty-one years ago)

A pub lunch is the best thing anyone's suggested so far. But a LATE pub lunch (ie about 2pm)?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 12:28 (twenty-one years ago)

This all seems like an excellent plan, particularly a latish pub lunch. Beer tastes better on Sundays.

Ricardo (RickyT), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 12:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Somewhere with a screen showing the Liverpool/United game might also be a good shout (although having both this + food + enough space to sit might be pushing it).

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 12:39 (twenty-one years ago)

if the weather's like it is today we may need a beer garden

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 12:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Drinking outside? Ew.

Tim (Tim), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 12:51 (twenty-one years ago)

scared of a drive-by eh? YOU SHOULD BE

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 12:53 (twenty-one years ago)

I plan to arrive just after Stevem has left.

Tim (Tim), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 12:57 (twenty-one years ago)

haha, will you be lurking round the corner peeping out every now and then to see if i'm still there?

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 13:00 (twenty-one years ago)

No I'll get one of my friends to telephone me once the SMELL has subsided.

Tim (Tim), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 13:01 (twenty-one years ago)

not a fan of elderflower? shame

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 13:02 (twenty-one years ago)

My flight is at 4:40 so I have to leave about 2:30. So I suppose I could start at 12:30.

Suicidally early. I just wish they opened at 11 like on a normal day.

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 13:20 (twenty-one years ago)

:(

biloxilido (gareth), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 13:23 (twenty-one years ago)

I'll go! Perhaps this time I might be able to say more than 3 words to Felicity to make up for my poor showing last time!

Sarah (starry), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 13:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Pete I could probably get there by 1, yard arms and that.

Sarah (starry), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 13:26 (twenty-one years ago)

the calthorpe has a telly which normally has the footy on, i'm assuming liverpool/manu is the super sunday match rather than the PPV, but they might have that as well...

...i'm toying with the idea of going to watford to watch the egg-chasing with mypete, but unsure yet, would still be back for a reasonable time.

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 13:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Liverpool v manyoo is on at 1.45 on Skysports one. I has to be watched, the normal game is quite tasty too, but in the last minute I've forgotten what it is

chris (chris), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 13:39 (twenty-one years ago)

gareth has the Biloxi Blues

http://www.damnthe.com/poster/acatalog/biloxi_blues_adv.jpg

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 13:40 (twenty-one years ago)

I can be there early for this - I'm quite prepared to drag myself out of bed early on a Sunday to meet again the wonderful Felicity (I didn't know she was in town either). I am keen to see the match too. I look forward to food info.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 13:44 (twenty-one years ago)

will Barry Lasagne be there?

chris (chris), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 13:53 (twenty-one years ago)

I hear he's quite tasty.

Sarah (starry), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 13:54 (twenty-one years ago)

cheesy, with a dark crust

chris (chris), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 13:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Not to mention saucy

Madchen (Madchen), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 14:06 (twenty-one years ago)

frozen.

RJG (RJG), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 14:07 (twenty-one years ago)

The Calthorpe is indeed open on sunday from midday, lunch from midday to 2:30.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 14:16 (twenty-one years ago)

I shan't be along till much later.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 14:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Thank you, Carsmile!

Pub lunch yum! It will be wonderful to see everyone. I hope Starry will show me her legwarmers and/or her sweater with the dangly bits. I am terrible at rude crossword but I'd like to try. (5,3) Maybe someone can explain the rules of Liverpool v. Manchester roundball to me.

felicity (felicity), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 14:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Haha - I know what you're going to do...

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 10 November 2003 10:33 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't know WHAT you mean :)

Sarah (starry), Monday, 10 November 2003 10:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Hmm - is pre-Dexy's FAP happening? Cos I fancy an excuse to get out of here early doors and go to A Record Shop pre-Come-On-Eileen-ing.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Monday, 10 November 2003 13:56 (twenty-one years ago)

i would come but i have to go up and gussy up my curtains

stevem (blueski), Monday, 10 November 2003 13:59 (twenty-one years ago)

(first up = home, second up = up)

stevem (blueski), Monday, 10 November 2003 14:00 (twenty-one years ago)

it all depends on timings, I have to go meet my ticket

chris (chris), Monday, 10 November 2003 14:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Where are Dexy's playing, anyway?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 10 November 2003 14:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Royal Festibubble Hall.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Monday, 10 November 2003 14:06 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm planning to be at the Lyceum Tavern on The Strand from 5ish to 7ish before making my way to the RFH. (I'd post a URL to the appropriate page on http://www.fancyapint.com but I am in a hurry so you can do it yourself, if you feel like it.)

Tim (Tim), Monday, 10 November 2003 14:33 (twenty-one years ago)

It was very good to see the krewe!! Though I didn't get to talk w/felicity enough! She was talking with a mysterious barristrix about wigs the whole time.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Monday, 10 November 2003 14:37 (twenty-one years ago)

http://www.fancyapint.com/thepubs/pub611.htm

Therein lies the motherfucker. This is the one where we had the Nick Southall FAP, isn't it?

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Monday, 10 November 2003 14:40 (twenty-one years ago)

A fine choice, Mr Hopkins. I should be there about sixish.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 10 November 2003 14:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Lovely afternoon yesterday. Great to see you Felicity!

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 10 November 2003 14:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Well done Barry.

Tim (Tim), Monday, 10 November 2003 14:52 (twenty-one years ago)

picture the scene, a tall, shaven-headed man in an AFC Wimbledon jacket enters the pub:

20 people turn round and say "HI BARRY!"

it was like an episode of cheers :)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 10 November 2003 14:57 (twenty-one years ago)

My uncle's called Barry. He's a morris dancer. At his wedding, his morris dancing mates performed a special song for him with their morrissing sticks and tambourines. I can't remember any of the lyrics apart from "ourrrr friend caalled BARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGH-RRY." Which ended every verse. It was quite lovely though, and I shall now imagine you all as morris dancers.

Hmm.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Monday, 10 November 2003 15:19 (twenty-one years ago)

my entrance was more akin to Lilith Crane's

stevem (blueski), Monday, 10 November 2003 15:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Any photos?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 10 November 2003 15:42 (twenty-one years ago)

there will be, felicity came equipped.

stevem (blueski), Monday, 10 November 2003 15:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Idiots. That'll cost em in pay-offs or him and his team. And who are they going to get to resolve the almost impossibl;e situation they're in?

Something went bad in the state of Leeds and it's still not resolved - I put it all down to a creeping decay and schlerosis that the Bowyer/Woodgate incident brought into the open; I think O'Leary unleashed a monster in terms of the attitude of the team he created and the club royally fucked up the management of the relationship between old-football and nu-football.

Dave B (daveb), Monday, 10 November 2003 15:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Wrong thread, Dave.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 10 November 2003 15:56 (twenty-one years ago)

I know this know. Maybe it was talked about yesterday and I'm coming in late on the chat. Doubtful though. Apologies all and one.

Dave B (daveb), Monday, 10 November 2003 15:57 (twenty-one years ago)

I know this know?

Dave B (daveb), Monday, 10 November 2003 15:58 (twenty-one years ago)

sheesh. I wasn't even there.

Dave B (daveb), Monday, 10 November 2003 15:58 (twenty-one years ago)

yes, but, nick, i do think that while its possible that further localized politics in westphalia region will have immediate positive effect in lessening local unrest, that, over the long term, it will have a detrimental effect vis a vis the wider region

charltonlido (gareth), Monday, 10 November 2003 15:58 (twenty-one years ago)

It was Donovan! DONOVAN I tell you. Adam Ant my arse.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 10 November 2003 16:00 (twenty-one years ago)

ah, dave, we did need you yesterday as we thought you might be able to tell us how lancaster city's ground got it's name, as we were rather intrigued whilst watching soccer saturday to hear the match report LIVE FROM THE GIANT AXE!

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 10 November 2003 17:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Also, he would've been able to tell us about the rules of football in the late 19th Century. About how you were able to pick up the ball, and whoever got to the ball first got to take throw-ins, or whatever it was we were banging on about. Probably.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 10 November 2003 17:21 (twenty-one years ago)

No-body knows... Great website BTW. Heard it was because the site was shaped like a axe-handle from the air, but this theory is patently bollocks because a) it simply doesn't and b) aerial views of the site were not commonplace enough to make it something that would be used by all and sundry.

Matt - see this

Dave B (daveb), Monday, 10 November 2003 17:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Like.. WTF?! Half those rules make NO SENSE WHATSOEVER.

8 - If a player makes a fair catch, he shall be entitled to a free kick, providing he claims it by making a mark with his heel at
once; and in order to take such a kick he may go back as far as he pleases, and no player on the opposite side shall advance
beyond his mark until he has kicked.

No wonder this one died a swift death.

Incidentally, why is it that the noble province of Blackheath, home to DC, Boyle, Pinefox and Kate's Lapdog, successfully brought along THREE teams to this meeting, but now has NOT ONE proper football club to its name? (Real answer, because they are all fat egg-chasing toffs, and stropped out when the concept of the "fair catch" was made illegal").

Aside - Freemason's Arms FAP, anyone?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 10 November 2003 21:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Coolio.

My housemate has started going to Blackheath; they annoyingly call themselves 'club' - note note 'the' club. They see this as their right because they were first. They are welcome to their petty peanut hugging wankerdom. I also hate the Pricness of Wales pub as it was here that said 'club' were founded. Curses.

Dave B (daveb), Tuesday, 11 November 2003 09:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Erm... wait! Which Freemasons Arms? The one on Great Queen St by the Freemasons hall? I REALLY want to go to that pub!

Citizen Kate (kate), Tuesday, 11 November 2003 09:44 (twenty-one years ago)

isn't that long acre? it is that one though, it has a sign outside saying "this is where the football association was founded", which kind of gives it away a bit...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Tuesday, 11 November 2003 09:58 (twenty-one years ago)

God you mean, here was I thinking it was about Freemasonry and it's all bloody footie again. Boo hiss.

Citizen Kate (kate), Tuesday, 11 November 2003 10:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Freemasonary and footie go hand in hand, clearly.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 11 November 2003 10:15 (twenty-one years ago)

I couldn't tell - how are those guys going to show the one cuffed trouser on the pitch?

suzy (suzy), Tuesday, 11 November 2003 10:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Kate, have you got some sort of red flashing light that goes off on your computer the second the word freemason gets added to any thread ;)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Tuesday, 11 November 2003 10:21 (twenty-one years ago)

(it's all in the Handbook, Steve)

suzy (suzy), Tuesday, 11 November 2003 10:22 (twenty-one years ago)

You know my freaky spooky freemasonric ring? Well, the ruby eyes in the skull start flashing and all that.

Citizen Kate (kate), Tuesday, 11 November 2003 10:24 (twenty-one years ago)

OK, i'm just plain scared now...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Tuesday, 11 November 2003 10:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Hi! I____ Ptee served as a useful object-lesson and I made it back into my country ok. It was so wonderful to see you all as always at the main FAP and the mini-echo FAP and to meet blueski, Carsmile, Mandee, Her Highness' lapdog, cabbage, W/B/S, Cis and the Irish Lass of a doll that was Starry's +1. Hm, I am sure I am forgetting to namecheck someone (I blame my date for the evening a/k/a the 5-hour double chocolate stout) but I have evidence that will help me refresh my memory.

I learned so many, many things on this trip but one is that becoming a Chelsea supporter at 3-0 while intoxicated is not necessarily the most popular move around those parts.

felicity (felicity), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 04:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Rah for Felicity! Though it sounds her football choice was infelicitous. *is beaten thoroughly*

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 05:39 (twenty-one years ago)

they had a nice blue uniform you see

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 10:20 (twenty-one years ago)

What happened to Charlton? (Athletic, not Lido).

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 10:21 (twenty-one years ago)

I obviously didn't get the memo about the fishnets, my bad.
