Mike Hanle y (mike), Saturday, 8 November 2003 04:54 (twenty-two years ago)

put enough salt on and you won't be able to tell the difference

the surface noise (electricsound), Saturday, 8 November 2003 05:04 (twenty-two years ago)

I can't believe what I'm reading! Raw celery is delicious and refreshing, as long as you have floss on hand. Ants on a log, anyone?

antexit (antexit), Saturday, 8 November 2003 05:08 (twenty-two years ago)

A serving of boeuf tartare for M. Hanle y!

j.lu (j.lu), Saturday, 8 November 2003 05:51 (twenty-two years ago)

eat raw like sishi

Eisbär (llamasfur), Saturday, 8 November 2003 05:55 (twenty-two years ago)

No, it causes you to grow hair on the back.

Fresh like Gucci
Raw like sushi...

Skottie, Saturday, 8 November 2003 07:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Celery is fine. Mushrooms, on the other hand, despite being prevalent in their raw state in salad bars, are better off cooked, to destroy toxins. (As is eggplant, too, but nobody's eating eggplant raw.)

jaymc (jaymc), Saturday, 8 November 2003 09:48 (twenty-two years ago)

of course you moran!

A Girl Named Sam (thatgirl), Saturday, 8 November 2003 10:05 (twenty-two years ago)

yes, of course, surprised you had to ask, usw.

is there truth in the idea that you can lose weight by eating raw celery as the energy you expend chewing it is much greater than the nutritional value of eating it? Several ppl have told me this, but maybe its an urban myth. Or a rural myth, seeing as most celery is grown in rural areas I think.

MarkH (MarkH), Saturday, 8 November 2003 11:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes it is true Mark: http://www.snopes.com/food/ingredient/celery.asp

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Saturday, 8 November 2003 12:02 (twenty-two years ago)

I misread this just now, thinking this was just another meta-meta-thread, "celery without cookies." And of course, the answer to that would be, no. ALways eat celery with cookies. But don't the Brits say celeriac or some nonsense like that? I mean, some alternative, probably orignal and therefore more nearly correct, and yet, somehow kind of weird and prissy, sort of way? Or no.

Skottie, Saturday, 8 November 2003 13:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Celeriac is something else completely. Go to www.celeriac.com (it has it's own website?!??!)

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 8 November 2003 13:09 (twenty-two years ago)

(Obv that apostrophe wasn't meant to be there)

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 8 November 2003 13:10 (twenty-two years ago)

celeriac sounds as if it should mean someone who is addicted to celery.

MarkH (MarkH), Saturday, 8 November 2003 13:15 (twenty-two years ago)

I sit corrected. Angry and bitter, and naturally defensive, but corrected. Thanks ailsa! That website is great by the way. Somekind of computer consultancy naming itself after the vegetable because it's ugly yet tastes good. No wonder the Internet crashed and burned!

Skottie, Saturday, 8 November 2003 13:23 (twenty-two years ago)

WHO THE FUCK COOKS CELERY?!!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Saturday, 8 November 2003 13:55 (twenty-two years ago)

I mean, way to ruin everything that's good about it...

Matt DC (Matt DC), Saturday, 8 November 2003 13:56 (twenty-two years ago)

no, it's nice cooked as well

BUT the water it is cooked in, if allowed by slobbiness accident to stand overnight, ABSOLUTELY STINKS

mark s (mark s), Saturday, 8 November 2003 14:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Mary (Mary), Saturday, 8 November 2003 19:34 (twenty-two years ago)

WHO THE FUCK COOKS CELERY?!!

You can make nice soup with celery, mmmm....celery and stilton soup is my favourite home-made soup at the moment.

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 8 November 2003 19:37 (twenty-two years ago)

i saw a friend eat it dipped in worcestershire sauce once. he was on drugs at the time, though. but he eats everything, even when he isn't.

mitch lastnamewithheld (mitchlnw), Saturday, 8 November 2003 19:38 (twenty-two years ago)

It's only my favourite home-made soup at the moment because it's the last one I made. Tonight I am going to make parsnip and apple soup.

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 8 November 2003 19:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Hmmm can I come to your house for tea tonight?

Personally I hate celery. Raw I can just eat, but cooked I can't stand, and the worst thing is it makes everything else taste of celery.

celeste (Celeste), Saturday, 8 November 2003 20:01 (twenty-two years ago)

one year passes...
Elsewhere I have just seen celery referred to as "Nature's buttbrush."

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Wednesday, 25 May 2005 02:56 (twenty years ago)

No wonder you have to cook it.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 25 May 2005 02:57 (twenty years ago)

Let it also be known that the idea of Hanle y Deus asking in desperation about feral hamster makes me so happy.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 25 May 2005 02:59 (twenty years ago)

Surely I'm not the only one who enjoys celery sticks spread with peanut-butter

Seuss, Wednesday, 25 May 2005 03:06 (twenty years ago)

no you're not seuss. i like celery and peanut butter together in a wholemeal roll

gem (trisk), Wednesday, 25 May 2005 03:22 (twenty years ago)

Celery is wot makes V8 juice so deliciously salty-tangy.

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 25 May 2005 05:08 (twenty years ago)

that's the difference between wrong and right

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 25 May 2005 05:25 (twenty years ago)

Like I need another reason to hate peanut butter.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 25 May 2005 06:15 (twenty years ago)

I hate celery too, and I thought the two of them together would be the worst possible culinary image i would ever have. It just got worse.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 25 May 2005 06:29 (twenty years ago)

Celery and pancetta risotto is one of my favourites. You chop up the leaves and stir them in at the end. I think I made it for Alba and Porky once, long ago (although Alba had the pig-free version). Also, a bloody mary without celery salt is just not quite right.

Madchen (Madchen), Wednesday, 25 May 2005 06:50 (twenty years ago)

I have to agree with that.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 25 May 2005 06:54 (twenty years ago)

"Ooh La La" ?

quincie, Tuesday, 16 March 2010 18:50 (fifteen years ago)

Get rid of the apple and add tomato and I'd drink that right down.

ABBAcab (Trayce), Wednesday, 17 March 2010 00:43 (fifteen years ago)

I'm on board w/ Tryace. Maybe some spices of some sort.

Celery is the most disgusting vegetable. Fact.

t(o_o)t (ENBB), Wednesday, 17 March 2010 02:21 (fifteen years ago)

I wish I liked it, but it tastes bad and gets stuck between my teeth.
