3. It dropped off new answers and I can't be bothered to search.

Look at these PRETTY SHOES!

AND

http://www.atommickbrane.com/bubbles/dunlop.jpg

Sorry for excessive picture content, I know it's bad form but none of the sites where those shoes are advertised will let you link directly to the product so SCREW YOU $siteswhichishallnotadvertise. Har.

Sarah (starry), Thursday, 20 November 2003 12:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Nu Answers.

The Dunlops are only £19.99.

The boots are $170.

Hmmm.

Sarah (starry), Thursday, 20 November 2003 12:26 (twenty-one years ago)

where are the pretty boots from?

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 20 November 2003 13:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Nice boots grrr expensive. Hennes and Topshop are all still neon/black stripes which is no fun. I want a nice slouchy red jumper to go with my red shoes. Any tips?

Archel (Archel), Thursday, 20 November 2003 13:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Their make is 'Irregular Choice London' and I believe they have them in Schuh - I found that picture from Urban Outfitters though.

Sarah (starry), Thursday, 20 November 2003 13:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh god I am officially OLD here, but Archel, there's EXTREMELY nice red slouchy jumpers in (er) WALLIS at the moment!

My red shoes are BROKEN and need fixing!

Sarah (starry), Thursday, 20 November 2003 13:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes Schuh have lots of Irregular Choice, v. pretty. I like these:

Archel (Archel), Thursday, 20 November 2003 13:52 (twenty-one years ago)

There is plenty of nice stuff in Wallis if you are prepared to have a bit of a rummage.

Madchen (Madchen), Thursday, 20 November 2003 13:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Ooh Wallis hehe thanks! I will check it out.

Archel (Archel), Thursday, 20 November 2003 13:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh dear I may be drooling over Schuh all day now:

Archel (Archel), Thursday, 20 November 2003 13:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Those are great boots! I need a new pair and those would be perfect.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Thursday, 20 November 2003 13:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Those boots are really nice archel, pink & black, what a perfect combination!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 20 November 2003 13:59 (twenty-one years ago)

my clarks have finally broken in and are now supercomfy, and i've decided that white shoes are the best. seasonal color rules be damned!
i'm also in love with my new sweater - a true sea green angora with 3/4 sleeves and a cowl neck with a small jewelled starburst.

Chris B. Sure (Chris V), Thursday, 20 November 2003 14:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Not all boots are expensive! I have purchased some really nice boots from Parade of Shoes recently--plain black knee high boots (NYCers I wore them to geeta's party) with a small platform bottom and chunky heel, and white stiletto midcalf boots with a flower pattern on the side; both of these were $40 each. Also, the brown fur-trimmed boots I wore on Halloween were from Parade, and they were $60. Last time I was in there they were marked to $40. They might not last ages but chances of me not getting sick of white midcalf boots by next year: slim.

And, FWIW, all the shoes I've previously purchased from Parade have actually held up surprisingly well, and I don't take care of them at ALL (they're lucky if they end up back in boxes half the time).

Allyzay, Thursday, 20 November 2003 14:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Gasp, I note Schuh do FREE SHIPPING! What's that all about eh?? I love it!

Sarah (starry), Thursday, 20 November 2003 15:48 (twenty-one years ago)

I apologise for the size of this picture but it is URGENT AND KEY!

Sarah (starry), Thursday, 20 November 2003 15:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Mail order shoes = mentalism though as 90% of my dream shoes turn out to look like deformed potatoes when actually on my feet.

Archel (Archel), Thursday, 20 November 2003 15:52 (twenty-one years ago)

The boots are going back to the shop and I am getting those trainers instead.

Sarah (starry), Thursday, 20 November 2003 15:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Wow. Do they make them with other drinks too?

Archel (Archel), Thursday, 20 November 2003 15:58 (twenty-one years ago)

There was one with cherries or something... I am horrified to see upon checking finances that credit card has croaked and died despite my massive investment in paying it off recently. Oh dearie. Best return boots (and all clothes in favour of cardboard)...

I need more jumper advice! I am currently in a tshirt and feeling foolish.

Sarah (starry), Thursday, 20 November 2003 16:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Apparently it's all about the Minnie Mouse and Snoopy at the moment.

Archel (Archel), Thursday, 20 November 2003 16:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Surely we should be thinking about winter fashion now though?

Mary (Mary), Thursday, 20 November 2003 19:53 (twenty-one years ago)

dare I?

http://bluefly.speedera.net/zs.bluefly.com/mgen/Bluefly/prodImage.ms?productCode=0045682&width=400&height=480

it is $60 marked down from $366! Diesel! perforated silver leather!

teeny (teeny), Thursday, 20 November 2003 20:30 (twenty-one years ago)

I could wear it over my see-through miu miu dress that I can't figure out how to wear otherwise.

teeny (teeny), Thursday, 20 November 2003 20:42 (twenty-one years ago)

You are a brave little woman teeny, but I bet it would look good on ya.

I've been looking all over for hooded men's velour tracksuits, but god DANG, it's not an easy article of clothing to come by.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Thursday, 20 November 2003 20:45 (twenty-one years ago)

nickalicious appears on the fashion thread!

DUHNT DUHNT DUHNT ANOTHER ONE BITES THE DUST

teeny (teeny), Thursday, 20 November 2003 20:54 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm definitely thinking about winter fashion, and it's made me sweater-crazed. in addition to the angora beauty mentioned upthread, i am now the proud owner of a soft raspberry funnel-necked pullover that looks a bit sexy librarian-ish. let's hear it for lunchtime shopping trips!

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 20 November 2003 22:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Surely we should be thinking about winter fashion now though?

the high today was 78 degrees. I'm still wearing flip flops and tshirts.

weirdos.

A Girl Named Sam (thatgirl), Friday, 21 November 2003 05:22 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm buying this topcoat and wearing it with blue jeans and a scarf because it is who I am.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 21 November 2003 05:44 (twenty-one years ago)

It is also looking like one of those Matrix Reloaded teaser posters. COINCEDENCE? ;-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 21 November 2003 05:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Black and hot pinks been ver Done Thing in the goth scene for ages now, to the point I'm sick of it. If I see one more girl with a catfish fringe, hot pink and black PVC handbag and pink platform Swear boots, I'll scream and smash Christian Death albums over their noggins.

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 21 November 2003 05:50 (twenty-one years ago)

There's this damn X-Large brown fleece (in a good way) jacket I WANT and it's still $264. It's SUMMER! Take it down, man!

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Friday, 21 November 2003 05:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Having said that, I really want a nice cutesey comfy pair of maryjane buckle-ey shoes, and Ive no idea where to look :(

Even cooler would be red sparkly maryjanes that looked like Dorothys ruby slippers, I could wear them with stripey tights!

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 21 November 2003 05:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Lauren, where are you getting your dreamboat sweaters, you diva?

Scary Miss Mary (Mary), Friday, 21 November 2003 07:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Trayce wot is a catfish fringe?

Mary, shhh. It is still ok for me to wear a cardigan therefore it's autumn. Although fair enough, perhaps winter has started today as it's RAINING! This lunchtime I may look into legwarmers, cardigans and PIE.

Sarah (starry), Friday, 21 November 2003 12:17 (twenty-one years ago)

the green sweater came from amarcord, the froufrou italian vintage store in williamsburg. i don't usually go in, but something compelled me to browse and there it was tucked away on one of the racks at about 1/10 of the price of everything else in the shop.
the raspberry one came from... urban outfitters. oh, the shame!

lauren (laurenp), Friday, 21 November 2003 13:24 (twenty-one years ago)

i have to give my vote to the wallis contingent above...i recently discovered it and was a bit ashamed (because i thought it was a place moms shopped, or something), but they have some really nice stuff right now, especially sparkly tops for christmas parties and stuff.

which reminds me...those sparkly tops. do people actually have christmas parties that they wear them to? i tend to get them and wear with jeans to go dancing or whatever, but have to stock up at christmas. what do you wear them to?

colette (a2lette), Friday, 21 November 2003 13:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Weddings! But I will probably wear them when I go for a dance next. God knows when this will be of course for I appear to be firmly of the "sit in the pub all night" school of going out. Sparkly tops are obviously meant for dancing anyway as they are always sleeveless if not (urk) "halter" so you don't get yrself overheated!

Sarah (starry), Friday, 21 November 2003 14:31 (twenty-one years ago)

High today near 80, morning lows were in the 50s. The bad side of this is our heat/AC are controlled downtown and it seems they just flip on the heat on Nov. 1 regardless of the weather. And I have to wear long sleeves now due to my new tattoo. :( I open all my windows but we all still sweat and get cranky. boo.

A Girl Named Sam (thatgirl), Friday, 21 November 2003 17:36 (twenty-one years ago)

The Lexington weather has forced my hand and I am recently upgrading from cotton sweaters to wool ones. Wool sweater season = possibly the only time I look like I've got my shit together.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 21 November 2003 17:39 (twenty-one years ago)

wool sweaters? i only have cotton/acrylic. Thin ones. I bought one reluctantly last night since I so rarely get to wear them. It was purple-mottled and marked down to $10.

A Girl Named Sam (thatgirl), Friday, 21 November 2003 17:41 (twenty-one years ago)

i am captain wool sweater i own at least 10.

Chris B. Sure (Chris V), Friday, 21 November 2003 17:42 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm especially in the market for new hiking boots. I like these here pretty well:
http://www.mec.ca/media/Images/Products/FeatureProducts/4016184f.jpg

I've come across lots of low-top hiking boots, wtf? They're like Sport Utility Tennis Shoes! Besides, I needs me some ankle support!

x-post I'm merely private first class wool sweater with 7

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 21 November 2003 17:46 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm not sure I can express the THRILL these give me. I want them RIGHT NOW.

I don't understand jeans anymore.

jel -- (jel), Friday, 21 November 2003 17:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Trayce- does Australia have John Fluevog? I got a great little pair of black maryjanes with green flowers/birds embroidered across the toes from there. I think they also had browns. And they feel like sneakers!

lyra (lyra), Friday, 21 November 2003 18:01 (twenty-one years ago)

nickalicious, you could do worse than a pair of zamberlans.

Ed (dali), Friday, 21 November 2003 18:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Trayce wot is a catfish fringe

Its a bobcut with two very long pieces at the front, one one each side, ie lone fringe pieces. Sort of like catfish wiskers. It seems goth de riguer these days.

I dont know if we have John Fluevog - I should have a look in Chapel st sometime!

Trayce (trayce), Saturday, 22 November 2003 07:28 (twenty-one years ago)

I would like a cotton-candy pink and sweet-sugar white rugby-striped sweater. I think I saw it in a magazine, or maybe in a dream. It could be cotton or wool, Gap or Marc Jacobs. I saw something at J.Crew, but it was cashmere and short-sleeved. I would prefer long sleeved. I would like to wear this sweater with pink Converse (I don't have these yet either). If anyone sees a sweater that might work, please contact me below. Many thanks. PS: I may go to Target tomorrow.

Mary (Mary), Friday, 28 November 2003 00:45 (twenty-one years ago)

I must find me these solid toe n bum fishnets at once - the holey thing is what puts me off wearing them more often!

OMG to those legwarmer things with the ribbons! Rock the casbah! I would never wear them with those hideous brown platform sneakerboot things tho wtf. Those things need black or shiny pvb moonboots or something.

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 28 November 2003 01:05 (twenty-one years ago)

er pvc not pvb, I'm on typist crack today.

As for the catfish fringe thing, turns out my friend Nadja invented the phrase, so she claims anyhow. She didnt really invent the style - I see it around a lot - but the word for it is cool.

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 28 November 2003 01:09 (twenty-one years ago)

"fencenet" - my new favourite word, but old favourite fashion item. k-k-k-(for Dom)-rowr!

Markelby (Mark C), Friday, 28 November 2003 14:40 (twenty-one years ago)

My mom took me to the Route 1 Target today. While attempting to escape screaming kids and yelling mothers, I got: a white fisherman sweater, a gray cardigan hooded sweater, and a French girl 3 quarter length sleeve white cotton shirt with navy stripes. I also got two pairs of knee-high socks -- one gray cabled, the other black argyle, from their massive sock section. The best part though was that my mom agreed to buy me Hello Kitty bedding from the juvenile sheets department, and it comes in a bag. They also had Strawberry Shortcake and other nice character sheets.

Mary (Mary), Sunday, 30 November 2003 03:20 (twenty-one years ago)

i did the holiday target trip, too. i got a black angora-esque hoodie, a black velour hoodie, a sheer black & pink floral print bra, and a compilation cd called 'booty time'. also some new danskin exercise gear, but that's less exciting.

lauren (laurenp), Sunday, 30 November 2003 03:39 (twenty-one years ago)

i really like the mod thing for guys, but like, no jeans.. just a nice pair of dress pants, or cords and a nice dress shirt, a skinny tie(leather is recomended) and nice dressy shoes, or maybe trainers.

that and argyle.
wait, all of it. argyle and shirt and tie and dress pants and suit jacket.
thats what I'm wearing this winter.
dressing up is the new dressing down.

ge s (kissmyfist), Sunday, 30 November 2003 03:48 (twenty-one years ago)

On Thanksgiving day a bunch of the extended family and I rode four-wheelers* through a giant mudhole and I coated my Tevas in black swamp slime and grit. So I got these in black, on sale:
http://slimages.macys.com/products/2/98022.fpx?wid=214&qlt=80&ftr=10.0&cvt=jpeg
I also got a black Ralph Lauren blazer in some kind of fake suede/velour material which was only like $125.
And a bunch of ties, and a blue dress shirt.

I normally despise Hilfiger shit because I personally hate being called "Tommy" and can't imagine what sort of person would go around advertising themselves as such, but they had the best looking shoes in the department store and a lot of the best ties as well.

Costco had Haggar teflon-coated wrinkle-frees for like $14 a pair. Raided. My dad let me keep his Costco membership card, too. Got you all in check, etc.

I got nothing at Target. I was in there for like 10 seconds before heading over to COMPUSA and Circuit City.

*yeah. This was in the evening after shooting clay pigeons with shotguns and firing a potato gun at an old barn for a couple of hours, and after we finished dinner* and dessert and got into the keg of Foster's.

TOMBOT, Sunday, 30 November 2003 03:51 (twenty-one years ago)

tombot on the shopping thread! tombot on the shopping thread!

teeny (teeny), Sunday, 30 November 2003 05:46 (twenty-one years ago)

My jaw almost hit the keyboard. Wow.

I am fighting with my new tshirt today, I've washed it 3 times, and it's still a little stiff & rough. I can't use fabric softener, because I'm allergic to it. I was debating filling my sink with hot water & soaking it in there overnight, but I think it's more the washing motion that softens them than the soaking.

lyra (lyra), Sunday, 30 November 2003 06:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Did everyone go to Target? Bloody hell. I got to pick out tons of Christmas stuff there and will be receiving a black leather jacket (the matching skirt was far too long for my tastes, I am no longer about the pencil skirts but about the scandalous hoochie minis), a fuzzy ice blue turtleneck sweater, a black and red wrap blouse and...errr...I forget. Poss. the black angora hoodie mentioned above, I was playing with that a lot. I also got black legwarmers which I'm wearing now, cashmere knee socks and blue and white stripey over-the-knee socks but those I do not have to wait til Xmas to get. Then I also received from my sister a fake engagement ring to sport at bars to ward off attention!! Do people--besides, apparently, my sister--actually do this? I have to say it worked stunningly well and also is resulting in a fun "How long will it take before dad asks about this?" game for us. I also got Outkast's new album and a Fleetwood Mac greatest hits but that's neither here nor there.

Also this weekend, because I am in ARIZONA and there is nothing to do here besides GO TO THE MALL, I have spent an inordinant amount at Frederick's of Hollywood, where my sister gets a 50% discount. I am now the proud owner of a really crazy leopard print get up and SLUTTY CHRISTMAS WEAR. Also underwear and bras but I'm not sure if I like these bras? I had to buy them all in 36D!!!!! Anyone who has met me in person and seen my breasts in person will testify to the unreasonableness of this.

Then when I left Frederick's, I actually set foot in Charlotte Russe!! I havent' been there since I was like 16. SCORE for me because I picked up a strapless uneven hem leopard print dress and a satin silver halter top with sequined neck bit. My mom, strangely unphased by my purchase of some kind of whorebag santa outfit, was aghast at these purchases, which I found odd.

I also got bored enough to walk into a mall salon and get my hair done again. I need to find other things to do with my time besides murder my hair. :\

Allyzay, Sunday, 30 November 2003 08:01 (twenty-one years ago)

I hopped on the pale pink and black craze and got a stripey scarf in dublin which I love. Although I could have gotten the scarf anywhere as they have the same stores everywhere in Ireland and the UK. I actually love the pale pink. My only other purchase was a more feminized version of the olive green parka with a nice hood and a little belt from Mango, which I just realized is owned by the same people as Zara? I had to save the room in my carry on luggage for all the whisky.

Don't they sell those lobster tights at H&M? I know I have some and I know I had to have bought them there as I never invest in hosiery since I fall down and run into things a lot.

Carey (Carey), Sunday, 30 November 2003 22:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Hey, count me in, I thrifted a very icy pale pink hooded jacket to wear with my favorite black scarf. In retrospect I think it was a white jacket to begin with and the owner just tossed it in the wash with something red, and then, lucky for me, thought it was ruined - when it is actually much, much cooler this way.

I just dropped nearly $300 yesterday on bright green and bright blue sweaters, dark red pants, and some super cashmere socks as well as some argyles. I have no business spending this kind of $$ on clothes. Oh well. It could have easily been near $400. Credit card debt? everyone's doing it.

daria g (daria g), Sunday, 30 November 2003 23:55 (twenty-one years ago)

One thing I have NOT looked into since arriving in NYC is, you know, the purchasing of fashionable clothing. Because I'm poorish, so it seemed best not to get into it. But check this: I move to this city and everyone here this fall is dressed like I was when I was 14 and Smiths-obsessed, and it's killing me, so. . . . Where shall I go to procure new beautiful clothing? I'm lost without my reliable Chicago standbys. I only want to look like Rik from The Young Ones on weekends. NYC men and knowledgeable ladies: ???

nabiscothingy, Monday, 1 December 2003 00:19 (twenty-one years ago)

5th ave in brooklyn has some good stuff, like between st mark's and president street or so, if you walk down from the Atlantic/Pacific stop towards the heart of Park Slope. i got some cool women's jeans at Beacon thrift. it seems like there's some boutiques opening up there too. I was just talking to someone on the weekend about how New York doesn't really have a good cheap duds scene.

dude in London t.j. maxx is called t.k. maxxx?!

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Monday, 1 December 2003 00:24 (twenty-one years ago)

tracer is right about the lack of good thrifting, and there tends to be much more stuff for women than for men. however, there's always beacon's closet on n.11th between berry & wythe in williamsburg. it's one of the only vintage stores in nyc that i regularly browse, and they appear to have a good selection of menswear. not too pricey, considering what other vintage stores charge, and they have eagle-eyed buyers.

lauren (laurenp), Monday, 1 December 2003 00:36 (twenty-one years ago)

A nabiscothingey might enjoy Trash and Vaudeville on St. Mark's near 3rd, or Search and Destroy across the street on the second floor bit farther east. If you want to dress like the male version of me (and what guy wouldn't?) check out Metropolis on on 3rd ave. around 11th st. Paul Frank, new and used duds, etc., though a Yanceything might call you cheap -- then hit up Air Market a few blocks north on 3rd for overpriced Japanese accents. You could check out Screaming Mimi's on Lafayette near 3rd or 4th st. I never really find anything there, but that might be where the Smiths kids you are seeing are getting their clothes. For upscale vintage hie thee to Tokio 7 on East 7th and Tokyo Joe on East 11th. With any luck you'll find a Dolce & Gabanna suit in your own size. Century 21 downtown is good to look for mainstreamy stuff bargains. If you want to impress Phil, APC on Mercer St. is your place. Don't overlook Urban Outfitters, and of course, H&M.

Mary (Mary), Monday, 1 December 2003 00:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Ooo, thanks Mary! Though I should clarify I don't want to be one of the Smiths-kids: I want to declare it dead common and forge ahead. I think I could definitely stand to impress Phil (though I'd need a better eye for color), find a nicer suit (though I'd need more money), or look like the male version of you (though I'd need to get way sexier). Will follow up on these suggestions and report to next FAP looking FAPulous.

nabiscothingy, Monday, 1 December 2003 02:12 (twenty-one years ago)

I got black nail polish at Sally's Beauty Supply when I was back home and am very excited to do my pink & black franch mani.

Also, I went to the Midwestern designer outlet shopping mall from hell that I sent amateurist to last summer and got a black velvet bustier like I wanted (well actually my ideal one is made of black coq feathers but I have no idea where one would get that), two-ply unseasonable silk chiffon mosaic-print skirt to wear with black tights now and with a ladylike jacket next spring. At Designer Shoe Warehouse on Belmont near Sheffield (around the corner from Jack's on Halsted where I brunched) I got black t-strap stiletto shoes. I don't know how picked over DSW in NY is but DSW in Chicago is pretty wonderful.

Ha ha, the mother-scandalizing Charlotte Russe is wonderful but last time I went I literally could not fit into a single item of clothing there. It is wise to skip over the lingerie-inspired overpriced Jazz Age wear the magazines are pushing and proceed directly to Frederick's.

These fur collars/tippets/whatever, particularly with ribbon closings, are everywhere! ardenb.com has them in pink, black and white for $36 but they are made from genuine bugs bunny. I saw a wonderful sweater with a detachable fur turtleneck but the real fur seemed a little morbid somehow.

felicity (felicity), Monday, 1 December 2003 03:43 (twenty-one years ago)

attention ladies: if you remember that faggy light blue "cool it" jacket that I was wearing at mary's birthday dinner, they had one just like it in red with a matching skirt at tokio-7 for $20! if you're lucky its still there!

nabisco, if you go to APC, dont forget to try on the jeans. they're great. and the black/white striped sweater with the neon cuff is pretty cool too.

i want to go to the century-21 in bay ridge sometime soon, someone wanna go?

phil-two (phil-two), Monday, 1 December 2003 06:45 (twenty-one years ago)

haha felicity, how on earth can I fit into these clothes from Charlotte Russe and you cannot? You are half my size and I have the Halloween photos to prove it! They had an awesome halter top there, black with a high back (the back met the neck at the collar) but this wide open swatch...I'm all about purchasing things that require me to not wear a bra now that I apparently have to purchase frightening sizes.

Does anyone actually wear all of these initial-emblazoned shirts I'm seeing in all the mall stores? I've never actually seen a human being wearing them, but they're all over.

Allyzay, Monday, 1 December 2003 06:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Everytime I see one of those faux monogrammed sweaters, I so want one to wear on my 50's date. But I cannot bring myself to buy one. They are following us!

Mary, I forgot to tell you, but last week when I went to Loehmanns, they had some Vivienne Westwood red label sweaters in red, maroon, gold and white on the top floor. Still kind of pricey but doable. But they have the cardigan version all over ebay right now too.

Carey (Carey), Monday, 1 December 2003 10:16 (twenty-one years ago)

There is a fantastic fitted baby-blue girls biker jacket in the moped repair place I use in Wandsworth. It would make me swoon for sure.

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 1 December 2003 10:40 (twenty-one years ago)

I am crocheting a holey pink stripey scarf. It is grebt. Who needs SHOPS (er don't ask where I get the yarn from).

Sarah (starry), Monday, 1 December 2003 10:41 (twenty-one years ago)

I have one of those faux-monogrammed sweaters. I love it. It goes great with my "S" necklace and "S" bracelet. Actually I only wear two S's at a time. Otherwise too unwieldly.

aaah! i just found out that joseph on greene street is having an 85% off sale! it's been going on since 11/28, so it's probably way picked over but still might be worth a look. dreamiest classic pants and coats, supersharp and not at all stuffy.

lauren (laurenp), Tuesday, 2 December 2003 00:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Since you're such a sweet talker, Nabiscothingey, I've hidden some special fashion advice just for you down at the bottom of Fishnet: Classic or Dud?

Your tennis partner filled me in on the VW at Loehman's, Carey, but I didn't know about the VW on ebay. Off to look now. Last time under cardigan all they had was this ugly collaboration they did with some lame lingerie company or something.

The more I think about it though, I may want a red Vivienne Westwood logomania cardigan in the same way that Gareth wants a Paul Frank watch, a tie, and an '70s airplane bag.

Mary (Mary), Tuesday, 2 December 2003 03:06 (twenty-one years ago)

mmmmm. ladays.
what the fuck is up.
tell me what you wanna see on a guy this winter.
aiight?

kisssmeeee (kissmyfist), Tuesday, 2 December 2003 03:17 (twenty-one years ago)

dis donc !

I checked the VW bizness on eBay. Not much I needed, really. Considered buying a fab yellow & green vintage 50s cardigan. I have a couple already, but eh, one can always have more, especially because I seem to have collected a bunch of 3/4 sleeve jackets and need something to wear with them..

this clothing obsession is taking up way too much of my time.

daria g (daria g), Tuesday, 2 December 2003 03:54 (twenty-one years ago)

These ladies in Hong Kong seem to have the market on cheap tagged cotton VW cards. They have blue, pink, black and white -- but no red. Pink is close to red. Or maybe I should get black? Or light blue? Does anyone know how their sizing is? They have M & L -- maybe M?

Mary (Mary), Tuesday, 2 December 2003 04:25 (twenty-one years ago)

I want to get a monogrammed sweater with someone else's initial.

Allyzay, Tuesday, 2 December 2003 06:31 (twenty-one years ago)

You could go to Loehmanns, Mary, and try on the sizes. They had the cardigan version there as well a V neck and scoop.

I forgot to list my 2 Olga Kapustina frocks from the Steven Allen sample sale I got at the end of November. One is a black deep V neck babydoll sweater (it's so soft!) dress with kind of weird poofy sleeves that look like leaves to me. The other is a longer cotton (?) black dress with white... I just got tired of thinking how to decribe it.

Carey (Carey), Tuesday, 2 December 2003 13:39 (twenty-one years ago)

fashion should be exhausting!

teeny (teeny), Tuesday, 2 December 2003 13:49 (twenty-one years ago)

in the name of investigative journalism, i went by the joseph sale. bypassing a table full of the most perfect turtleneck sweaters ever (at a mere $545), i headed downstairs to the few rooms into which they'd crammed all of the marked-down crapola. as i suspected, a lot of stuff had been snapped up but there was much more than i was expecting. lots of pants in medium and small, but not too much in large (joseph sizing is 0/2 - sm, 4/6 - m, 8/10 l). some really good gray wool skirts, and lots of blazer/denim jacket kind of things in black and blue. also lots of shearling and suede coats, mostly in either small sizes or weird designs. there are really good deals on shoes, with a ton of very cute heels in black or brown suede or velvet going for $69. i came away with an amazing pair of just-under-the-knee black rough suede boots, with a very 70s oval toe and likewise 70s chunky yet pointed gray woodgrain heel. $99, down from $435.

lauren (laurenp), Tuesday, 2 December 2003 18:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Nice job, Lauren! Carey, your tennis partner did not mention that there were cardigans? Did they have red? Were they wool? I might have to do some investigate journalism of my own later this week.

Mary (Mary), Tuesday, 2 December 2003 18:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Whoa, I feel like I personally just saved so much money after reading lauren's post. Nice job. I might go try to save more money tomorrow morning at the Catherine Malandrino sample sale.

felicity (felicity), Tuesday, 2 December 2003 20:39 (twenty-one years ago)

I just completely embarassed myself at Loehmann's. With a feverish glint in my eye, I threw down my coat, hat, and bag in front of an open mirror and proceeded to try on every Vivienne Westwood sweater they had.

If you see a non-Westwood rack with a bunch of discarded, tossed aside, inside out VW sweaters on top of it, well, that's probably my fault. Women kept walking by me disdainfully, all "excuse me." They were coming from the bikini area -- why are they shopping for bikinis?

I really should have gone sooner. It was exactly what I was looking for, very light wool, and cheap. All they had left in red was a V-neck small (non-cardigan), which I ended up getting. I tried on the cardigans in white, mustard, olive, and tan, but the colors weren't really doing anything for me.

I seem to wear an S in the cardigan, in case anyone wants to get it for me, like for Christmas? like from England? It's Red Label by the way. The cashier gave me such a hard time: "Is this all you're getting? Just one little top?" Then tried to sell me a L. card and gift certificate. Um, no thank you.

Early mittenlet wearer Kieran Caulkin in Igby Goes Down.

Mary (Mary), Wednesday, 3 December 2003 01:35 (twenty-one years ago)

oh, god. i have the hugest paedo crush on him.

lauren (laurenp), Wednesday, 3 December 2003 02:03 (twenty-one years ago)

I have one on Daniel Radcliffe. It's ok.

Carey (Carey), Wednesday, 3 December 2003 03:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Really? I thought Igby was so vile. I felt sorry for Claire Danes when she had to lie in bed next to him. I didn't understand how he got Amanda Peet either.

Mary (Mary), Wednesday, 3 December 2003 05:34 (twenty-one years ago)

igby as a character is vile. kieran culkin as jailbait (see also the dangerous life of altar boys) is irresistible.

lauren (laurenp), Wednesday, 3 December 2003 14:01 (twenty-one years ago)

I haven't seen Altar Boys -- I'll check it out. When I lived in Japan I had a crush on Johnny's Junior Hideaki Takizawa (Takki).

I asked my ballerina friend about legwarmers, and she said she doesn't even really wear them! She did say scrunchy is best though.

Mary (Mary), Wednesday, 3 December 2003 19:19 (twenty-one years ago)

"Yo! You have a problem with early mittenlet adapters?"

felicity (felicity), Wednesday, 3 December 2003 19:33 (twenty-one years ago)

I went to the Salvation Army today and got a 100% Indian Cashmere cardigan for $2.99. It is a very Pringle pale blue. I am wearing it with a pale pink t-shirt now.

tokyo rosemary (rosemary), Thursday, 4 December 2003 04:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Ah yes, mittenlets. Felicity I can't remember - are there little seperate finger holes in the mittlenlets or it it one big hole? I still really want to make some!

I am wearing something boring upon which I have just spilled a glass of water.

I am cool!

Sarah (starry), Thursday, 4 December 2003 13:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Mine have one thumbhole and an opening for the rest of the paw; otherwise, glovelets.

Starry I must remember to email you the action photos of you knitting and then modeling your sparkly goth legwarmers.

felicity (felicity), Thursday, 4 December 2003 15:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Ah, yes please! Just remove the dashes in my email address!

Sarah (starry), Thursday, 4 December 2003 15:22 (twenty-one years ago)

I've changed that actually.

Sarah (starry), Thursday, 4 December 2003 15:23 (twenty-one years ago)

three months pass...
Youre fashion line that I have just looked at is nice and a little funky but it needs more funky stuff to it! Get creative. If Britany Spears asks you to make her somthing for her next vidio or concert just imagine what she would make you make for her do somthing like that! GET FUNKY!!!!!
