Silverlink Metro (North London Line) Loves The Cock!

Is there a trainline anywhere worse than it? Every train is at least 5 minutes delayed it seems. And Homerton station has rats everywhere that come out of the grass onto the platform. Big nasty fat rats! In my opinion the worst commuting experience ever.

Replace it with bendy busses, then you'll really have something to complain about!

Citizen Kate (kate), Friday, 21 November 2003 13:23 (twenty-two years ago)

i've never had a big problem with it tho i've only used it for occasional leisure journeys rather than commuting. i like the views of North London you get along the way. There should be an interchange with North Acton though.

I saw rats along the track under the platform at West Hampstead

stevem (blueski), Friday, 21 November 2003 13:25 (twenty-two years ago)

ACtually, is the Silverlink the one that goes from Finchley & Frognal through Kentish Town to Islington? That train sucks cock! It's actually quicker to take the tube back down to Kings Cross and out the Metropolitan Line than to wait for the Silverlink.

Citizen Kate (kate), Friday, 21 November 2003 13:26 (twenty-two years ago)

(Unrelated, but Stevem reminded me - there is a FOX that lives on the platform of the Blackheath overground station!)

Citizen Kate (kate), Friday, 21 November 2003 13:27 (twenty-two years ago)

say what? the Silvelink is much quicker than the tube route!

stevem (blueski), Friday, 21 November 2003 13:28 (twenty-two years ago)

The Pinefox?

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Friday, 21 November 2003 13:29 (twenty-two years ago)

No, it looked more like a Stelfox. ;-)

Citizen Kate (kate), Friday, 21 November 2003 13:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah its that train Kate. It is terrible. My friend who commutes on it sometimes (i thankfully no longer have to use this train very often) once saw a human poo in the carriage, this was in the morning rush hour too, and no one said anything, people just avoided stepping in it and went about their silent journey to work.

Bob Shaw (Bob Shaw), Friday, 21 November 2003 13:31 (twenty-two years ago)

I used to do the Silverstink a few years back. Not nice is it? I did Hackney Cantral in the mornings and my favourite was when on a rainy day, the wee cabin on the platform was rammed with the sweating bodies of unconcious pissheads, the collective smell of vomit, piss and Special Brew pungent enough to ensure that even if there was room to get a foot in, entry to the aforementioned cabin out of the rain came at the risk of bringing your breakfast up onto the concourse.

Alex K (Alex K), Friday, 21 November 2003 13:32 (twenty-two years ago)

No, Kate is probably right, because Silverlink (NORTH LONDON LINE) is erratic and never shows up. But used to be a a fare dodgers dream (though increasingly not the case I think.

If it had tube regularity trains it could be really, really useful.

Pete (Pete), Friday, 21 November 2003 13:32 (twenty-two years ago)

the moral? just use it only now and then like me and you'll be fine

stevem (blueski), Friday, 21 November 2003 13:34 (twenty-two years ago)

I hate it and avoid using it wherever possible (it's occasionally useful for my off-peak journeys from Dalston to Kew but otherwise the overcrowding and waiting times are just not tolerable).

Fare dodgers liked it because of the widespread absence of gates - now changed.

David (David), Friday, 21 November 2003 13:34 (twenty-two years ago)

the moral? just use it only now and then like me and you'll be fine

No! The moral is, use it often to know its timetable cause if you use it not very frequently, you'll spend forever waiting for a train.

Citizen Kate (kate), Friday, 21 November 2003 13:36 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah the trains are only every 15 minutes. it still is a fare dodgers dream in some places, but about one a month they'll have ticket inspectors about.

Bob Shaw (Bob Shaw), Friday, 21 November 2003 13:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Pete OTM, though. It is such a useful route - if only they could bring it up to scratch!

Citizen Kate (kate), Friday, 21 November 2003 13:38 (twenty-two years ago)

just check the timetable online in advance

stevem (blueski), Friday, 21 November 2003 13:39 (twenty-two years ago)

The time it takes to check online = means you have just missed one and the next one ain't along for an hour.

Pete (Pete), Friday, 21 November 2003 13:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Are they going to do it up if London wins the Olympics?

Daniel (dancity), Friday, 21 November 2003 14:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Used to commute from Highbury to N. Woolwich on this one. NOT GOOD - the epic journey time of 2 and a half hours from Walthamstow to Woolwich SPEAKS FOR ITSELF.

Sarah (starry), Friday, 21 November 2003 14:16 (twenty-two years ago)

you should have got the bus to Hackney central Starry, it might have cut a bit off that

chris (chris), Friday, 21 November 2003 14:37 (twenty-two years ago)

It was horrifically when we got to Stratford that the Real Problems started. I also managed to get lost at Canary Wharf - ended up going to Greenwich and getting a train from there.

Sarah (starry), Friday, 21 November 2003 14:39 (twenty-two years ago)

I haven't used it regularly for years, I used to go to school on it. It sounds like it hasn't got much better. My train would be cancelled every other day. Also, east of Stratford nowadays its only one train every half hour.

They should totally carry the Oympic flame on it. There would be carnage!
