And talk about In the Cut too plz!! (a movie where i actually forgot Meg Ryan was Meg Ryan) I mean this guy is something else! Benecio del Toro's the closest I can think to this guy, but he's even better, in this at least, he's more complex, there's something glittering back there, like he's got post-traumatic stress syndrome underneath all the tough shit (wouldn't YOU?? jeez)

I never read "To the Lighthouse" but I think I was supposed to in college.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Monday, 1 December 2003 00:12 (twenty-one years ago)

From imdb comments: "This is, possibly, the worst movie I have paid money to see in the theatre. Ever."

Mark Ruffalo

(that's a good thing)

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Monday, 1 December 2003 00:55 (twenty-one years ago)

See him in XX/XY. He makes doofy idiot guy believeable. And we know they don't exist in real life.

In The Cut made me forget Meg Ryan was Meg ryan. I was just going who is this idiot woman who is sexually interested exclusively in murder suspects.

Pete (Pete), Monday, 1 December 2003 13:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Who else would a repressed Freudian lit professor go for?

I'm quite interested in seeing more of Mr. Ruffalo but I'm afraid that I might not like him de-moustached.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Monday, 1 December 2003 13:26 (twenty-one years ago)

The interior of the Baby Doll lounge is the real interior btw.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Monday, 1 December 2003 13:26 (twenty-one years ago)

XX/XY has droopy moustache AND sans moustache so nu-Burt Reynolds vs new Paul Newman debate occurs within same filum.

I heart Ruffalo and all, but in any given year he's more than likely part of the 1-percent, not the 99.

Kiarostami bag (milo z), Monday, 3 October 2011 05:02 (thirteen years ago)

So?

Rich guy cares about people less rich than him. Man, what a phony.

Science, you guys. Science. (DL), Monday, 3 October 2011 13:35 (thirteen years ago)

I just found it amusing, that a millionaire (even with his heart in the right place) doesn't realize where he sits economically. It's sort of that "I make $250k/year, I'm middle class!" thing.

Kiarostami bag (milo z), Monday, 3 October 2011 14:42 (thirteen years ago)

Did he ever say that? I mean, it's not like Warren Buffett chilling down on the bridge but he's not denying his own wealth, either.

I can't remember how the 99%/1% looks numbers-wise, but while Ruffalo is most likely rich, he's not in the same league as the Wall Street execs. I wonder if he's even a billionaire. Even so, it would have made some sense to acknowledge that he was in a very well-off stratum of the 99%.

But yeh, I'm still in love with him too.

Je55e, Monday, 3 October 2011 14:53 (thirteen years ago)

The point is less "we are all poor" and more "the obscenely rich haven't had to give up anything"; you can lead an extremely comfortable life on a low 6-figure income but that doesn't mean that economic randomness hasn't made you give up some things, some of which may not even be luxuries (specifically, a lot of folks in the low 6-figure income bracket are ripe candidates for getting laid off, which is going to have a drastic impact on your life even with a sizable savings cushion).

"Oh he's a millionaire" scoffing misses that he's a contract employee whose incoming salary is dependent on landing parts in a notoriously fickle industry and whose only real basis for long-term economic stability is to put his money at the mercy of the people currently being protested against for turning other people's money into their money. He has just as much a stake in this as someone making $22K in a restaurant and brushing him off or painting him as "other" reinforces the shallowness point he makes early on in his article.

I wonder if he's even a billionaire.

HAH! While actors can make a lot of money, you're still looking at probably $300 million or less net worth for a Tom Cruise, let alone a Mark Ruffalo.

the only billionaire actor I can think of is Oprah, and she didn't become a billionaire by acting

i don't think it's really necessary for mark ruffalo to be like "DISCLAIMER: I'M A RICH ACTOR"

Nicolas Cage had little to no cash on hand within the last two years! Bad accounting and horrible money management.
