FAP Feb 26th?

My last FAP proper, apart from 30 minutes in a little boozer behind Oxford Street (on the day the Kraftwerk album came out!) and a brief appearance at the N.Southall FAP in the summer, my last FAP was the blizzard FAP in Jan 03. So - I want to get back FAPing and meet everyone again.
I realise that calling for a FAP 2 weeks in advance is ridiculous, but I can't make tonight or Friday and various other stuff rules out most of next week, so what about Thursday Feb 26th? Somewhere with a Bar Billiard table would be good (a solid Glasshouse Stores FAP would be perfect), but please God not that horrible karaoke place near Goodge Street!

So, subject to due clearance from the FAP committee, FAP Feb 26th?

Dr. C (Dr. C), Wednesday, 11 February 2004 20:45 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm there. Totally.

dean! (deangulberry), Wednesday, 11 February 2004 20:48 (twenty-two years ago)

What planet is this on again?

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 11 February 2004 20:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Glasshouse sounds fine, should be there

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 11 February 2004 20:53 (twenty-two years ago)

I look forward to it, Doc.

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Wednesday, 11 February 2004 20:53 (twenty-two years ago)

I expect I'll be there - it'll be great to see you again!

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 11 February 2004 21:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Yay! (look, they *remember* me)

Dr. C (Dr. C), Wednesday, 11 February 2004 21:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Of course we do. (I'll have to see if I've been paid before I commit to coming out, sorry Doktor)

Anna (Anna), Wednesday, 11 February 2004 21:05 (twenty-two years ago)

sounds good to me dr c. glasshouse stores sounds good, too.

toby (tsg20), Wednesday, 11 February 2004 21:42 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm not coming. Sorry. I've changed my mind. My hair is going to be totally dirty that night.

dean! (deangulberry), Wednesday, 11 February 2004 21:43 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm not convinced I am going to live to see the 26th, but if I do, I'm there.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 12 February 2004 10:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Stevem Plot To Assassinate Matt DC Uncovered

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 12 February 2004 10:38 (twenty-two years ago)

I knew there was a reason behind that sharp suit the other day... meeting with the Mob, was it?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 12 February 2004 10:49 (twenty-two years ago)

yes, apparently you are to sleep with some fishes, it says here

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 12 February 2004 10:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Me please Dr C!

Sarah (starry), Thursday, 12 February 2004 11:29 (twenty-two years ago)

the next time there is any faffing about on a FAP thread i will point people here as this is exactly how to do it, say when and where and brook no argument :)

provided i'm not next on stevem's hitlist after matt i'll be there i guess :)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 12 February 2004 14:52 (twenty-two years ago)

In an ideal world, FAP threads have one post stating time and place. The only other posts are to say who's coming and not coming.

Dave B (daveb), Thursday, 12 February 2004 15:39 (twenty-two years ago)

The random digressions are the best thing about FAP threads, you menko. This one, for example.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 12 February 2004 15:42 (twenty-two years ago)

MDC is entirely OTM.

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Thursday, 12 February 2004 15:46 (twenty-two years ago)

digressions are good of course, as they keep the thread on new answers, as long as the PLACE and DATE are sorted out nice and early (in my humble opinion)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 12 February 2004 15:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Rockist!

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Thursday, 12 February 2004 15:50 (twenty-two years ago)

[note to steering committee, add "blackball the nipper" to next agenda]

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 12 February 2004 15:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Bah. UR ARE ALL LIBERAL FUXORS!

Richard 'big dick' M. Nixon (daveb), Thursday, 12 February 2004 17:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Note : I am *looking forward* to this. Are the following likely to appear - Pinefox, Tico, Ptee, Sinkah??

Dr. C (Dr. C), Monday, 16 February 2004 20:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Some foax may wish to note that there's an MJ Hibbett gigge on this night as well at the 12 Bar Club on Denmark Street...

Sarah (starry), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 12:00 (twenty-two years ago)

IMPORTANT THING!

I went to the GHS before the Friday night FAP and the bar billiards table is BROKEN! There's a note on it which says "really, totally broken" to remove any ambiguity. It looks like someone tried to wrench the top bit from the rest of the table.

I've never felt such immeasurable grief for an inanimate object before, but that table in a very small way changed my life.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 12:06 (twenty-two years ago)

I felt like my daemon had been wrenched away from me when I first saw the loss of the bar billiards table in the Head of Steam (bastards).

Sarah (starry), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 12:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Tweeist.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 12:13 (twenty-two years ago)

No, I think I'll steeeeeick.

Sarah (starry), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 12:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Maybe we should club together to get it fixed.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 12:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Is there anutha bar-billiards venue around?

Dr. C (Dr. C), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 12:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Horse & Groom, Great Portland St perhaps?

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 13:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Unless that one's been broken as well. There could be someone with a huge hate-on for bar billiards going about vandalising the tables of central London.

Andy Weatherall and Keiran Hebden are DJ'ing that night at Electrowerkz, too (plus other people and some live stuff, but I've forgotten them all). Dilemma!

cis (cis), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 13:14 (twenty-two years ago)

can't really do the club thang on a schoolnight sadly, shame as it sounds good

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 13:15 (twenty-two years ago)

I am googling for a list of bar billiards tables.

I am doing this instead of going to lunch.

I am a menko.

Apparently the Mall Tavern at Notting Hill has one, as well as THE WELLINGTON down Waterloo way, hein?! I don't recall one on the occasion I went there (quite a while ago I admit, hem hem).

Sarah (starry), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 13:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Stevem, have you not phoned the Horse & Groom yet to check whether their bar billiards table is in working order? I'm disappointed in you.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 13:20 (twenty-two years ago)

I am free.

Pete (Pete), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 13:47 (twenty-two years ago)

http://images.google.com/images?q=tbn:r7TZ4nzVbuMJ:www.somabooks.com/bk_aybs.jpg

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 13:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Well if we can find out about a bb table that definitely exists that would be good, otherwise stick to the GHS without one...

Starry - was this the Wellington on the corner of the Strand and Wellington Street? If so, I've been in there at least once a week since September 1985 and it's never had a bb table!! Hang on though... is it that place down Walworth Road that used to have Mod bands playing waayyy back? Could be a good FAP venue - also a chance to visit the FISHCOTEQUE!

Dr. C (Dr. C), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 13:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Aye, it's that place right opposite the Jubilee line exit at Waterloo, didn't some of us head to Alang's birthday do over there? I can't remember seeing a table there, I must say! Let's stick to the GHS for now, I don't recall the pub being entirely pleasant but ISTR I wasn't feeling too well that day either.

FISHCO = YUMMERS

Sarah (starry), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 13:59 (twenty-two years ago)

I think we should stick with the Glasshouse Stores to save confusion, and because its a good pub.

Also, they might actually have the table repaired by then.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 14:01 (twenty-two years ago)

yeh Glasshouse is fine with me, not too bothered about the BB either way

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 14:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Yus. GHS it is. (Near recd shoppes too...)

Dr. C (Dr. C), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 14:47 (twenty-two years ago)

MJ Hibbett on at 9 apparently, so few jars in GHS and then on to 12bar i think :)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 20 February 2004 14:06 (twenty-two years ago)

i hate it when you guys speak what looks to be english, and i can't understand you!

steve, what does that mean?

colette (a2lette), Friday, 20 February 2004 14:16 (twenty-two years ago)

It means MJ HIBBETT is on at 12 BAR and will be BLUDDY GRATE, obv. Honestly... GURLS!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 20 February 2004 14:18 (twenty-two years ago)

what's an mj hibbett? where's the 12 bar? why do i feel like aja?

colette (a2lette), Friday, 20 February 2004 14:23 (twenty-two years ago)

An MJ HIBBET is a POP MUSICIAN. The 12 Bar is off Denmark Street.

Ricardo (RickyT), Friday, 20 February 2004 14:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Maybe....< dramatic music >

You are Aja...

Dave B (daveb), Friday, 20 February 2004 14:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Colette has already accused me of being Aja. This is divine retribution.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 20 February 2004 14:26 (twenty-two years ago)

You're going to play Dance Dance Revolution, aren't you?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 16:49 (twenty-two years ago)

sounds great to me! also - in DDR Extreme two people can in fact dance the SAME SONG but to DIFFERENT DIFFICULTY SETTINGS at the same time!! Amazing.

I'm a bit out of practice too really *sob* the good old days... meet at las vegas sometime after 5?

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 16:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah - thank goodness eh? That's a GRATE feature, I could play with my beginner friend but without boring meself to death too! I found Little Bitch really hard when I played it again! I am rusty at reading the arrows but I soon got back into it, heh heh...

Yeah, Las Vegas 5.15 5.20ish is good - they've moved the sodding machine back to the window though which is a pain. I wish they wouldn't stick all the rhythm action games together, as if someone is playing one right next to the other, the louder one TOTALLY drains everything else out, viz the Para Para machine and that odd Korean one (which is shit).

Sarah (starry), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 16:52 (twenty-two years ago)

I'll be in the GHS 6.30-7.00 ish.

Dr. C (Dr. C), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 16:54 (twenty-two years ago)

so you kids are going to be jumping about like LOONS whilst i sit in the pub on me own (well for 10 minutes until matt turns up).

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 16:59 (twenty-two years ago)

should be there for 8

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 17:00 (twenty-two years ago)

You can come and laughplay Steve!

Sarah (starry), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 17:02 (twenty-two years ago)

you laffing at me if i do play more like like.

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 17:04 (twenty-two years ago)

I'll be there early, Steve - probably 5.30ish.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 18:30 (twenty-two years ago)

probably drop in before chicks on speed

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 18:31 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm very unhappy about this, but I don't think I can make it cos of a work saga that I won't go into. I am really looking forward to sinking a pint with the Dr again but it won't be tomorrow, most likely. Back into ILE exile now but I didn't want him thinking I was snubbing him.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 22:19 (twenty-two years ago)

i'll never get that Ratpure CD! :(

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 23:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Errk, the minute Ken gets back from the exotic Orient, he starts luring young ladies into unspeakable acts of dancing revolution. Madness.

I shall probably be there for 6 or so. Grab a big worm/table, early birds! Or just move downstairs when they open it.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Thursday, 26 February 2004 09:15 (twenty-two years ago)

I feel utterly shite this morning and if I'm still feeling like this in the afternoon than 6.00 bouzing is out of the question I think. I'll probably make it along for about 8.30 though.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 26 February 2004 09:23 (twenty-two years ago)

i *might* go and get a haircut before coming to the pub...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 26 February 2004 09:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Where is the nearest ear-barber to the Glasshouse, though?

Sarah (starry), Thursday, 26 February 2004 09:43 (twenty-two years ago)

oh dear...

...goes and hides...

...i'd entirely forgotten you were fiddling with my ears the other night...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 26 February 2004 09:50 (twenty-two years ago)

im actually a little bit tempted now, though really i shouldnt

gareth (gareth), Thursday, 26 February 2004 10:04 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm not coming, sadly. I haven't seen my best mate for weeks since he got back together with his gf, so we're catching up this evening.

Keep your eyes peeled for my new thread, though...

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 26 February 2004 10:11 (twenty-two years ago)

I'll be there after roadying for a Jazz band.

Pete (Pete), Thursday, 26 February 2004 10:16 (twenty-two years ago)

I have need of MUCH beer. And Bar Billiards.

Dr. C (Dr. C), Thursday, 26 February 2004 11:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Am just sagging off work - will be at the boozer, via recd shops etc at around 6.30. Looking forward to seeling everyone....

Dr. C (Dr. C), Thursday, 26 February 2004 15:45 (twenty-two years ago)

I cannot WAIT for bouzes.

Sarah (starry), Thursday, 26 February 2004 16:13 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm aiming for about 8 now... Steve and I are going for a romantic meal first.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 26 February 2004 16:15 (twenty-two years ago)

awwww!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 26 February 2004 16:17 (twenty-two years ago)

bless, should i buy a hat?

i'm torn between HAIRCUT and BOUZE, bouze winning so far...

...but i do need a haircut...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 26 February 2004 16:27 (twenty-two years ago)

I have Swiss Army Knife scissors Steve. Haircut while you drink!

Liz :x (Liz :x), Thursday, 26 February 2004 16:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh gosh of course bouze wins. I am counting the minutes...

Ken are you still on for DDR?

Sarah (starry), Thursday, 26 February 2004 16:42 (twenty-two years ago)

yup! see you at las vegas. I'm leaving in 5 mins.

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 26 February 2004 16:50 (twenty-two years ago)

i'll be leaving work soon, might try to buy some shoes first, there about 6:30 i guess?

toby (tsg20), Thursday, 26 February 2004 16:59 (twenty-two years ago)

have just arranged to go home for 9:30 dinner though, so i'll only stay for a couple of hours...

toby (tsg20), Thursday, 26 February 2004 17:04 (twenty-two years ago)

It was a good FAP, and I was delighted to see Dr C again - the only downside of which was that after a good run of victories on the bar billiards table, Dr C crushed me utterly. For those who know the game, you'll understand that I knew I was being put in my place when his first time at the table was a break of 1400 - I was never in it.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 27 February 2004 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Hooray for the good doctor! It was grand to sit at the same table as him!

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Friday, 27 February 2004 00:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Great to be fapping again. The night's never blinking long enough. I love you all.

Dr. C (Dr. C), Friday, 27 February 2004 08:22 (twenty-two years ago)

JtN and PFox : I think we were talking 'bout THIS : http://www.freakytrigger.co.uk/stockholm.html

Dr. C (Dr. C), Friday, 27 February 2004 08:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Peter: this obituary -- as well as being a rather touching elegy to a singer, of the kind The Pinefox might have mocked up one wet Wednesday afternoon -- suggests that 'Tuppence Coloured' was a theatrical revue (review?), ie a collection of sketches and standalone songs.

Doc - I will read that this morning.

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Friday, 27 February 2004 08:46 (twenty-two years ago)

JtN, that name probably comes from the old kids toy that featured a cardboard theatre that cost a penny plain (which you coloured in yourself) or a tuppenny coloured. You then acted out plays using cut out actors on sticks.

please ignore me if I'm teaching you to suck eggs here of course.

chris (chris), Friday, 27 February 2004 09:18 (twenty-two years ago)

No doubt the eggs you would teach me to suck would be those of an ostrich or a barn owl, Cabs :)

'Tuppence Coloured' was something we saw an old poster for in the GHS last nite - based on the illustration (a rakish roué with a cup and saucer/a couple of ladies with misaligned lips) we were wondering what kind of production it could have been.

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Friday, 27 February 2004 10:11 (twenty-two years ago)

re:bar billiards

Question - what happens if both players are on 0 points at the final ball, and one player hits the black peg and the ball goes in? Does that result in a draw?

ken c (ken c), Friday, 27 February 2004 10:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Haha yes, what is the answer? It only applies to incompetents such as me and Ken, but there you go.

Still, Dr C and Martin: Bar billiards wizards, there's got to be a twist, bar billiards wizards, ooh they've got supple wrists.

Minor ruin this morning, cleared up fairly rapidly by pretty snow and fresh air.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Friday, 27 February 2004 11:15 (twenty-two years ago)

i was better at DDR i think. starry and i kicked ass! we had an AUDIENCE watching outside the las vegas windows despite the freezing cold!

ken c (ken c), Friday, 27 February 2004 11:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Did you wear your long coat? It's not the same unless Ken's tails are flying.

Madchen (Madchen), Friday, 27 February 2004 11:40 (twenty-two years ago)

not yesterday unfortunately - it had my new iPod in it so i thought i best not break the harddrive in it within the first week of ownership!!

ken c (ken c), Friday, 27 February 2004 11:54 (twenty-two years ago)

and the lack of practice is apparent, can't even manage two 360 turns in a row anymore! Most go again someday soon.

ken c (ken c), Friday, 27 February 2004 12:00 (twenty-two years ago)

One grebt pub thing: JtN worrying about not knowing how Liverpool were getting on, and inquiring for news from recent arrivals -- then suddenly next door I found the game on TV, keenly viewed by two young Japanese rockers. 2-0! Gerrard and... Carragher stroking the ball around! The Kop cheering!

Cabbage must have enjoyed it too?

the beebfox, Friday, 27 February 2004 14:17 (twenty-two years ago)

(I was truly heartwarmed seeing the picture of Gerrard and Gerard hugging on the back of the Guardian this morning.)

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Friday, 27 February 2004 14:33 (twenty-two years ago)

the two goals were preceeded by an internminable 70 minutes of stroking the ball around, it was like a toothless version of the early eighties side, it was kind of hypnotic, they held posession for absolutely ages but went nowhere. Owen dropping into his own half regularly and Henchoz having no idea how to pass forwards. But hey, in the end they were two cracking goals, especially Kewell's. But as JtN pointed out, it was fantastic to see young Stevie run straight to big Ged and give him a big hug. An dthe Kop were most definitely singing Big Ged's name.

sad I missed the FAP, but glad I saw the game

chris (chris), Friday, 27 February 2004 14:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Sounds more like the mid-90s side!

the bluefox, Friday, 27 February 2004 14:40 (twenty-two years ago)

no, the posession was too good (i.e. they weren't losing it every two minutes), at times if you squinted you could see perms emerging and the shorts getting higher.

One thing they need to remember is that there is not much point in playing it into Owen's feet with his back to goal and two platyers marking him. Also Steve Finnan and Carragher were woefully underutilised despite them getting into some very tasty forward positions.

I will be a very very happy man when Carragher finally breaks his duck.

chris (chris), Friday, 27 February 2004 14:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Liz, I do not warrant mentioning in the same sentence as Dr C when it comes to bar billiards (or maybe anything else) unless that sentence is along the lines of "Dr C crushed Martin at bar billiards." He's in a different class from me.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 27 February 2004 18:30 (twenty-two years ago)
