I gotta say, last night's episode featuring ODB was classic. Tyra Banks is mighty clever. Somehow, you actually begin to CARE about these people. What is happening to my brain?

Helen, Thursday, 26 February 2004 05:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Too much tv

Aja (aja), Thursday, 26 February 2004 05:49 (twenty-two years ago)

But even in the glut of dumb, dumb, DUMB, television, this show stands out in the reality genre. And it's about frickin' MODELS. But she doesn't just pick the prettiest ones, she picks awkward and even homely girls who come into their beauty, and sadly there you are in front of your TV rooting for them to be a model. Yes, you're rooting for them to BE A MODEL.

Helen, Thursday, 26 February 2004 05:52 (twenty-two years ago)

I like Shandi

Aja (aja), Thursday, 26 February 2004 05:53 (twenty-two years ago)

SEE! You develop certain feelings for them. You don't watch them as objects left to entertain you with their utter stupidty, you start to connect with them! Why is that? And how are they doing this to us? Is it just good editing?

Helen, Thursday, 26 February 2004 05:56 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't know.

Last time my favorite was Elise, or however you spell her name.

Aja (aja), Thursday, 26 February 2004 05:57 (twenty-two years ago)

And last time my favorite was the girl who won. (Whose name I forget) Maybe it's the questions the producers ask that reveal likeable layers of the girls, whereas most shows like the reality characters to be one-dimensional and only focus on that as "their character." Maybe that's why it's different, and I'm a total sucker and fall for it.

Helen, Thursday, 26 February 2004 06:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Adrian was my second favorite. That's the one who won.

I didn't really like Shannon at all.

What was the name of the oldest one, the one they all hated? The really Christian one?

Aja (aja), Thursday, 26 February 2004 06:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Ohhhh...I can't remember. But she was perfectly cast. It created drama and revealed so much about the girs/characters/cast, whatever they are. It was pretty revolutionary to have a bible-thumping "peaceful" Christian get so quickly denounced on regular televion, as were the talks about God and religion. I bet certain conversations would be cut now, given the show's higher ratings and the newfound facism the nation is under.

Helen, Thursday, 26 February 2004 06:13 (twenty-two years ago)

They travled more last season.

Aja (aja), Thursday, 26 February 2004 06:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Yo: America's next Next Top Model!

Also, Television Can Heal You Black Emperor!

Leee = y'know... whitey (Leee), Thursday, 26 February 2004 18:52 (twenty-two years ago)

three weeks pass...
GO YOANNA

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 20:46 (twenty-two years ago)

one year passes...
So last season's ANTM just finished on British TV. Oh no! What were they thinking? Eva should never have won; she was a great catwalk model but she fell down on almost every other area, inculding being a nice, easy-going person.

Yaya was a spoilt, flawed and limited princess; Amanda was great, beautiful, unique looking but, um, blind; Norelle was just too ditzy and couldn't actually walk in heels; and Nicole was a good overall performer, and bright too, but just didn't excel enough. The last three were easily my favourites, though (I liked Cassie too, especially when they measured her 39" hips, bless).

I wonder when the next season will start?

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 7 April 2005 11:54 (twenty-one years ago)

My favorites were Nicole, Norelle, Toccara, Yaya and Eva, so I was actually pretty happy with the result. Eva appears to be MUCH happier and easier to deal with now (although I guess it's easy to be nice after you've won, ha).

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 7 April 2005 12:10 (twenty-one years ago)

oh, god. i got totally sucked into this. i laughed (when amanda lost her crystals), i cried (when toccara talked about her tough home life), etc etc.

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 7 April 2005 12:16 (twenty-one years ago)

and i was totally grossed out by ropey, skanky, st.tropezed, trout-pouted old angie dickinson.

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 7 April 2005 12:18 (twenty-one years ago)

oops. i mean janice dickinson! jeez, what a typo.

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 7 April 2005 12:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Hahah Lauren OTM about The Tit-inflated Zombie and about Amanda's crystals. The question is, though, which model could you imagine yourself dating?

(me: Nicole)

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 7 April 2005 14:04 (twenty-one years ago)

I think I could see myself dating all of them except for Amanda and Magdalena! Preferably at the same time. Rowr.

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 7 April 2005 14:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Isn't Eva dating Missy?

Leon WK (Ex Leon), Thursday, 7 April 2005 14:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh wait, what was the name of the girl who wore the flag as her prom dress? I wouldn't date her.

mmm Eva Yaya Norelle Nicole Tocarra Kelli Ann i love you...

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 7 April 2005 14:12 (twenty-one years ago)

the one that really bothered me (aside from janice) was jennipher.

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 7 April 2005 14:13 (twenty-one years ago)

I read the spoilers on television without pity so i knew who won before it started. I felt like kicking the tv everytime YaYa opened her mouth.

leigh (leigh), Thursday, 7 April 2005 14:17 (twenty-one years ago)

if she's so worried about being judged on her intellect, modelling probably isn't the best career choice.

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 7 April 2005 14:18 (twenty-one years ago)

If she wasn't irritating as hell and her name was JenniFer, I would consider sating her.

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 7 April 2005 14:20 (twenty-one years ago)

No-one had better reveal anything about the 2005 series on this thread...

Ann was just such a slut (in the old sense), as well as being a dumb, fickle bitch. She'd have been perfect.

I liked Nigel, the noted fashion photographer. I'd like him to do my wedding. However, I want Danilo to drown in a vat of mascara.

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 7 April 2005 14:21 (twenty-one years ago)

(omg worst typo ever)

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 7 April 2005 14:21 (twenty-one years ago)

i liked anne. she reminded me of girls i played lacrosse with who looked like total wasp nightmares but actually wanted to sneak into the maintenance tunnels and smoke joints instead of running laps.

xpost - (omg, i wondered if that was intentional)

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 7 April 2005 14:24 (twenty-one years ago)

i liked Nigel till i noticed he was wearing more make up last night than janice dickenson. Plus he sounds identical to Ed O'Brien which threw me a little first time i heard him speak.

leigh (leigh), Thursday, 7 April 2005 14:26 (twenty-one years ago)

best typo ever.

carly (carly), Thursday, 7 April 2005 14:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Sating them is an entirely different thing to dating them.

What were your favourite moments from the series then?

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 7 April 2005 14:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Omg Eva's surname is Pigford???

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 7 April 2005 14:41 (twenty-one years ago)

From the NY daily news:

Missy Elliott's rep is firing back at rumors the rapper is more than just friends with beautiful "America's Next Top Model" winner Eva Pigford.

"[Syndicated radio host] Wendy Williams has basically linked all of my clients together," says Mona Scott, who manages both Elliott and Pigford. "She's a gossip-monger and does this stuff for ratings and so listeners will tune in."

Our spy sat near the rapper and the model at the Beacon Theater during a recent performance of "Madea Goes to Jail."

"Missy kept scolding her, and Eva kept apologizing for things," laughs the snitch. "Missy told her to get her feet off the chair, and Eva was like, 'I'm sorry, babe.' Missy also told her not to sign any more autographs and to just chill."

Says Scott, "I was there for all of these events, and it was basically me taking two clients out."

So I hope we cleared that up!

Leon WK (Ex Leon), Thursday, 7 April 2005 14:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Favorite moments:

Kelli telling a roomful of people about how she has a monkey snout and Eva, Yaya and Tyra all going "OH NO SHE DIDN'T" and Tyra thinking "Just for that, I'm going to turn the screws on you" and saying, "I bet that snout is going to make you famous!"

Every time Julie spoke. I am sorry, Julie, for forgetting your name in my list; you are AWESOME.

The makeovers and Amanda's subsequent vogueing.

Eva jumping up and down after winning a challenge and saying, "Ha ha, take that you tall bitches!" and watching all of the tall bitches who had just been giving her the gasface re: her shortness snarl inside.

Cassie confiding in Amanda and Amanda diming her out. Haha!

Crystalgate! AWESOME!

(xpost: So they have a polyamorous lesbian relationship???)

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 7 April 2005 14:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Last season was a disaster!

This season, and this doesn't qualify as a spoiler, I swear to Tyra, has like a million sob stories.

Leeeter van den Hoogenband (Leee), Thursday, 7 April 2005 15:48 (twenty-one years ago)

BUT... should I get the sesason 1 DVD?

Leeeter van den Hoogenband (Leee), Thursday, 7 April 2005 15:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Last season was awesome (because I was in love with most of the models)!

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 7 April 2005 15:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Yaya should've won, esp. if they really wanted a diva.

Léèê (Leee), Thursday, 7 April 2005 15:56 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm with Lee on this one -- season three was a disaster. The models were fairly incompetent right up until the very end, and they tried EVERYTHING to make Ann into some semblance of an actual model.

Also, the season three girls looked more like ordinary girls and less modelesque (sorry for that semi-derogatory comment, and my apologies to the 99.99% of "ordinary" women out there -- but the whole point of the show is to find that 0.01% and turn them into models). In these respects, season four is shaping up to be much better.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Thursday, 7 April 2005 16:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Ha, I actually think that many more of the season 4 girls are either completely anonymous-looking or hideous (and not hideous in a way that works for modelling, except for one notable exception).

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 7 April 2005 16:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Michelle the wrestler is really hideous. I am so ashamed she represents Indiana.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Thursday, 7 April 2005 17:20 (twenty-one years ago)

TWO PEOPLE STAND BEFORE ME, YET I HOLD ONLY ONE PICTURE. THAT PICTURE REPRESENTS THE PERSON WHO WILL STAY IN THE RUNNING TO BECOME AMERICA'S NEXT TOP MODEL.

JUST TO MAKE IT CLEAR, I HAVE ONLY ONE PICTURE. YET THERE ARE TWO PEOPLE IN FRONT OF ME. ONLY ONE WILL CONTINUE TO BE IN THE RUNNING TO BECOME AMERICA'S NEXT TOP MODEL. THE OTHER PERSON WILL NO LONGER BE A CONTENDER FOR THE TITLE OF AMERICA'S NEXT TOP MODEL. IT ALL DEPENDS ON WHOSE PICTURE I WILL SHOW.

HEAR ME, FROM MOUNTAIN HIGH TO VALLEY LOW, AND KNOW THAT I WILL SHOW THE PICTURE VERY SOON, AND WHEN I DO, IT WILL BE CLEAR AS DAY WHICH OF THESE TWO PEOPLE STANDING BEFORE ME WILL STILL BE QUALIFIED TO AT SOME LATER TIME BE NAMED "AMERICA'S NEXT TOP MODEL"

ronny longjohns (ronny longjohns), Friday, 8 April 2005 01:52 (twenty-one years ago)

But will I get a $100,000 contract with Cover Girl cosmetics? WHY WON'T YOU TELL ME?

Markelby (Mark C), Friday, 8 April 2005 08:24 (twenty-one years ago)

YES, AND THANKS FOR ASKING... IN FACT THIS IS BUT ONE OF THE PRIZES WHICH WILL BE AWARDED TO THE PERSON WHO BECOMES AMERICA'S NEXT TOP MODEL.

ONE OF THE PEOPLE WHO WILL REMAIN IN CONTENTION FOR THIS TITLE (AMERICA'S NEXT TOP MODEL), WILL BE IDENTIFIABLE BY LOOKING AT THE ONE PICTURE I AM ABOUT TO SHOW, WHICH I MIGHT ADD IS NOTABLE IN AND OF ITSELF BECAUSE OF THE FACT THAT THERE ARE NOT ONE BUT TWO PEOPLE BEFORE ME.

LOOK AT THE PICTURE WHICH I WILL SHOW PRESENTLY, AND IDENTIFY WHICH OF THE TWO PEOPLE STANDING BEFORE ME APPEARS IN THE PHOTOGRAPH. REMEMBER THAT THE OTHER PERSON WILL NOT BE IN THE PHOTOGRAPH. IT'S JUST THE ONE. PERSON, THAT IS. WELL, ACTUALLY WE MUST REMEMBER THAT THERE IS ONLY ONE PHOTOGRAPH. DID I SAY ONE PERSON? THERE ARE TWO PEOPLE STANDING BEFORE ME. BUT WHAT I MEANT WAS THAT ONE PERSON WOULD BE IN THE PHOTOGRAPH. AND FOR THAT PERSON THE POSSIBILITY REMAINS THAT ONE DAY THEY WILL BE NAMED AMERICA'S NEXT TOP MODEL!!!!!!!!!!!!!11!!!!!111!!WTFOMG

ronny longjohns (ronny longjohns), Friday, 8 April 2005 14:25 (twenty-one years ago)

!!!!

I think we need a thread where we post in the style of Tyra Banks.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Friday, 8 April 2005 15:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Do we have to dress the part?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 8 April 2005 15:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Only if you include the pictures along with your posts.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Friday, 8 April 2005 15:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Hmmm ... I sense a lack of logic in my answer.
Basically: if you dress up as Tyra, take pics. Post them. That is all. Otherwise, dressing up is optional. Unless you're Leeeee, in which case dressing up as Tyra is mandatory.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Friday, 8 April 2005 15:59 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm not "thick" enough to dress up as Tyra.

Leeenge de Bruijn (Leee), Thursday, 14 April 2005 03:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Speaking of thick, what the hell was Tyra's problem tonight? Every season, there are one or two girls who have talent but basically give up at some point. In Season 3, Toccara started out strong but eventually gave up, and Anne coasted along on looks, charm, and zero motivation right up until the very end. In Season 1, Elyse flaunted her academic accomplishments for the entire season, and all but said that modelling was beneath her and that she was only on the show to prove to herself that she could do it.

Tyra seriously needs to chill.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Thursday, 14 April 2005 04:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Season 4 is not coming to UK tv until the FALL guh. I may have to watch some of it while I'm visiting the US in a couple weeks. Last night we watched the 'follow-up' show to season 3. I laughed at their house in Brooklyn, which I probably shouldn't have.

sgs (sgs), Thursday, 14 April 2005 08:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Sarah, what will I do if you watch season 4 in the States??? Oh no!

I enjoyed the show last night, but it made it clear I only really cared about 4 or 5 of the girls (including, oddly, Ann, who actually seemed normal and kinda decent in the real world). Eva came across much better, too. That Brooklyn house was crazy! I wonder if any of the models have done nekkid pics since the series?

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 14 April 2005 10:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh yeah, sorry, I forgot that this was a spoiler-free thread. At least I wasn't very specific with names, precise circumstances, etc.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Thursday, 14 April 2005 13:30 (twenty-one years ago)

I fell asleep half way through, will have to catch the saturday repeat.
