until last night i'd decided that when i get a new mobile phone i'll get a crap one with a free digital radio. and i do really want a digital radio. but then last night i saw my friend's new phone:

http://www.mobileshop.co.uk/mobilephones/orange/paymonthly/orange_spv_e200.php

you can watch films on it (well, tv programmes, anyway)! and browse the internet! and take photos and play mp3s and... but i'm at quite a loss to see why i really want to do any of these things. but i do.

umm, this is a thread to talk about items of technology that you never knew you needed and still don't, but you think you do. or something.

Toby has logged in from a mobile device.

I thought it was impossible to post from a mobile? If not, it's only a matter of time before someone actually posts to ILE from a FAP.

(Sorry, silly joke. The friend he's talking about keeps popping up on instnt messenger saying that "[name] has logged in from a mobile device".)

Graham used to post from FAPs didn't he?

What a wonderful role model.

indeed he did.

i think it's impossible to post from wap. i'd be very surprised if you couldn't post from this phone though.

posting from faps:

The ILE Awards, Live And Direct From Classy Central London

You could theoretically post from my phone, but I don't really see the point.

I seem to recall a Canadian (Sean Carruthers perhaps?) posting by phone (during the black-out maybe?).

Anyone can update their Live Journals by sending a mere text message, you know.

I have never done this.

Similar function for ILX for those who sit through long work meetings = classic. (But drain on txt msg charges = dud I guess, as I imagine people would text you replies too actually this is the worst idea ever)

Bah, monile phone. Ugh.

Pete (Pete), Monday, 1 March 2004 12:46 (twenty-one years ago)

A phone made out of monile? Does it go "bling bling" when it rings?

nine years pass...

Supposedly the new Nokia Lumia (Windows) is going to have a 41-megapixel camera. I'm kind of intrigued.

two years pass...

i bought the level entry lumia 550 with w10 last week for mk2 (welcome to being a teenager!),
then after helping him set it all up, i decided to get one for myself as i have been hanging onto an old w7 phone for far too long and had become as useful as a chocolate fireguard in recent times.
i suspect that w10 is hated on ile, but i happen to think it's rather good,
and for the money, the 550 is pretty damn fine.
it must be a loss leader given the cost (unlocked/sim free : a lot less than £100 in the uk via certain providers) and the depth of functionality.
