1) who is your karaoke doppelganger? (ie. who's voice matches up mighty well with your emulations)

2) what artist(s) rule karaoke in your neck of the woods?

cinniblount (James Blount), Sunday, 7 March 2004 07:55 (twenty-one years ago)

1) robin zander, mick jagger

2) shania twain, dixie chicks

cinniblount (James Blount), Sunday, 7 March 2004 07:56 (twenty-one years ago)

when i lived in iceland they had karaoke at the marine bar - i used to always sing dwight yoakem and my lpo would get drunk and make us sing 'sussudio' with him. anyhow this one icelandic girl came EVERY WEEK and did a very lowkey sad version of 'lost in your eyes'. very paths of glory.

cinniblount (James Blount), Sunday, 7 March 2004 08:00 (twenty-one years ago)

I've been known to do quite the rendition of Chris Isaak's "Baby Did a Bad, Bad Thing." Haven't done karaoke of any sort in a few years, though.

Prude (Prude), Sunday, 7 March 2004 08:03 (twenty-one years ago)

I can sing, never karaoke'd though. My cocaine-addict uncle with 8 teeth does that. Hmm...wonder why I never thought of doing it?

aNatheMa (aNatheMa), Sunday, 7 March 2004 08:11 (twenty-one years ago)

2) Bobby Vinton's Blue Velvet, i think, is one of the perfect karaoke songs for me.

A) It is fairly short allows me to get it over with quickly
B) It has the lovely ad lib part at the end to show off on
C) It is an old classic that old people like
D) It was in a David Lynch movie
E) It has a very easy and memorizable melody and words
F) cool backing vocals for the friends to join in on

A Nairn (moretap), Sunday, 7 March 2004 08:21 (twenty-one years ago)

G) mostly available world wide

A Nairn (moretap), Sunday, 7 March 2004 08:22 (twenty-one years ago)

H) It's ladywooable

A Nairn (moretap), Sunday, 7 March 2004 08:23 (twenty-one years ago)

I have only done karaoke the one time. Therefore, I will respond using the same experiences I had from that time:

(1.) Rather interestingly enough, I seemed to do best with a Pat Benatar song. "We are young! Heartache to heartache, we stand! No promises, no demands!" Was very, very fun.

(2.) Shania Twain seemed to also be rather popular around here. But it was fun seeing all the varied attempts people made to conquer Frank Sinatra. The one who was the most successful at it interestingly enough reminded me a bit of Fred Durst. Um, huh?

Many Coloured Halo (Dee the Lurker), Sunday, 7 March 2004 08:27 (twenty-one years ago)

i refuse to go to any karaoke ever again that doesn't feature a drunken break-dancing man.

ken c (ken c), Sunday, 7 March 2004 08:46 (twenty-one years ago)

a) bryan ferry
b) dusty springfield

i've never done this actually! i'm chicken.

i'd like to do 'drive' tho.

g--ff (gcannon), Sunday, 7 March 2004 09:28 (twenty-one years ago)

also ppl who say 'karoke' make me gnash my teeth

g--ff (gcannon), Sunday, 7 March 2004 09:29 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm way too shy for karaoke - I prefer to sit back and enjoy the somewhat greater talents of my friends. My favourite karaoke moment evah was Pete B scaring the living daylights out of a pub full of people with Radiohead. THE PANIC, THE VOMIT etc.

Madchen (Madchen), Sunday, 7 March 2004 09:56 (twenty-one years ago)

eep! flashbacks!! This was at the king of corsica?

ken c (ken c), Sunday, 7 March 2004 12:45 (twenty-one years ago)

your karaoke set list

gygax! (gygax!), Sunday, 7 March 2004 14:57 (twenty-one years ago)

i probably sound like a weak david sylvian affectation. last time i went to a karaoke bar it was mostly asian pop so i had to settle for backstreet boys.

scissors (Honda), Sunday, 7 March 2004 15:09 (twenty-one years ago)

1) Man I rocked Laura Branigan's "Gloria" to perfection. I HAVE the range
2) willie nelson, toby keith

Aaron A., Sunday, 7 March 2004 15:14 (twenty-one years ago)

I've never done it. We Londoners have karaoke FAPs occasionally and I was going to sing at the last - a Tatu duet with Sinkah, but he pulled out. I am determined to sing next time, and have occasionally found myself since then thinking "Yes! That's the song I'll do!" The songs in question have been:
Stupidity by Solomon Burke
The Same Thing It Took To Get Me by Joe Tex and Mable John (I would need a second person for this)
Dynamite Days by Kevin Coyne
Pouring Water On A Drowning Man by James Carr

It always takes me a moment or two to realise that I have no chance of finding these available at any karaoke. I'm still thinking about it.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Sunday, 7 March 2004 15:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Maybe you should just accept your fate, Martin, and do The Wind Beneath my Wings. It's kismet.

Skottie, Sunday, 7 March 2004 16:13 (twenty-one years ago)

I need to do something I can attempt to belt out. No ballads, nothing needing any subtle or singing ability. I may go for a Tom Jones or Elvis thing, as you can approach many of theirs that way.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Sunday, 7 March 2004 19:09 (twenty-one years ago)

1. Axl Rose. Or alternatively Jarvis Cocker. People here have, unfortunately, witnessed the former.

2. Been ages since the last K-FAP I was at, but The Darkness, Missy Elliott, PJ & Duncan, The Cheeky Girls and Reel 2 Reel featuring The Mad Stuntman appear to go down well round these parts. I feel this is solely confined to the London ILX Mafia though. Otherwise its all I Will Survive and Wonderwall as far as the eye can see.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Sunday, 7 March 2004 19:13 (twenty-one years ago)

four years pass...

I didn't know which thread to revive but this one wins for the title.

Going to Honky-Tonk Karaoke tonight fellas, whaddoising, whaddoising, eh? eh?

RabiesAngentleman, Monday, 25 August 2008 03:47 (seventeen years ago)

I'm thinkin a little stones, a little waylon. A little Cark Perkins. Yeah? Yeah?

RabiesAngentleman, Monday, 25 August 2008 03:48 (seventeen years ago)

i always wanted to sing george jones but my usual spot hardly has any. good luaoke

tremendoid, Monday, 25 August 2008 03:52 (seventeen years ago)

Oh there's tons of George Jones here, my problem is I don't know my GJ well enough...! Shame!

RabiesAngentleman, Monday, 25 August 2008 03:53 (seventeen years ago)

Oh my, we're leaving in just moments. Wheeeeee (this should maybe be in the I am drunk thread...)

RabiesAngentleman, Monday, 25 August 2008 03:55 (seventeen years ago)

so tired of hearing "Killing Me Softly" every hour on Fridays

milo z, Monday, 25 August 2008 04:04 (seventeen years ago)

a) Paul Rodgers, Gregg Allman, Michael Stipe, Scott Weiland
b) still haven't karaoke'd since moving to SF - looking forward to finding out!

rogermexico., Monday, 25 August 2008 04:59 (seventeen years ago)

Bahhh, too many people there, I only got to sing Up Against The Wall You Redneck! But it went over like gangbusters, apparently, so hell...

RabiesAngentleman, Monday, 25 August 2008 07:03 (seventeen years ago)

1. Annie Lennox, lol
2. I dunno. I hear "House of the rising sun" more than any other song, but we go to two places; one place it's young people trying to be all cool and singing Steely Dan and, like, "99 problems" where they memorized the whole thing; and at the other it's these incredibly cartoonishly square middle aged people singing, like, Neil Sedaka and Perry Como, and other similar shit I've never even heard of.

Dan I., Monday, 25 August 2008 07:17 (seventeen years ago)

I can sing a pretty mean Yaz, too.

Dan I., Monday, 25 August 2008 07:19 (seventeen years ago)

like, like, like I have to stop trying to post convertsaionally

Dan I., Monday, 25 August 2008 07:21 (seventeen years ago)

I'd rather people post conversationally than make some stilted attempt at dressing it up all proper-fashion-like. Pffff

RabiesAngentleman, Monday, 25 August 2008 07:26 (seventeen years ago)

My "likes" are stilted so there

This is Bill, who is brave enough to sing with his voice box. He gets into it and is always one of my favorite singers.
http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii317/RabitesAngelatin/IMG_0703.jpg
Here's Bill on stage with Craig who runs the show. Craig says if you don't like country, you don't like shit. Craig OTM.

Now this here is my friend whose birthday it was we were celebrating.
http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii317/RabitesAngelatin/IMG_0695.jpg
This guy's king, but I didn't get a good shot of him singing so here he is with beer. No shots of me here because these are from my camera. Not pictured are a bunch of other kids I hang out with.

It was a fun night.

RabiesAngentleman, Monday, 25 August 2008 07:36 (seventeen years ago)

The end.

RabiesAngentleman, Monday, 25 August 2008 07:36 (seventeen years ago)

This is my friend who used to occupy the bedroom I'm now in (AHEM)

Um, just to clarify this statement:
discovering a JUG OF PEE in your new bedroom: C or D

ha ha ha

RabiesAngentleman, Monday, 25 August 2008 09:53 (seventeen years ago)

Man, my bachelorette party was KARAOKE RADICAND. Me & my gals were all of the people in the bar but two, so we all got to sing like 20+ songs. Danced to all, of course! And we all happen to know the words to most every song in the world so we all sang along w/one another.

My best performances:
• K8 Bush - Running Up That Hill
• Heart - These Dreams
• Peter Gabriel - Shock the Monkey
• David Bowie - Oh You Pretty Things

I can't even remember what all we sang, 'cept there was mad David Bowie & basically whatever spooky new wave we could find. And Hall & Oates.

Karaoke is my favorite activity in the ENTIRE WORLD!!!

Abbott, Tuesday, 26 August 2008 02:03 (seventeen years ago)

Oh duet on "Rock Lobster" was SUITE too. We asked first, if we could sing it, bcz it is ~7 minutes long. We got permission and ROCKED that shit.

Abbott, Tuesday, 26 August 2008 02:06 (seventeen years ago)

Oh we also sang basically every Prince song they had, too, which encouraged a dude in the bar to sing "Jungle Love." Dude looked methed out but a good time was had by all. He knew all the dance moves. (All...two...of them?)

Abbott, Tuesday, 26 August 2008 02:07 (seventeen years ago)

omg the friend of mine with whom i did Enya (only time) karaoke (which we later turned into art/music performance piece) really wants to do a K8 Bush Running Up That Hill performance piece. i am into this, so fun.

rrrobyn, Tuesday, 26 August 2008 02:34 (seventeen years ago)

i wld sing more Heart and Fleetwood Mac for sure but they never seem to have them at karaoke i go to (tho i haven't been to any karaoke place in a while)

yes to Prince!

rrrobyn, Tuesday, 26 August 2008 02:35 (seventeen years ago)

i appreciate a really good, slightly camped up britney karaoke performance

rrrobyn, Tuesday, 26 August 2008 02:36 (seventeen years ago)

(but i wld never do one myself)

rrrobyn, Tuesday, 26 August 2008 02:37 (seventeen years ago)

i used to always sing tori amos precious things but i think it is a little tired now and also ppl are like 'waht' bc you have to make strange noises.

tehresa, Tuesday, 26 August 2008 02:48 (seventeen years ago)

though after doing it once a girl asked me if i would help her since crucify bc she was scared.

rrrob come here bc there is lots of fleetwood at karaoke! i want to do sara but i am so scared bc it really is a lot to live up to.

tehresa, Tuesday, 26 August 2008 02:48 (seventeen years ago)

my sis and i were talkin bout torch songs and think 'i can't make you love me' would be awesome but it's probably really cliche and sung very often and very badly.

tehresa, Tuesday, 26 August 2008 02:51 (seventeen years ago)

oh i would totally do sara with you at karaoke. i kind of love doing backing vocals/harmonies/echoes.

rrrobyn, Tuesday, 26 August 2008 02:54 (seventeen years ago)

Does anyone ever go to the one at Piano's? A good friend of mine has apparently achieved legendary status there but I never go because it's on Mondays and he goes late.

Hurting 2, Tuesday, 26 August 2008 03:56 (seventeen years ago)

did anyone else see rabies photos & the captions & think he trying to subtly be all hey i karaoke with bill maher?

deeznuts, Tuesday, 26 August 2008 03:58 (seventeen years ago)

Bill Maher has an electrolarynx?

RabiesAngentleman, Tuesday, 26 August 2008 07:12 (seventeen years ago)

that craig guy is a dead ringer for maher!

deeznuts, Tuesday, 26 August 2008 07:24 (seventeen years ago)

on Saturday i did:

Enola Gay '98 (too many musical gaps, not enough lyrics - realised this too late)
Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick
National Express
Gangsta's Paradise (they left the n-bomb in but i didn't say it)
Shine (by Take That)

blueski, Tuesday, 26 August 2008 10:02 (seventeen years ago)

Last weekend the place was dead and I got to sing way more than usual. "December 1963," "Kansas City Star," and "Gossip Folks" - felt good about all of them, although "Gossip Folks" is even screechier than I remember and they don't put up the lyrics for the "Double Dutch Bus" sample which leaves you having to kind of improv...

Doctor Casino, Tuesday, 26 August 2008 13:01 (seventeen years ago)

xxp: Oh hey I kinda see it. I thought you were talking about the guy who is named Bill. Because his name is Bill. But y'know, any excuse to say the word ELECTROLARYNX.

Would so krokey with all of you.

RabiesAngentleman, Tuesday, 26 August 2008 13:02 (seventeen years ago)

'fremme neppa venetta' is how the Double Dutch part goes

Abbott, Tuesday, 26 August 2008 15:12 (seventeen years ago)

I wish I had a karaoke gang. :(

Abbott, Tuesday, 26 August 2008 15:14 (seventeen years ago)

there were so many people last time i did karaoke that i only had time for one song, which, mercifully, was "stand back"

impudent harlot, Tuesday, 26 August 2008 15:17 (seventeen years ago)

i did a MUCH better job at that than "edge of seventeen" which a) goes on forever b) has very few instrumental passages c) left me practically mute well into the next day

impudent harlot, Tuesday, 26 August 2008 15:18 (seventeen years ago)

"gypsy" is even more trying than all of those SN songs IMO!!!!

Steve Shasta, Tuesday, 26 August 2008 15:19 (seventeen years ago)

by the time i got to the WELL I HEAR YOU IN THE MORNING part i was thinking "oh CHRIST"

impudent harlot, Tuesday, 26 August 2008 15:19 (seventeen years ago)
