Anticipating seeing the Dawn of the Dead remake on Tuesday, I bought the original on dvd and have been on a bit of a zombie kick lately. I'm probably going to rent the early 90s Night of the Living Dead remake tonight.

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 12 March 2004 18:47 (twenty-two years ago)

biozombie

A Nairn (moretap), Friday, 12 March 2004 18:51 (twenty-two years ago)

night, dawn, day of dead

yup

stockholm cindy (Jody Beth Rosen), Friday, 12 March 2004 18:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Search: The Last Man on Earth (Vincent Price, 1964) based on the book I Am Legend.

Destroy: In The Mouth of Madness... a crap Lovecraft tale with Sam Neil.

Everybody jerked off about 28 Days but I just thought it was okay. I didn't like the whole army bit.

andy, Friday, 12 March 2004 18:52 (twenty-two years ago)

28 Days Later did have its tangents, but I still really liked it. It helped usher in the age of the Fast Zombie!

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 12 March 2004 18:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Where does Re-Animator rank in the zombie pantheon?

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 12 March 2004 18:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Search:
ZOMBIE directed by LUCIO FULCI.
House of 1,000 corpses
Redneck zombies (so bad it's good)

kephm, Friday, 12 March 2004 18:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Zombies C or D

NA (Nick A.), Friday, 12 March 2004 20:53 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't usually like Zombie movies, or horror movies of any kind, but I'm really looking forward to Shaun of the Dead, that's coming out soon i think.

The fact that the team from Spaced are involved might have something to do with it.

jellybean (jellybean), Friday, 12 March 2004 23:28 (twenty-two years ago)

the fast zombies were in full effect in the Return of the Living Dead films, though!

S: the Romero zombie films, Return of the Living Dead, 28 Days Later, Zombie (Fulci), and to a lesser extent Night of the Demons and Resident Evil (seriously, it's far better than it has any right to be)

destroy: Zombie Lake and Night of the demons 2, and the Night of the Living Dead remake. And Return of the Living Dead 2

Gear! (Gear!), Friday, 12 March 2004 23:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Dead Alive!

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Friday, 12 March 2004 23:39 (twenty-two years ago)

I've always had this vision of a zombie video game, in the style of Doom, but with tons and tons of zombies that are fairly easy to kill, but just so numerous. Maybe computer memory isn't up for that yet, but It'd be soo awesome.

A Nairn (moretap), Friday, 12 March 2004 23:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Does anyone else find zombie movies strangely appealing because of the inherent apocalyptic nature in almost every single one of the great zombie films? or is that just me...

Gear! (Gear!), Friday, 12 March 2004 23:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Dellamorte Dellamore! (make sure you see the original Italian language version instead of the dubbed, retitled, and vastly inferior cut Cemetary Man).

Elvis Telecom (Chris Barrus), Friday, 12 March 2004 23:52 (twenty-two years ago)

What I like is a combination of a seemingly unending supply of monsters and the fear of becoming one.

A Nairn (moretap), Friday, 12 March 2004 23:53 (twenty-two years ago)

eleven months pass...
Hey, I DID start a zombie thread.

Zombies are so flexible thematically. You have the disease metaphor (but a disease you can avoid if you are smart enough, hence the appeal), the breakdown of society, the apocalypse, identity and humanity issues, etc.

My girlfriend and I declared yesterday International Zombie Sunday and bought a bunch of dvds. We watched Return of the Living Dead (completely silly, but a couple of interesting ideas) and Cemetary Man. I'd love to hear more about the Italian version of the latter. Is it available? Wasn't it based on a comic book as well?

Still to go: Night of the Living Dead (the Savini remake), Zombi 2 (I'm interested in some opinions on this one), um, that Wes Craven movie, some others I can't remember.

Jordan (Jordan), Monday, 21 February 2005 17:30 (twenty-one years ago)

the italian version of cemetary man (dellamorte dellamore) is the same movie, i think!

s1ocki (slutsky), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 06:34 (twenty-one years ago)

S: 'anticipation' of Land of the Dead, (ie the film itself may well turn out to be horrid but i'm loving the idea)

I watched the Savini version of Night' not long ago, s'not terrible but i'm not sure i see the point of a remake.

D: fast zombies

Ste (Fuzzy), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 11:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Destroy: Zombie Nightmare.

Then get the local voodoo queen to resurrect it and destroy the fucker all over again. Twice.

Onimo (GerryNemo), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 12:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh yeah, D: Vampires vs. Zombies. It sounds like a no-lose situation, but it really is the worst movie evvvveeerrrrr. The "bonus" sub-sub-sub-Tarantino short that comes on the dvd is hilarious, though.

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 15:29 (twenty-one years ago)

OK, this thread was too tempting to resist:

Yeah, Dellamorte Dellamore is the same version as Cemetery Man.

Search:
Romero's zombie trilogy
Fulci's Zombi 2 (aka Zombie)
The Beyond
Cemetery Man
Resident Evil (that's a minority opinion ok?)

Worth watching:
House by the Cemetery
City of the Living Dead
The Crazies
Night remake

Destroy:
House of the Dead
Zombi 3
Burial Ground
Zombie Holocaust
Etc
Etc
Etc

As for 28 Days Later/ Dawn remake - both kinda 'meh'. 28 Days Later seemed to do better in the US, critically and commercially, presumably because no one questioned the idea of a wimp in his underwear wiping out the British army.

Ceetrus, Tuesday, 22 February 2005 15:48 (twenty-one years ago)

After having watched it umpteen trillion times now, I think my favorite thing about Shaun of the Dead is that it is as solid of a zombie flick as it is a comedy.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 15:50 (twenty-one years ago)

agree completely

Ste (Fuzzy), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 16:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Destroy:
House of the Dead
Zombi 3
Burial Ground

I love Burial Ground!

scott seward (scott seward), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 16:03 (twenty-one years ago)

so why destroy it?

Ste (Fuzzy), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 16:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Because it is utterly awful. Destroy Zombie Creeping Flesh too.

Zar, Tuesday, 22 February 2005 16:15 (twenty-one years ago)

The Living Dead At The Manchester Morgue,

(purely for the funky music and the bare breasted lady at the start)

Ste (Fuzzy), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 16:27 (twenty-one years ago)

no, i didn't destroy burial ground. i should have put quotes around ceetrus's destroy list. i kinda like most zombie movies. i just love zombies.

scott seward (scott seward), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 16:29 (twenty-one years ago)

i love that creepy kid in burial ground. one of my fave creepy horror kidz.

scott seward (scott seward), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 16:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Search out Return of the Living Dead 1 and 3 as well. Destroy part 2. Living Dead at the Manchester Morgue is dull so destroy that and take The Video Dead into the trashcan while you're at it.

Also really, really search out Re-Animator but destroy the two sequels.

Zar, Tuesday, 22 February 2005 16:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Shaun vs. Dawn

EComplex (EComplex), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 16:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Does Bud The CHUD count as a Zombie film? If so, destroy that too.

Onimo (GerryNemo), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 16:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Hi. I'm one of the worst movies ever made.

House of the Dead (Gear!), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 18:26 (twenty-one years ago)

hi

s1ocki (slutsky), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 18:47 (twenty-one years ago)

friend! did you see me?

House of the Dead (Gear!), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 19:07 (twenty-one years ago)

no! thankfully

s1ocki (slutsky), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 19:09 (twenty-one years ago)

are you uwe-gooey good?

s1ocki (slutsky), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 19:10 (twenty-one years ago)

ahh no, not really. you made a wise choice. haha I hate myself.

House of the Dead (Gear!), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 19:12 (twenty-one years ago)

my favorite thing about Shaun of the Dead is that it is as solid of a zombie flick as it is a comedy

This isn't fair. It's a better zombie flick than it is comedy, cos it isn't very funny at all.

Speedhump Bungle (noodle vague), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 19:17 (twenty-one years ago)

It's a good zombie flick though.

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 19:27 (twenty-one years ago)

I had a zombie thread too, before this one.

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 19:34 (twenty-one years ago)

See: Zombies C or D

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 19:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Well.

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 19:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh wait I already linked to that upthread.

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 19:38 (twenty-one years ago)

I suppose yours is longer too.

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 19:38 (twenty-one years ago)

yours is a good size, Jordan, even if n/a's is longer.

Gear! (can Jung shill it, Mu?) (Gear!), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 19:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Zombie movie I want to see.

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 19:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Zombie movie that *I* want to see

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 19:58 (twenty-one years ago)

"MONSTERS COME REAL! CRASH OUT OF SCREEN! INVADE AUDIENCE! ABDUCT GIRLS FROM THEIR SEATS! Not 3-D"

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 19:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Dose Shaun of the Dead have to face a zombie/comedy schism? I think of it as the best romantic comedy ever filmed. It completely redeemed the genre. Cemetery Man touched on the deeper issues of man-zombie love, of course, but I can't really classify it as zomromcom.

Madolan, Tuesday, 22 February 2005 21:46 (twenty-one years ago)

i don't really see how shaun of the dead is a romcom by any definition--if anything it's a relationship comedy no?

s1ocki (slutsky), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 21:51 (twenty-one years ago)

if you're classifying Shaun' as a romantic comedy then it's possibly the weakest romantic comedy I've ever seen. ITS A COMEDY ZOMBIE FLICK PEOPLE!

Ste (Fuzzy), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 21:54 (twenty-one years ago)

It's a zombedy.

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 21:56 (twenty-one years ago)

What's the difference between a romantic comeday and a relationship comedy?

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 22:01 (twenty-one years ago)

It's a rom-zom-com - Simon Pegg said so himself. Somewhere. Maybe.

(xpost. hahaha, romance in a relationship...)

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 22:01 (twenty-one years ago)

SotD must be a romantic comedy so that I can say I actually enjoy a movie in that genre. This is important. (Meg Ryan should make romcoms for girls like me. Undead in Seattle. When Harry Met Zombies. Etc.)

Madolan, Tuesday, 22 February 2005 22:07 (twenty-one years ago)

ok fair enough it's not simply just a romcom, romzomcom is better.

Ste (Fuzzy), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 22:12 (twenty-one years ago)

I really liked Zombi 2. It wasn't a thinky zombie movie at all, but very atmospheric and well-done. More importantly...ZOMBIE VS. FUCKING SHARK!!!!

This weekend: White Zombie and Zombie Lake (some French zombie movie that has nazis and an "alternate clothed version" listed in the features).

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 25 February 2005 17:13 (twenty-one years ago)

one year passes...
search: Shadow: Dead Riot ~~~ zombies in a womens prison! epic shower scenes! enough gore to make Fulci sick! and a lesbian Emma Bunton lookalike! in uniform!!
(yet, strangely, no Steve Guttenberg cameo.)
