C/D - Being called a poofter by a ned while walking in to work this morning.

Classic - he said 'poofter' in a posh voice causing me to burst out laughing further down the street when I was sure he wouldn't be able to hear me and then beat me, means I looks sharp as with my new black and white wee pantone going with my black suit, white shirt and black tie.

Dud - Not quite the image I want to project....

hmmm (hmmm), Monday, 22 March 2004 09:46 (twenty-two years ago)

whats a white pantone?

jed_ (jed), Monday, 22 March 2004 09:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Those fuckin Neds

Mr Mime (Andrew Thames), Monday, 22 March 2004 10:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Shite. Black and white pantone bag. Struggling to find a decent picture right now.

xpost

hmmm (hmmm), Monday, 22 March 2004 10:07 (twenty-two years ago)

i quite like those Pantone bags. but then i love the Pantone system.

stevem (blueski), Monday, 22 March 2004 10:09 (twenty-two years ago)

I *love* my new pantone bag.

hmmm (hmmm), Monday, 22 March 2004 10:13 (twenty-two years ago)

stevem (blueski), Monday, 22 March 2004 10:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Oooh, I want one now. Black and white though.

robster (robster), Monday, 22 March 2004 10:34 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah, kinda like that but much smaller and black (19-4006 Caviar to be precise). It is both S&M and classy at the same time.

x-post.

hmmm (hmmm), Monday, 22 March 2004 10:35 (twenty-two years ago)

i like the black one with the amberish flap

stevem (blueski), Monday, 22 March 2004 10:36 (twenty-two years ago)

They're all pretty awesome to be honest. They should do clothes.

hmmm (hmmm), Monday, 22 March 2004 10:38 (twenty-two years ago)

t-shirts yes, and maybe underwear, but that's the line

stevem (blueski), Monday, 22 March 2004 10:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Hats? A nice orange top hat with a pantone logo on the brim....

hmmm (hmmm), Monday, 22 March 2004 10:43 (twenty-two years ago)

ipsofacto (ipsofacto), Monday, 22 March 2004 10:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Nice bag!

Ricardo (RickyT), Monday, 22 March 2004 10:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Mmmmmm those are great, but I need another bag like yon new hole in head.

suzy (suzy), Monday, 22 March 2004 10:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Where did you get that gorgeous bag from, Stevem. I would like one in Pantone 292. (Actually, didn't Stephin Merritt get to name his own pantone colour a while back?)

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Monday, 22 March 2004 11:19 (twenty-two years ago)

(Yes he did - it was Carolyn Eve Green: PantoneĀ® 7498. So I would like that one, please.)

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Monday, 22 March 2004 11:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Pantone 292 aka Light Blue ;)

i got the picture of the bag via Google, but i do not own such a bag. i think it would suit Starry or Suzy super much tho.

stevem (blueski), Monday, 22 March 2004 11:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Reno Dakota, I'm reaching my quota of tears for the year...

Mmmmm pantone yum.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Monday, 22 March 2004 11:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Ah they have them at the London Graphic Centre. (I feel an almost pornographic delight walking round that shop.)

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Monday, 22 March 2004 11:31 (twenty-two years ago)

they had some in the BilboGuggenheim shop, 30 Euros or so i think

stevem (blueski), Monday, 22 March 2004 11:42 (twenty-two years ago)

The Proustian root of this has to be Morrissey getting sexed up from the smell of the paper at Ryman's, eh J?

I've also been absolutely jonesing for the mugs which are the Pantone colour (and so labelled) of various milkinesses of cups of tea or coffee, so you can select the shade which most resembles your cuppa colour:

http://www.designboom.com/snapshots/milan03/may/d12.jpg

They're made by a guy called Onkhar Singh Kular, but there's a wrongness about the shape of the mug.

suzy (suzy), Monday, 22 March 2004 12:26 (twenty-two years ago)

It's a bit too lanky...? Something a bit curvier would be more sexy. But A* for good idea-ness.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Monday, 22 March 2004 12:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Haha that is the most passive aggressive cup evah! I imagine sending my cow-workers back to the kettle, scolding them with "are you BLIND?! That is clearly not pantone 872! It's a whole 5 numbers off!!".

(Suzy - everything in my life can be blamed on Morrissey in one way or another.)

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Monday, 22 March 2004 12:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Jerry, I'm pretty much the same - which is why I delight in calling you on it.

And you're right, I could so see a certain Auld Harpy at ESM sending a tea minion back and back and back. I really wanted them to be the bog-standard semi-circle handle shape I choose for all my other mugs ::shakes fists at designer::

Good colours for the bag: an equivalence to wasabi/bancha green, Tiffany blue, tomato red as seen in my Marimekko handbag. A bright orange one would be a bit dotcom.

suzy (suzy), Monday, 22 March 2004 12:35 (twenty-two years ago)

all products should really have their Pantone colour displayed on them, in Helvetica Bold -50 Tracking. i hope this isn't too tDR '90s though (of course it is).

stevem (blueski), Monday, 22 March 2004 12:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Pantone 242 C or 7435 C (Plum) would be good - has Plum been and gone already or should 2004 be the year of Plum?

stevem (blueski), Monday, 22 March 2004 12:44 (twenty-two years ago)

http://www2.prestel.co.uk/grayling/beano/plum.gif

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Monday, 22 March 2004 12:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Plum: very a/w 2003, as brought to you by our pals at Yves St Laurent and the people who make satin combats. Memory jigged yet?

suzy (suzy), Monday, 22 March 2004 12:46 (twenty-two years ago)

I must have one of those bags. . .

Ask For Samantha (thatgirl), Monday, 22 March 2004 13:00 (twenty-two years ago)

let's just rename this thread 'Pantone bags - Classic or ubercool?'

hmmm (hmmm), Monday, 22 March 2004 13:17 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah, where can I get this stuff in america??

teeny (teeny), Monday, 22 March 2004 13:54 (twenty-two years ago)

FAGS

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Monday, 22 March 2004 13:55 (twenty-two years ago)

actually the bags are pretty nice

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Monday, 22 March 2004 13:55 (twenty-two years ago)

but given what my bag goes through in a given week, i wouldnt want to subject it to that.

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Monday, 22 March 2004 13:56 (twenty-two years ago)

I really want one of those mugs.

Being colour blind, I am also in favour of all products having their pantone number printed on them. No more confusion between green/brown/red and blue/purple hurrah!

Ricardo (RickyT), Monday, 22 March 2004 13:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh Jess, you great big lesbian, you.

suzy (suzy), Monday, 22 March 2004 14:00 (twenty-two years ago)

my current bag still hasn't recovered from leaving it on volume's floor for five minutes. it's as if all the filth in nyc crawled up and onto it.

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Monday, 22 March 2004 14:01 (twenty-two years ago)

did anyone (maybe just UK students) have that 'joke colour chart' poster? Terrifying Wank was my favourite...

stevem (blueski), Monday, 22 March 2004 14:03 (twenty-two years ago)

That's stevem's epitaph sorted.

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 22 March 2004 14:19 (twenty-two years ago)

So what did I do again?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 22 March 2004 14:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Being called Ned by a bunch of poofters....how often does Mr Raggett FAP in Venice Beach?

stevem (blueski), Monday, 22 March 2004 14:38 (twenty-two years ago)

seriously, how can I order one of the pantone bags?

teeny (teeny), Monday, 22 March 2004 15:35 (twenty-two years ago)

okay sorry finally found it by searching on http://www.londongraphics.co.uk/

teeny (teeny), Monday, 22 March 2004 15:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Being called Ned by a bunch of poofters....how often does Mr Raggett FAP in Venice Beach?

Arrangements can be made, I guess.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 22 March 2004 15:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Those mugs are genius. I have no qualms about their shape/size; I think they look very sophisticated. The narrow-ness of the mug ensures that your coffee/tea won't cool down too quickly.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Monday, 22 March 2004 15:54 (twenty-two years ago)

My British friend at work denies 'ned' being any sort of real slang. Explain yourselves.

Jordan (Jordan), Monday, 22 March 2004 17:19 (twenty-two years ago)

I want a minty green Pantone bag. What number is that?

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 22 March 2004 17:21 (twenty-two years ago)

it's only in Scotland jordan

stevem (blueski), Monday, 22 March 2004 17:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Are pantone pants available?

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 22 March 2004 17:37 (twenty-two years ago)

The 'ned thread':

Ned 'hurtful and disrespectful to young people'

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 22 March 2004 17:38 (twenty-two years ago)

I think ted begat ned.

RJG (RJG), Monday, 22 March 2004 17:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Less Ned, more Pantone.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Monday, 22 March 2004 17:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Clearly I have little status as a fashion icon.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 22 March 2004 17:56 (twenty-two years ago)

I can't follow the descriptions of the bags on that London Graphics Centre shopping site. Are all the photos right?

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 22 March 2004 17:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Did hmmm get his in Glasgow?

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 22 March 2004 17:58 (twenty-two years ago)

they have them, in the lighthouse.

RJG (RJG), Monday, 22 March 2004 17:59 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't see the big deal, btw.

RJG (RJG), Monday, 22 March 2004 18:00 (twenty-two years ago)

They're pretty.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Monday, 22 March 2004 18:00 (twenty-two years ago)

They're maybe a bit gimmicky. Never sure about cute brand extensions. But 'Pantone' is obscure enough to most people for it not to date too quickly. I'll have to see them up close, I think. I need a bag.

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 22 March 2004 18:05 (twenty-two years ago)

you're as changable as the weather.

RJG (RJG), Monday, 22 March 2004 18:06 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm very impressionable, it's true. And you're so persuasive.

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 22 March 2004 18:07 (twenty-two years ago)

I think the best thing to say right now is that I am ambivalent on the Pantone bag issue, but that a minty green one might sway me.

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 22 March 2004 18:08 (twenty-two years ago)

I think I'd like them more if they didn't say 'pantone' on them.

RJG (RJG), Monday, 22 March 2004 18:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes. Or even if it were a little more subtle.

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 22 March 2004 18:10 (twenty-two years ago)

No, I've changed my mind. It's the bold conceptual branding that makes them.

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 22 March 2004 18:12 (twenty-two years ago)

"white wee pantone" - eww.

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 22 March 2004 18:12 (twenty-two years ago)

if it's cool because they look like they're panels straight out of the colour range then it'd be cooler if they just had the number on, really big, in white.

crosspost

RJG (RJG), Monday, 22 March 2004 18:14 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't like the original bag at all.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 22 March 2004 18:16 (twenty-two years ago)

one of my tutors has one of the really small ones.

RJG (RJG), Monday, 22 March 2004 18:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Did you mock?

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 22 March 2004 18:18 (twenty-two years ago)

I really, really like the coffee cups.

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 22 March 2004 18:19 (twenty-two years ago)

I can't afford to and it is one of the really small ones.

RJG (RJG), Monday, 22 March 2004 18:20 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't like bags that look like purses. That bag TOTALLY looks like a purse.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 22 March 2004 18:22 (twenty-two years ago)

I have finally come round to the idea of purses for men.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Monday, 22 March 2004 18:24 (twenty-two years ago)

So basically Dan is calling us poofters?

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 22 March 2004 18:24 (twenty-two years ago)

dan=ned

RJG (RJG), Monday, 22 March 2004 18:25 (twenty-two years ago)

I think you should get a clutch bag, nick.

RJG (RJG), Monday, 22 March 2004 18:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Do you know, I think I will.

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 22 March 2004 18:26 (twenty-two years ago)

So basically Dan is calling us poofters?

YES!No.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 22 March 2004 18:30 (twenty-two years ago)

http://comersus.net/ch2083/store/catalog/handbag001.jpg

RJG (RJG), Monday, 22 March 2004 18:32 (twenty-two years ago)

It just needs a picture of Hello Kitty embroidered on the corner.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Monday, 22 March 2004 18:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Or the WWE logo!

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 22 March 2004 18:34 (twenty-two years ago)

pantone bags are OK. the small ones.

cozen (Cozen), Monday, 22 March 2004 19:22 (twenty-two years ago)

I now fear most of you.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 22 March 2004 19:22 (twenty-two years ago)

"now"

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 22 March 2004 19:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, before you've all been cheerful imps.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 22 March 2004 19:47 (twenty-two years ago)

That's like saying that Joy Division are always good for a jolly tune.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Monday, 22 March 2004 19:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Hey, I've heard a chirpy version of "Atmosphere" done by some punk band years ago, ANYTHING is possible.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 22 March 2004 19:50 (twenty-two years ago)

four years pass...

so THIS was the pantone thread

corrie ham (roxymuzak), Wednesday, 5 November 2008 08:11 (seventeen years ago)

also the ned thread

milling through the grinder, grinding through the mill (S-), Wednesday, 5 November 2008 11:37 (seventeen years ago)

Classic - he said 'poofter' in a posh voice causing me to burst out laughing further down the street when I was sure he wouldn't be able to hear me and then beat me

what a poofter

Fake Tuomas (ken c), Wednesday, 5 November 2008 11:40 (seventeen years ago)

how does poofter sound in a posh accent

corrie ham (roxymuzak), Wednesday, 5 November 2008 11:42 (seventeen years ago)

Hang on, I'll call up Brian Sewell and ask...

snoball, Wednesday, 5 November 2008 11:45 (seventeen years ago)

Wait so posh people get down with heckling these days? Man this credit crunch has turned out some bitter fucking people.
I think satchels and backpacks are acceptable for men, even briefcases (if you're a suit and not just because you use it to carry sandwiches around) but a murse is still a no. Mostly because men that carry it just don't rock it with confidence. Its all you need.

VeronaInTheClub, Wednesday, 5 November 2008 15:55 (seventeen years ago)

this credit crunch 4 years ago?

Fake Tuomas (ken c), Wednesday, 5 November 2008 15:57 (seventeen years ago)

talking about the breakfast cereal, obviously

darraghmac, Wednesday, 5 November 2008 17:05 (seventeen years ago)

there is a cereal called credit crunch?!

corrie ham (roxymuzak), Wednesday, 5 November 2008 17:18 (seventeen years ago)

ya. made from old visa cards. 100% RDA plastic, IIRC

darraghmac, Wednesday, 5 November 2008 17:20 (seventeen years ago)
