I used to work with a guy who if you were passing through a doorway at the same time as him (coming the other way), he'd hit his toe in the door to make a noise and then feign a broken nose by pinching it with his hand. This fooled me exactly once, but fooled the secretaries every time he did it. I almost think that he timed his doorway entrances on purpose to do this.

For one long stretch in 1997, the only friends I had were spazzes like that. I was new to Austin and, as luck would have it, started hanging out with this tight-knit EMO community. They all listened to Braid, Cap'n Jazz, Fifteen, Descendents, Weezer... and just as important as your dyed-black Spock mullet and tight sweater and Chucks was your KERRRAY-ZEE, IN-THE-MOMENT, YOUNG WILD & FREE personality. Drive crazy, eat crazy, never sleep, go to 5 emo/hardcore shows a week, someone's always having a "make-out" party even though we're 22... at first it was exciting and new, but eventually grew tiresome, predictable, unattractive. I admit I grew a little resentful because my sheer inability to be so NUTZ all the time put me into a kind-of wallflower role, at least within this clique. But still, fu*k a spazz.
