stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 13:52 (twenty-one years ago)

The Huckle-Buck (Horace Mann), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 13:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Super-Kate (kate), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 13:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Psh, whatever, you work all day, ew.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 13:58 (twenty-one years ago)

i just admit to being a looser.

dyson (dyson), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 14:00 (twenty-one years ago)

I have to defend sitting at the computer and swearing to HSA, erm, yes, I do...

Super-Kate (kate), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 14:03 (twenty-one years ago)

"It just like totally rocks, dude"

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 14:05 (twenty-one years ago)

to defend it I would have to admit to it.

teeny (teeny), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 14:38 (twenty-one years ago)

*has never met anyone to try and defend ILX to*

t\'\'t (t\'\'t), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 14:41 (twenty-one years ago)

"it's better than watching tv"

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 14:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Haha, what Teeny said.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 14:43 (twenty-one years ago)

"First thing is, you have to admit you have a problem"

winterland, Wednesday, 7 April 2004 14:44 (twenty-one years ago)

i should point out that most of my ilx defending has been to people who used to post here and dont anymore

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 14:44 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah no doubt, i keep mum, tho my friends know abt ilx and think it's lame, prob. the worst is when you pick something up here and yr friends want to know 'oh, where'd you hear that?'

g--ff (gcannon), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 14:45 (twenty-one years ago)

sometimes i think it's weird that i post under the name "strongo hulkington" and every editor in the free world lurks on ilm. when they occasionally email me as "jess", i'm fairly amazed.

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 14:47 (twenty-one years ago)

What is "jess"?

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 14:49 (twenty-one years ago)

And can we eat it?

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 14:49 (twenty-one years ago)

I said "they're really really nice people"

I was stared at, blankly.

C J (C J), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 14:49 (twenty-one years ago)

how do you defend ilx to jess then, strongo?

t\'\'t (t\'\'t), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 14:50 (twenty-one years ago)

when jess is on ilx the strongo personality is in control. or vice versa. i forget.

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 14:51 (twenty-one years ago)

I said "they're really really nice people"
I was stared at, blankly.

Did some eejit cut yr hair?

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 14:53 (twenty-one years ago)

t\'\'t (t\'\'t), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 14:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Hehe - I see on the statscock I'm between Cabbage and Suzy. Lucky I've been trained as a steward...

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 14:54 (twenty-one years ago)

"It's not sad, I've met some very interesting people.."

(I do normally lie when people ask me how I met my boyfriend though "Oh, friend of friends, you know.")

Anna (Anna), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 14:55 (twenty-one years ago)

think how I feel then!!!

chris (chris), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 14:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Uh huh, me too. I started off saying "through the internet" but that made me sound either desperate or a stalkee. Now it's "he came down to London to see some mutual friends and..."

Madchen (Madchen), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 14:58 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm reminded of that exchange from Jackie Brown (even though we just talked about what asshats people who quote Tarantino are):

"That shit will ruin your ambition."
"Not if your ambition is to get high and watch tv."

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 14:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Chris, you wait until you have kids, and they ask how mummy and daddy met.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 15:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Actually, all kids will probably be Interweb mentalists by then, and they'll think you're all really cool and ahead of your time.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 15:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Actually, all kids will probably be Interweb mentalists by then, and they'll think you're all really cool and ahead of your time.

This never happens...they'll be using carrier pigeons and tin cans on a piece of string to annoy you.

winterland, Wednesday, 7 April 2004 15:09 (twenty-one years ago)

It will be charming and olde twentieth century, like if your own parents met as pen pals!

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 15:10 (twenty-one years ago)

"I found the bottle washed up on the shore...and inside was a letter from your Mother"

winterland, Wednesday, 7 April 2004 15:11 (twenty-one years ago)

I never try to defend ILX.

N. (nickdastoor), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 15:11 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't defend ILX, but I do have to defend the amount of time I spend there... and how worked up I must appear to outsiders watching me do this.

Super-Kate (kate), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 15:12 (twenty-one years ago)

my parents met at a jewish singles mixer in queens in the mid '70s. suddenly "at a FAP" doesn't sound so bad.

stockholm cindy (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 15:12 (twenty-one years ago)

I think I feel fine defending ILX as I'm also so critical of it. Swings and, indeed, roundabouts.

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 15:13 (twenty-one years ago)

...I mean, it's better if I shout at/get in arguments/make dirty-old-woman comments towards random internet mentalists than if I did towards, say, my boss, my colleagues or my partner!

(Except maybe the DOW comments.)

Super-Kate (kate), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 15:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Vicky and I didn't meet through ILx though did we?......

chris (chris), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 15:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes, but a message board about an indie band sounds even worse!

N. (nickdastoor), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 15:16 (twenty-one years ago)

exactly!

chris (chris), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 15:16 (twenty-one years ago)

If offered a modest sum of money I would turn the whole lot of you in to the authorities.

Hammond Eggars (lawrence kansas), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 15:16 (twenty-one years ago)

my parents met at a jewish singles mixer in queens in the mid '70s.

Jody, that sounds really cool to me!

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 15:22 (twenty-one years ago)

jewsish singles mixer fap?

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 15:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Why would anyone defend ilx? Seriously.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 16:11 (twenty-one years ago)

We should get Kurt Nimmo in for the job.

N. (nickdastoor), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 16:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Crappo google surfing error. I mean Jacques Verges.

N. (nickdastoor), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 16:35 (twenty-one years ago)

(ie. he's the guy who defended Nazi war criminals and now Saddam Hussein)

N. (nickdastoor), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 16:36 (twenty-one years ago)

I do wonder who strongo was defending ilx to though.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 16:38 (twenty-one years ago)

"it was better in the old days" (haha just kidding)

"oh, you must've caught it on a bad day"

"oh, I don't usually bother with those long argument threads"

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 16:46 (twenty-one years ago)

when my girlfriemd challenged me about how much time i waste here (supposed to be getting a job) a told her how to use search and view my entries, as evidence that it was all good, productive, useful stuff. yeah, what was i thinking etc...

paulhw (paulhw), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 20:55 (twenty-one years ago)

I do wonder who strongo was defending ilx to though.

Josh, probably. I can count the people who have actually 100% properly stopped posting to ILX on the fingers of one hand.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 21:15 (twenty-one years ago)

ILX is sort of the Fight Club in my life. But I only talk about ILX people I know IRL to people who don't post here, for ex. Anna and I are always meeting each others' colleagues/friends. You don't have to say where you met someone - unless it's your boyfriend, of course. And then the answer is 'at a picnic on my roof'.

suzy (suzy), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 22:45 (twenty-one years ago)

like meeting online is any worse than meeting at a bar.

oops (Oops), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 22:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh, it is.

N. (nickdastoor), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 22:48 (twenty-one years ago)

you must be going to some classy bars, i mean pubs, then

oops (Oops), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 22:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, my policy is that I find it difficult to relay what someone I only know from online has said because of having to go on a great big tangent, which really isn't germaine to most of my friends. But I'm lucky in that it's kind of seamless in ways due to having friends who post here who were around before the interweb. People who are techy tend to get it, though. My mum, however, thinks the internet is full of perverts and conspiracy theorists, at least on a social level (she knows Nick posts here).

Also the meeting question kind of rests on your definition of the word meeting, and mine is face-to-face. Come to think of it, I meet future boyfriends at parties of various shapes and sizes, not bars. Ever. Weird.

suzy (suzy), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 22:58 (twenty-one years ago)

There are more people on ILX than in the pub so the ratio of wankers is less

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 23:00 (twenty-one years ago)

oh i dunno about that

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 23:00 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm sorry I catch you off guard when I refer to you as "jess," strongo

Matos W.K. (M Matos), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 23:05 (twenty-one years ago)

it's when you call me up and start asking for strongo that i'm gonna be worried

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 23:06 (twenty-one years ago)

"HULKINGTON!"

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 23:06 (twenty-one years ago)

i imagine that in a j. jonah jameson voice

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 23:06 (twenty-one years ago)

boy am I glad that whole thing faded into nothing, and I'd prefer to keep it that way, pls.

Matos W.K. (M Matos), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 23:06 (twenty-one years ago)

your secret identity is safe with me, spidey

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 23:07 (twenty-one years ago)

oops

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 23:08 (twenty-one years ago)

A defense? I dunno, I like this kind of stuff, though I don't think it was dumb at all!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 23:08 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm actually pretty happy with ilx these days

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 23:09 (twenty-one years ago)

except forrrrrrrrrrr...

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 23:11 (twenty-one years ago)

haha except for nothing!

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 23:12 (twenty-one years ago)

i mean it's as good/bad as it ever was i guess. i just dont take it seriously AT ALL these days.

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 23:12 (twenty-one years ago)

I only buy it for the gig guide anyway.

N. (nickdastoor), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 23:19 (twenty-one years ago)
