I just met Jaymc's brother

His name is Mark, he's thinking about attending the grad program for visual studies here, and he stopped by the library just now to see if I was in -- I normally wouldn't be here this late but I'm off to see A Perfect Circle with some coworkers and so happened to be around. Very friendly fellow! We chatted a bit and perhaps he'll end up in school here. Small world!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 23:07 (twenty-one years ago)

haha that's kinda weird

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 23:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh hahaha! He told me he was going to do that.

phil-two (phil-two), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 23:11 (twenty-one years ago)

You mean there's more than one of them?

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Thursday, 8 April 2004 02:06 (twenty-one years ago)

He lurks, too!

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 8 April 2004 03:30 (twenty-one years ago)

And posts, once in a great, great while.

Nice to hear you had a good chat, Ned. He's a good kid.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 8 April 2004 03:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Yus. He seems worthy and cool!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 8 April 2004 05:44 (twenty-one years ago)

I met an ilxor's brother at Thanksgiving.

tokyo rosemary (rosemary), Thursday, 8 April 2004 12:43 (twenty-one years ago)

was it mine?

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 8 April 2004 12:46 (twenty-one years ago)

no

tokyo rosemary (rosemary), Thursday, 8 April 2004 13:01 (twenty-one years ago)

good because that dickhead owes me five dollars

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 8 April 2004 13:07 (twenty-one years ago)

We chatted a bit and perhaps he'll end up in school here.

There's no longer any "perhaps" about it. Get ready, Ned, cuz he's coming your way.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 21 April 2004 03:02 (twenty-one years ago)

*cackles gleefully* Okay, first thing that punk has to learn is that if he's ever a TA for anyone, he puts stuff on reserves *before* the goddamn deadline. And then I won't kill him.

(More seriously -- OR IS IT? -- rah! :-) So you have to visit too of course.)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 21 April 2004 03:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Indeed!

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 21 April 2004 03:08 (twenty-one years ago)

I really just based my grad school decision on the ironic hipness factor of the mascot--I'm going to load up on Anteater gear. Then transfer to UC Santa Cruz.

robots in love (robotsinlove), Friday, 23 April 2004 18:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Your tax dollars at work:

"BERKELEY: Golden Bears--The first campus, the first bear and the best bear.
DAVIS: Aggies--Just spent $40,000 to design a new Aggie logo with a cut-off horse's head, like the one in the Godfather.
IRVINE: Anteaters--inspired by anteater in the 'B.C.' comic strip, it defeated Eagles, Unicorns, Golden Bears (not again) and Seahawks in a 1965 student election.
LOS ANGELES: Bruins--Upstart copycat bears, dubbed 'Bruin' because the true bears already represented Berkeley.
RIVERSIDE: Highlanders--The Highlander is actually another (guess what) bear, but this time it's wearing a silly blue Scotch plaid.
SAN DIEGO: Tritons--son of Poseidon, with human head and fish tail that makes for difficult open-field running. At least it's not a bear.
SAN FRANCISCO: Position Vacant--Lab Rats and Syringes won votes in 1998 non-binding poll.
SANTA BARBARA: Gauchos--The Gaucho, a South American cowboy, edged out the Roadrunner in 1934.
SANTA CRUZ: Banana Slugs--the Banana Slugs, a student favorite, defeated the administration-backed Sea Lions in a 1986 vote. Voted best mascot in the nation in 1992 poll conducted by National Directory of College Athletics."

gygax! (gygax!), Friday, 23 April 2004 18:14 (twenty-one years ago)

wow--i had no idea they were ALL so wacky.

robots in love (robotsinlove), Friday, 23 April 2004 18:21 (twenty-one years ago)

The SF one is kinda in-jokey ("The UCSF Lab Rats") as it is strictly a medical school (no undergrad or non-medical grad programs).

gygax! (gygax!), Friday, 23 April 2004 18:22 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm having dinner with him tonight...

kelsey (kelstarry), Friday, 23 April 2004 18:30 (twenty-one years ago)

i am jaymc's brother

robots in love (robotsinlove), Friday, 23 April 2004 18:39 (twenty-one years ago)

and, i didn't know you were on ILX, Kelsey. I thought you just stuck to posts about laundry detergent and vegan chocholate chip cookies.

robots in love (robotsinlove), Friday, 23 April 2004 18:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Ira's not in the office this week. Nuff said.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 23 April 2004 18:42 (twenty-one years ago)

man, i'm bored to tears over here at the receptionist job. i wonder why i haven't been posting on ILX MORE.
Are you going to Huettenbar, jaymc?

robots in love (robotsinlove), Friday, 23 April 2004 18:43 (twenty-one years ago)

No, can't make it in time. I'll be at the restaurant at 7. You get to meet Renee, aren't you excited?

It feels weird for you to call me "jaymc."

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 23 April 2004 18:44 (twenty-one years ago)

well, i'm trying to protect your anonymity. Yeah, I'm way excited to meet Renee. Anything I should know before hand? And I'm excited to go to RC; I haven't seen a lot of those folks in a long time, even if they are your friends. And, pizza.

robots in love (robotsinlove), Friday, 23 April 2004 18:47 (twenty-one years ago)

I really just based my grad school decision on the ironic hipness factor of the mascot--I'm going to load up on Anteater gear. Then transfer to UC Santa Cruz.

Ya cheap punk. But that's okay, I'm not hurt.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 23 April 2004 18:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Regent Ned says:

robots in love (robotsinlove), Friday, 23 April 2004 18:54 (twenty-one years ago)

mark,

are you going to the bar?

kelsey (kelstarry), Friday, 23 April 2004 18:54 (twenty-one years ago)

also: when did i post on vegan cookies? that sounds like a marvelous idea!

kelsey (kelstarry), Friday, 23 April 2004 18:55 (twenty-one years ago)

i have to go to the bank first, go home, pick up my bike, and head over. so, probably like 6:15-6:30.

robots in love (robotsinlove), Friday, 23 April 2004 18:55 (twenty-one years ago)

i dunno, just seems like something you'd do. isn't it funny to think that we'll all be having a real conversation later. nobody mention a word about what was said here, or i'll be upset. i can't imagine the utter awkwardness of FAPs.

robots in love (robotsinlove), Friday, 23 April 2004 18:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Wait, are you commanding me to never speak of this conversation IRL?

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 23 April 2004 18:59 (twenty-one years ago)

o mark. you & your message board paranoia.

kelsey (kelstarry), Friday, 23 April 2004 18:59 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm going to tell EVERYONE that you went to the bank first!

kelsey (kelstarry), Friday, 23 April 2004 18:59 (twenty-one years ago)

& as far as me posting here...my least popular moment was when i commented on someone's premenstrual girlfriend using her symptoms as a scapegoat.

kelsey (kelstarry), Friday, 23 April 2004 19:00 (twenty-one years ago)

....that one did some real damage.

kelsey (kelstarry), Friday, 23 April 2004 19:00 (twenty-one years ago)

and don't ever use the phrase IRL IRL.

robots in love (robotsinlove), Friday, 23 April 2004 19:00 (twenty-one years ago)

ROTFLMAO.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 23 April 2004 19:02 (twenty-one years ago)

i actually chuckled out loud at that. or is it aloud?

i'm leaving work at FIVE today!!!!!! that has NEVER HAPPPENED!

kelsey (kelstarry), Friday, 23 April 2004 19:03 (twenty-one years ago)

HAPPPENED = HAPPENED

kelsey (kelstarry), Friday, 23 April 2004 19:05 (twenty-one years ago)

This is the thread where my brother and ex-girlfriend take over ILX.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 23 April 2004 19:06 (twenty-one years ago)

2 more hours til i get out of this hellhole. kelsey did you drive to work?

robots in love (robotsinlove), Friday, 23 April 2004 19:06 (twenty-one years ago)

yes. are you downtown?

kelsey (kelstarry), Friday, 23 April 2004 19:06 (twenty-one years ago)

**kelsey and robots high five**

robots in love (robotsinlove), Friday, 23 April 2004 19:07 (twenty-one years ago)

i can go to the bank when i go to Redline. Wanna pick me up and go to the bar?

robots in love (robotsinlove), Friday, 23 April 2004 19:07 (twenty-one years ago)

jaymc,
don't be bitter. it was bound to happen.
too much to carry on your own shoulders.

i need to edit some david sedaris story right now.

kelsey (kelstarry), Friday, 23 April 2004 19:08 (twenty-one years ago)

actually, scrap the idea of picking me up--too complicated.

robots in love (robotsinlove), Friday, 23 April 2004 19:09 (twenty-one years ago)

***kelsey high fives robots extra enthusiastically***

sure. where you at?

kelsey (kelstarry), Friday, 23 April 2004 19:09 (twenty-one years ago)

why? i'm on navy pier...it's the center of the universe.

kelsey (kelstarry), Friday, 23 April 2004 19:09 (twenty-one years ago)

150 e huron, right off Mich Ave/Chicago. pretty close.

robots in love (robotsinlove), Friday, 23 April 2004 19:10 (twenty-one years ago)

the similarity is only name-deep.

robots in love (robotsinlove), Friday, 23 April 2004 19:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, you do share a first name.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 23 April 2004 19:47 (twenty-one years ago)

beat you to it.

robots in love (robotsinlove), Friday, 23 April 2004 19:47 (twenty-one years ago)

It's slick but also a little skeevy, don't you think? It was in the Baltimore Sun.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 23 April 2004 19:47 (twenty-one years ago)

i think ira looks extra smug in that pic. or, like Ferris Bueller's best friend, Cameron.

robots in love (robotsinlove), Friday, 23 April 2004 19:48 (twenty-one years ago)

he sure looks like somethin'

kelsey (kelstarry), Friday, 23 April 2004 19:49 (twenty-one years ago)

maybe like he just got out of the shower?

kelsey (kelstarry), Friday, 23 April 2004 19:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Wasn't Cameron a regular on Spin City? Or am I thinking of someone else?

You two realize that I'm getting absolutely NO work done today, right?

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 23 April 2004 19:51 (twenty-one years ago)

neither am i. it's really dumb, actually.

kelsey (kelstarry), Friday, 23 April 2004 19:51 (twenty-one years ago)

I should get my younger brother to start a thread. But he's an insufferable bore.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Friday, 23 April 2004 19:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Wasn't there some Get Your Mom to Post on ILX thread once?

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 23 April 2004 19:54 (twenty-one years ago)

i hope that's not a thinly veiled attempt to tell me to stop posting on ILX

robots in love (robotsinlove), Friday, 23 April 2004 19:54 (twenty-one years ago)

This is the thread where you get your Mum to post to ILX!

Sam's mom posted!

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 23 April 2004 19:56 (twenty-one years ago)

mark you insufferable bore! bring me some ciggies!

kelsey (kelstarry), Friday, 23 April 2004 19:57 (twenty-one years ago)

i hope that's not a thinly veiled attempt to tell me to stop posting on ILX

I thought it was a compliment! As in, "If my brother posted on ILX, it wouldn't be as entertaining as this thread has been!"

Anyway, @d@m's cool.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 23 April 2004 19:57 (twenty-one years ago)

john,

jeff just pointed out that i'm writing about him from his studio chair (he who i will not mention by name) ..... so wrong...

kelsey (kelstarry), Friday, 23 April 2004 19:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Not as wrong as when I.G. eventually finds this thread someday.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 23 April 2004 19:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Actually, I think we're fine as long as nobody types his full name.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 23 April 2004 20:01 (twenty-one years ago)

well, if @da@m has managed to find some redeeming quality in this nonsense, it's all worthwhile. i'm seriously counting down the minutes over here.

robots in love (robotsinlove), Friday, 23 April 2004 20:01 (twenty-one years ago)

oh hey mark. it was nice eating mexican food with you. except mine was kind of gross.

phil-two (phil-two), Friday, 23 April 2004 20:03 (twenty-one years ago)

ewww. i just saw a photo of a bloody foot on friendster.

kelsey (kelstarry), Friday, 23 April 2004 20:06 (twenty-one years ago)

did anyone glance over the "having kids classic or dud" thing? it seems kind of ridiculous. i know that j will expect this kind of comment from me.

kelsey (kelstarry), Friday, 23 April 2004 20:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Hmmm.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 23 April 2004 20:07 (twenty-one years ago)

hey phil-two, i had the EXACT same thing you do; i ate it all, but it was kind of gross. Despite living in Logan Square, I've never had truly outstanding Mexican food...maybe taquerias will no longer cut it.

robots in love (robotsinlove), Friday, 23 April 2004 20:12 (twenty-one years ago)

[Insert Ned post here about how you have good Mexican food to look forward to in southern California.]

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 23 April 2004 20:13 (twenty-one years ago)

avocados = green gold.

robots in love (robotsinlove), Friday, 23 April 2004 20:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Sir, you are moving to SoCal, we will feed you proper Mexican food.

XPOST DAMMIT

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 23 April 2004 20:15 (twenty-one years ago)

hey john, have you heard about this new restaurant right by Sonoteque Green Zebra? Almost exclusively vegetarian by the chef/owner of Spring.

robots in love (robotsinlove), Friday, 23 April 2004 20:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, it sounds good. I think it just opened last week.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 23 April 2004 20:17 (twenty-one years ago)

(Haha, Ned. Right into my trap.)

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 23 April 2004 20:18 (twenty-one years ago)

The aesthetics of the place are great--lots of little bonsai trees. I walked by the other day and snooped around; no menu in the window, however. Same kind of organic/seasonal thing as Mod, Lula, etc. Now: ramps, leeks, fava beans, asparagus.

robots in love (robotsinlove), Friday, 23 April 2004 20:20 (twenty-one years ago)

It's also $$$$.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 23 April 2004 20:21 (twenty-one years ago)

there are some really darling people on this website. i was browsing a mostly female post & this little charmer comes in with this one:

Sorry! They pushed me in the door! I didn't see anything! *runs out, blushing*

-- Anthony Miccio (anthonymicci...), February 19th, 2003.

isn't that cute?

kelsey (kelstarry), Friday, 23 April 2004 20:21 (twenty-one years ago)

mark--i know it's not near where you'll be, but if you go up to san francisco, you can go to millenium. it's fancy vegan. also $$$$

kelsey (kelstarry), Friday, 23 April 2004 20:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Kelsey, believe me, it's not cute once you get to know Anthony.

(just kidding)

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 23 April 2004 20:26 (twenty-one years ago)

expensive/non-hippy vegetarian food: c/d

there was a great place in Vienna called Wrenck...and they opened a little lunch-stand near my school. Schmeckt mir gut.

robots in love (robotsinlove), Friday, 23 April 2004 20:28 (twenty-one years ago)

four months pass...
hello jaymc's brother. might i ask you some questions abt the visual studies program?

amateur!!!st (amateurist), Tuesday, 14 September 2004 03:11 (twenty years ago)

And are you finally here yet! I gather you were en route or about to arrive.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 14 September 2004 03:16 (twenty years ago)

Easy, guys! He's probably passed out at a truckstop in Kearney, Nebraska right now.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 14 September 2004 04:43 (twenty years ago)

Such familial devotion.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 14 September 2004 11:54 (twenty years ago)

filial?

amateur!!!st (amateurist), Tuesday, 14 September 2004 13:52 (twenty years ago)

That works too.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 14 September 2004 13:59 (twenty years ago)

...

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 17 September 2004 19:42 (twenty years ago)

Talked to him today via e-mail. He is going to spend tonight possibly getting drunk at Steelhead Brewery across the street (I have encouraged him in this task).

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 17 September 2004 20:05 (twenty years ago)

Yay!

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 17 September 2004 20:10 (twenty years ago)

he is called mark

adam. (nordicskilla), Friday, 17 September 2004 20:17 (twenty years ago)

I KNOW THAT, you Spirited Away hater.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 17 September 2004 20:19 (twenty years ago)

He doesn't even tell his own brother that he is safe in California, but he takes the time to give Phil-Two advice on clothes shopping in Chicago. For shame.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 17 September 2004 20:20 (twenty years ago)

Ohhh, RIL = the brother of yours i met. I only have vague recollections of that night. losing money in the cigarette machine, picking guacamole off his plate, getting drunk and forgetting that in chicago, one has to drive home.

phil-two (phil-two), Friday, 17 September 2004 20:24 (twenty years ago)

One is better off taking the train, though.

Tonight at ten (kenan), Friday, 17 September 2004 20:25 (twenty years ago)
