Pity poor Matt DC, dirty warehouses have broken me

Last night I fell down a full flight of metallic stairs on a disastrous booze-finding mission at Charlie No.4's big warehouse party in East London. This afternoon I woke up to find blood all over my sheets and a big hole in the side of my ankle. It really hurts. I can't walk. Thankfully there's nothing broken because the idea of not being match fit for Glastonbury was very upsetting - I'm going to be a nervous wreck by the time I finally make it to the festival.

Also the arse of my jeans was covered in green slime from where I slipped down a set of riverside steps earlier that evening. Steps are evil - does anyone know of a nice bungalow to rent?

I hold ILX, and therefore all of you, personally responsible for the fact that I was too busy texting my friend to concentrate on how many steps there were.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Sunday, 23 May 2004 16:51 (twenty-one years ago)

I still danced to Lucky Star on one leg though = I am ArdKore.

I'm going to have to FAP on crutches. Curse you Colette and your upstairs bar!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Sunday, 23 May 2004 16:53 (twenty-one years ago)

My sympathies, Matt. It does show that mobile phones are indeed dangerous to your health, as has been claimed.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Sunday, 23 May 2004 16:57 (twenty-one years ago)

did the end of the text go...

ARRRGHHHHHHHHHHH

?

jel -- (jel), Sunday, 23 May 2004 16:58 (twenty-one years ago)

(also, sensible: do you need to get the wound seen to?)

jel -- (jel), Sunday, 23 May 2004 17:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Mobile phones are bad for your health, as is sheer idiocy. I almost fell in the Thames yesterday and still I do not learn.

But I got to lie on a blanket for half an hour with a cute girl as a result. I also consequently told two *very* dodgy looking geezers trying to get into the party at 5am to fuck off. Thank god the taxi arrived otherwise I might be dead by now.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Sunday, 23 May 2004 17:00 (twenty-one years ago)

I've been to the hospital today - the wound is fine. I have no idea how it happened though.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Sunday, 23 May 2004 17:02 (twenty-one years ago)

I hope you've washed those blood-stained sheets, too.

C J (C J), Sunday, 23 May 2004 18:55 (twenty-one years ago)

else the char will think you've been at the virgins again.

Skottie, Sunday, 23 May 2004 18:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Matt, you are an aardcore? That puts you ahead of even the aardvark and aardwolf in the dictionary. Woo hoo!

Sorry about the nasty bite I took out of your ankle. I was trying to extract the venom and got carried away.

Aimless (Aimless), Sunday, 23 May 2004 19:02 (twenty-one years ago)

IDIOT MATT DC

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 23 May 2004 19:50 (twenty-one years ago)

haha

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Sunday, 23 May 2004 19:50 (twenty-one years ago)

What base did you get to with the cute girl?

Dave B (daveb), Sunday, 23 May 2004 19:58 (twenty-one years ago)

popped a foul ball

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Sunday, 23 May 2004 19:58 (twenty-one years ago)

owwwww.

i have a completely black toe as a result of a walking/running/dancing-into-the-door-while-listening-to-miss-kittin-getting-in-the-mood-to-go-out accident yesterday. i feel rather stupid as a result.

toby (tsg20), Sunday, 23 May 2004 20:00 (twenty-one years ago)

This thread is quite "grimey".

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Sunday, 23 May 2004 20:15 (twenty-one years ago)

pick urself up

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Sunday, 23 May 2004 20:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Down, down, down we go.

Dave - I didn't try it. I don't think women find bleeding cripples particularly attractive.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Sunday, 23 May 2004 20:36 (twenty-one years ago)

no, but bones heal, and chicks dig scars.

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Sunday, 23 May 2004 20:37 (twenty-one years ago)

chicks dig scars with sharp emotional salt covered shovels

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 23 May 2004 20:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Tis true - a mate of mine had his ribcage sawn open in a complicated operation a few years ago. He's got some mental scars, looks like he has two navels and is more irresistably attractive to women than anyone else I know, apparently.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Sunday, 23 May 2004 20:41 (twenty-one years ago)

I slipped on some seaweed this afternoon and very nearly brained myself on a concrete slope. I was sober though.

Sick Mouthy (Nick Southall), Sunday, 23 May 2004 21:27 (twenty-one years ago)

I had to go for a pee in some bushes on the way up the road last night and was attacked by some stingy nettles. Which hurt. A lot. I wasn't very sober at the time.

ailsa (ailsa), Sunday, 23 May 2004 21:29 (twenty-one years ago)

i have been broken for months:(

gareth (gareth), Sunday, 23 May 2004 21:30 (twenty-one years ago)

since february 21st i think

gareth (gareth), Sunday, 23 May 2004 21:30 (twenty-one years ago)

I went for a pee behind a bush on my birthday, and a deer was looking at my wang!

Sick Mouthy (Nick Southall), Sunday, 23 May 2004 21:31 (twenty-one years ago)

I think February 21st broke me as well.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Sunday, 23 May 2004 21:42 (twenty-one years ago)

the ones who say "you can't mix this with that" broke me.

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 23 May 2004 21:48 (twenty-one years ago)

matt, i think the lesson was that you shouldn't text people so much! which i've been saying to you for ages...

(but i do feel really sorry for you-- especially that you were in so much pain that the neurofen from my mom bag didn't help!)

colette (a2lette), Monday, 24 May 2004 08:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Ouch, sounds painful. You gotta be match fit for glasto, you just gotta!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 24 May 2004 08:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Get well soon - but was the mobile phone to blame or the amount of alcohol you'd consumed the real culprit?

Dadaismus (Dada), Monday, 24 May 2004 08:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Maybe he was 'texting ahead'?

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 24 May 2004 09:01 (twenty-one years ago)

that's ma boy

stevem (blueski), Monday, 24 May 2004 09:02 (twenty-one years ago)

That sucks Matt. If it's any help, I've asked my Mother to pray for you. She's fabulous.

LC, Monday, 24 May 2004 09:04 (twenty-one years ago)

GWSMDC

Maybe you could arrange to have yourself carted around Glasto in a sedan chair.

robster (robster), Monday, 24 May 2004 09:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Maybe you could arrange to have yourself carted around Glasto in a sedan chair.

this is true...there are a lot of people that seem to think they 'owe' you something...could actually work!

colette (a2lette), Monday, 24 May 2004 09:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Maybe you could arrange to have yourself carted around Glasto in a sedan chair.

yes, it has to be one with curtains, which you twitch occasionally to look out, ppl would wonder WHO CAN THIS BE????

MarkH (MarkH), Monday, 24 May 2004 09:41 (twenty-one years ago)

ah i wondered what a sedan chair was at first, i assume it is now one you sit on while four loyal minions support each corner (via two poles). i am up for being one of the minions as this spectacle is too good in mind not to happen for real, healed ankle or no healed ankle.

stevem (blueski), Monday, 24 May 2004 09:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Think yer basic ones only take two minions. Four minions might be needed for off-roading though.

robster (robster), Monday, 24 May 2004 09:47 (twenty-one years ago)

I suggested here that a sedan chair might be RJG's preferred mode of transport. Is he going to glasto too?

MarkH (MarkH), Monday, 24 May 2004 09:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Fuck this injury shit, you people owe me bigtime. You are carrying me around in a sedan chair whether I can walk or not.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 24 May 2004 12:36 (twenty-one years ago)

YES MY LIEGE

stevem (blueski), Monday, 24 May 2004 12:37 (twenty-one years ago)

From mentalist to spastic mentalist.

I hope you can walk by the time I see you again.

Crickets Dance On Tequila Booty (Barima), Monday, 24 May 2004 13:29 (twenty-one years ago)

two weeks pass...
Okay, physio health types - should a sprained ankle still be swollen after 16 days? All the bruising has pretty much gone, the cut is visibly healing, the swelling has gone down considerably but doesn't appear to have gone down for the first couple of days... I'm considering going back to the hospital tonight to get it checked out.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 11:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Sprains can take months to heal properly - stretchy tube support bandages are good for aiding compression although will be a bit warm in this weather. I've sprained both my ankles badly several times over the years and they're never going to be as strong as they once were again.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 12:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah I've injured this one before, about five years ago, which probably left it kind of weakened. I'm just wondering whether the swelling should have gone down by now (as my marathon-running co-worker claims), or if I might have fractured something small (although it was x-rayed). I can more or less walk now - ie across a room or so forth, but have to rely on crutches to support most of the weight if I'm going much further, and anything with a slope is a bit of a nightmare. So I know its getting better but not as quickly as I might have hoped :(

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 12:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Eep. You might have crunched some wee bones, I guess - there are so many in the foot and it's fairly easy to do. Probably best to see a doctor now they'll be able to see what's going on a bit better. Hope it's sorted for Glastonbury.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 12:18 (twenty-one years ago)

If they didn't see anything on the x-ray last time, the only thing they might do is stick your ankle in plaster for precaution, though I'm not sure if they do that. When I broke my ankle, I got it x-rayed 6 days afterwards, and it had already started healing up and barely showed up on the x-ray, so there would be no point in x-raying yours again, I wouldn't have thought, as they didn't pick it up last time

Needless to say, if they decide it was broken, then they'll stick it in plaster and that'll be you for 6 weeks......

Vicky (Vicky), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 12:44 (twenty-one years ago)

I very much doubt its broken, seeing as I can now stand on my left leg on its own without feeling any pain. There's a twinge at the back that didn't hurt before but I think that might be stiffness/pulling a muscle that was otherwise fine but doing all the work, etc. Like I say, I can feel and see it getting better but I don't understand why its still so inflamed, basically. I'm hoping they give me drugs to make it go away ;)

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 12:49 (twenty-one years ago)

By 'it', you mean 'you'?

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 13:11 (twenty-one years ago)

My ankle is still quite a bit swollen and I twisted it back in March (a couple of weeks before ATP), apparently not nearly as badly as you did.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 13:15 (twenty-one years ago)

you could try ringing the nhs hotline?

toby (tsg20), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 13:18 (twenty-one years ago)

nhs direct, even.

toby (tsg20), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 13:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Would it not be better just to go to the hospital and have it looked at?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 13:19 (twenty-one years ago)

If it helps, Matt, the minor injuries walk-in centre people at Barts were very nice and helpful with me yesterday - try that maybe? Better than A&E, anyway.

Markelby (Mark C), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 13:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Sprains and twists can be a rgiht bugger. I had one that took a month to get better and as much again to build back up to strength.

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 13:21 (twenty-one years ago)

well the phone call option is good cos you can do that sat at your desk without any effort.

toby (tsg20), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 13:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Ow, Mark - what did you do to yerself then? Yeah, there's a minor injuries place at Lewisham Hospital which I was planning on using, also it means I can go via my flat.

Also, much bigger concern than Glastonbury right now = I am moving house on Saturday.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 13:34 (twenty-one years ago)

According to my therapist colleagues:

The swelling should have gone down by now, but I wouldn't get concerned. Make sure you keep it elevated and keep ice on it and if after two more weeks it hasn't reduced, go see a doctor.

Marianna Longmire, Tuesday, 8 June 2004 14:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Hurrah for us loafing NHS employees! Excellent work Miss M.

Jaysis Matt, get loads of yr mates to help move - you'll kill yourself if you don't.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 14:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Matt, I dislocated my shoulder playing cricket on Sunday. It's getting better (i.e. less painful) but the nurse practitioner reckons that I'll need surgery to prevent it from happening again and again (it's far from the first tiem it's happened) as it'll get worse each time.
