CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 13 August 2004 12:35 (twenty-one years ago)

And it's Alan's birthday party, sort of!

Birthday Gnome, Friday, 13 August 2004 12:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Marvellous. Crumbs, isn't there a Rocktor C FAP the Tuesday that week as well? Mmm mentalist socialising.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Friday, 13 August 2004 12:42 (twenty-one years ago)

hmm, it's not on the calendar...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 13 August 2004 12:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Can I go?

dog latin (dog latin), Friday, 13 August 2004 12:49 (twenty-one years ago)

oh - it's on a thursday :-(

dog latin (dog latin), Friday, 13 August 2004 12:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Take Friday off!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 13 August 2004 12:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Also Steve and Anna DJing back to back will be the most rocking thing ever.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 13 August 2004 12:51 (twenty-one years ago)

I am supposed to have Fridays off these days, though that has gone by the wayside lately grr. So I *might* be able to come woo.

Archel (Archel), Friday, 13 August 2004 12:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Dr C-proposed FAP. Had to search for 'glasshouse billiards'.

FAP Tuesday Aug 24th

Liz :x (Liz :x), Friday, 13 August 2004 13:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Not exactly "special guests," is it?

Marcello Carlin, Friday, 13 August 2004 13:15 (twenty-one years ago)

ooh stick you

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Friday, 13 August 2004 13:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Now, Daphne and Celeste - that's what I call SPECIAL GUESTS!

Marcello Carlin, Friday, 13 August 2004 13:22 (twenty-one years ago)

No, it's Special DJ Guests.

They're special coz they're not bald. And they smile. And they don't play white label German trance.

MarkH (MarkH), Friday, 13 August 2004 13:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah well the principle holds. Special DJ Guests should mean proper DJs, like Tim Westwood or Richard Allinson.

Marcello Carlin, Friday, 13 August 2004 13:24 (twenty-one years ago)

No Whispering Bob?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 13 August 2004 13:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Richard Allinson? he's a DJ with nowt taken out!

MarkH (MarkH), Friday, 13 August 2004 13:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Get Ken Bruce, he can't be that expensive. You could have a live Freaky Trigger POPMASTER quiz!

Marcello Carlin, Friday, 13 August 2004 13:26 (twenty-one years ago)

I would do an ILM Poll winners set but...we hear most of them at Club FT often anyway...so no...

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Friday, 13 August 2004 13:36 (twenty-one years ago)

I'll pay two quid for a special anti-request for no c#nting Scissor Sisters...

Big & Rich, Friday, 13 August 2004 13:37 (twenty-one years ago)

It's gonna take a lot more than £2 to stop me playing 'Tits On The Radio'

Also MC, what with your impending appearance on Resonance, I'm interpreting this as a desperate ploy to bag yourself a slot at a future Club FT, what with being a PROPER DJ and everything...what would you play?

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Friday, 13 August 2004 13:39 (twenty-one years ago)

i like white label german trance. please bring some ok thx bye.

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Friday, 13 August 2004 13:41 (twenty-one years ago)

i want to see people on the dancefloor for this:

The Knife 'Heartbeats'

toby (tsg20), Friday, 13 August 2004 13:41 (twenty-one years ago)

hello i've missed that, sounds like good downloadin'

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Friday, 13 August 2004 13:42 (twenty-one years ago)

is rob bringing the mcClusky album??

ken c (ken c), Friday, 13 August 2004 13:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Also Steve and Anna DJing back to back will be the most rocking thing ever.

-- Matt DC

Actually I plan to DJ from Steve's shoulders. (Dad joke)

Heartbeats is mine Manion. You can mix properly and aren't scared of EQs, so please let me keep the tune. Please?

Anna (Anna), Friday, 13 August 2004 14:15 (twenty-one years ago)

dont forget the acidhouse fap tonite at Bang Face

david acid (gareth), Friday, 13 August 2004 14:17 (twenty-one years ago)

temp-ta-shun. now i inhabit london i have to go out in it. i guess.

ENRG (Enrique), Friday, 13 August 2004 14:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Come on Enrique, I'll even play a record for you...

Anna (Anna), Friday, 13 August 2004 14:23 (twenty-one years ago)

ENRQ (Enrique), Friday, 13 August 2004 14:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Okay ... one that I've got (and like, sorry).

Anna (Anna), Friday, 13 August 2004 14:30 (twenty-one years ago)

a lot of work went in to make:

http://www.freakytrigger.co.uk/pictures/ft_club_aug.jpg

Jaunty Alan (Alan), Friday, 13 August 2004 14:33 (twenty-one years ago)

who is this Big Rich guy, does he post?

ENRG (Enrique), Friday, 13 August 2004 14:39 (twenty-one years ago)

RJG?

ken c (ken c), Friday, 13 August 2004 14:40 (twenty-one years ago)

He saves horses by riding cow boys.

Anna (Anna), Friday, 13 August 2004 14:42 (twenty-one years ago)

the small text at the bottom = "Big&Rich are not appearing as such, nor do they endorse FreakyTrigger, but we will be playing their records"

Jaunty Alan (Alan), Friday, 13 August 2004 14:44 (twenty-one years ago)

that Knife tune is great, remix even better! don't worry Anna i'm more concerned about someone else playing Dizzee's 'Dream' before i get the chance (MINE YOU BSTARDS)

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Friday, 13 August 2004 14:58 (twenty-one years ago)

The more I hear about your planned setlists, the more convinced I am that I should go to the Drones club in Stoke Newington instead. :-/

Super-Masonic Black Hole (kate), Friday, 13 August 2004 15:00 (twenty-one years ago)

A DJ friend of mine, handle of 'Fat Sam', warms up for Westwood occasionally. apparently Timmy is very protective about who gets to play 'Milkshake' etc. Is this normal DJ practice?

ENRG (Enrique), Friday, 13 August 2004 15:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Planned setlists is my schtick. IT'S A PERFORMANCE ;)

Okay since I am playing this one I am actually more motivated to actually leave flyers for it around places in Old Street and Islington...I can print out b&w ones here

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Friday, 13 August 2004 15:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Gah a club called 'Drones'!!!! Lor'. Evidence that there are more Evelyn Waugh fans than anarchsists in today's Stokey Newky.

ENRG (Enrique), Friday, 13 August 2004 15:02 (twenty-one years ago)

The only reason I get protective of certain tracks is because I always have ideas I want to try and do with them - segues, mashings etc. that other people are unlikely to be thinking of themselves - but at the end of the day I'm not gonna storm off in a huff because I can't play what I want, esp. as I am merely a guest.

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Friday, 13 August 2004 15:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Grrrr. It's a dronerock club, natch.

Super-Masonic Black Hole (kate), Friday, 13 August 2004 15:04 (twenty-one years ago)

in Stoke Newington? blimey

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Friday, 13 August 2004 15:05 (twenty-one years ago)

all you other djs face gonna be mashups...

ENRG (Enrique), Friday, 13 August 2004 15:05 (twenty-one years ago)

It's the Polite Brigade nowadays, like.

postie crossie

MikeyG (MikeyG), Friday, 13 August 2004 15:06 (twenty-one years ago)

that was a complete lie about not storming off in a huff btw

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Friday, 13 August 2004 15:12 (twenty-one years ago)

I thought Drones was a Wodehouse ref!

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Friday, 13 August 2004 15:14 (twenty-one years ago)

the only drone i've heard at Club FT is when Cabbage plays Weatherall mix of 'Soon'

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Friday, 13 August 2004 15:14 (twenty-one years ago)

there were a load of drones on the dance floor at the last FT (aka zombies)

ken c (ken c), Friday, 13 August 2004 15:20 (twenty-one years ago)

I was saying I could be All Hetero Man

"could" being the appropriate word, eh dear ;)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 27 August 2004 08:22 (twenty-one years ago)

I was made proud by all the people who knew the words to the rap in the middle bit of Juistified and Ancient.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 27 August 2004 08:41 (twenty-one years ago)

But Andrew, we're all from Mu Mu!

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Friday, 27 August 2004 08:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Confidential to Stevie T, as was too dusted to answer properly: the Bracewell/Frieze link is down to Andrew Renton who was the co-curator of the Frieze Goldsmith's show and is Linder Sterling's sometime gallerist.

suzy (suzy), Friday, 27 August 2004 09:07 (twenty-one years ago)

I once met Renton in the old Compendium bookshop in Camden and terrified him with my photographic memory of 1980s style magazines.

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Friday, 27 August 2004 09:28 (twenty-one years ago)

I hope you all have hangovers something rotten. ;-)

Sounds like a good time was had. Sorry I missed it.

Super-Masonic Black Hole (kate), Friday, 27 August 2004 09:36 (twenty-one years ago)

ken c (ken c), Friday, 27 August 2004 09:57 (twenty-one years ago)

JtN, that's fabulous - have done that too. AR has eyepatched pals in this parish.

suzy (suzy), Friday, 27 August 2004 09:59 (twenty-one years ago)

I really like my nose. Isn't it nice?

alix (alix), Friday, 27 August 2004 10:06 (twenty-one years ago)

It's gorgeous, petal. I just hurt myself suppressing laughter at the pictures while my boss was in the room.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Friday, 27 August 2004 10:09 (twenty-one years ago)

It's the captions that make me soil myself. Ken, I salute you. Not in a Nazi way though. Oh ho no.

alix (alix), Friday, 27 August 2004 10:11 (twenty-one years ago)

#51 is my favourite picture of Carsmile Steve ever.

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Friday, 27 August 2004 10:14 (twenty-one years ago)

well, whoever posted upthread while logged out about there being too many cameras around was clearly ignored!

nice captions ken. i'm pretty impressed with the photo i took of us.

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Friday, 27 August 2004 10:21 (twenty-one years ago)

actually was that kate's GOOP being consumed on pictures 27 and 28??

ken c (ken c), Friday, 27 August 2004 10:26 (twenty-one years ago)

url isn't working for me. 8(

koogs (koogs), Friday, 27 August 2004 10:48 (twenty-one years ago)

yahoo photo server is dumb :( hopefully will be back up later

ken c (ken c), Friday, 27 August 2004 10:56 (twenty-one years ago)

I am very sorry for being stupidly drunk. "You're all lovely!" "Nooo we are together in Electric Dreams". I burn with shame.

Anna (Anna), Friday, 27 August 2004 11:32 (twenty-one years ago)

B-but, Love Never Ends! No Matter How Far It Seems! Are you telling me these were empty words?

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 27 August 2004 11:57 (twenty-one years ago)

hope you got back ok andrew - my drunken self this morning totally forgot you were here and i was supposed to wake you up at 5 :(

ken c (ken c), Friday, 27 August 2004 11:59 (twenty-one years ago)

xpost - Also sorry to Ken for not leaving a thank-you note, but that's what you get for not waking me up, you slack bastard.

I got into Tottenham Hale at 6:26, to find that the 6:41 train was delayed to 6:56, and I = FUCT. Then at 6:41 the train arrived, everyone got on, and it left.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 27 August 2004 12:00 (twenty-one years ago)

PHEW! Glad the midnight WAP research at the bus stop paid off. You madman.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Friday, 27 August 2004 12:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Suzy, that wasn't very confidential.

the bellefox, Friday, 27 August 2004 13:00 (twenty-one years ago)

ken c, rob bolton and i all agreed there should be more Rage Against The Machine played at this bitch

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Friday, 27 August 2004 13:25 (twenty-one years ago)

FUCK YOU STEVEM I WON'T DO WHAT YOU TELL ME

club FT (ken c), Friday, 27 August 2004 13:27 (twenty-one years ago)

on the way home i composed a folky/acoustic, kings of convenience sytlee version of 'killing in the name of' in my head.
a hit in waiting, i think.

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Friday, 27 August 2004 13:31 (twenty-one years ago)

'stylee'

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Friday, 27 August 2004 13:32 (twenty-one years ago)

I have just had a look at debates upthread. I would like it if there were more indie classics at the club, sometimes. I liked N's post about Kingmaker and the one with which he followed it. I did not enjoy Guest DJ SteveM's set that much, in itself, though as JtN pointed out, he did look the part. I think that I liked Guest DJ Anna F's set more. Was it she who played '99 Red Balloons'?

the bellefox, Friday, 27 August 2004 15:41 (twenty-one years ago)

+, it was nice to talk to Suzy about FW.

the bellefox, Friday, 27 August 2004 15:41 (twenty-one years ago)

It was me who played '99 Red Ballons', yes.

Anna (Anna), Friday, 27 August 2004 16:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Carsmile was very keen on the fact that it was the German version.

Was there any special reason that you played it?

the bellefox, Friday, 27 August 2004 16:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Wrong version for me - I'm a big fan of the happy hardcore remix from years later.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 27 August 2004 22:53 (twenty-one years ago)

There was one happy hardcore mix on the night - think it was Destiny's Child.

But yes, it was tops - fantastic to finally meet Mr Rf too.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Friday, 27 August 2004 22:56 (twenty-one years ago)

There was drum n' bass Destiny's - props to Alan for clearing the dancefloor so i didn't have to ;) my set was in no way pinefox-friendly it is true (Dizzee, Scissors, Pulp, Prodigy, Betty Boo, Jaxx, Alcazar, Britney vs QOTSA, Kriss Kross, KLF, Bobby Brown blah blah).

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Saturday, 28 August 2004 10:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Someone else snorted white stuff off the bar!

Not what it sounds like. Much worse, probably. The white stuff being russian, which a) I'd talked the barman into making for me even though I'd missed last orders, b) I then embarrassingly didn't quite have enough enough money to pay for, and c) we proceeded to spill all over his bar. And the worst bit? After the snorting attempt it all just dribled back out of my nose and down my t-shirt and ohmygodI'mdisgustingkillmenow.

JimD (JimD), Saturday, 28 August 2004 10:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Two bs in dribbled.

JimD (JimD), Saturday, 28 August 2004 10:43 (twenty-one years ago)

...because the spelling error is the most embarassing part of that story.

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 28 August 2004 10:49 (twenty-one years ago)

spilling error

ken c (ken c), Saturday, 28 August 2004 10:52 (twenty-one years ago)

The sound was sufficiently poor during stevem's set that it was difficult to tell from the bar what was a bootleg and what wasn't.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Saturday, 28 August 2004 12:28 (twenty-one years ago)

My moment of the night = Cis and I doing synchronised Busted jumps.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Saturday, 28 August 2004 13:39 (twenty-one years ago)

I met Jim D. He works in computer games!!

the bellefox, Saturday, 28 August 2004 13:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Synchronised Busted jumps! SO GOOD.

Was a fantastic night. Apologies to anyone I was talking to and then suddenly went "omg ALCAZAR! omg V!" and ran off to the dancefloor mid-sentence; I was a little bit with the hyperactive. Also: SCATMAN WORLD. One of these days someone will do an extended 'rubbish white rapping in nineties pop music' sequence and my life will be complete.

I'm quite impressed with myself for knowing all the words to the mouse lived in a windmill song. Wait, no, impressed isn't quite the word.

cis (cis), Saturday, 28 August 2004 15:52 (twenty-one years ago)

great pictures, ken! (although the shoes one was taken at FT and not how does it feel) i spent all weekend in a computer-free cottage and i got a text while i was in norfolk about jim's white russian photo. absolutely classic.

i had a fantastic time, although drinks kept appearing in my hand (i probably kept asking people to buy them for me, to be fair) and so i don't remember much from the end of the night. alas.

ha, don't think there's any face-on pics of the pigtails, all the evidence is pretty sketchy. (put them in originally as an illustration that my hair was too long, and it spiralled from there)

more fun!

colette (a2lette), Monday, 30 August 2004 20:23 (twenty-one years ago)

The end of the night involved shouting in Sainsbury's, as all good nights do. It also involved leaving us (me & the lovely Ken) at a bus-stop only for us to find Liz, Rob & Marianna already there. Liz phoned the Journey Planner WAP service, and they agreed it was ridiculous.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 30 August 2004 20:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Colette, I think Ken was trying to say that the FT shoe shot he took was reminiscent of Ian W's rather erratic photo composition on the How Does It Feel website.

MarkH (MarkH), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 07:06 (twenty-one years ago)

...though trying to ascertain the Mind of Ken is a pretty erratic business in itself.

MarkH (MarkH), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 07:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Synchronised Busted jumps?!?!?!? I missed this?!?!?

Oh no!!!

(Though I'm still convinced that the previous Busted jumps were what fucked up my ankle.)

Super-Masonic Black Hole (kate), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 07:21 (twenty-one years ago)

The German version scans better Pinefox. Well, I think it does.
Kate, I played Electric Barbarella so you were there in spirit.

Anna (Anna), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 09:09 (twenty-one years ago)

The German version has Luftballon, but of course no-one much says "air balloons", so it became "red balloons" in the English versh, which used the same video, which featured balloons of many different colours.

I remember thinking that this was important, at the time.

MarkH (MarkH), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 09:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Hurrah for Electric Barbarella! Thank you, Anna!

Super-Masonic Black Hole (kate), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 09:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Hahahaha, Club FT was the first and ONLY instance of fun that I had on my London vacation so far! I took the subway back to the hotel, had a bite to eat and immediatley felt quite, quite ill. Turns out that I came down with a nasty case of flu that put me out of comission for the following days- still have a pretty bad cold, but am going Indie-Dancing tonight anyway, it being the last night I have in London and all.

But anyway, it was great fun! Apologies to Swygart, who I forgot to say goodbye to (your chart trivia knowedlege is awe-inspiring and a bit scary.)

I have pics, including some pretty good ones of colette and William. Will post them when I get back home.
