20 perhaps 30 people I moved out of the way to let past this weekend. Weather in shoritch or the West end or Stokey, I was a letting people by motherfucker.
I aint no punk now ya hear? Oh hell no I aint, but if I see that it is more practical to let your ass through, then that what i'll do. See I be a considerate thoughtful motherfucker, I would even go so far as to say I were raised right.
So I just have to ask, why the fuck did no one thank me, not even one of you? It aint hard, and i know you know english couse i could hear you loudly discussing your holliday and how beutiful whoeverthefuck looked at their wedding.
I know from the way you dress that you are fundamentally lacking in common sense, but really mutherfucker, a thankyou, is it that hard?

lukey (Lukey G), Monday, 20 September 2004 10:36 (twenty-one years ago)

it might be cos you have shit hair?

teh pow! (blueski), Monday, 20 September 2004 10:40 (twenty-one years ago)

*THANK* a person?

If you're in my way, and I'm trying to get somewhere, you're lucky if you get an "excuse me".

The 120 Days Of Streatham (kate), Monday, 20 September 2004 10:43 (twenty-one years ago)

jess (dubplatestyle), Monday, 20 September 2004 10:44 (twenty-one years ago)

lukey (Lukey G), Monday, 20 September 2004 10:46 (twenty-one years ago)

I be in too much of a hurry for the saying of thanks!

Grr!

Slow pedestrians give me such road rage, it's a good thing I don't own a car.

The 120 Days Of Streatham (kate), Monday, 20 September 2004 10:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Take sidestreets

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Monday, 20 September 2004 10:51 (twenty-one years ago)

I thought this pedestrian rage would go away if I moved out of central London. But now it's just transferred to BUS RAGE!!! ARRRRRRR!!!

The 120 Days Of Streatham (kate), Monday, 20 September 2004 10:51 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't get pedestrian rage, except when people just STOP WALKING in the middle of a crowded pavement. Don't even walk to the side, just stop, despite hundreds of people right behind them. Usually to read a gigantic map or something else than involves taking up as much space as possible.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 20 September 2004 10:53 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't really need much of an excuse to go into a RAGE! really.

The 120 Days Of Streatham (kate), Monday, 20 September 2004 10:53 (twenty-one years ago)

[more stupid racebaiting shit deleted]

RANDO, Monday, 20 September 2004 10:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Nah, I'm an equal opportunity misanthrope.

The 120 Days Of Streatham (kate), Monday, 20 September 2004 10:55 (twenty-one years ago)

x-post
no such thing, in a crowded bar, too much of a hurry? I call bullshit on that. Liverpool street station at quater to nine on monday morning, you dont thank me, thats ok, cause you in a hurry. The vibe bar at 3.30 on a sunday afternoon, you aint in a hurry, you self absorbed.

lukey (Lukey G), Monday, 20 September 2004 10:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, that's your fault for being in the Vibe Bar, isn't it, then?

I started a whole thread about the morons in there... dammit, where is it? I started it from their free computer terminals after all...

The 120 Days Of Streatham (kate), Monday, 20 September 2004 10:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh btw I'd have thanked you Lukey

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Monday, 20 September 2004 10:59 (twenty-one years ago)

ACtually, I lie:

Help! I am in a trendy bar in Shoreditch!

I was very drunk and had a good time coz the DJ played Bauhaus.

But still, the place is full of cnuts.

The 120 Days Of Streatham (kate), Monday, 20 September 2004 11:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Wow, I just read to the end and realised that I wasn't even drunk. Out with Daren and not drunk, what was the world coming to?

The 120 Days Of Streatham (kate), Monday, 20 September 2004 11:02 (twenty-one years ago)

finally some sympathy. I aint a misanthrope, I love people, which makes it hurt so much when they dissapoint me.

lukey (Lukey G), Monday, 20 September 2004 11:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Ppl that don't say thank you when they should are ignorant w@nkers.

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Monday, 20 September 2004 11:24 (twenty-one years ago)

couldn't have said it betterm myself.

lukey (Lukey G), Monday, 20 September 2004 11:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, I always thank people who let me go ahead of them in a bar queue. That's totally different. I thought you were talking about people thanking you for letting them just pass you in the street. I know the English are polite, but that's taking it a bit far!

The 120 Days Of Streatham (kate), Monday, 20 September 2004 11:26 (twenty-one years ago)

who the fuck says thanks for someone getting out of their way? this doesn't make any sense at all. most of the time the people shouldn't be in my fucking way to start with.

the surface noise (slight return) (electricsound), Monday, 20 September 2004 11:30 (twenty-one years ago)

It depends K, if you say excuse me to someone & they get out of your way, it's polite to say thank you. I'm not talking about just walking past someone.
x-post
It isn't their fault that you are in a rush!!

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Monday, 20 September 2004 11:31 (twenty-one years ago)

I always say thanks even if it is me moving out of the way. it isn't right but.

RJG (RJG), Monday, 20 September 2004 11:33 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm not sure if that's a London/rest of UK divide or what...

I don't know. If someone is in my way and it's their fault and I ask them to move, I don't thank them, I glare at them for being an idiot. You know, like, people who stand on the wrong side of the escalator and other examples of sheer idiocy.

If I'm actually technically in their way, and they move for me, then I will thank them. Maybe.

The 120 Days Of Streatham (kate), Monday, 20 September 2004 11:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Where are these regimented footpaths where the in way divides are so clear?

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Monday, 20 September 2004 11:36 (twenty-one years ago)

I like Shoreditch okay.

adam. (nordicskilla), Monday, 20 September 2004 11:36 (twenty-one years ago)

If they are where they shouldn't be (i.e. wrong side of the escalators) then fine don't thank them, but like I said them 'being in your way' is not necessarily their fault. They probably missed the warning that said a pissed off person is trying to get to work at exactly the point where they might stand on a particular spot.

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Monday, 20 September 2004 11:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Or if they're absentmindedly standing behind yr car or something... I mean I HATE HATE HATE being behind slow walkers etc but at no point do I let myself think I'm somehow in the right. I'm annoyed, so what?

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Monday, 20 September 2004 11:38 (twenty-one years ago)

I aint talking specifics here, my thinking is a s follows. If there is constricted space, (like when the pavement is single file because they are installing cable tve etc) and i stop and wait for you to pass, then yes I do expect a thank you. After all i have inconvenienced myself to expedite your journey.
I guess you non thankers are Thatcherites who welcomed that "no society, just individuals" bullshit. Being part of a society/community means greasing the weals of interhuman interaction. Not thanking someone who goes out their way to be nice to you is just throwing a spanner in the works. Being behind someone, who is walking slowly is a completely different thing from being face to face and letting someone pass.

lukey (Lukey G), Monday, 20 September 2004 11:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh for gods sake, if you don't thank people, you must be a Thatcherite/Nazi/etc. Get some new memes already!

Maybe it just means that you are so consumed with RAGE that you don't have time for other people's petty insecurities.

The 120 Days Of Streatham (kate), Monday, 20 September 2004 11:50 (twenty-one years ago)

nor they yours?

teh pow! (blueski), Monday, 20 September 2004 11:53 (twenty-one years ago)

RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGE is not insecurity.

The 120 Days Of Streatham (kate), Monday, 20 September 2004 11:54 (twenty-one years ago)

it can be a consequence of it tho

teh pow! (blueski), Monday, 20 September 2004 11:58 (twenty-one years ago)

I am the kind of person who spews out thankyous and sorrys involuntarily, all the time. So the question of whether it's polite to or not has never arisen. If I interact with you for longer than 2 seconds the chances are I will say thankyou.

But in fact I can't think of a good reason *not* to say thank you if you let someone pass in the one-way face-on situation lukey mentioned.

Archel (Archel), Monday, 20 September 2004 12:00 (twenty-one years ago)

I do that too Arch. I'll make my boss a cup of tea (we are in the same office) & as I put the cup down, I say 'thank you'!!

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Monday, 20 September 2004 12:15 (twenty-one years ago)

I'd like to thank Bill Oddie, I've always liked his TV shows.

jel -- (jel), Monday, 20 September 2004 15:43 (twenty-one years ago)

I am the kind of person who spews out thankyous and sorrys involuntarily, all the time.

OMG Archel, that is SO me, as well!! How freaky. I thought I was odd for muttering "thank you" or "I'm sorry" like every other minute, but apparently not, because you seem to do the very same thing. Awesome! Thank y-- oh wait.

Many Coloured Halo (Dee the Lurker), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 01:27 (twenty-one years ago)

there is no excuse for not thanking people. it's rude.

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 09:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes please.
