"We"?

The unhealthy amount of interest you've taken in the fairly obscure (unless there's some connection between you and the fate of the panda I'm unaware of) matter of the fate of this endangered species suggests to me some kind of sublimated/subconcious suicidal urge, perhaps you should look into that.

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Friday, 8 October 2004 04:18 (twenty-one years ago)

we should spend ALL our money on it. fuck the highways! fuck defence!

kyle (akmonday), Friday, 8 October 2004 04:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Crayon packets don't design themselves, you know.

I say we thin out the panda population by having them compete, perhaps against other animals, in gladiator-style combat.

Hurting (Hurting), Friday, 8 October 2004 05:57 (twenty-one years ago)

The t-shirt I wore today has a panda on it. I've had it since I was three years old; I got it at Busch Gardens in Tampa, FL. I wore it as a nightshirt and it covered my entire body. Now it fits me PERFECTLY and GIRLS LOVE IT.

So, pandas are classic, clearly.

Helios Creed (orion), Friday, 8 October 2004 05:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Pandas are cool because they fool everyone into thinking they're cute with their Margot Tenenbaum eyes and their fat ears, when actually they are ruthless killers. I may be confusing them with polar bears.

Or scenester chicks

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Friday, 8 October 2004 07:46 (twenty-one years ago)

They all blur into one for me.

Alba (Alba), Friday, 8 October 2004 07:50 (twenty-one years ago)

They dont want to breed, becasue they know they are good for nothing looser animals. Flush them down the genetic toilet

lukey (Lukey G), Friday, 8 October 2004 08:14 (twenty-one years ago)

well i like them and hope they stick around

Freelance Hellpanda (blueski), Friday, 8 October 2004 08:17 (twenty-one years ago)

This makes me want to tear off my panda suit and stand alone in the middle of the street and say Why? Why?

aimurchie, Friday, 8 October 2004 08:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Someone should get a cartoon TV series featuring pandas. Like the panda version of the Simpsons but with a twist.

Pandarama?

NickB (NickB), Friday, 8 October 2004 08:52 (twenty-one years ago)

It's a pretty wanky website, but I pretty much agree with the conceit. The panda has already been around twice as long as an average species (which exists for 4 million years before exctinction) and its time is, it seems, up.

Markelby (Mark C), Friday, 8 October 2004 09:19 (twenty-one years ago)

I haven't had the chance to read it. Is it saying that Pandas are dying out naturally and we should just let them do so, or on the other hand, is it arguing that their plight is due to human effects and we should just stand aside and let habitat destruction etc take place?

NickB (NickB), Friday, 8 October 2004 09:30 (twenty-one years ago)

We could just breed polar bears with dalmations.

It would produce a similar effect, but with a slightly different body shape.

Rumpy Pumpkin (rumpypumpkin), Friday, 8 October 2004 09:44 (twenty-one years ago)

can't they just clone them?

Freelance Sadpanda (blueski), Friday, 8 October 2004 10:34 (twenty-one years ago)

did Ricky Gervais write that website?

I see one! But it's not moving. Dead, perhaps.

I think little baby panda is asleep, but wriggling its little foot.

The Real Dirty Vicar, Wednesday, 23 September 2009 15:25 (sixteen years ago)

based on this footage, happy to let all pandas die, replace with shiba inu puppies.

I do so love giant pandas, even to the point of doing some volunteer work in China, but fuck me if they show any interest in survival whatsoever. They hate sex, eat their babies, gnaw on the most indigestible plant going, and while they are actually extremely fast and strong, just generally can't be bothered. It's almost as if they know the game's up, and humans are just interfering in their survival. Chris Packham's point is smartly made.

I do recommend spending time working with them at Wolong Panda Reserve in Szechuan province though, about 4 hours from Chengdu - if you're in the area.

Huey in Bristol (Huey in Melbourne), Wednesday, 23 September 2009 15:47 (sixteen years ago)

actually extremely fast and strong, just generally can't be bothered

more reason to love them imo.

Oh man I know that all the above is true but still can't move past the LOOK AT THEM part of this whole thing.

I love the panda in Beijing zoo who keeps mauling people who climb into his cage to give him hugs.
