adam. (nordicskilla), Thursday, 14 October 2004 17:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Are we...generally on the right track?

adam. (nordicskilla), Thursday, 14 October 2004 17:39 (twenty-one years ago)

1 of something else you think I would like

Clearly this is going to prove something of a challenge.

I do not shop well.

adam. (nordicskilla), Thursday, 14 October 2004 17:40 (twenty-one years ago)

i cant believe i just spent 10 minutes of my life reading your goddamn shopping list. i need a job.

phil-two (phil-two), Thursday, 14 October 2004 17:42 (twenty-one years ago)

This is funny.

n/a (Nick A.), Thursday, 14 October 2004 17:42 (twenty-one years ago)

how the hell will you carry that all home?

jel -- (jel), Thursday, 14 October 2004 17:42 (twenty-one years ago)

She hasn't defined which snack bars to get, send the list back and ask her to be more specific.

jel -- (jel), Thursday, 14 October 2004 17:43 (twenty-one years ago)

where is the Sparks?

kyle (akmonday), Thursday, 14 October 2004 17:44 (twenty-one years ago)

adam. (nordicskilla), Thursday, 14 October 2004 17:44 (twenty-one years ago)

yogurts for you

That was such a romantic novel

kyle (akmonday), Thursday, 14 October 2004 17:44 (twenty-one years ago)

What sorta milk? What size? This list is impossible, it gives the individual too much opportunity to mess it up.

jel -- (jel), Thursday, 14 October 2004 17:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Hahahahaha, kyle!

adam. (nordicskilla), Thursday, 14 October 2004 17:45 (twenty-one years ago)

"yogurts for you" because I don't eat them, you bacteria loving fool

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Thursday, 14 October 2004 17:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Adam you need to get:

cheddar cheese
Then you can make cheese grits, along with that garlic. Mmm, garlicy cheese grits.

n/a (Nick A.), Thursday, 14 October 2004 17:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Also buy me some Sugar Babies and mail them to me.

n/a (Nick A.), Thursday, 14 October 2004 17:45 (twenty-one years ago)

I love how she assumes you wouldn't be able to find many of these items without directions.

Michael White (Hereward), Thursday, 14 October 2004 17:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Automobile, that figures.

Mt last post was one of those x-post things.

jel -- (jel), Thursday, 14 October 2004 17:46 (twenty-one years ago)

1 pack of lasagna noodles (wide fat noodles, top shelf)

is the the non-cook kind?

kyle (akmonday), Thursday, 14 October 2004 17:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Grocery Shopping is my favourite routine thing to do.

Huk-L, Thursday, 14 October 2004 17:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Do pears actually come in any other colour than green?

I love how she assumes you wouldn't be able to find many of these items without directions.

I can't! Hence the list!

adam. (nordicskilla), Thursday, 14 October 2004 17:46 (twenty-one years ago)

2 beers?

kephm, Thursday, 14 October 2004 17:46 (twenty-one years ago)

I just realised that I actually enjoy reading shopping lists! God, I'm some horrible dystopian consumer slave. In the near future, all literature will be in the form of shopping lists or consumer catalogues.

Kevin Gilchrist (Mr Fusion), Thursday, 14 October 2004 17:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Don't buy the twee carrots.

jel -- (jel), Thursday, 14 October 2004 17:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Hahaha! I was waiting for someone to pick up on the 2 beers! This is KEY!

adam. (nordicskilla), Thursday, 14 October 2004 17:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Red Vines

kyle (akmonday), Thursday, 14 October 2004 17:47 (twenty-one years ago)

"Do pears actually come in any other colour than green?"
brown or red, but the green ones are the best.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Thursday, 14 October 2004 17:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Also

1 small box of Grapenuts cereal (for a breakfast thing I'll make with the crockpot)

WHAT DOES IT MEAN?

adam. (nordicskilla), Thursday, 14 October 2004 17:48 (twenty-one years ago)

2 beers, 1 bottle of wine. What's she gonna drink?

Michael White (Hereward), Thursday, 14 October 2004 17:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Which supermarket are you going to Adam?

jel -- (jel), Thursday, 14 October 2004 17:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Crackpot?

jel -- (jel), Thursday, 14 October 2004 17:50 (twenty-one years ago)

how early do you have to get up to make breakfast in a crockpot?

kyle (akmonday), Thursday, 14 October 2004 17:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Tom, Ricotta is nice!

adam. (nordicskilla), Thursday, 14 October 2004 17:50 (twenty-one years ago)

But with ricotta cheese you can make cannelloni and lasagna, two of the world's most perfect foods.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Thursday, 14 October 2004 17:50 (twenty-one years ago)

That grapenuts thing sounds scary. Give us details.

Michael White (Hereward), Thursday, 14 October 2004 17:51 (twenty-one years ago)

I am somewhat wary of the Grape Nuts + crockpot thing myself.

n/a (Nick A.), Thursday, 14 October 2004 17:51 (twenty-one years ago)

1 of something else you think I would like

this is a test.

kephm, Thursday, 14 October 2004 17:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Are you sure it doesn't say "crackpot"?

n/a (Nick A.), Thursday, 14 October 2004 17:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Or "crack & pot"?

n/a (Nick A.), Thursday, 14 October 2004 17:52 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm pretty sure I hate Grapenuts. How pissed off would she be if I just...y'know...skipped that part?

adam. (nordicskilla), Thursday, 14 October 2004 17:52 (twenty-one years ago)

What the hell are grape nuts for that matter?

jel -- (jel), Thursday, 14 October 2004 17:53 (twenty-one years ago)

They are a weird but delicious breakfast cereal. Imagine eating a bowl of soggy gravel.

n/a (Nick A.), Thursday, 14 October 2004 17:54 (twenty-one years ago)

And loving it.

Michael White (Hereward), Thursday, 14 October 2004 17:54 (twenty-one years ago)

kyle (akmonday), Thursday, 14 October 2004 18:02 (twenty-one years ago)

This means something.

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 14 October 2004 18:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Sir Kingfish Beavis D'Azzmonch (Kingfish), Thursday, 14 October 2004 18:05 (twenty-one years ago)

There's so much in there I don't think I can even begin to parse it. It's just too dense.

HAPPY DAN!

adam. (nordicskilla), Thursday, 14 October 2004 18:06 (twenty-one years ago)

BUT WHERE ARE THE OTHER SEASONINGS TO BEGIN WITH???

adam. (nordicskilla), Thursday, 14 October 2004 18:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Michael White (Hereward), Thursday, 14 October 2004 18:08 (twenty-one years ago)

It's not much like my shopping list, which is generally something like:
Crisps
Ice cream
Chocolate
Ice Lollies
Bread
Butter
Lasagnes
Orange squash
Orange juice
More chocolate
Cakes
Bacon
Sausages

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 14 October 2004 18:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Are you making Thanksgiving dinner?

I noticed a HELL of a lot of fruit up there. I'm always scared it will go bad so I don't get that much.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Thursday, 14 October 2004 18:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Wot's a tilapia steak?

isadora (isadora), Thursday, 14 October 2004 18:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Michael White (Hereward), Thursday, 14 October 2004 18:33 (twenty-one years ago)

this is probably my favorite thread since i found ilx and i have no idea why.
xpost to kevin re: dystopian...
i laughed so hard at this that i choked on an m&m

there is a quantity of fruit on there that makes me think adam and his girlfriend have never been much for fruit but have recently decided that they should eat it anyhow.

i can only buy fruit fresh because otherwise it just spoils.

firstworldman (firstworldman), Thursday, 14 October 2004 19:54 (twenty-one years ago)

I love food shopping. I prefer it to any other kind of shopping.

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Thursday, 14 October 2004 19:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Are you going to make fish tacos? And please let us know about the Grape Nuts crockpot dish.

THAT IS SUCH A FUCKING LONG LIST, JESUS!

battlin' green eyeshades (Homosexual II), Thursday, 14 October 2004 20:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Too bad we threw away the last receipt or I could scan it and have a battle of the grocery lists.

this is a test.

-- kephm (keph...), October 14th, 2004 4:51 AM.

Hahhaha THIS IS SO OTM!

Also, Ilove mrs Adam's list, she knows that boy things are baffled by supermarkets, because you take everything so literally! Many's a time my boy has refused to do the big shop, because he claims the butcher's section terrifies him. He doesnt understand meat cuts.

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 15 October 2004 05:21 (twenty-one years ago)

How'd the shopping go?

jel -- (jel), Friday, 15 October 2004 16:04 (twenty-one years ago)

where is the info on the grapenuts/crockpot deal? i want details! grapenuts served hot is delicious i think-oohh, maybe some of the fruit is for this dish? yum!

Emilymv (Emilymv), Friday, 15 October 2004 16:10 (twenty-one years ago)

it is not a boy thing to be baffled by supermarkets...im not baffled by them at all !

also i dont make a list, but sort of wander around, thinking that would be good.

anthony, Friday, 15 October 2004 18:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Your last receipt

teeny (teeny), Saturday, 16 October 2004 15:30 (twenty-one years ago)

This thread is fantastic (though possibly because I am a bit drunk at the moment).

Earlier today I bought six bottles of wine, some lemon grass and Astronaut by Duran Duran. I am unsure what I could cook with these ingredients.

C J (C J), Saturday, 16 October 2004 18:04 (twenty-one years ago)

one year passes...
Now we do the farmer's market.

[jailhouse tattoo] (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 22:39 (twenty years ago)

That shopping list is still amazing.

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 22:53 (twenty years ago)

thats very bay area of you

howell huser (chaki), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 22:53 (twenty years ago)

CJ's shopping list looks like mine. Today I went to Tesco with the intention of being all organised for Christmas before facing death by Christmas party hangover when I should be doing my shopping on Friday, and instead came back with a bag of brussels sprouts, a bottle of shiraz, a bag of tomato ketchup crisps and a sudoku book for myself. Shopping lists like adam's give me the fear.

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 23:05 (twenty years ago)

thats very bay area of you

gah!

I know!

right?

[jailhouse tattoo] (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 23:05 (twenty years ago)

We actually saw a KNIGHT walk through Berkeley Farmer's Market, in chain mail and everything. There is also this two-man skiffle band, both nine year olds, who play Hendrix covers.

[jailhouse tattoo] (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 23:07 (twenty years ago)

My fiance helpfully lists items in the order in which they will be encountered in the store.

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 23:07 (twenty years ago)

haha!

That makes sense - visualizing.

[jailhouse tattoo] (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 23:07 (twenty years ago)

Chaki, if I move to LA where will I get organic heirloom tomatoes?

[jailhouse tattoo] (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 23:08 (twenty years ago)

Farmer's markets or Trader Joe's

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 23:22 (twenty years ago)

also i dont make a list, but sort of wander around, thinking that would be good.

Ant is OTM here I like to do this too. I still love the list in this thread, it reminds me of my lists for Nick (he's a lot better at shopping now!)

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 22 December 2005 08:05 (twenty years ago)

Did Adam ever get back from the store?

StanM (StanM), Thursday, 22 December 2005 08:35 (twenty years ago)

With that list? I doubt it. He's probably standing amongst the fresh herbs right now, weeping quietly.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 22 December 2005 08:40 (twenty years ago)

did you need peanut butter?

phil-two (phil-two), Thursday, 22 December 2005 08:40 (twenty years ago)

two beers?

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 22 December 2005 13:47 (twenty years ago)

2 of the Happy Dan chicken (this chicken is double breasted so you want 2 but you're actually getting 4 breasts)

Everything about this line item is perfect.

Dan ("Happy") Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 22 December 2005 14:05 (twenty years ago)

that shopping list is insane. it would take me hours to find that stuff. pleasant plains and my weekly necessity shopping list is more like:

pantene
advil
phonecard
12 cans of coke
miller lite
dog food
cat food
cat litter
dog bone
packet of 10 chimichangas
rice
5 lean gourmet spaghetti and meat sauce
weetabix
milk

sunny successor (katharine), Thursday, 22 December 2005 14:26 (twenty years ago)

four years pass...

so much funny stuff on this thread ohman

interesting how shopping via someone else's list is almost universally stressful

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Saturday, 21 August 2010 16:15 (fifteen years ago)

this thread is a thing of beauty

I like the way mrs adam has helpfully realised that "cilantro" and "lasagna noodles" are not Britisher usages and provided a full description of what these mysterious items are, except the full description of "lasagna noodles" is actually more confusing to someone lost in the pasta aisle thinking that they know what lasagne is and they know what noodles are but what could this strange hybrid be
