his best friend in hollywood is Rob Lowe who is a self confessed Bush Booster, so what about Mike?

lukey (Lukey G), Monday, 18 October 2004 08:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Mike Myers is Canadian. I am not even aware if he is a naturalised US citizen.

suzy (suzy), Monday, 18 October 2004 08:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Mike Myers is a multi-multi-millionaire. If his allegience can be purchased with tax breaks, he is a Bush supporter.

Mike Myers appears to have sprung from the loins of the Scottish-emigrant working class (figuratively speaking, of course). If he is at all true to his origins he would spit in Bush's eye. Twice.

Pay your nickel and take your choice.

He's also a Canadian from middleclass sub-suburbia.

lukey, are you implying that you just had fantastic sex with Mike Myers?

Dan Perry '08 (Dan Perry), Monday, 18 October 2004 16:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Aimless, MM's dad was from Liverpool, so similar conditions do apply. He also lived in London and was an alt-comedian in Thatchertime, so mmmmm I guess he hates Bush too.

And he was on Waccaday or whatever it was killed with Timmy Mallet. I don't know how to interpret that into the political spectrum though.

Kevin Gilchrist (Mr Fusion), Monday, 18 October 2004 17:03 (twenty-one years ago)

'Killed'? That's a freudian mistake if ever there was one. I mean, I hate Austin Powers, but that's extreme. Anyway "called" was the word we were looking for.

Kevin Gilchrist (Mr Fusion), Monday, 18 October 2004 17:04 (twenty-one years ago)

I thought Rob Lowe was a democrat? But it would be comforting to think that someone stupid enough to take part in something called "Dr. Vegas" is republican.

Leon Czolgosz (Nicole), Monday, 18 October 2004 17:06 (twenty-one years ago)

When did Rob Lowe go republican? My girlfriend in high school did volunteer work with the Democratic Party in 1988 and she and her fellow volunteers got to meet Rob Lowe (and Morgan Fairchild!) because they were big democrats. (Of course, not long after this, Lowe was caught on tape having sex with a minor and the idea of letting him meet lots of high school girls probably didn't seem so bright.)

i have lots of friends who are republicans (note: i am from texas so it's not like i can avoid them).

it's strange, but you know what? they are just like us! they have hopes, fears, doubts, convictions. it's amazing. i mean, there could even be a republican within a hundred yards of you and you wouldn't even know it! they look just like people!

Two Wrongs Make A Right :.

Some things just really fry my noodle. Some things I just cannot wrap my brain around. Some things just don’t add up to me. When I watch Mel Gibson’s movie The Passion Of The Christ, I come away with the same quandary every time: why?

Why, if I was the guilty party, why did Jesus die for me? Why, if it was I that murdered in my heart, why do I get to roam free? If I was the one who committed adultery in my heart of hearts, why am I free to live my life as a free man? Why did Jesus pay for these crimes He never committed?

Remember Jesus’ encounter with the rich young ruler? He asked Jesus what he must do to be saved. Jesus basically said to follow the 10 commandments. This man responds, “I have kept all of these from my youth.” Are you serious!?? I have broken all ten of the commandments since my youth. I break almost all of them on a daily basis!

If I were living in the time of Jesus, the Scribes and the High Priests wouldn’t have to invent false accusation against me to condemn me. They could just honestly tell the truth, and the truth would undoubtedly condemn me. The forensic evidence would condemn me. The eyewitnesses would condemn me. The circumstantial evidence would condemn me. The blood on my hands would condemn me! The fingerprints at the crime scene would condemn me! I am guilty as sin!

Now think about it. There is Jesus being mocked and falsely accused for crimes He never committed and yet He says nothing in His own defense. I, on the other hand, knowing that I am flat out guilty would be feverishly trying to cover up the condemning truth and defending the indefensible. I just marvel as I ask myself, “Why would Jesus do this for me?” Why would He take a hit for me, the chief of all criminals?

Sometimes I wish it was I on that cross. At least that would make sense to me. I wish I had the stripes on my back, after all, that is what I deserve. I wish I had the spit of my peers dripping down my cheek, for I deserve such scorn. And if I were to receive all of the punishment my Lord endured for me, I would still be deserving of eternity in hell separated from a loving God. That would be the just punishment for my heinous crimes!

So when I reflect on how the whole trail of Jesus went, I can’t help but have an overwhelming sense of injustice. Here we have Mike Myers who is clearly guilty, yet is acquitted. And then there is Jesus who is clearly innocent and receives the punishment for Mike’s crimes. There is nothing worse than a criminal who goes unpunished! It’s injustice followed by more injustice. Two wrongs don’t make a right. Well not entirely. In this case, God decrees that two wrongs do make things right

HAHAHAHAHA!

Emilymv (Emilymv), Monday, 18 October 2004 17:48 (twenty-one years ago)

The opening sentence is what hooked me.

latebloomer (latebloomer), Monday, 18 October 2004 18:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Goddamn, the Ned Flanders part is spot on. (The Ned Raggett variant would be more, "Some things truly make me ponder in bemusing ways. Heavens!")
