LIKE EVERY DAY, YOU WIPE OBJECTS OF OF EXISTANCE.

TAKE AN ICE CREAM CONE. THE ICE CREAM CONE AND I ARE NOW ONE

I spent quite some time thinking about objects (in theoretical psychology). In due course I found I could avoid insanity by positing, not objects, but infinitely nested situations. This was only a stopgap however, for madness beckoned again when I tried to find the edges of these situations. I then abandoned situations, objects, the whole shebang, and concetrated on the role of language in resticting attention. Then I abandoned my PhD and became a low level public servant. Ah! I am now happy.

yesterday i recontextualized a fucking erosion barrier as a bench

sometimes i like to pretend i am very small and warm (ex machina), Monday, 25 October 2004 07:22 (twenty-one years ago)

i was walking down the street today and starting recontextualizing all objects around me as things i could potentially roll into a soul clump. then i recontextualized people as objects. that i could roll into a soul clump.

stay away from psychoactive chemicals

the airplane glue was YOUR idea

Laura E (laurae55), Monday, 25 October 2004 07:31 (twenty-one years ago)

i've been thinking about shapes a lot. like triangles breathing in. does this count?

zappi (joni), Monday, 25 October 2004 07:32 (twenty-one years ago)

today i thought about what trees growing at regularly spaced intervals would look like from above

sometimes i like to pretend i am very small and warm (ex machina), Monday, 25 October 2004 07:33 (twenty-one years ago)

sometimes i think about very everyday but very old functional objects and wonder who invented them and marvel at how clever they were. like screwdrivers. and doorknobs.

gem (trisk), Monday, 25 October 2004 07:34 (twenty-one years ago)

and indoor plumbing

motown modown (Jody Beth Rosen), Monday, 25 October 2004 07:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Have you ever looked at your hand? We're freaks, man. Reality is some f***ing nightmare.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Monday, 25 October 2004 07:36 (twenty-one years ago)

maybe we can chart the courses of our lives based on the relative position of stars and planets

sometimes i like to pretend i am very small and warm (ex machina), Monday, 25 October 2004 07:37 (twenty-one years ago)

pfft that's ridiculous, NO ONE would ever believe in that

gem (trisk), Monday, 25 October 2004 07:38 (twenty-one years ago)

One day when I was like 20 I looked at my elbow and got really disoriented about how the inside of the joint would face my body even when my hand was palm down and I freaked out.

Laura E (laurae55), Monday, 25 October 2004 07:38 (twenty-one years ago)

i bet a compound fracture would freak us out

sometimes i like to pretend i am very small and warm (ex machina), Monday, 25 October 2004 07:42 (twenty-one years ago)

like when you sleep on your arm and the circulation gets cut off and you wake up and get a fright when you touch it with your other hand, thinking you have suddenly grown an extra arm??

that only happens to me doesn't it....

gem (trisk), Monday, 25 October 2004 07:44 (twenty-one years ago)

No, one time I did that except that somehow I managed to wake up with my hand on my face, and I thought someone was grabbing me so I whacked the hand.

Laura E (laurae55), Monday, 25 October 2004 07:46 (twenty-one years ago)

glad someone's on the same page as me with the scary extra arm business

gem (trisk), Monday, 25 October 2004 07:47 (twenty-one years ago)

one time I was in a bad accident and looked in the mirror at my recontextualized forehead, which was split wide open about half an inch wide. I could see skull. I thought about how minor the accident was and how it had caused such awful fucking damage, how this one object, an innocuous everyday object had done this to me.

Riot Gear! (Gear!), Monday, 25 October 2004 07:47 (twenty-one years ago)

It happens to me too. I know all about that dead extra arm.

Also I wake up in the morning and go OMG WTF ROFFLEMAO sometimes, does this happen to you?

Never seen an object in my entire life. How much time have I wasted, looking for objects? I could have been having fun, flying kites or something.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Monday, 25 October 2004 07:48 (twenty-one years ago)

one time I fell asleep on my arm and woke up and saw this hand sticking out from under me. I panicked briefly, since I couldn't "feel" the hand, I didn't know whose it was for a second. naturally it was early morning and I was still a little drunk

Riot Gear! (Gear!), Monday, 25 October 2004 07:48 (twenty-one years ago)

sometimes my leg is asleep and i leap to get fone and i fall down

sometimes i like to pretend i am very small and warm (ex machina), Monday, 25 October 2004 07:48 (twenty-one years ago)

do you mean the car gear?? cars aren't innocuous gear, they're dangerous pieces of machinery. we just get detached from their inherent risks because we hop in and out of them all day every day.

gem (trisk), Monday, 25 October 2004 07:48 (twenty-one years ago)

actually what gets me the most is to think about how if my parents had decided to "get it on" a split second earlier or a split second later, I would not even be alive.

Riot Gear! (Gear!), Monday, 25 October 2004 07:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Also because of video games.

Laura E (laurae55), Monday, 25 October 2004 07:49 (twenty-one years ago)

ok gear you're freaking me out with your profundity. so....... back to kites!

gem (trisk), Monday, 25 October 2004 07:50 (twenty-one years ago)

well there was the car business as well, but this was a street sign that fell on me. okay, not so much "fell" as I "walked into" it

Riot Gear! (Gear!), Monday, 25 October 2004 07:50 (twenty-one years ago)

true laura! video games make people think they are tops rally drivers rather than people with more coinage than sense

gem (trisk), Monday, 25 October 2004 07:51 (twenty-one years ago)

I mean jeez think about it, what if my dad had caught an extra red light coming home that night in February '74?

Riot Gear! (Gear!), Monday, 25 October 2004 07:51 (twenty-one years ago)

you could be gearette!

gem (trisk), Monday, 25 October 2004 07:51 (twenty-one years ago)

or gearnil!

Riot Gear! (Gear!), Monday, 25 October 2004 07:52 (twenty-one years ago)

logear?

gem (trisk), Monday, 25 October 2004 07:52 (twenty-one years ago)

I'll be sitting with a drink somewhere, watching people walk by, thinking "do they know how fucking fortunate they are??" this is when I'm in more pensive mode.

Riot Gear! (Gear!), Monday, 25 October 2004 07:53 (twenty-one years ago)

i mean when I lie awake and start thinking about all the miniscule events in history, not just my parents' history, that had to occur in order for me to just be BORN, my head almost explodes

Riot Gear! (Gear!), Monday, 25 October 2004 07:55 (twenty-one years ago)

EXHIBIT A:
DO U EVER THINK ABOUT "OBJECTS"

A Million Talking Hot Dogs (AaronHz), Monday, 25 October 2004 07:59 (twenty-one years ago)

xxpost i know what you mean with the exploding head. do you ever try and conceptualise figures, like big figures. i read somewhere that humans can only really comprehend numbers in the order of 1000 and then have to use multiples. when i try and think about exactly how many people live in my city, never mind my country or the entire world, i feel that my brain just isn't adequate.

gem (trisk), Monday, 25 October 2004 08:00 (twenty-one years ago)

"what is ilx about" is a strange question. i feel like the answer should be a plot summary.

Laura E (laurae55), Monday, 25 October 2004 08:00 (twenty-one years ago)

okay what's this gmail stuff? I want in.

Riot Gear! (Gear!), Monday, 25 October 2004 08:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Well it's goofy question, hence my glib responce.
x-post

Gear I could send you an invite, want one?

A Million Talking Hot Dogs (AaronHz), Monday, 25 October 2004 08:03 (twenty-one years ago)

I can't comprehend numbers so well.

okay, think about this shit! astronomy! how we really don't know what's going on with the stars in the universe right now, because they could have all burned out thousands of years ago, right? but we won't know because the light hasn't reached us yet! gahh!

Riot Gear! (Gear!), Monday, 25 October 2004 08:03 (twenty-one years ago)

yes!

Riot Gear! (Gear!), Monday, 25 October 2004 08:03 (twenty-one years ago)
